Pwede Town Plazas? Hehehe... I really love town plazas... The more if there's a church, a spanish convent, and an old spanish-era municipal building surrounding it. Hehe..

Perez Park
The park consists of seven hectares of fully developed and well-maintained area located at the heart of Lucena City, the provincial capital. It features a children’s playground, a beautifully landscaped garden, a man-made cave, sunken garden and a large area for outdoor dancing. It is considered the largest outside Metro Manila and located at the Capitol Compound, Lucena City, Quezon.

A Walk in the Park (old article)
by Toni de Villa
One wouldn’t dare walk or take their dogs out in the only park Lucena City has ever had. Lights are scarce and one wouldn’t want to get himself in trouble. But this was years ago, when Perez Park doesn’t leave a good mark to most of Lucenahins.
Tracing the history of this park, we owe it to a brilliant man named Don Filemon Perez. He was sent by his father Don Simeon Perez, an influential leader in Lucena, to study in the United States. And there he finished a degree in engineering until such time that he had to go back to the Philippines after a terrible accident that left Don Filemon a widower to his first wife. But later on, he was remarried to a Filipina who a is a local of Lucban and in Lucena, they built a sunken garden that was then donated to the city of Lucena by the Perez family along with tracts of land.
Years passed and the glow that was once there, had been temporarily put to rest. In 2000, a committee was appointed to launch a project that will restore and beautify Perez Park. This is an initiative of the provincial government under Governor Wilfrido Enverga. After making this effort, people started to come back and held activities. In fact, there was a time when people from all ages will come together for a tae-bo session every morning. Each participant will only have to pay P10 just to sweat out. In the afternoon, strollers and photographers are visible. Safety during night time is no longer a problem because of an array of lights that are in place and roving policemen are also present.
Year 2003 is set to make another mark in making this place a better one both for the locals and visitors as they formally launched a project that will make Perez Park a top-of-the-line site. Last December 11, 2003, the opening of phase 1 of was presented to the public. Giant “parols,” Christmas tree and Christmas lights are everywhere. The expected completion of this site is set by 2004. Some highlights that we can look forward to are the skating rink and an ambiance that is much like Libis in Quezon City but catering not only to youngsters but everyone in the family. www.discoverquezon.com

Any proposed parks in Metro Manila? (Milagro to)
Once the New Bilibid Prison , transfers from Muntinlupa City to Tanay , Rizal next year . There will be a spacious park proponent within the area once vacated . There is actually an existing spacious park there with a natural lagoon , grotto , open grounds and old canyon ..but its not that developed .
Also within Filinvest Corporate City in Alabang , I've seen ( in rendering only ) a refreshing urban park with a lagoon and lots of greeneries . Hopefully that rendering will truly materialize in the coming years .

Though not a city, I'd like to share a photo of my little town's (San Pedro, Laguna) plaza. This was my sort of remembrance before I left for Canada. Hindi niyo nga lang makikita kung anong meron dun...pero ang totoo, wala naman kasi talagang makikita!!! That (bob*ng mayor) made our plaza a big parking lot!!!
Jose Rizal once stood at the plaza's center, but they moved it to the left (hidden by the big caballero tree) to give way to the municipal hall's facelift. (Facelift lang talaga kasi yung loob ng munisipyo, bulok at sobrang inuuod na!)The plaza is right in front of San Pedro Parish Church and on its right side is a convent-turned-catholic school (marami daw mumu dun eh). It's a typical Spanish town planning actually... kaya lang hindi na napreserve yung charm just like the other old towns... (wala kasing kwenta ang mga humawak sa bayang 'to eh... puro TRAPO!).
P.S. My apologies for the "political" and off-topic side comments. Di ko mapigilan kasi eh.

