Current word is that hotels will open in mid-April. Casino will probably take a while longer, MBS is targeting "Q2" which means by end of June.

Asian Art Basel at Marina

6 Feb 2010

http://www.straitstimes.com/STI/STIMEDIA/image/20100205/05life1.jpg
'Marina Bay Sands was clearly the most beautiful. It sits directly on the waterfront, which allows us to play with the presentation of the artworks and create an element of surprise for visitors' - Mr Lorenzo Rudolf, on why he is setting up the art fair in Singapore

For years, Singapore delegations who visited the prestigious Art Basel art fair tried to woo its director to set up a similar fair here.

But Mr Lorenzo Rudolf, who helmed Art Basel from 1991 to 2000, was not interested.

Things have changed and the 50-year-old Swiss national is now putting together a high-end art fair here with the backing and support of the Economic Development Board and the Singapore Tourism Board.

Neither organisation would disclose the budget for the annual event, but it will start in January next year and it will be held at the Marina Bay Sands integrated resort.

The fair also has the backing of the National Arts Council and the National Heritage Board.

Speaking to Life! at the Pan-Pacific Hotel, Mr Rudolf says that Singapore and the Asian market are ready for a fair to rival the world's best art fairs.

Asked why he turned down Singapore's earlier overtures, he says: 'I did not see the point of re-creating an Art Basel in Singapore. If collectors and art lovers wanted to see an Art Basel, they would go there. What was needed was something with a unique identity and branding.'

The art fair in the little Swiss town of Basel, nestled on the banks of the River Rhine between France and Germany, has been the focus of the art world for years.

About 800 art galleries from around the world vie for a place at the fair each year, but fewer than 300 are chosen.

The Singapore fair, to be held from Jan 12 to 16 next year, will feature 100 to 120 of the world's top galleries. They are expected to bring in the works of top artists.

The names of the galleries and the artists that will be featured are still being confirmed, but novices and seasoned art collectors alike will have the chance to see the works of modern masters such as Japanese artist Takashi Murakami and Indian artist Subodh Gupta.

Speaking of the venue, Mr Rudolf says: 'Marina Bay Sands worked for us because of its location. If you want to do an event this size, the venue has to be appropriate. There are not too many venues which can accommodate a fair of this size and Marina Bay Sands was clearly the most beautiful. It sits directly on the waterfront, which allows us to play with the presentation of the artworks and create an element of surprise for visitors.'

Beyond the venue, he feels Singapore's location too will have a big part to play in the success of this fair.

He says: 'I am confident of Singapore's ability to emerge as the hub for contemporary art in the Asian region. Singapore has a lot of advantages, right from its location and its infrastructure to its understanding of what is happening in the contemporary art world.'

He also feels the time is right for a major art fair here. And he speaks from experience.

Apart from being the former director of Art Basel and the creator of Art Basel Miami Beach, he also has a strong Asian connection.

In 2006, he helped create a new international art fair in Shanghai. Called ShContemporary, it attracted 35,000 visitors with its very first edition in 2007 and has emerged as one of the largest art events in the Asia-Pacific region.

He says: 'I felt this was the right time to set up an art fair here because a lot has changed. China and India are merely the beginning. There are lots more interesting developments happening in countries such as Indonesia, Philippines and Thailand.

'So what we are creating is an event that will serve as a platform to show the entire world what is going on in Asia. In terms of significance, some people may dub it the Art Basel of Asia but I can assure you that contentwise, it will not be a copy.'

Beyond the numbers, such as the number of people the fair is likely to attract and the revenue it will generate, he feels the fair will be an important platform bridging the Eastern and Western art worlds.

'It is not just about the bottom-line. I am more interested in the dialogue such an event generates and how that dialogue furthers the cause of art,' he says.

What about OUR MBS ---- we were to have the glory of opening First :-(

Singapore’s first casino is thought to be ready to open its doors this weekend at Resorts World Sentosa (RWS).

Although owner, Malaysian gaming and leisure giant Genting Berhad, is remaining tight-lipped, it is understood that staff and retailers have been briefed to prepare for an opening timed to coincide with the start of the Chinese New Year holiday.

RWS was granted its casino licence last week.

