Dudly February 5th, 2007, 04:30 AM This building is amazing. It would be a perfect substitute for the former WTC in NY if in a twin set. It will look fantastic when completed. Im pretty sure they leave out every floor with 4 in it. there are 4 podium levels, then 4 more levels at concourse level, then 2 plant levels, thus the first "typical office floor is lev11., so the green covered floor=16 above grd.the steel floors are at 31st with core at 41st. BUT as you can see they have labled 51st. if no4 is badluck superstition? if they remove levels 4/14/24/34/44/54/64/74/84/94/104/114. then instead of 118 floors above grd, i think its actually going to be 12 less at 106? i could be wrong. can anyone sort all this mess out.? Culwulla, this is indeed a huge mess, since different people build their buildings very differently. Besides the scheme you mentioned, some also omit floor 13 (for westerners reasons) some dont omit any, while some many omit 4, 14, 24, 34, but not necessarily 44, 54, 64, etc. (this is because 4 sounds like die, 14 sounds like will definitely die, 24 sounds like easy to die, 34 sounds like live or die, but 44 doesn't sound like anything, 54, sounds like won't die (or not die), and the others are not very taboo either (afaik) Taylorhoge February 7th, 2007, 12:09 AM I love it cant wait to see it done. I am no engineer and i dont know if that really is a good explanation though.. That's why I asked :) I figured that BD, tall as it may be, have a LOT of the floor area around the podium thing (the bottom levels on renders) and tapers off really quickly, so I figured ICC has a more uniform floor area throughout its height, so maybe that's why it takes so long, and when finished, even though it might only be 2/3 the height of BD, will have a better area ratio. gladisimo February 8th, 2007, 07:34 AM BTW, it doesn't take an engineer to figure out that if you have a tiny area compared to a big huge one, it'll probably be smaller! (barring any aesthetics and utility space) I think the ICC will be magnificent, independent of any other projects in the world (reference to the massive core) Johan February 8th, 2007, 11:13 AM BTW, it doesn't take an engineer to figure out that if you have a tiny area compared to a big huge one, it'll probably be smaller! (barring any aesthetics and utility space) I think the ICC will be magnificent, independent of any other projects in the world (reference to the massive core) Sure, i was more thinking of the size of each floor, affecting the construction speed. Obviously it makes much more sense to build each floor as large as possible, since you can use elevators etc. more effectively, compared to how much space is lettable/sellable. So in an economical point of view "fat" scrapers always win... Yeah i think ICC is going to be an instant classic! gladisimo February 8th, 2007, 11:19 AM Well there comes a point when evacuation and air conditioning/utilities becomes a problem. Mostly evacuation. Of course in terms of floor area / foot print ratio I agree completely with you. But then again, BD is really well done and aesthetically its tops! Monkey February 9th, 2007, 01:39 AM I don't know why people are so obsessed with the construction speed of this building. It's not as it's stagnant. It makes good progress month on month and it's obviously gonna get there within about a year so what's the fuss? :dunno: great184 February 9th, 2007, 06:24 AM ^^^ if you checked the forum day after day, you would understand the fuss that the forumers create. Not really; 500, 600 or even 700m+ buildings such as the Burj Dubai would look strange in the main skyline; the 2-IFC is already a bit of a misfit. Still, it'd be nice if the restrictions were eventually lifted, if HK develops to a point when it can support 500-600 m skyscrapers. The main business district is on the northern side of Hong Kong Island, which has the southern tip of the Kowloon PENINSULA (not island) facing it. The New airport is located on a separate island that is largely undeveloped (compared to Kowloon and HK Island) called Lantau Island. I really think it has more to do with their building schedule, rather than HK's capability to build fast. This tower was planned to finish in two phases. The first one is due to complete by the end of this year, and the current construction status is already beyond what they need to build for phase 1. And i believe phase 2 is due to complete by end of 2009, so I think that's why the growth of the core, and the floor slabs are slow now. It will pick up later though i think. vincent February 18th, 2007, 11:05 AM maybe thats why it isnt growing as fast as burj dubai? the burj is allready very very slender.. I am no engineer and i dont know if that really is a good explanation though.. you are correct about this. Actually, the Discovery channel program about Burj dubai two weeks ago also mentioned that the higher they go, the flow time to build one floor