We zijn net terug van een trip rond de Öresund, de zeestraat tussen Zweden en Denemarken, het gebied tussen Kopenhagen, Malmö, Helsingborg en Helsingör.
Door de dikwijls hardnekkige bewolking zijn heel wat van onze foto's nogal duister uitgevallen. Ook de povere kwaliteit van onze toestelletjes en de amateurfotografen spelen natuurlijk een rol.
Komende weken/maanden toch een kleine selectie, te beginnen met wat mij betreft het mooiste gebouw van Kopenhagen, de nieuwe vleugel van de Koninklijke Bibliotheek ontworpen door de Deense architecten Schmidt, Hammer en Lassen.
De 'Zwarte diamant' werd gebouwd tegen de oude bibliotheek aan maar breekt radikaal met de neogotische stijl.
In 1993 won het architectenbureau hiermee de European Architecture Competition.

Mooie reportage van een eerder ondergewaardeerde stad

Er wordt daar mooi gebouwd langs die rivier, de oude stijl wordt op een aanvaardbare manier gecombineerd met moderne architectuur.

Tout à fait, je suis allé voir un ami qui travaille à Copenhague l'an dernier et j'ai été surpris de voir avec quelle réussite cette ville a préservé l'architecture ancienne et a inséré des batiments d'une architecture moderne dans la ville. Mais je crois que toutes les villes scandinaves en général ont réussi à faire cela.

Inderdaad, Antwerpen en Luik, die met de Maas en Schelde toch een droom van een stroom door hun stad hebben, kunnen er nog iets van leren.
Als ik tijd heb post ik morgen nog foto's van de schitterende opera en een nieuw stadstheater aan datzelfde water.

Stel u een dergelijk pareltje eens voor aan het kanaal in Brussel, tegenover Tour & Taxis, of op Antwerpen-Linkeroever...het zou eens iets anders zijn dan een rij banale appartementsgebouwen....

In augustus reisde ons gezinnetje naar Sjaelland (Zeeland), het meest oostelijke
en dichtst bevolkte eiland van Denemarken.
Wij begonnen onze trip in de culturele, politieke en zakelijke hoofdstad Kopenhagen.
De stad heeft zo'n 600.000 inwoners, maar het grootstedelijk gebied
de 'Hovedstadsomradet' telt meer dan anderhalf miljoen inwoners:

Kopenhagen lijkt mij niet meteen een stad waar ik zelf mijn vakantie zou doorbrengen. Ik mis een beetje de gezelligheid in de stad. De meeste gebouwen zijn zeer strak en weinig inspirerend vind ik. Het (misschien overdreven) kleurrijke havenwijkje vormt hierop natuurlijk een uitzondering.

Bedankt voor de rechtzetting Xelos. Ik ben zelf niet zo'n kenner, maar had achteraf wel gemerkt aan de motor dat het een ander type is.

Ik mis een beetje de gezelligheid in de stad. De meeste gebouwen zijn zeer strak en weinig inspirerend vind ik.

Klopt deels.
Het oude Kopenhagen is in het verleden meermaals door zware branden verwoest. Het stadsbeeld is daardoor overwegend 19de-eeuws. Je zult dus vruchteloos zoeken naar kleine steegje met middeleeuwse gebouwen, zoals je die bij ons rond elke Grote Markt vindt.
De Scandinavische architectuur is ook al heel wat soberder dan onze gotische en barokke juweeltjes.
Toch vond ik de stad erg aangenaam en gemoedelijk, én het blijft fietsstad nummer 1 in Europa! Ideaal voor een citytrip van enkele dagen.
Door het uitmuntende (maar dure) openbaar vervoer sta je ook in een oogwenk bij andere leuke stadjes in Sjaelland en zuid Zweden.

Kopenhagen deel II

Aan de Inderhavnen vind je wat mij betreft het mooiste gebouw van Kopenhagen,
de nieuwe vleugel van de Koninklijke Bibliotheek ontworpen door de Deense architecten Schmidt, Hammer en Lassen.
De 'Zwarte diamant' werd gebouwd tegen de oude bibliotheek aan maar breekt radikaal met de neogotische stijl.
het gebouw telt 9 verdiepingen en herbergt zo'n 21 miljoen boekdelen!

