Usaha jadikan Seri Menanti Tapak Warisan Dunia

KUALA PILAH 1 Dis. - Kerajaan Negeri akan berusaha mendapatkan pengiktirafan terhadap Istana Lama Seri Menanti di sini sebagai salah satu Tapak Warisan Dunia Pertubuhan Pendidikan, Saintifik dan Kebudayaan Bangsa-Bangsa Bersatu (UNESCO).

Menurut Pengerusi Jawatankuasa Bertindak Pelancongan, Perpaduan, Kebudayaan, Kesenian, Warisan dan Adat Istiadat Melayu negeri, Datuk Mohammad Razi Kail, pihaknya sudah mengarahkan Lembaga Muzium Negeri Sembilan mengumpulkan kekuatan dan justifikasi yang disyaratkan oleh Jabatan Warisan Negeri bagi melayakkan istana itu mendapat pengiktirafan tersebut.

"Istana bersejarah ini mempunyai kekuatan tersendiri selain hasil ketukangannya yang menjadi lambang keindahan seni bina masyarakat Melayu di negeri ini.

"Daripada segi pelancongan, istana ini juga amat popular dan menjadi destinasi utama pelancong dari dalam dan luar negara selain kalangan penyelidik dan pelajar," kata beliau ketika merasmikan Kolokium 100 Tahun Istana Lama Seri Menanti di Muzium Seri Menanti di sini hari ini.

Teks ucapan beliau dibacakan oleh Timbalan Yang Dipertua Majlis Kebudayaan Negeri Sembilan, Dr. Mahadi Abdul Wahab.

Menurutnya, usaha mendapatkan pengiktirafan tersebut juga adalah satu langkah membantu Negeri Sembilan melindungi Istana Lama Seri Menanti yang berusia 100 tahun pada tahun ini.

"Sewajarnya kita memelihara dan memartabatkan warisan bersejarah yang tinggi nilainya walaupun hari ini negara hebat dilanda arus pembangunan yang pesat," katanya.

Kata beliau, proses bagi mendapatkan status itu daripada UNESCO sedang dilaksanakan di semua peringkat.

Pada Julai lalu, Bandaraya Melaka dan Georgetown, Pulau Pinang berjaya mendapat pengiktirafan sebagai Tapak Warisan Dunia setelah permohonan kepada UNESCO oleh Kementerian Kebudayaan, Kesenian dan Warisan dengan usahasama Kementerian Pelancongan serta kerajaan negeri diluluskan.

Istana Lama Seri Menanti adalah istana yang unik diperbuat daripada kayu yang dibina tanpa menggunakan paku oleh dua tukang kayu bernama Kahar dan Taib pada 1902.

Siap dibina pada 1908 ia kini menjadi satu mercu tanda yang bukan saja kerana kehalusan kerja pembuatan tetapi nilai sejarahnya.

Sementara itu, Kolokium 100 Tahun Istana Lama Seri Menanti yang bertajuk Menatap Seri Senibina Istana Lama Seri Menanti itu dihadiri oleh lebih 50 peserta yang terdiri daripada kakitangan kerajaan dan pelajar.

Ia juga diadakan bersempena dengan program sambutan 100 tahun istana tersebut oleh Lembaga Muzium Negeri Sembilan.

Selain itu, turut diadakan adalah Pameran Tapak Warisan Dunia yang bermula pada 15 sehingga 30 Disember ini.

SEREMBAN 27 Feb. - Kerajaan Negeri Sembilan akan menubuhkan pasukan petugas yang diterajui Lembaga Muzium Negeri Sembilan dalam usaha menjadikan Istana Lama Seri Menanti sebagai tapak warisan dunia oleh UNESCO.

Pengerusi Jawatankuasa Pelancongan, Perpaduan, Kebudayaan, Kesenian, Warisan dan Adat Istiadat Melayu Negeri Sembilan, Datuk Mohammad Razi Kail berkata, pasukan petugas itu akan menyediakan dan memenuhi apa juga syarat, kriteria dan justifikasi seperti mana yang dikehendaki UNESCO.

"Bukannya mudah bagi UNESCO mengisytiharkan sesuatu tapak warisan itu sebagai tapak warisan dunia. Kita perlu mematuhi dan memenuhi syarat, kriteria dan justifikasi yang ditetapkan oleh UNESCO," katanya di sini hari ini.