Four of the resort’s hotels have already opened and RWS has announced that the resort’s substantial entertainment, gaming and conference facilities will come online in phases this year. It is believed that the Universal Studios theme park may open the day before the casino itself.

Chief rival, the Marina Bay Sands, has been plagued by delays and has said it will not be ready to open until mid-April at the earliest.

Keith Wee, an analyst at Malaysia’s OSK Research, told media: “The early opening ahead of Marina Bay Sands will be positive as it allows RWS to reap the full benefits of a monopoly during the peak Chinese New Year festive season.”

Singapore is banking on both new complexes not only to generate substantial gaming revenue, estimated to be in excess of US$3 billion, but to revitalise its leisure tourism and consolidate its position as one of the world’s leading corporate events and conference destinations.

Fully opened Resorts World Sentosa will add around 1,200 new hotel rooms in six different properties with Marina Bay Sands adding a further 2,600, representing an unprecedented surge in the island state’s hotel capacity. In addition, both complexes will offer large-scale amounts of conference and exhibition space.

Local businesses are also looking to benefit, Singapore’s taxi companies have now added a S$3 (US$2.11) pick-up fee from the resort. SMRT taxis introduced the surcharge in January and Comfort cabs have announced a similar fee starting from this Friday in anticipation of the opening.

{"s" : "lvs","k" : "c10,l10,p20,t10","o" : "","j" : ""} Press Release Source: Las Vegas Sands On Tuesday February 23, 2010, 4:58 pm
LAS VEGAS, NV--(Marketwire - 02/23/10) - Las Vegas Sands Corp. (NYSE:LVS - News) announced today it plans to open the first phase of its $5.5 billion Marina Bay Sands development on April 27, 2010. Arguably one of the world's most challenging construction projects and certainly the most expensive stand-alone integrated resort property ever built, Marina Bay Sands will immediately go to work by hosting its first event, the Inter-Pacific Bar Association's annual conference, just days after opening its doors.

"Nearly four years ago, we embarked on a journey we believed would define the future of our company and at the same time change the face of tourism in Singapore and the South Asian region for decades to come. Now, as we approach the opening of Marina Bay Sands -- one of the most remarkable leisure and business destinations ever created -- it seems both of those ambitions are about to come true," said Las Vegas Sands Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Sheldon G. Adelson.

"Despite the challenging, and at times unprecedented economic conditions companies like ours recently faced, our dedication to completing this development never wavered, not even for a second. That determination defines this company as much as our ability to create and develop masterpieces such as Marina Bay Sands. We have no doubt the property will be a tremendous success, but how we got to this point will be every bit as important to the future prospects of our company," said Mr. Adelson.

Marina Bay Sands Chief Executive Officer Thomas Arasi said the property is planning for 963 hotel rooms, part of the shopping mall and convention center, celebrity chef restaurants along with other dining outlets and the casino to open on April 27 subject to construction proceeding as scheduled and being able to attain the necessary regulatory approvals.

The second phase, which includes the Sands SkyPark™, the Event Plaza along Marina Bay, more shops from the world's leading retailers, additional dining options, and exciting nightlife offerings, will open on June 23 as part of the property's grand opening celebration, Mr. Arasi said. In October, one of the property's two state-of-the-art theatres will welcome Disney's The Lion King. The second theatre, which will also open later this year, will be home to a variety of special events and famous headline acts. The iconic Marina Bay Sands museum, expected to open by December, will not only feature international blockbuster exhibitions, but it will also serve -- with its unique lotus-inspired design -- as a symbolic welcome to guests from around the globe.

"We are intently focused on meeting our construction timeline and preparing our team for opening and operating this extraordinary destination. We extend our gratitude to the people and government of Singapore for their steadfast support. We are confident Marina Bay Sands will make Singaporeans proud and that it will have visitors from all parts of the world traveling to Singapore to see it themselves."

"While the opening of Marina Bay Sands is exciting on many fronts, the introduction of our first development in South Asia also represents an important geographical milestone for Las Vegas Sands. The launch of Marina Bay Sands, in combination with our significant presence in the growing Macau market, positions us to realize substantial long-term financial benefits through our proximity to many of the world's fastest growing economies, both in North and South Asia. It will also make us less dependent on our operations in locations where the economy is still working to recover," said Michael Leven, the company's president and chief operating officer. "Singapore also provides another platform to demonstrate our position as the leading innovator of these large-scale, economy-changing business and tourism developments -- a role which puts us in a superior position to pursue and secure future growth opportunities globally."

