View Full Version : Springboks
Llanfairpwllgwy-ngyllgogerychwy-rndrobwllllanty-siliogogogoch November 13th, 2006, 11:27 AM Last Saturday I watched the Bokkies get a lesson in Rugby by the Irish.
The commentators on BBC were possitive about the individual skills on the S-Africans but as a team they have a lot to improve. What you guys expect for next Saturday, when the Springboks play England?? England is not doing particularly well, they lost this weekend from Argentina.
hsark November 13th, 2006, 12:30 PM haha are tight five sucked against the irish and dont go blame this whole loss of habana where was jdv and ap in the center channel spies is useless
Durbsboi November 13th, 2006, 01:19 PM Shit performance, as Naas said, some of the players needed to take off that jersey cos they were no where near the form of the springboks 100 years ago, they were pathetic ! Credit to Francious Steyn on a brilliant debut game, but thats about it, kept loosing the ball in the middle of the field, missing first time tackles, alot of holes were left in the defence, I could go on.
Well Argentina beat Eng on Sat, & England are pretty useless now, so if we dont beat them on Sat then we have major problems!
Durbsboi November 13th, 2006, 01:20 PM Experimental Bok side goes down
11 November 2006 (Posted: 21:09) -- SuperSport Zone
Coach Jake White's experimental Springbok side failed to gel as they were comprehensively beaten 32-15 by an impressive Ireland at Lansdowne Rd in Dublin on Saturday.
The Boks, to commemorate the 100 years of their emblem, wore jerseys and shorts that were a replica of the colouring worn by the team which played under Paul Roos in 1906. But there was no celebration for the Boks, who gave away their biggest ever defeat to Ireland and were outplayed after an initial bright patch which lasted all of four minutes.
It started going wrong for the Boks though in the tight five, where they were outscrummed and also battled to assert their usual control in the lineouts.
While the new back three could not be faulted for too much that went wrong for the visitors, the Boks did not have an answer to the booming field kicks of Ronan O’Gara. This condemned them to play much of the first half in their own territory as the Irish had a strong wind at their backs.
Knowing this, it was imperative for the Irish that they build a big lead by halftime, and this they managed by exploiting some shoddy defensive work from the Springboks. Rule number one of the much spoken about rush defence system is that players have to be disciplined and come up in line at the same time.
Too often the Boks were caught short in this aspect of their game, with centre Bryan Habana being one of the chief culprits. The Irish scored their first try through pacy wing Andrew Trimble, who ghosted around the flyhalf to take a perfectly timed pass from O’Gara.
A penalty from O’Gara after 20 minutes made it 10-3, and then it was Danie Rossouw who was caught horribly out of line on defence. The Irish always had space to play with and an advantage in numbers once that happened, and flank David Wallace waltzed over to make it 15-3 with just over a quarter of an hour left in the half.
The Boks did not do everything poorly. Their passing game was quite impressive at times and they managed to put some pace on the ball. However, you have to have the ball to get your passing game right – and the match stats showed that the Boks were simply outplayed in the battle for possession.
As the first half wore on so Ireland began to find more holes in the Springbok defence by going through the middle, and prop Marcus Horan dotted down to stretch the Irish score beyond 20 before the break.
The Irish were impressive in every facet of play. In addition to their forward dominance, the running and passing of their backs was outstanding. Gordon D'Arcy was man of the match at centre, but O'Gara proved he is more than just a kicking flyhalf, while Shane Horgan and the genius of Brian O'Driscoll was always a handful for the Bok defence to contend with.
But of course, they always had the momentum and that all-important go-forward.
Habana and Steyn scored second half tries for the Boks, but the Irish used the wind much better than they did when they had it at their backs in the first half.
Scores
Ireland – Tries: Andrew Trimble, David Wallace, Marcus Horan and Shane Horgan;
Conversions: Ronan O’Gara 3; Penalty: O’Gara.
Springboks – Tries: Francois Steyn and Bryan Habana;
Conversion: Andre Pretorius; Penalty: Andre Pretorius.