has decreased due to its floor size (being smaller at top). Abuedz February 18th, 2007, 11:11 AM have also thought it'll have 118 floors or not? thats a fluke from original "floor ht" they reduced it due to some building guidelines... it still remained "118 floors" they change the lower floors designation to retain the "118 floor" but for your information chinese doesnt like numbers that ends with 4. Its location at a major railway interchange will make it convenient to the airport and the rest of the territory via rail lines including the KCRC Northern and Southern links and the proposed Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail. http://www.shkp.com/html/klnstation/images/plan/masterplan_large.jpg Manila-X February 23rd, 2007, 05:21 AM ^^ And it's going to be quite an eyesore... Agree. Don't know why they allowed that building to be built. There was also another supertall planned next to Ocean Terminal but I don't think it went through. hkskyline February 23rd, 2007, 05:53 AM Hanoi Road actually looks really good from Nathan Road further up in Mongkok. ZZ-II March 21st, 2007, 05:22 PM as far as i know 2002 or so Aboveday March 22nd, 2007, 12:20 PM SHKP's Kowloon Station Development Package 6 named The Cullinan Sparkling revelation of Hong Kong's tallest residential blocks http://www.shkp.com.hk/data/press/12/3512/3512_2422_en.jpg 22 March 2007 Sun Hung Kai Properties is naming its Kowloon Station Development Package 6 residential project 'The Cullinan'. This will be Hong Kong's tallest residential building; a luxury project sure to attract international attention. A HK$3-million Sparkling Miracle Show will be held at the Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong in Central this evening (March 22) to unveil the new landmark. New business core The developer is investing over HK$20 billion in Kowloon Station Development Packages 5, 6 & 7, which is the largest integrated project Hong Kong has seen in recent years. Package 6 is the last component and will include the world's third-tallest building International Commerce Centre, The Cullinan, a world-renowned W Hotel and Ritz Carlton, luxury serviced apartment residences and million-square-foot Elements mall. The development has excellent transportation connections as befits major international business centres like Manhattan in New York, Canary Wharf in London and Le Defense in Paris, reinforcing Hong Kong's status as an international city. Tallest residential blocks The twin blocks in The Cullinan will be Hong Kong's tallest residential towers at 270 metres. The project on this prime waterfront location will have glass curtain walls and sweeping views of the harbour. The glass façade will give the twin towers a futuristic image in line with the nearby International Commerce Centre. The Cullinan stands for prestige and luxury Kowloon Station Development Package 6 was named after the 3,106-carat Cullinan diamond found in 1905; the largest diamond in the world. The two largest polished gems from the Cullinan diamond are now mounted on the Scepter and Cross and Imperial State Crown in the British crown jewels, and similarly, the two towers will stand as brilliant gems embodying royal prestige and setting a new international benchmark for luxury residences. HK$3 million opening show The developer is spending HK$3 million to stage a grand ceremony at the Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong to unveil The Cullinan luxury residential development to over 300 guests from business and government. The Sparkling Miracle Show will employ glittering lights and a large mirror on stage for a visual effect echoing the futuristic image of the two towers. The highlight of the show will be shadow dancing on a water-filled stage by six performers in sparkling costumes, graciously unveiling The Cullinan's design. Sun Hung Kai Real Estate Agency Executive Director Victor Lui said: "Its breathtaking height, distinctive appearance and first-rate construction and materials will set The Cullinan apart. The project is the last residential component of the Kowloon Station Development. Its prime site in the heart of a future business hub, prestige and the lack of an equivalent in the market will make it something very special. We believe that the luxury residential project will rank with the finest in the world, appealing to investors from around the globe." The Sparkling Miracle Show will highlight the luxury of The Cullinan, reflecting its exquisite design and the materials, construction and teamwork behind it. The event will fit the project, sparkling like a diamond in the city. Muse March 22nd, 2007, 01:08 PM ^^ Cool :okay: Thanks for sharing your pics "on this thing" whonose. :| whonose March 22nd, 2007, 04:00 PM Thanks Muse. Always something about the sky and heavens. And I didn't know it was going to be serviced apartments. I was always under the impression that it would be office space and hotel.