EDITOR'S NOTES:

In May of 2006, after a highly-competitive bidding process, the Singapore government selected Las Vegas Sands to build the country's first integrated resort property. Marina Bay Sands will be one of only two resort-casino properties in the Southeast Asia city-state and will operate as such for a period of 30 years.

Las Vegas Sands has announced that the first phase of its US$5.5 billion Marina Bay Sands (MBS) development will open on April 27, 2010. ?According to a statement on its website, the launch will be followed just days after by its first event, the Inter-Pacific Bar Association’s annual conference.

Then on June 23, MBS’s second phase will open, unveiling the SkyPark and Event Plaza.

MBS Chief Executive Officer Thomas Arasi said the property is planning for 963 hotel rooms, part of the shopping mall and convention centre, celebrity chef restaurants along with other dining outlets and the casino to open on April 27, subject to construction going on as scheduled and being able to attain the necessary regulatory approvals.

The second phase, which includes the Sands SkyPark, the Event Plaza along Marina Bay, more upscale retailers, additional dining options and nightlife offerings, will open on June 23 as part of the property's grand opening celebration, Arasi added.

The complex, described by its developer as "one of the world's most challenging construction projects" has been plagued by financing woes due to the global financial crunch was supposed to have opened end of last year. Its rival integrated resort Resorts World Sentosa pipped it by opening on the Chinese New Year weekend.

If you look at the back of Sands which is ECP, theres a ERP installed there to charge motorists going to the east. Therefore I think they probably built the ERP to close the gap for people who wants to avoid the ERP by driving into sands from CBD but I might be wrong though.

Edit: By the way now its possible now to walk into the central promontory which is in front of mbfc to enjoy the sea breeze and the nice scenery of Marina Bay. From there, you can proceed to walk towards the sands convention hall but it would be preferable to sneak in at night as the workers will not stop you from entering.

Taking short-cut thru Bayfront Ave. will end up meeting more ERPs. IMO the the gantry at MBS is just to balance on sentosa entry charges which effect RWS.

I see you put up a lot of watermarks to indicate your ownership. Does it protect your work?

Frankly the guy just collates and puts up your photos - in a way this is good publicity and you should feel honoured. HOWEVER if someone was to take and use the photos in a publication to make $$ and you don't get a cent, now that's very bad.

There are some, not many who would "loot" photos because they are possession mad. If they had not been there (in the photo), collecting photos (without permission) is like collecting paper without a clear idea what you want to do with it. You can always tell a good and honest story behind each photo only when you have been in that place before.

For those who are interested in going into central promontory, the entrance is at the guardhouse which is just beside one marina boulevard. From there, you can basically walk to the convention hall in sands as no one will stop you at night. I have went a few times after work to relax at night, believe me the scenery from this side of marina bay is great at night. :)

SINGAPORE : Staff of Marina Bay Sands have started to move into their new home at Bayfront Avenue, as they prepare for the resort's opening on April 27.

The first team moved in just after 9am on Monday, an auspicious time according to the Marina Bay Sands' feng shui consultant.

Teams from Food & Beverage, Hotel Housekeeping, Facilities and IT were the first to move in.

By the end of next month, thousands of employees would have moved in.

Staff will be served hot cooked meals at two dining rooms.

The two staff dining rooms are expected to serve 2.5 million meals a year round the clock.

Very true, deserves its own Nat Geo program!
Knowing Discovery Networks Asia, they'll prolly do combo on RWS and MBS, perhaps in time for Singapore's National Day, just like the recent The A380 Saga, which was nothing more than a plug on SQ bringing the A380 into service and dealing with the associated delays... And they'll only show it in Discovery Channel South East Asia.

EDIT: Maybe they'll just expand on the Circle Line program instead, since from April 17, the CCL will be half opened.

Hmmm. Actually, I wonder why don't we have a culture of using helicopters? Do we not have enough super-rich people to warrant a helipad at RWS and MBS especially to shuttle the super-rich around?