Net als de Belgen hebben deze gezelligaards bij de Denen een collectieve allergie voor hoogbouw veroorzaakt.
Recente wolkenkrabbers zijn dan ook eerder zeldzaam.

Mooie stad! Scandinavische steden lijken erg op Hollandse en (Noord-)Duitse steden. Kopenhagen vind ik in ieder geval mooier dan Amsterdam maar iets minder dan Hamburg.

Ik had nog een laatste serie van mijn koorreis vorig jaar liggen, en wel van de Deense hoofdstad.
In het stadscentrum heb ik amper foto’s getrokken door reden ivm groepsactiviteiten. Echter lag onze jeugdherberg in het zuiden van het Amager Fælled, een groot natuurgebied tussen het stadscentrum en Ørestad. Toen we een paar uurtjes vrije tijd hadden, ben ik in Ørestad gaan rondwandelen, het tweede deel zijn uitzichten vanop een heuvel in het Amager Fælled.

Nadat ik Ørestad bezocht had, kwamen we in een museum terecht waar een boek te koop was ‘New Architecture in Copenhagen X 2009/2010’. De naam spreekt voor zich, en in de achterflap zit een mooi stadsplan waar de locaties van de gebouwen aangeduid zijn. Ik wist dus niet op voorhand wat waar ligt en wat interessant is, maar in ieder geval zal ik bij de gebouwen die in dat boek staan de uitleg hier plaatsen.

Ørestad
“Ørestad is, until now, the biggest overall city development project in Copenhagen. A considerable area of the green Amager Fælled was set aside for town development, partly because the population, is growing, and partly because the city was about to start building the Metro. The profits from the sale of the lots in Ørestad were used to finance parts of the extensive metro building. Roughly speaking 3 new districts have come into existence: Ørestad North, City and South.

The closest neighbour to the old Copenhagen is Ørestad North, created with the ambition of giving the city a new centre for culture, media and communication technology. Placing Copenhagen University here is a natural choice. The IT University, several residence halls for students and the new DR-Byen have already been constructed, leaving Ørestad North as the most built-up part of Ørestad. The university and the residences have already brought special life to the still very young district. All in all 2000 inhabitants, between 5000 and 10000 employees and 20000 students are expected to take over Ørestad North.

The developing of Ørestad City has been much more of an effort. The starting point here was virtually a bare field. The huge shopping centre Field’s makes for lively shopping, but does not offer its surroundings anything but huge closed facades. There are on the other hand plenty of architectural experiments with VM Husene and VM Bjerget topping the list. The district is laid out around the enormous Øcity Park. It is a very long process for a city to take shape. Behind Field’s Daniel Libeskind has drawn the plan for yet another area full of curved arches and quirky shapes. Carrying it out, however, may not be possible for a long time to come, and there are no current building projects.

Ørestad South, which truly is a bare field, is furthest away. The plan was ready. The intention was to construct a fairly densely built-up town in close contact with nature around it and a number of unifying and extremely innovative urban spaces. However, the economic crisis set in and for the time being there is only a solitary residential complex far away surrounded by a lot of open space. While waiting for better times the whole area is being sowed with grass. A temporary layout sees to it that there is plenty of space for roller-skating, skateboarding, wild play and other physical activities.

Øcity Bypark
“One of the biggest challenges posed by the development of the capital was to bring life to the new areas. Øcity Bypark belongs on a list of places which prove that these things take time. It was laid out as a large communal park for the many new homes bordering on the enormous area. Yet, despite wide expanses, paths and multiple benches, it did not attract the life that unfolded behind the windows. If the park was to be used as a social venue for residents, it therefore had to be redesigned.

