D-Mac October 2nd, 2002, 06:49 AM Shun Hing Square
Shenzhen, China
HEIGHT: 384m/1,260 feet
FLOORS: 69 floors
COMPLETION: 1996
ARCHITECT: K.Y. Cheung Design Associates
Shun Hing Square is the tallest steel building in China and the tallest building overall in Shenzhen. The tower is a thin slab with rounded corners clad in glass. Aluminum and glass covers the larger faces. Two turrets on the roof of the building conceal window-washing equipment and support the twin masts.
Shun Hing Square also provides offices, apartments, and a shopping arcade complex. The shopping arcade is a five-storey mall with four sets of escalators, five passenger lifts and two service lifts and a floor area ranging from 3450m2 to 4900m2. There is an observation floor called "Meridian View Centre" at the 69th floor.

Rainier Meadows October 4th, 2002, 07:34 AM I don't know why I love this tower so much.....Unique it is! 9.5/10........high marks for Double Spire!
Jasonhouse October 5th, 2002, 12:01 AM I like the double spire too, but the facade seems just a bit bland. Sort of needs some texture or something... It reminds me too much of those glassy corporate highrises in Houston for my taste.
I only give it an 8.5/10
DrumCorpsAlum October 7th, 2002, 06:46 AM Nice! 9/10. Looks dangerous. This building has fangs, like a double hypodermic needle.
RafflesCity October 9th, 2002, 09:04 PM 8/10
Yes it looks dangerous and menacing. But I dont like the side view..too thin. It can only look good in China somehow...

Ersh October 9th, 2002, 11:13 PM I don't know why I don't like this building as much... It's design seems better suited for a building that's 250m, IMHO. 7/10
SteelCity32 October 9th, 2002, 11:22 PM :eek2: no comment. 10/10
TYW October 10th, 2002, 06:38 AM 9 / 10

9
Procurator October 10th, 2002, 08:48 AM It's an ok tall.
The brown/pinkish facade loses points for me though. 7/10
Caledon1981 October 10th, 2002, 09:56 AM mmmmm . . 8/10
X-seed 4000 October 10th, 2002, 10:26 AM 8.5/10!
- I like the color scheme
- "Shiney"
- sleek
- I love its twin spires!
AG October 10th, 2002, 12:00 PM The spires give this building style, but looking at it from it's narrow sides doesn't look good.
8.5/10
Sunflower October 10th, 2002, 11:46 PM Nice...looks best at night.
8.5/10 :)

cgrassham October 15th, 2002, 04:16 PM I'm not sure if I like this building 6/10
oztraelian October 17th, 2002, 02:24 AM Fantastic. But however much the spires enhance the overall impact, it's more likely they've been added for height. btw 9/10.
Pablo October 17th, 2002, 01:16 PM shun hing square, don't like this building, but it look so clean;)
SUNNI October 17th, 2002, 02:25 PM it somehow looks good:D 9.5
Steven November 4th, 2002, 08:41 PM I like the look so I will give it a 9.5/10
Liz L December 2nd, 2002, 03:51 PM 7/10 - This tower reminds me, somehow, of a transistor radio; it has an interesting, sleek 50's look, especially with its curves and those "fins" visible on the last picture. I also like the blue on the facade. And the two antennas work well, because the curving setbacks fit them into the curves of the tower, emphasizing its symnetry.
It doesn't soar skyward as well as it might, however; it's a bit blocky broadside on, and could probably use some setbacks or indentations.
Finally, those contrasting strips along the facade are NOT the right color at all, and it would help the height if they were vertical.
Bobdreamz December 4th, 2002, 04:03 PM I like this building although the front facade is a bit blocky, the pic of it from the side is great...gives it a futuristic look from that angle...love the double spires as well....8.5/10
parody24 December 10th, 2002, 05:59 AM 9/10
I really love this sleek skyscraper. The tint of the glass, the twin
spires at the top, the overall design, the way it dominates the
Shenzen skyline. I love how it looks from the side, too.

Are we looking at the same building? I think this building is gorgeous, the double spires really add something
Wisma April 15th, 2003, 12:20 PM 6.5./10 too futureristic to me
airsickpenthousedweller April 16th, 2003, 02:11 AM The design makes it hard to imagine people voluntarily being inside of it.
TropicalSQ744 May 5th, 2003, 07:28 PM Very classy and elegant to look at! The sloping angles when viewed from the side are especially pleasing to the eye! :) Great shape overall :guns1: The glass dosen't fit the building that well I think.. Or maybe I'm just biased towards blue glass :baaa:
9/10
rj2uman May 19th, 2003, 09:37 PM 9/10 Great Sig. Bldg for this city.

New Jack City June 26th, 2003, 09:43 PM 5/10...I don't like it. The aqua color isn't working, it's too skinny and horribly wide, the two spires aren't that great, the only thing good about this building is the height and it's uniqueness.
james2390 August 7th, 2003, 11:46 PM i like it, its smooth and sleek looking, 9
7 World Trade August 22nd, 2003, 07:23 AM this thing sorta resemble ESB with 2 spires and postmodern facade treatment.