In HK, the service to Macau isn't all that unreasonable if you're traveling in a group of 4 or 5... Such a service could work, MBS to the airport, maybe future service to Batam or JB...

MBS has already confirmed the phase opening. Opening on 27th April would be 963 of 2,500 ++ hotels rooms, some shops, Casino. Skypark wont be ready until June. One of two theatres would open together with skypark and other later in the year. Museum (Lotus shaped) open in Dec.

Fully operational by Dec 2010. Contractors are racing around the clock. Lights up of halls are seen in the night. Helix bridge is also lighted up.

By April, cranes would be gone from the towers...if I am not wrong.

There is no neighbour lot next to it.. it is the design... the neighbours is its own convention hall..

There will be no cost for entry to the skypark i guess since the restaurants are there. Although i am pretty sure certain section will be close for hotel occupants like the swimming pool.

In terms of amusement rides, it will be a terrific idea to have one that is on top of a building, just like the one in vegas...

Very nice idea for the second Crystal Pavilion (after LV in the first one). Marina Bay's gonna rock!

Pangaea at Marina Bay Sands set to be region’s top party destination

Ultra-lounge bottle club with celebrity followers in New York and London launches its most ambitious project in a “floating” Crystal Pavilion
Singapore (5 March 2010)

Marina Bay Sands announced today that Pangaea, a world renowned and exclusive high-end entertainment venue, will make its Asian debut in one of the world’s most spectacular locations, one of the resort’s glass and steel Crystal Pavilions “floating” on the water at Marina Bay.

Pangaea means “all lands” in Greek and is synonymous with sophisticated world-class nightclubs that attract A-list celebrities. Pangaea will occupy the first level of the southern Crystal Pavilion at Marina Bay Sands and will be accessible through a tunnel under the water. The ultra-lounge will be able to host up to 500 party-goers a night. The space is leased by Korean entertainment corporation, Kraze Inc.

Mr. David Sylvester, Vice President Retail Asia, Las Vegas Sands Corp. said once Kraze Inc. had secured this unique structure their hunt for prominent entertainment operators became a priority. “Marina Bay Sands’ goal is to attract the biggest, the best and the most exclusive brands to our property to create once-in-a-lifetime experiences for visitors. Kraze’s vision to bring the most renowned operators is in line with our goal. Pangaea has been a legendary brand in leading cities including New York, Miami and London. It will offer Singapore high-energy nightlife. This is a first-class addition to Marina Bay Sands and we are very proud to have such a celebrated venue,” said Mr. Sylvester.

Pangaea’s founder and operator Michael Ault says his latest club at Marina Bay Sands will be his most exclusive, most expensive and most ambitious project yet. He said the combination of Singapore’s strategic location and the unique architecture of Marina Bay Sands, especially the Crystal Pavilion, made it an easy decision to open his first entertainment venue in Asia. “Our intention is to build the greatest entertainment spot on the planet and Singapore is currently the most exciting city in the world. Marina Bay Sands is clearly the most spectacular project underway. It is architecturally the most impressive, multi-use destination that I have ever seen and for us, it is the perfect place to take our most ambitious journey yet. We simply can’t wait to develop Singapore into a party destination,” said Mr. Ault.

Michael Ault is widely credited for inventing the Ultra-Lounge and Bottle Service – a feature where patrons can purchase an entire bottle of liquor for their personal consumption. His venues have hosted a string of celebrities like Madonna, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Moss and Will Smith.

Pangaea and the Crystal Pavilion will open in the second half of the year. Marina Bay Sands will be announcing its second exclusive entertainment venue on the upper levels of the crystal pavilion soon.

Famed nightclub Avalon chooses Marina Bay Sands as its first location outside the U.S

Entertainment options at Marina Bay Sands set new standard as renowned US nightclub brand comes to Singapore with Korean partner Kraze
Singapore (11 March 2010)

Marina Bay Sands today announced that Avalon, a Los Angeles nightclub with celebrity partners including actors Dan Ackroyd and Bruce Willis, has chosen Marina Bay Sands as the location for their latest hotspot. The nightclub will be housed in one of Marina Bay Sands’ unique Crystal Pavilions, transforming the nightlife in Southeast Asia.