28 'Dinosaurs' coming to Bacolod soon
JUST as when the rainy season comes to Negros next year, so would the giant life-like dinosaurs.
Negrenses and Bacoleños who wanted to encounter life-like dinosaurs will soon have the chance as the biggest dinosaur theme park is set to open in the second half of 2007.
Bacolod City tops the list of places to be visited by the theme park after it opens in Manila this week.
By July next year, these dinosaurs will be brought to different provinces in the country with Negros Occidental in the priority list, specifically in Bacolod City and will be placed either at Robinsons Place Mall or SM City-Bacolod.
In Manila, these creatures will be housed in an air-dome tent with a natural rain forest setting. This will be set up at the intersection of Roxas Boulevard-Buendia (the previous site occupied by Boom Na Boom).
But these are not real dinosaurs only mechanical. However, they are designed to produce sounds like those of the real ones.
To be opened on Friday, the P350-million Dino World theme park by Funfare Ventures and Elecomax will be the very first in Southeast Asia and the second largest in the world next to Florida, USA.
It will showcase 28 robotic dinosaurs and about 250 kinds of dinosaur fossils.
These include the uojiangosaurus, tegosaurus, ambeaosaurus, elociraptor, amenchisaurus, sintaosaurus, einonichus, triceratops, rannosaurus, chycephalosaurus, marasaurus, coelosaurus, rasaurolophus, elociraptor, mamenchisaurus, tsintaosaurus, einonichus, tyrannosaurus, pachycephalosaurus, camarasaurus, pteranodon, coelosaurus, parasaurolophus, velociraptor, yangchanosaurus, muraenosaurus, monolophosaurus, tsintaosaurus.
A press statement from Funfare and Elecomax said that Dino World will be open to everyone, especially students from kindergarten to college, who are interested in knowing more about Dinosaurs.
For an entrance fee of only P250, visiting students can also avail free work book about dinosaurs depending on their grade/year level. source (http://www.sunstar.com.ph/static/bac/2006/12/19/news/28.dinosaurs.coming.to.bacolod.soon.html)

In the Jurassic Park movie, they just combined the sounds of different animals to make up a roar for the T-Rex.

Davao i think have extremes there are times its so HOT coming from Celebes Sea ( you know how hot in GenSan) and other times it's COLD from cool mountains (Mt. Apo & Bukidnon ) .. but still we never experience "true" summer this year bec walang week na hindi umuulan ..ummm we are now experiencing Global Warming.

... looks like Kublai won't be finishing his art at the Davao PTA park... he is complaining... the PTA supervisor (a Cenro assisgned personnel) is putting up her own works of art...
Kublai wanted to do a singapore type world class Park (so tourists will have something to talk about... )
but the Head is turning it into a small town plaza.... Kublai says... "she does not know the difference between a PARK and a PLAZA!"
she had her artists paint disney characters!...
Kublai wanted a mindanao tribe motiff presentation in the park.... it's being changed now... the bridge is being changed... he still doesn't know what will happen to the durian roof building... and they're putting up cement flowers! para hindi na daw mag water!
while Kublai was talking... my heart just sunk... I have not seen the changes yet...
just found out... Kublai has not asked for payment.

For a long time I knew it was called plainly Divisoria...
The Official Name of the entire park really is Golden Friendship Park and divided into five namely: (1) Magsaysay Park; (2) Bonifacio Park ;(3) City Kiosk; (4) Rizal Park; and (5) Community Amphitheater.
I think local traders got the name Divisoria because the surrounding areas of the park is the CDO's main business district way back in the 50s and 60s and very much similar to Divisoria in Manila. Up to now, the name Divisoria was retained and the downtown area of CDO is aptly called Divisoria.

coming from a cdo local, i thought you would know why it is called divisoria, but your explanation here is actually incorrect, it is built as a "buffer" from fires, to keep them from spreading around the city, and this buffer divides the city (downtown)... so the name "divisoria"

P72-M People’s Park opens in Davao City
By EDITH REGALADO
The Philippine Star
DAVAO CITY – A P72-million People’s Park opened here Saturday as an added tourist attraction and leisure facility in this leading growth center of the south.
Mayor Rodrigo Duterte led local officials in opening the park, which features a mini-forest and large sculptures representing indigenous groups in Southern Mindanao.
The People’s Park is actually the old PTA Park, which used to be an athletics ground in the city’s downtown area and now planted with trees.
Duterte urged the city’s more than 1.6 million residents to take care of their new park since government funds were spent to develop it.
"This is your park, take care of it. We are all responsible for this park," he said, adding that park attendants and care*givers will be on hand to assist senior citizens who wish to go around the park.
Wheelchairs will be made available for senior citizens and persons with disability to enable them to enjoy the amenities of the park.
Duterte said surveillance cameras are installed in the park’s strategic areas to prevent lovers from being intimate there.
"I have nothing against people in love expressing their feelings but please spare the park from such stupidity. I do not mean to intrude into people’s privacy but surveillance cameras are everywhere in the park to monitor what you are doing," he added.
Duterte also barred commercial establishments in the park "because I do not want to be accused of favoring certain individuals who would be able to put up their stalls (there)."
He said only original Pilipino music or lumad songs will be played in the park.

