The Pinnacle would be the tallest public housing project here, the product of an international architecture competition. Seven 50 storey blocks linked by skygarden bridges at 50th and 26th levels.

I love the trend of putting greenery on buildings/inside buildings transparent facades. It reflects the growing consciousness of environemental problems and more ecological thinking.

Probably around USD 200-300K but these are pubkic housing, so are cheaper.:)

I saw the rest of the design in the competition for this project, this is one of the worst. They choose this probably because of the low cost...........what a waste, such iconic project but with such a "****" design...

maybe its weird facade has a functional purpose. It would be forgivable then. But if its merely "architectural design" then i really hoped this was -20floors or something

on the contrary I like the layout of the blocks - they maximise the views and minimise the sense of claustrophobia you often see in such mass public housing projects, where the blocks are arranged in a tightly packed grid...some of the other design proposals looked like prisons.

Well I feel the facade is quite boring, the typical "box" designs. But then again, it aligns with the plot boundary, and yes is not that crammed, unlike WOHA's design (very crammed).
I like the layout and concept, but the facade could be improved. Then again it's public housing, so I don't expect high costing materials.

It is actually a mix of balconies, bay windows and planter boxes in a random order which gives the outlook. But then again, this on its own can be considered "architectural design".

it's a nice idea but i think it's a bit overdone.
and i'm not keen on the steel cross-braising frames supporting all these skygardens - look a bit too industrial to me...
then again, needa give some credits to the project for it being quite adventurous...

I have to agree with yeah, like the garden concept but architectutally 'messy' and boxy and reminisce of a commieblock! Yeah I understand it is an affordable condo but it doesn't have to look like a 'project' condo. project=low cost/cheap.

Its public housing, which is meant to be cheap. A unit costs approx S$300 000 I think. Though I still wished Zaha Hadid won the competition.

sorry but the facade is hideous. it's much to messy, looks like those fields of aircon split units on the facades of many hong kong highrises. but for HDB it is very impressive with the gardens etc.

March 25th, 2007, 05:02 AM
I disagree, this building is amazing! Of course the facade doesn't look great at the moment it's less than half built, they're not going to do the final painting and details on the facade for a while yet. Have some faith, some of the other recent HDB blocks of flats have looked stunning, this is their flagship project, they're not going to settle for something that looks crap.

yes..its only half done....
im quite amazed how some pple here expect this project to look great....this is a public housing project with the prices of units set below market price...
corners are cut everywhere to reduce costs...and asthetics are the lst to go.
however, singapore's quality of public housing has much better quality than most countries..
but this is the first project that has a skygarden and i have met the architect who designed it:)

That is cool kurakura!
My hopes for this project are to see the final cladding being implemented (and hope it will look sophisticated), and of course, to enjoy the stunning city & sea views from the roof deck :)
One of my friends has obtained a unit on the 40+ floor, so hope to check it out upon completion, and I dont think it will complete in time for F1 next year, which is not being held in this area anyway...