The Crystal Pavilions literally sit on the water at Marina Bay. Avalon joins Pangaea, a renowned club in New York, Miami and London, to bring the Crystal Pavilion to life and to make Marina Bay Sands the new entertainment epicenter in Singapore. Avalon has been a magnet for celebrities in Hollywood and has set the international standard for the “big” nightclub experience since 1997.

In Hollywood, Avalon attracts the leading dance music DJs and top concert acts. It is the venue of choice for annual parties for the Oscars, the Emmys, MTV Music Awards and the Grammy A wards.

Avalon Singapore will feature work by top US designers to create a one-of-a-kind experience. At Marina Bay Sands, the sound and audio system will be the most ambitious of its kind.

Mr. David Sylvester, Vice President Retail Asia, Las Vegas Sands Corporation said, “With Avalon’s commitment to excellence in hosting world-class entertainment and a reputation as a celebrity haunt, Marina Bay Sands has set the entertainment benchmark incredibly high. We are ecstatic that our guests will be able to experience the hottest nightlife in the world right here in Singapore.” Avalon co-founder Mr. Steven Adelman said, “Avalon Singapore offers a unique and exciting opportunity. The combination of Marina Bay Sands’ iconic Crystal Pavilion, our partnership with Kraze Entertainment and our experienced team, creates a thrilling formula. Our sole goal is to create the ultimate entertainment destination.”

Last week, the resort announced that Pangaea, the Ultra-Lounge that swiftly dominated leading cities including New York and London, is launching its most exciting and ambitious project on its property. Pangaea will be located on level one of the Crystal Pavilion and Avalon on the top two levels.

What lengths would you go to for a spot in the latest season of the Amazing Race Asia?

More than 57 storeys and 200m above ground literally, for a couple who recorded their journey to the top of the yet-to-be-opened Marina Bay Sands (MBS) integrated resort.

The pair, a Caucasian man and an Asian woman, managed to enter the restricted Marina Bay Sands construction site, climbing a combination of stairs and ladders, then traversing several makeshift structures to reach the structure's summit - the SkyPark.

The footage of their mini-adventure - which was filmed for the audition of the Amazing Race Asia, the Asian edition of the popular reality television series - was posted last week on Stomp (http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/3552/4124/340318), Singapore Press Holdings' citizen journalism website.

Other than donning a white helmet and fluorescent vest each, the pair did not appear to have been using any safety equipment.

The couple, who are not named, are also captured standing precariously close to the edge of what appears to be the SkyPark at the end of the three-minute video.

That is very dangerous without safety belt as there are too many construction materials and other objects which can pose danger. Can't imagine what might happened if the couple slip :badnews:

I don't believe they 'happened' to go in without anyone noticing. They must've found a low level manager, paid him a significant amount of money so they could enter and do their thing.

According to Stomp they were "...given a full safety course, full safety equipment and signed into and escorted around..."

I did not see other safety equipment other than the helmet and fluorescent vest ...don't tell me they call this safety equipment :ohno: I though safety belt was mendatory going up there during the construction work period.

The pair, a Caucasian man and an Asian woman, managed to enter the restricted Marina Bay Sands construction site, climbing a combination of stairs and ladders, then traversing several makeshift structures to reach the structure's summit - the SkyPark.

The man, identified only as "Malcolm" on Stomp, told the citizen journalism website that he and his girlfriend created the audition video for The Amazing Race Asia.

He does not say how they were given permission to access the Marina Bay Sands (MBS) site, although he said: "While it was fun to be filmed at Marina Bay Sands, please note that we were given a full safety course, full safety equipment and signed into and escorted around this new and wonderful icon of Singapore."

But according to The Straits Times, the couple did not have any safety equipment apart from the helmets and flourescent vests they were wearing.

A spokesperson from MBS said a contractor had brought the couple to the site without official permission.
The contractor has been sacked since news of the incident became public

It's a major construction site with high human traffic and not much of an incentive for thiefs or whatever. If they got their basic safety gear and don't disturb anyone's work, why would anyone bother interrupting their work to check? I can't judge about this particular site but there have been many instances on this forum of "visitors" going up unfinished skyscrapers without ever being noticed or asked anything.
Two most notable examples of this on SSC are the Burj Khalifa in Dubai (some people actually base-jumped from there last year after it was topped, it was of course totally illegal) and Shanghai World Financial Centre, where security was reportedly especially lousy.

