Israel Railways asks for NIS 12b more and extension to 2013
The ministries are highly critical of the extensive budget overruns and say that these stem from improper planning.
Gal Nissim 28 Nov 06 15:14
"Globes" has learned that Israel Railways has asked for an additional NIS 12 billion and an extension of its development plans till 2013. The Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Transport will discuss on the matter this Sunday.
Of the NIS 12 billion, NIS 5.6 billion is for items which were not originally included in the plan, while the remainder is for completed or pending projects which have exceeded their budget.

The original development plan included an investment of NIS 20 billion for 2003-2008. In April 2006, the plan was extended to 2011 and an additional NIS 5.9 billion was budgeted to Israel Railways bringing the cost of the project to NIS 25.9 billion.

The ministries are highly critical of the extensive budget overruns by Israel Railways, and say that they stem from improper planning in the original plan.

Each fatal road casualty costs the economy NIS 4.7m
The cost of a serious injury is NIS 500,000-900,000.
Dalia Tal 28 Nov 06 12:19
Each road fatality costs the economy NIS 4.7 million, according to a report by the Transportation Planning Center, for the Green Light Association for the War on Road Accidents. The study showed that the cost of a serious injury is NIS 500,000-900,000, and a minor injury costs NIS 3,000-60,000.
The study shows that Kiryat Ono is the most dangerous city with regard to road safety, while Modiin Ilit is the safest. Haifa is the most dangerous of the larger cities.
The study also shows a continued improvement in road safety in the 97 towns surveyed, expressed mostly in the drop in road fatalities in absolute numbers and the number of fatalities per 100,000 residents. The number of fatalities per 100,000 residents in urban roads has dropped 35% in 1995-2005. The researchers believe that this improvement stems from the decline in the involvement of children in road accidents, improvements in infrastructure in urban roads, in passive protection of vehicle passengers, medical care and other areas.