Mohammad Razi berkata, usaha untuk menjadikan Istana Lama Seri Menanti sebagai tapak warisan dunia dibuat berikutan pengisytiharannya sebagai warisan negara oleh Kementerian Perpaduan, Kebudayaan, Kesenian dan Warisan baru-baru ini.

Istana Lama Seri Menanti setinggi empat tingkat dibina di pusat pemerintahan diraja iaitu Seri Menanti, Kuala Pilah, pada tahun 1902 dan siap pada tahun 1908. Keunikannya ialah ia diperbuat daripada kayu yang tidak menggunakan sebarang paku besi tetapi menggunakan pasak kayu. - Bernama

Royal Town Of Seri Menanti To Witness Installation Of Negeri Sembilan Ruler

KUALA PILAH, Oct 20 (Bernama) -- Negeri Sembilan will witness the installation of the state's 11th Yang Dipertuan Besar, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, in a ceremony steep in tradition at the Throne Room of Istana Besar Seri Menanti on Oct 26.

Events in the installation will take place at the Royal Town of Seri Menanti from Oct 22 until Oct 28, 2009, according to Tunku Besar Seri Menanti Tunku Ali Redhauddin Tuanku Muhriz.

This will be the first occassion for such an event to take place in more than 40 years since the ceremony when Tuanku Ja'afar Tuanku Abdul Rahman was installed as the 10th Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan on April 18, 1967.

The installation ceremony on Oct 26 is the culmination of an almost year-long process beginning with the proclamation of Tuanku Muhriz as the 11th Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan on Dec 29, 2008 following the demise of Tuanku Ja'afar two days earlier.

In a process unique to Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz was elected to the position by the 'Undang Yang Empat' - the Ruling Chiefs of Sungei Ujong, Jelebu, Johol and Rembau.

INSTALLATION PERIOD

The installation begins with the ceremony to emplace the Royal Regalia in the forecourt of Istana Besar Seri Menanti on Oct 22. This function will be carried out by the Ninety Nine Ceremonial Guards led by Datuk Seri Amar Diraja and witnessed by the Tunku Besar Seri Menanti.

Items in the Negeri Sembilan Royal Regalia are eight yellow-fringed umbrella, eight tassled lances, eight long sabres and eight 'tonggol' bearing the state's royal colours of yellow, black and red.

The Royal Regalia will be at the palace's forecourt for seven days until the ceremony is over. A two-gun salute will be fired to mark this event.

This event will be followed by the 'Istiadat Bersiram' (Royal Bathing Ceremony) on Oct 25, involving Tuanku Muhriz and Tunku Ampuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Aishah Rohani Tengku Besar Mahmud.

Their Royal Highnesses will be carried from Istana Besar Seri Menanti on the Royal Carriage to the Ceremonial Dais where an eight-gun salute will be fired.

The ceremony will be carried out by 'Orang Empat Istana' (Senior Ceremonial Officers). Their Royal Highnesses will then be escorted back to the Istana Besar Seri Menanti where another eight-gun salute will be fired.

INSTALLATION CEREMONY

The Installation Ceremony itself will take place on Oct 26 at the Throne Room of Istana Besar Seri Menanti. The ceremony begins in the morning with the arrival of the Menteri Besar and Tunku Besar Tampin at the palace's forecourt.

After spending the previous night at their respective transitory homes in Seri Menanti, each of the 'Undang Yang Empat' will arrive at the palace's compound and spend a short period in a specially constructed pavillion before moving on foot into the palace accompanied by the respective officials as a 15-gun salute is fired.

The Four Ruling Chiefs - Undang Luak Sungai Ujong will move from Balai Melintang, Undang Luak Jelebu (Balai Serong), Undang Luak Johol (Balai Bertingkat) and Undang Luak Rembau (Balai Panjang).

At this juncture, the other senior guests will arrive at the palace including either the Raja Muda or Tengku Mahkota reprsentatives of the Malay Rulers as well as the Yang Dipertua Negeri of Pulau Pinang, Melaka, Sabah and as well as the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister.

GUARD OF HONOUR

Once everyone take their seats at the forecourt of Istana Besar Seri Menanti, the Yang Dipertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan, escorted by 'Orang Empat Istana' will inspect the guard-of-honour.

After this, the guests will take their respective seats in the Throne Room, both the Royal Highnesses Yang Dipertuan Besar and Tunku Ampuan Besar will enter accompanied by the Orang Empat istana and Putera Yang Empat (Four Senior Princes) before taking their respective place on the throne.