I know the 2 other cases you speak of BUT in this instance, the picture of them on the "wherever-they-were" is a dead giveaway. I'd imagine that where they were standing is rather dangerous and IF they set their cameras to automatic, they'd be alot of calibration and adjustments needed.

PLUS the article subsequently posted already says that they had help.

There is one work site entrance at marina south for construction vehicle to drive in and go below sheares bridge and also the new bridge. If all construction vehicle can be diverted and enter from there, then I think it is ok. Cannot imagine cement truck still passing the front of the hotels. And also the tower cranes must be taken down before opening if not definitely there will be trucks parking infront of hotel with stuff for the crane to hoist up...

Instead of having two separate phase launches in April and June, they should merge them together on the 27 May with a big bang approach !

That will give enough time to wrap up.

Don't think any visitors want to visit a dusty construction site ?

With the glitches at RWS, I hope Sand IR will be a perfect and glamorous launch !

btw, the huge worker dormitories between the new visitor centre and Sand IR should be removed before opening....... looks like a sore thumb....

What they can do is just to minimize the disturbance. The workers dorm will still be there....as construction still on-going. Else where u expect them to stay? The cranes & lorries will be appearing in front of hotel too....as u can see, it's needed for constructing the complicated roof structure of the threatre and the museum. Left on card stack-look roof, which may take another 3-4 months to erect....not easy as we have witness how many layers had been laid for the casino & convention roofs.

Marina Bay Sands Singapore Press Release (http://www.marinabaysands.com/assets/pdf/MBSPR422010.pdf)

Long-awaited homecoming for Singapore’s culinary maestro as he helms Sands SkyPark restaurant The Sky on 57

Singapore (1 April 2010) – Marina Bay Sands has brought home Singapore’s most celebrated chef, Justin Quek, to create a brand-new restaurant this summer. Often viewed as Singapore’s favorite culinary son, Chef Justin had enjoyed great success abroad after leaving the Les Amis Group in 2004, creating ripples of excitement as he opened restaurants in Shanghai and Taipei.

This time, his homecoming will coincide with the grand opening of Asia’s most exciting destination – Marina Bay Sands. His talent will be taken to new heights, literally, as he will helm The Sky on 57 located on the highest point of the property. “I’ve been away from Singapore for six years and what better way to come home than to partner with Marina Bay Sands, the most exciting development in Singapore. I feel extremely honored to have been chosen by Marina Bay Sands to operate a restaurant on Sands SkyPark . With its panoramic views and iconic location, I’m very confident that The Sky on 57 will be a must-visit for Singaporeans and visitors,” said Chef Justin.

The acclaimed chef will feature Singapore and Asian food in his distinctive new menu and will pair that with his classic French cooking techniques and refined presentation style. “I’m very pleased to welcome Justin Quek to our stellar cast of chefs at Marina Bay Sands. With his broad range of culinary expertise ranging from high-end European to Asian cuisine, Chef Justin will add another dimension to the Marina Bay Sands culinary experience. This is a brilliant pairing of two Singapore icons – one new, and the other familiar – as we celebrate Singapore in our exciting new destination,” said Marina Bay Sands President and CEO Thomas Arasi.

The Sky on 57 will be a signature restaurant that transforms throughout the day. It will kick off with a refined selection of breakfast favorites, followed by a-la-carte and set lunch menus. Afternoon tea will feature savory and sweet creations; as well as gourmet coffee and tea. During sunset, the restaurant will take on a more exclusive vibe, as diners chill out with pre-dinner cocktails while enjoying the spectacular views. Dinner will feature an ever-changing repertoire of signature and new items. Light food and drinks will be on the menu till late in the night.

During the weekends, a distinctive brunch spread will be offered. With its unique setting, The Sky on 57 is also suitable for special events such as celebrations, corporate dinners and social engagements. “This is my boldest experiment yet. There will be various dining experiences to offer guests from early morning till late night, and this gives me lots of opportunities to push my creative boundaries. Being a Singaporean, I am very excited to take part in this new project and help create a restaurant that will do Singapore proud,” said Chef Justin.