MANILA, Philippines—Shopping malls are the new public parks. We have kept the old “parks” from the past, like the Luneta, the Manila Bay promenade and the breakwater. Intramuros and Fort Santiago are in eternal re-gentrification, halfway between their glory years during Spanish rule and their nadir during the post-Liberation era when they became a slum colony. Quezon Memorial Circle continues to attract families, but a good part of it has been cemented (or asphalted) over. We have reinvigorated existing facilities, like the La Mesa Dam ecological park, with a lot of help from the NGOs. And we have also shut down existing ones, like the Arroceros garden along the Pasig River. Finally, we have created new ones; Marikina City has cleared the banks of the Marikina River and created idyllic bike lanes that converge into public plazas.
There are good signs that we have begun to reverse the Southeast Asian trend toward the super-mall as the epitome of the public space. Once, during an international conference in Manila, the Filipino hosts brought the foreign guests to an art exhibit at SM Megamall, and until today, many years later, wherever I meet these delegates, they still recall “that trip” to a shopping mall to look at paintings.
I have tried hard to explain that it’s the Pinoy equivalent of visiting a museum or a public park. It’s just that we locate them in malls because these are the only air-conditioned places that are publicly accessible. Look at the other hot and humid cities in Asia, like Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Bangkok. When you live along the earth’s equator, the goal of your entire existence is to avoid the sun and seek out air-conditioning. Still there are lessons to be learned.
One, why is it that local governments are wary of creating public parks? Because very soon they might get run over by informal settlers (“squatters” to most of you). Every unguarded urban space stands the risk of being transformed into an urban slum, and given our laws against forced evictions, the game is to ensure that the settlers are detected immediately and never get to settle in. Moreover, there is the cost of maintenance and the risk that the maintenance crew themselves will settle in.
We are compelled to balance our concern about the urban poor, on one hand, and on the other, about urban blight and public plazas gone to seed. It is, to use the tired slogan, an issue of good governance and the rule of law. We love our parks and, especially at Christmastime, people love to profess their love for the poor. We are all dumbfounded when, finally, we have to choose. My position is that homelessness is too big a problem to be solved by absorbing the homeless in public parks. Converting the Luneta into the “Noli Me Tangere Resettlement Area” will hardly make a dent.
A positive example is a pocket park right on the outer perimeter of the UP Diliman campus, across the Stud Farm (for horses). It used to be just another vacant lot along a busy road, but it was located perilously close to, let us say, “the usual suspects” for “squatter invasions.” It now looks inviting, still close to the road, but with a good breeze and playground facilities for the kids—but with a big difference. It is enclosed on all sides with steel bars and it has a gate, presumably with a lock. It is a hard choice—between giving recreational space to poor families and giving residential lots to even poorer families—and the local government was wise to have heeded Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s counsel: “Good fences make good neighbors.”
Two, government must find partners in the private sector. Public-private partnership is not only the favored way abroad, but for us with a cash-strapped Third World government, it is the sensible way. The La Mesa Watershed Resort and Ecological Park is, I understand, the joint work of the Quezon City government, the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System, and ABS-CBN network’s Bantay Kalikasan Foundation. NGO partners bring in not just desperately needed funds. They bring in expertise, in the person of committed activists and professionals. They bring in the political will as well, because good parks cannot be left to uncaring bureaucrats.
A not-quite-private partner is actually the UP Diliman campus, which has declared its mahogany-shaded avenue a “car-less oval” on Sundays—a veritable public park where entire families jog, bike and picnic. It is the one constructive contribution of UP to the nation; the other contributions are, should we say, de-constructive, given those godless infidels.
Three, we must tolerate the limited “marketization” of the public space. In terms of social mobility, the shopping mall has two faces. It has a democratizing face, because anyone can enter even if only to look and not to buy. For the typical OFW family suddenly armed with disposable income to even venture into that air-conditioned space is a sign of having “arrived.” But it also has an exclusionary face, in that it stratifies the various publics into a pecking order of snobbery, as the quest for middle-class respectability quickly morphs into a taste for upper-class snootiness.
And so the double-sided phenomenon of the tiangge, the flea market. When they invaded the air-conditioned malls, it was the backlash against chain marketing and brand-name consumerism, the re-gentrification of the palengke. But now they have also invaded public plazas, as parks subsidize their upkeep—legitimately—by renting out space to stall operators. This form of marketization must be tightly managed, because it shows the “creeping expropriation” of the public space not by the homeless but, this time, by potential free-riders on the common wealth.

