Do women in Jordan have to wear the veil? How is life in Jordan and how are the people? Can a foreigner adapt his or herself quickly to Jordan? (With laws, customs, etc.) gulfexpress May 6th, 2007, 09:39 AM ^^ No, women do not have to wear veils in jordan. Jordan enjoys a very open and social society. Jordan might not be the best place for a foreigner to live in (compared to the gulf), but it enjoys a lot more touristic sites. There are a handfull of activities you could do there on a vacation. wether it was floating on the dead sea (lowest point on earth), snorkling and water sports in the red sea (dubbed as the world best site for snorkling), camping in Wadi Rum, seeing antient Roman sites such as Jerash (famous for its yearly cultural events), or enjoying eco-tourism at its best in Dana Natural Reseve, and stay at the worlds oldest village. You can expect the Touristic Services to be v-good in jordan as to thats where most of the economy of the country comes from. heres a clip about jordan, I'll try to find a better one. -J5962WDEps LeB-iT May 7th, 2007, 10:11 PM How many % of the Jordanian population is of Palestinian origins? metal gear May 8th, 2007, 06:18 AM really hard to tell cause the families are split around the river before israel its very unnaturall to divide but if u are talking about post asrail displacement the official figures is about 50% gulfexpress May 8th, 2007, 11:51 AM ^^ actually its a bit more than that, more like 75%, if not more metal gear May 8th, 2007, 12:01 PM ^^ actually u cant say where palestine ends and jordan begins as i said those are the formal figures:angel: gulfexpress May 8th, 2007, 12:09 PM I'm just saying based on what I knew when I was there, palestinians by far outnumber the jordanians in Jordan, no doubt about that. metal gear May 8th, 2007, 12:30 PM ^^ in a nut shell YES safqa_tijariya May 10th, 2007, 12:48 PM jordan used to be called palestine the british changed it go read any history book :D If you want to know further details get ''Ma3 Haikals'' episode on jordan i think it was 2 months ago where he talks about the king of jordan and how they made jordan and so on. belgiumguy May 10th, 2007, 07:16 PM Tell us about jordanian ecucation,universities,scientists,.. metal gear May 10th, 2007, 07:46 PM Tell us about jordanian ecucation,universities,scientists,.. jordanian students hystorically are among the best. and that is actually jordans main export. the expatriates ,traditionally to the gulf but recently to the us aswell. the jordanian expatriates are not laborors but traditionally teachers ,doctors and engeniers and nowadays technichians . there are 9 public universities and more than that private ones. we have one of the lowest illetracy rates in the world 51% of the students are girls 7 out of the top ten students each yr are girls ( or so ) 49% of the teachers are women 1.5 million students in schools ( 5.5 million pop.) jordan is adestination in the region for study and treatment (even with the compitition such as dubai ) we hav e few research centers ( costly) but excellent manpower (often drained to the west )for example the RSC and the geographic center (really uptodate) we have 2 of the most renound cetres for cardiology (espescially KHMC doing open heart surgery since the 70s and known worlwide) the 1st satellite link in the world between MAYO clinic and KHMC our airline maintenance facilities are liscinced from the US and EU on of the few allowed to export pharmaceuticals to US .........and more i know it is unexpected:) :) :) LeB-iT May 10th, 2007, 11:08 PM ok, didn't know where else to post this...but the best thing about Jordan is Queen Rania, gorgeous, intelligent and stylishhh, must be the most beautiful queen in history!! http://img170.imageshack.us/img170/3215/raniawy3.jpg (http://imageshack.us) Hassoun May 11th, 2007, 02:47 AM ^^she's elegant, attractive but not Beautiful ,,i love her BTW :) LeB-iT May 11th, 2007, 04:06 AM ^^r u blind? lol pali May 11th, 2007, 08:49 AM she is Palestinian i believe, isn't she? metal gear May 11th, 2007, 04:12 PM she is Palestinian i believe, isn't she? yes SHE IS ,SHE IS THE SECOND PALESTINIAN QUEEN OF JORDAN , AFTER QUEEN ALIA she was chosen by a famous magazine last yr as one of the 50 most beautiful in the world ( i think hello magazine in the uk ,any way a renound magazine. so r u BLIND ,no offence its ur taste:lol: Ramazzotti May 11th, 2007, 11:36 PM is it true that Queen Nour is of lebanese origins? gulfexpress May 11th, 2007, 11:47 PM ^thats correct, She was born an American of Arab, Swedish, Scottish, and English descent crazyeight May 11th, 2007, 11:54 PM Her Arab part is Syrian/Lebanese. _BPS_ June 20th, 2007, 10:35 PM Jordanian girls r the hottest in the world :okay: :applause: Where can I find the official economic surveys/reports published by the Jordanian government? Random question here hope some jordanians can help, I'll be home in lebanon in the summer with an italian friend, we were thinking of doing also a quick trip in Jordan. So my question is, are organized tours good there or is it better to do everything ourselves, and how far is the Red sea coast from Amman? Too long by bus? Thanks in advance! alik41 June 12th, 2010, 11:04 AM Hi guys! So my question is, are organized tours good there or is it better to do everything ourselves, and how far is the Red sea coast from Amman? Too long by bus? Thanks in advance! Hi! The Red Sea i.e. Aqaba is around 4 hours by bus from Amman (but Petra is halfway in between so maybe you could spend the night there in between), and the Dead Sea is around 40 minutes from Amman. Ive never been on a tour so I