The Sands SkyPark is an architectural masterpiece sitting on top of the three hotel towers at Marina Bay Sands. Located 200 meters above ground, this 1.2 hectare tropical oasis is large enough to park four-and- a-half A380 jumbo jets. Besides exclusive restaurants and bars, it will be home to a spectacular public observation deck, lush greenery and a 150-meter infinity swimming pool.

I felt likely going to be delayed ..... also they submitted casino license for approval almost same time as RWS, but now still no news.... something not right.

MBS at ngiht (http://lifestyle.smugmug.com/photos/swfpopup.mg?AlbumID=11778374&AlbumKey=SD8NT)

Wonderful shots Lifestyle-1881! Nothing more to say...

You can see well the lighting scheme I was talking about in my previous post, at the back of the roof of the casino, in the first pictures.

MBS really looks amazing at night, I'm so looking forward its opening!

I do hope so but from what I see it's not going to be fully open and maybe key area only...but they are still working 24x7!

IMO most likely next month for others that cannot make it in time?

Well the Chief Steward on my SQ flight tonight "assured" me that the convention centre at MBS will open on this 27th as there is a HUGE conference booked there ...
Here I sit in my 199 sq mt penthouse suite at the Fairmont gazing out at the work-in-progress & I wonder ... wonder ....

Don't know why links do not work on this site, links are fine on other website that i posted. Anyway, do a search on "The building of Marina Bay Sands in Singapore" in
Youtube, you'll see the videos. There are a total of 6 videos (part 1 to 6) from this
one hour Build It Bigger program.

Cool videos chaut591! Thanks for sharing them. :cheers1:

It unveils some of the structure secrets, like the glass fins on the facade that I thought had only a design role.

MBS is a real architecture and engineering master-piece! I'm really looking forward its completion!

I saw the lighting last night on the deck-card look roof...impressive. The helix bridge lighting is cool...like the facade of ION with LED forming the helix structure.

Thats nice, i have not seen the bridge lit up at night yet.

What a nice grand entrance. I read in the newspaper, that the Louis Vuitton store in Marina Bay Sands, will be floating on Marina Bay. Sounds exciting, many luxury brands are also going to open there like Chanel, Prada, Gucci, Hermes, Cartier, Bulgari, Miu Miu, Burberry, Yves Saint Laurent, Bottega Veneta, Tiffany & Co and Hugo Boss.

Celebrity Chefs, Mario Batali, Wolfgang Puck, Guy Savoy, Santi Santamaria, Daniel Boulud and Tetsuya Wakuda will also open their world class restaurants there.

Really can't wait till opening! just 18 day to go!

As far as I know, other than LV, the rest of the brands that you mention will not be facing the bay directly as their store are in the basement. But however, they all comes in duplex (i know a few confirmed to be duplex, the rest is still planning).

I know Louis Vuitton is located in the crystal pavilion. Why are all the big luxury brands located in the basement? What is located on level one?

i will have to disagree as they have already booked a may5th convention. if they did not know they would make it LVS would have already released the info for those that have to fly. last minute announcement would be unacceptable.

It is okay with the cranes at both crystal pavilions, museum & thearter. They will open even those are presence on the site, because they're still in construction. As long as the convention hall is ready n hotel (the reception area) & 900 plus rooms ready with few restaurants, they will still go ahead. U can't expect not to see a single crane, and there won't be grand opening like u can walk around the front part of the bay as the timber layers on the lower deck still not done by URA. Moreover so many cranes near the crystal pavilion.

The site will be clearer after June....

They can't afford to clear everything and wait for June to give a bang....as long as can make money which they have been eargerly wanted they will open no matter how dusty the surrounding. Just trying to minimize.

The building site across and beside the sands will have a hard time coordinating the mass volume of Sands to make the fluidity of building structures..

Thank you Lifestyle for your almost full-time photo taking of the site.

Looking at the work progress, I believed that they will be completing all cladding of the skypark before 27 april. With that I think the skypark may be opened much early than the target date of June. May be 27 April we can see guest up there...