Durbsboi November 15th, 2006, 09:07 AM Bokke up against the English, they pretty pathetic at the moment, lets hops we can thump them! If the game is dull at least we can marvel at Twickenham's complete bowl, looks great!
hsark November 15th, 2006, 12:38 PM damit if we lose to poms man that will be low and we cant even fire jake it will cost the union 30million imean the guy who wrote the contract is a wanker
Durbsboi November 16th, 2006, 10:32 AM Jake is a cake, end of story, you never goin to get a good bok coach now a days, they need to work with the unions in bringing out good talent, like how the sharks & free state have their acadenmies, the springbok selectors & coachs need to help the unions in their training program to get the best out of our youngsters, thats the only way they going to succeed, Its no more a one man job, when Gary Tiechman lead the boks to equal NZ recored of so many unbeaten games on the trot, it was a collective team effort that got them that record, it was'NT just Nick Mallets coaching, as I said before, these guys got to look at the pride behind the springbok & put their personal pride away & play for the badge!
SA BOY November 16th, 2006, 12:47 PM fucking joke white needs to go. Put rassie in there with Dickie as his no2 and we are cooking
hsark November 16th, 2006, 05:08 PM i think we should fire our backline and fowards coach and some of the selectors coz theres noway jakes going before the wc but then again the bluebulls want him out "strange consider how many bulls players he picks"
SA BOY November 19th, 2006, 09:32 AM and it just gets worse
Mo Rush November 19th, 2006, 11:23 AM what an awesomely pathetic match from both teams...good for the springboks..we're getting closer to getting rid of jake shite
Durbsboi November 20th, 2006, 11:16 AM WHY DID HE TAKE OF JAMES???????? WHY???? HOW WAS PUTTING PISSTORIOUS IN FOR JAMES HELPING THE TEAM?????? JAMES WAS THE PLAY MAKER! & TODAY I HERE THAT JAMES IS COMING HOME??????
DISGRACE, A FUCKING DISGRACE!
as for ricky januarie, his the biggest poes of a scrum half I have ever seen, get that short cake out of there & please put in Ruan, that guy is wasting his time playing for the bokke, no blody vision at all! as for Jean de villers hogging the ball & trying to score that try in the 1st half himself was the most selfish act I have ever seen, Undungane was open, nobody was near him, but nooo he decided to attack the corner on his own, only to be tackled out of play!!!!
Durbsboi November 23rd, 2006, 10:36 AM Well we playing them again & our play maker (Butch) is injured, lets hope for the best
kulani November 26th, 2006, 01:00 AM well i guess saturday turned out much better than most of us would have thought, i watched the springboks' superb come back towards the end of the first half. well done, i hope they can keep it up.
Mo Rush November 26th, 2006, 02:17 AM Not bad..from the springbok second team...
mike2005 November 26th, 2006, 05:03 PM bloody good performance from what was a B side. I still want to see nick mallet as coach.
Mo Rush November 26th, 2006, 06:14 PM me 2.
Durbsboi November 27th, 2006, 08:59 AM Yeh bring back Nick! Wasnt a vintage performance, good come back tho,
I still think with English rugby being in the dumps at this moment, we should have creamed them, I take back what I said about Pretorious & Januarie, they both played well on Sat, but still think number 9 & 20 for SA should be Pienaar & James. Not bcos they both Sharks players, but cos they experts in their positions.
dysan1 November 27th, 2006, 08:08 PM nah nick wont come and frankly wldnt want him and he wld not take the job at all. And i wld not want to lose Dick from the sharks!!
Durbsboi November 28th, 2006, 10:09 AM True as I said before, the success of that Springbok team wasnt only credit to Nick Mallets coaching, I think that Springbok team had the best captain of the modern game, that being Gary Tiechman, not to say that John Smit is doing a bad job, its the selector's thats mucking up things for him, for once they should bugger the quota system, esp for the world cup, I mean who are we bluffing, we dont need the quota system anymore, there is QUALITY players of colour out there, Floors, Habanna, Ndungane, Supaka, Mkize, Fortien, & the list go's on, brilliant players.
SA BOY December 3rd, 2006, 06:09 AM 2 very hard days at the 7s on the liver but it was worth itr as we beat the kiwis after beeing behind big time. Pissed with rain for 3 days here in Dubai with massive flooding but the beers kept on coimming

Durbsboi December 14th, 2006, 08:16 AM Sharks sign Bob Skinstad
http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/2253/bobskinstadsigns250vx5.jpg
Bob Skinstad will be joining The Sharks franchise to stake a claim for a place in South African rugby, ending months of speculation about his future.
After much discussion and soul searching, the former Springbok Captain has taken a decision to bring his young family back to the country he loves and what better place to rejuvenate his local playing career than in the province where he started out his illustrious career at Hilton College in the KZN Midlands.
The Sharks have echoed the belief that Bob still has a lot to offer SA rugby and have given him the opportunity, based on total commitment and absolute merit, to earn a place in the starting 22 for the Super 14.
Bob has always had a high regard for current Sharks Coach Dick Muir and believes that The Sharks outfit are playing the brand of rugby through which he made his own personal mark.
"Not for one moment do I believe that this will be a walk in the park, and if I'm to earn a place in the starting lineup, I will have to really go some to oust the incumbent players who have made a monumental impact on The Sharks performance this past season. In any event, I'm determined to make an impact as a team player, and not just as an individual," says Skinstad.
Skinstad added, "I have taken a major decision to leave the day to day running of Esportif (the global sponsoring division of advertising agent Saatchi & Saatchi) whilst I pursue my dream. I have the total support of my family and business partners and look forward to making an impact".
"I always believed I would eventually come back to the Sharks. For a while I thought it might not happen, but it has happened and I am motivated, enthusiastic and thankful for the opportunity" Skinstad said.
"We're thrilled to have Bob so committed to our plans for the Super 14 and to be making his resurgence into the local game in front of his fans at The Absa Stadium Durban," says Coach Muir. Sharks CEO Brian van Zyl concludes, "We do believe that Bob will make a huge impact at The Sharks and the face of South African rugby".

I dno about this one, I know Bobby has got huge talent & KZN is his home, but I got faith in Dicky, the guy knows what his doing, & in the super 14 you need alot of experience to help the young guns out, & Im sure a former Springbok captain wont be that bad.
SA BOY December 14th, 2006, 09:26 AM I like what Strauli is doing, he has landed lensing from under everione nose, has signed Kankopfski, steyn, bowden etc from the acadamy.

Mo Rush December 14th, 2006, 08:15 PM and playing centre for richmond.
yep.
Durbsboi December 15th, 2006, 08:53 AM well lets hope he is like monty, & learnt a thing or too while up north.
Monty came back a changed player.
dysan1 December 16th, 2006, 05:47 PM but richmond are a b grade team. he was spending most of his time with his sporting ads company. he will have to fight to get into the team. which is good. from no talent to alot, the sharks academy is really now paying off for us
dysan1 December 16th, 2006, 05:48 PM the S14 and currie cup may actually we weak tournaments with the number of NZ players forced to sit out the s14 and prob the same in the currie cup for the sa players.
SA BOY December 17th, 2006, 04:09 AM which means we might have a chance to win it
Durbsboi December 18th, 2006, 07:54 AM Woohoo!