Yes. It's a small version of that Philippine map they have in Luneta. When I was a kid, they really do resemble each other. But as you can see now, they renovated the map we have in Vigan and they added those tourist attractions you can see island to island. For example, as you can see in the picture Palawan has the El Nido, Panay have the Miag-ao Church and Pagsanjan Falls and the Santa Maria Church in the Luzon area.

ciudad fernandina is one of the best! i get this europish feeling everytime i visit the place. won't it be nice if the heritage village is lined up with cafe and restos?! if it won't then develop a similar place near the heritage. vigan is still a bit conservative though, no bars after sunset, or are there now?

Actually there is. The newest being Sitio Bar located at the groundfloor of Vigan Plaza Hotel. Others include 8.88, Lyric, Alad Bar, California Grill located inside the Heritage Resort (in Caoayan), Epectus in Sta. Catalina, Baley Park Bar & Grill in Bantay and I'm not sure if Halftime Sports Bar is still there.
I totally agree with you that Vigan does look European. It's a good thing the city government is doing all their best to maintain the allure of the city.
As to cafes and restos, the city have some to offer though they're quite scattered. But some of them are offering fine street dining (cafe leona and hambre is an example).

I don't like it either. But well, if you like to be hip and nudge elbows w/ the city's 'elite' then that's the place to be seen. I only tried going there once (May 2,2007), eve of the city fiesta. That night Chavit's son Luis was there w/ his posse as well as Gov. DV's son w/ his friends and a bundle of bodyguards. And oh, btw Cong. Ronald Singson was also there 'bartending' that night. Apparently, you can do whatever you want if you're a politician OR a policitian's kid in there. God, talking about having money and power. :ohno:

I used to work in Binan (San Agustin) and lived in San Pedro. It does deserve to become a city, more urbanized and more developed than most Philippine cities. But, yes, there is no park there.

nice resemblance, just give a couple of years for the trees and the hi-rises.

besides, yung kinunan na pic na may concrete na floor is just a small part ng Park, much of the area is totally green naman..and when those trees sa concrete part grows, mas magiging green pa talaga yan :)

Metro Manila needs more green areas, perhaps the government should buy a large plot of land and convert it into an eco park, somewhat like the La Mesa Park, except more open and accessible to the public. Give it some interesting places to visit that will entice people to go into it, like a huge public library in the middle. Manilenos(and probably Filipinos in general) need to learn to appreciate nature more and creating an open green park in MM will help do that.

