SWEET! Apartments in that area will probably go up in price, because of all these new workers needing accomodation

Its great that they've built so much office and residential accommodation in the western half of Civic to bulk up the city, but they really need to start to consider a few more ammenities - like shops! Its a deceptively long walk from there across the other side of the city to the Canberra centre, especially iin the winter.

I'm pretty sure there will be cafes and stuff in near by places like the base of the metropolitan and the NewActon development because thats supposed to be a 'community arts' development
and there are also bars near by.

Are there any plans to extend (or create a new) City Walk to that area? The NE side gets its life from the large shopping mall (aptly named Canberra Centre of course) and from City Walk, which creates a useful pedestrian corridor from CIT and offices through several shopping areas up to the bus interchange, as well as a focus for gatherings and small events. A similar setup on the west would prevent it from becoming just an empty business park.

$50m Civic West offices for 800

Work has started on another office project in the booming Civic West precinct, this time a nine-storey building on Marcus Clarke Street.
Local developers the Katheklakis and Sarris families will spend $50million constructing the offices and cafe, in an area that is being rapidly transformed.

The latest building will adjoin at least four other new offices, including headquarters for the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission and departments of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, and Education Science and Training.

^^ Yes, rather unique for Canberra ie. laneway-ed urban canyons.

Thanks for the update pics abc 'n Chris.

Wow! It's funny because my first memories of Canberra were for some reason of giant buildings, heavy traffic, huge hills with pine forests etc... Maybe it was because I was an infant, but it was a shock to see how small it was the next time.

But now... well it's certainly going places! I love that kind of density. I hope we see a light rail system going through the city, that would be excellent!

Thanks everyone for the photos/updates etc.

Love that copper awning. I wonder if it's some symbolic reference to the scientific activites within.