ShangHigh September 30th, 2003, 10:31 AM I hate the two spires (cheaters),
What a stupid remark. They don't even count it into the height. On my first visit to the building in 1997 I was told that it is 325m tall. The CTBUH decided to count the spires into the official height.

PHLguy January 30th, 2004, 02:29 AM the building doesnt look so bad but i HATE those spires that go 11 feet past my cities talles tower (empire state building) and it is STILL considered taller...Yea well ESB has a 1500' antenna...take that big green thing!:bleep:
(note...because of its severe cheatage past my fav tower i gave it a 3 or less...empire state building is CLEARLY taller)
same thing goes for CITIC plaza in guangzouh (<how do you spell it?)
Desven May 20th, 2004, 09:49 PM wow,i really like it!
9/10
Mark_from_Shenzhen June 1st, 2004, 01:40 AM actually i witnessed the whole course of the tower's construction in those years, it's cool looking from the top of another tower or from a larger distance. i wonder if anybody has some pics of my city made from the other side of the Shenzhen River...

the tower is 325m without the two spires, which is STILL taller than ES without the extra tower on its top, huh? :bash:
to your question: it's spelt " Guangzhou".

I kept changing my mind about this one, trying to be objective. For some subconscious reason I cannot figure out I really love it. But the rational part of my brain just "likes it a lot". Since I cant answer for the left part of my brain, I'll let the right side do the talking. Nice shape, clever use of the spires at the top. Like the color and the facade, shiny yet solid at the same time. Blends in well, except maybe the color is a little off. Distinctive building with great height. Really really nice, high marks from me!
Dubai-Lover August 27th, 2004, 01:41 AM something very special! so thin! great work! 8.5

Zuelas September 30th, 2004, 09:07 AM 6
I don't like it all that much- to me it looks kinda weak. It's only 69 floors but the 7th tallest in the world- seems to me that it should have more floors. But w/that said, I think this design should warrant a bldg only half its size. Looks more like a novelty and not a landmark tower. Kinda tacky.
natethetransitfreak September 30th, 2004, 09:20 AM i find it looks very typical mainland china somehow. the top is cool, but the sides are a bit bland

Pengui July 18th, 2005, 10:50 AM I can't believe I voted it only 8.5 ^^
It's even better in real. It's OMG so soaring, the color is so cool, the laser at night is a killer, it's very pedestrian friendly and the observation deck is really cool ! Although comparatively expensive. The view from the top is of course unbeatable. You have to change lift one time to go to the top, there's no direct lift. The inside looks very futuristic and as some kind of nice and cool glow. Really a top-quality tower.
I would re-rate it 9.5.

Love the lack of signposting on the lift interchange level - I had no idea what I was doing and just got in another lift and took it to the 69th floor... Meridian View Centre.
The view is exceptional and the tower is even more of a delight from the top.

Scruffy88 March 23rd, 2006, 07:01 AM im so into this tower. the smoothness, the sleekness, yet sharp at the top. great color. looking at it from the side its sooo thin and vertical. one of my absolute faves in asia

Moren-o March 23rd, 2006, 04:14 PM The colour looks already outdated and the facade cheap.
still nice

Assurbanipal March 23rd, 2006, 10:59 PM Oryginal! 8,5/10
USS Yankee March 27th, 2006, 04:21 AM A sleek and sexy design that accentuates height. However, glass facade coloring is poor slightly spoils the design by making the building a bit garrish. Otherwise, a building with a lot of merit.
9.0/10
Mosaic March 27th, 2006, 10:46 AM neat!!!!
Bisong March 27th, 2006, 09:20 PM it looks weird in some angles. the height s okay though. 6/10

Taller, Better April 23rd, 2006, 05:22 PM 8. It works for the city it is in, and is attractive enough.
I would not rate it in the top 100 in the world, though.

There's a fitting old Chinese saying for this building: "putting legs on the drawing of a snake."
That saying applies to probably 95% of China's new highrises.

I love the double spire. The sea green color isn't very attractive, and I hate how it kind of bulges up at the top between the spires. I love the double spires, but to make it more impressive they should leave more room at the top there. It looks like it's hunching its shoulders...

I don't like it.

Interesting design but given China's poor records in structural integrity of buildings, you never know how long this one will last. many bridges in China have collapsed in storms after just one or two years.
mysteek_1976 February 3rd, 2007, 12:12 AM wow imani:shocked: .................that's so apropos:hahaha:
i love this building....i like the glass.....and the rounded corners :righton:

Rizzato March 1st, 2007, 02:17 AM I mean, it looks nice I guess but it has no meaning to me. None at all. spires look awkward and makes it seem like they tried too hard for the futuristic look.
color is ugly, taipei 101-esque.