wouldn't really know, but driving yourself should be easy enough for an Italian-Lebanese:lol: In any case here is the website for a good bus company that does tours as well I think http://www.jett.com.jo/english.htm pietro-rj June 20th, 2010, 04:09 PM Hi everyone! I have a question regarding my trip to Jordan in early October and I think you can help. Are there any night time bus services from Amman to Petra? I have read that it is a lot better to arrive in Petra before 1100, when the attractions become crowded with tourists, so I thought about arriving there at 0700-0800. Is that possible? What about taxis, would the driver be willing to do a one-way run to Petra in the evening? Thanks a lot! yazm1991 June 21st, 2010, 01:20 AM Hi everyone! A taxi driver maybe willing to drive but he may charge more than required. I advise you to check with your hotel if they can organise anything. Hotels in Amman are really good at organising trips to and from Petra. It is better to arrive early but 7 may be a bit early. Try and get there around 8.30-9. Hope this helps. pietro-rj June 21st, 2010, 04:01 AM Not too sure about night time bus services to Petra. A taxi driver maybe willing to drive but he may charge more than required. I am actually doing a Istanbul-Cairo overland trip, so right now I am studying all my transport options in the countries I am visiting. ZIG July 14th, 2010, 12:02 PM Is it expensive to travel around Jordan? I'll be there for 2 weeks in November. Is 1500 USD (I think around 1100 JOD) enough? I am a backpacker type traveller so I don't really need those fancy hotels and stuff. :) yazm1991 July 15th, 2010, 07:16 AM Is it expensive to travel around Jordan? I'm sure you will enjoy your trip! Thanks my brother from another mother:) I''ll go to Petra of course, Dead Sea, Wadi Rum, Mt. Nebo, in and around Amman, Jerash, Madaba. Since I think I'll have lots of spare time during my visit, I'd love as well to hang out with locals  Hope to meet all of you soon! Saint Maur February 1st, 2011, 07:01 PM Do you think what happened in Tunisia and Happen in Egypt can affect Jordan ? It seem to me that Jordan is pretty much the Morocco of Middle East. So I don't see it happening here, but I would like to know what people living here think of it. Amman12 February 2nd, 2011, 10:56 AM Do you think what happened in Tunisia and Happen in Egypt can affect Jordan ? It seem to me that Jordan is pretty much the Morocco of Middle East. So I don't see it happening here, but I would like to know what people living here think of it. I think the monarchy is not questionable in Jordan. All political parties and civil society demonstrators have never asked for a "regime change". The king is still viewed a symbol of stability in the country, and he is much well respected among Jordanians. However, many Jordanians (including myself) think that Jordan should move on to a constitutional monarchy. That is, the king will keep his role as the head of state (and the army) but will not interfere in the day to day political and economic life. Also, the king would appoint a prime minister in according to the balance of power in the house of representatives. As a conclusion, I think there is a pressure on the king for political reforms, but the monarchy itself is immune. Hope this helps! Gzdvtz April 2nd, 2011, 03:07 PM What's the best way to get from Damascus to Amman? Is the rail operational? What are the buses like? How about the border crossing, is it a hassle, does it take a lot? Many thanks :D lealfonse April 4th, 2011, 10:22 AM What's the best way to get from Damascus to Amman? Is the rail operational? What are the buses like? How about the border crossing, is it a hassle, does it take a lot? Many thanks :D You can use Hejaz railway( I am not sure if its operational or not) by train to go to Amman. Or you can travel by car to the jordanian border, they will only ask for your passport and thats all. The process is easy, its not like Saudi Arabia and ofcourse you will experience our jordanian hospitality. Have a Safe trip. www.jnob-jo.com May 4th, 2011, 05:24 PM jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan jordan (http://www.jnob-jo.com/vb) Ramy H May 8th, 2011, 01:21 AM My question is one regarding a potential visit... Myself along with some Canadian friends will be in Lebanon this summer... and one of our mutual friends will be heading down to Amman (as she is Jordanian). She wants us to visit... but we checked out pics on here of Amman and for the most part we don't see any street life or entertainment going on (just based off pics). What exactly is there to do (aside from historic sites which we will already be going to anyways)...? If it is easier, when you guys are down in Jordan, or if you live there when you want to enjoy your weekend what is on the itinerary? Thanks Ramy Thunderbolt May 8th, 2011, 10:27 PM Hello Ramy, West Amman has a vibrant night life (I wouldn't compare it to Beirut though). However, there are tons of cafes, restaurants, pubs and nightclubs. Some that come to mind are 51, Red, Living Room, Canvas, Centro, Nai, Champions, 8 club, Fizz, Trader's Vic, and of course you have many five star hotels that have several restaurants / bars. You can find all kinds of cuisine, Indian, Thai, Japanese, Italian, French, American, Chinese, Mexican, Cuban etc..Also many Irish and English pubs. Cheers Ramy H May 9th, 2011, 02:27 PM Thanks! chrismartin02 September 4th, 2012, 02:05 PM Hi guys, quick question: I will be vacationing in Jordan this coming November. Is the new National Museum of Jordan open now? if not, will it open by November? Thanks in advance. :D |