WiFi access available at Burnham Park
BAGUIO CITY: Burnham Park is the first public park in the entire country to become an “e-tourism park” follo*wing the launching of free WiFi or wireless Internet access at the park lake on Thursday.
Mimo Corp., represented by its president and Baguio-boy Engr. David Sanchez, is providing the needed equipment to make the wireless internet access free to the public, which tourism advocates claimed would further enhance the city’s tourism industry.
With the launching of the e-tourism project, Burnham Park is now a WiFi area, where city residents and tourists could go online and surf the web using laptops, WiFi phones and other portable devices for cyberspace access.
Those who want to have Internet access at Burnham Park will be required to get a password or an access code from the Baguio Tourism Office (BTC) fronting the Skating Rink. WiFi access will only be accessible during the operating hours of the local tourism office, which means Internet access is not a 24-hour service.
Likewise, BTC reserves the right to deny the issuance of a password or access code to any person who is intoxicated or under the influence of illegal drugs or trying to disrupt peace and order within the park.
Councilor Perlita Chan-Rondez, chair of the city council committee on parks and tourism, expressed her thanks to Sanchez and Mimo Corp. for donating the WiFi system, which she underscored as a “pioneering” project to the city’s tourism industry.
Rondez said the project is the start of the transformation of Burnham Park into a global park, as she looked forward to a better partnership between the city government and Mimo Corp.
Mimo Corp. is a pioneering company engaged in the business of installing WiFi connections in Luzon. The Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) is the Internet service provider.
The WiFi access at Burnham Park is also seen to be a big help to thousands of students in Baguio because they could do their assignments using the Internet connectivity without paying or ordering food to have internet access from establishments with a WiFi connection www.manilatimes.net

The Pandacan linear park...
Created by the multinational oil companies that make use of Pandacan as their depot, the linear park serves as a zone of temporary respite not only from the oppressive heat of the sun but also from the industrial raucous that has become Pandacan. Indeed, an uneasy peace exists in Pandacan with the storage tanks being so close to the residences.

P144 million earmarked for Burnham Park rehab
By DEXTER A. SEE
BAGUIO CITY – The national government has earmarked P144 million for the immediate rehabilitation of Burnham Park, the scenic park located in the heart of this mountain resort city.
The national government allotted the amount even if President Arroyo formally turned over the management of the park to the city government last Easter Sunday.
It was learned that the park’s rehabilitation, which is to start soon upon the orders of the President, is divided into four phases to prevent inconvenience to both tourists and residents.
The initial work which is intended to improve the rapidly deteriorating Burnham Park includes earth-moving activities at the famous children’s playground which were supposed to have been started in the early part of this year.
City officials said the earth-moving activities would cost some P4.6 million, while the playground’s facilities would cost P3.5 million.
After the completion of the rehabilitation of the children’s playground, the entrance to the park will be improved to make it more more convenient to visitors.
A large gazebo will be constructed at an area near the entrance.
The playground will have rubber matting, and cartoon characters will be placed along the route. All metal structures will be covered with rubber for the safety of the public.
The children’s biking area will be relocated to a space near its present site and the Baguio orchidarium.
This is intended to prevent the occurrence of accidents that may cause injury to children using the facilities of the playground.
A teen park, which costs approximately over P8 million, will also be built. It will include a skateboard ramp and other extreme sport facilities.
All these facilities are expected to attract more foreign and domestic tourists to visit the park.
Some P4 million has been set aside for the rehabilitation of the Melvin Jones grandstand to enable it to accommodate huge gatherings that, at present, are often held in the park.
The bulk of the fund, which is approximately R124 million, will be utilized for the rehabilitation and upgrading of the Baguio Athletic Bowl to a modern sports arena. This would enable the city to host national and international sports competitions.
Baguio City had been vying to host the prestigious Palarong Pambansa over the past several decades, but the national organizing committee had always rejected its offer because it does not have complete sports facilities.
The R125 million, which is included in the P1.227-trillion national budget this year, will be sourced out from the city’s accumulated share in the taxes paid by locators in the city’s economic zone in the past several years. www.mb.com.ph

Does anyone have pictures of the Smallest Plaza in Guimaras? Is it really the smallest in the country? I approximate it at about 20 sqm, it's so small.

went to the People's Park last night, and i must say, grabe ang tao even at 10:30 pm tourists and the locals were enjoying the world class park. masaya ako kasi ang bilis tumubo ng mga trees, slowly nagiging forest na talaga ang ibang areas. nung last visit ko hindi pa open ang falls at ang sunken garden malapit na rin matapos. ang ganda ng falls area, hindi pa ako nakakita ng ganitong park sa ibang lugar ng pilipinas na may 40-50 foot falls, rivers, sunken gardens, and many more inside the Central Business District. in fact background ng falls ang Marco Polo hotel kaya sobrang ganda. thank you digong for this park, davao is cooooool!
palma gil street, very busy since the opening of the People's Park...