Then the Datuk Bentara Kanan will request the consent of the Yang Dipertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan for the ceremony to begin. The former then calls on the Datuk Undang Luak Sungai Ujong, who speaks on behalf of the Undang Yang Empat, to rise and proclaim the installation of the Yang Dipertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan.

This will be followed by the shouts "Daulat Tuanku, Daulat Tuanku, Daulat Tuanku".

The Datuk Bentara Kanan will then proclaim that the installation ceremony is completed and this followed with the "Daulat Tuanku" for three times followed by those in attendance.

This is followed by the playing of the state anthem and a 32-gun salute.

The next segment is the paying of homage by the Undang Yang Empat, followed by the other officials like Datuk Shahbandar Sungai Ujong, Penghulu Luak Tanah Mengandung and Datuk Lembaga Tiang Balai.

The Menteri Besar then makes a congratulatory statement and affirms his loyalty to the Negeri Sembilan Ruler.

Tuanku Muhriz then makes a speech after which the State Mufti recites the 'doa'. Finally Datuk Seri Amar Diraja will make a statement concluding the Installation Ceremony.

PRECEDED BY A NUMBER OF IMPORTANT ACTIVITIES

The Installation Ceremony is preceded by a number of important events, some unique to Negeri Sembilan royal customs and traditions and others common to the Malay Royal Households.

Among them is the requesting the presence of Undang Yang Empat, done in person by the Orang Empat Istana. Those common to all the Royal Households include the process of formally inviting the Malay Rulers including the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan of Brunei and Governors of Pulau Pinang, Melaka, Sabah and Sarawak.

The invitations were carried out in person by special envoys led by the Tunku Besar Seri Menanti and also involve Tunku Zain Al-Abidin Tuanku Muhriz, Tunku Alang Tunku Datuk Seri Iskandar, Tunku Panglima Besar Tunku Abdullah and Tunku Imam Tunku Datuk Seri Mahmud Tunku Besar Burhanuddin, accompanied by the State Secretary, Exco members and Secretary of Dewan Keadilan and Undang Negeri Sembilan.

The Installation Ceremony of the 11th Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan is among the three significant events in the state this year.

Last April 14, Tuanku Aishah Rohani Tengku Besar Mahmud was formally installed as Tunku Ampuan Besar Negeri Sembilan.

On Feb 22, Tunku Besar Tunku Ali Redhauddin Tuanku Muhriz, the most senior of Putera Yang Empat was installed, taking over his father's position.

DIRECT DESCENDANT

Tuanku Muhriz is the direct descendant of an unbroken line that goes back 200 years to and before that, to the Sultans of Pagar Ruyong in Sumatra.

His Royal Highness was born on Jan 14, 1945 and the only son of Tuanku Munawir Tuanku Abdul Rahman and Tunku Ampuan Durah Tuanku Besar Burhanuddin.

Tuanku Muhriz was named Tunku Laksamana (second in rank amongst the Putera Yang Empat) in 1960 and became Tunku Besar Seri Menanti (the most senior of the Putera Yang Empat) in 1961, a title he held for 47 years.

Brought up in Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz received his education at Sekolah Tuanku Muhammad in Kuala Pilah and Sekolah Tunku Besar Tampin as well as Sekolah Menengah King George V in Seremban.

STUDIED LAW

Tuanku Muhriz attended Aldenham School in the United Kingdom where he completed his O Levels and A Levels. He then studied law at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth where he graduated with the LLB in 1970.

After returning to Malaysia, Tuanku Muhriz began his diverse career which included working in banking, financial services and advertising sectors.

His Royal Highness has contributed to a variety of charitable causes particularly in expanding educational opportunities through membership of the Board of Trustees of the Tinggi Foundation. Tuanku Muhriz was also appointed to the board of a Malaysian-based public company and companies with foreign interest operating in Malaysia.

Prior to being proclaimed as the 11th Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz sat on the board of a regional bank.

Tuanku Muhriz married Tuanku Aishah Rohani on April 25, 1974 with ceremonies held at Istana Maziah Kuala Terengganu, Istana Lama Seri Menanti and a reception held at Istana Munarah in Seremban.

The royal couple has three princes - Tunku Besar Seri Menanti Tunku Ali Redhauddin, Tunku Zain Al-Abidin and Tunku Alif Hussein Saifuddin Al-Amin.