Brainstorming and collaboration between architects and residents resulted in a park with 8 garden, park and landscape ‘islands’, each appealing to different users. The 8 islands form small, clearly demarcated gardens fitted out for diverse activities and experiences for playful outdoor people of all ages - from a beach volley court to a kissing bench. A communications agency created signs with alternative, cheerful orders under the motto “here you are free to…”. Time will tell if this sweeping transformation of the park boosts the number of visitors.

Copenhagen Towers
“In the centre of Ørestad City the first of Copenhagen Towers’ 4 phases has gone up. A central atrium open to the public joins a 25-storeyed hotel with a 20-storeyed office tower with the biggest incorporated solar cell system in Denmark. The aim here has been to create a working environment with a high service level. The employees are offered access to everything from a dentist to shopping brought to the car. Thus serviced, the future work force, although counting 5000 people, is destined to make a minimal impression on the immediate surroundings.

“The 288 housing units for young people in Ørestad were actually built as 72 relatively spacious basic flats, a layout that will make it fairly easy to transform the clusters into family flats. The complex is located on the canal right behind the gigantic shopping mall Fields in the new Ørestad City. The building stands out clearly with its multicoloured panels, a feature that makes the facade change character as one passes along the waterfront. The design was intended to create a youthful contrast to the adjacent buildings.

Ik ging even het winkelcentrum Fields in. Het was best groot, maar gigantisch nu ook weer niet. Het was er doods omdat de winkels net gesloten waren.

Ferring
“Boasting a 7-storeyed black tower and a location in a traffic junction the international pharmaceutical concern Ferring has become a symbol and a landmark in Ørestad City. From Malmö the tower can be seen as a black line in the air, and when you stand close and look up along the building’s glass facade covered in black slats, you feel almost dizzy. In Copenhagen 20 storeys are still a lot.

Looking at it from the outside the slats cause subtle colour changes in the facade when you walk past Ferring. The flooring in the building’s foyer is practically identical to that of the open space outside and is only delimited by large windows. The building consists of 2 parts. Ferring’s laboratories are placed in a 3-storey building, closed round 2 green garden spaces. The laboratories face west, away from the busy crowds round the Metro and Field’s. The transparent tower of glass and black aluminium slats contains administration offices.

VM-Husene
“As the name suggests, VM Husene (VM Buildings) are shaped like the letters V and M when viewed from the air. The buildings represent the architects’ vision of how to provide optimal light and views for the largest number of residents within the confines of a limited space and at relatively low costs. The 4- to 12-storey buildings are constructed of concrete, steel and extensive glass facades. The V Building has 40 and the M Building 36 different types of flats, most extending over several levels.

Most people first notice the pointed, triangular balconies jutting out from the facades of the V Building like sharp spikes. The south-facing balconies were designed not to impede light to the flats below. To keep construction costs down and to provide the most light possible for every unit, there are no partition walls in the flats, some of which have floor to ceiling heights of 5 metres. Instead residents can erect partitions to suit their individual needs. The V Building is raised on 5 metre high columns to let light into the northern courtyard.

Bjerget
“ Suburbs and typical areas with single-family houses clearly served as a source of inspiration for Bjerget (the Mountain), standing immediately next to the elevated Metro tracks in Ørestad City. The award-winning residential complex was built as a number of individual plots stacked on top of one another, cascading down a mountain slope where the roof of one flat is the garden of the one above. A gigantic parking area in striking colours inside the Mountain gives residents direct access to their homes, while people in the neighbourhood avoid a parking lot.

The building was made for modern people who wish to combine the splendours of the suburban backyard with the social intensity of urban density. The suburban style is further highlighted by the building’s position on the site, with all terraces facing towards the old single-family housing district on Western Amager. Thus the view from the Mountain is of back gardens. On the other side of the Mountain, the style is not suburban, but a futuristic urban scene featuring the elevated Metro tracks and new, contemporary residential properties in Ørestad City.

Metropolis
""Futuristic imagination!" This is what the sales literature says about Metropolis, a 40-metre tall residential building. And its round shapes, radiant light-blue colour and organic look make the description pretty apt. The building is surrounded by water on 3 sides on Sluseholmen's outermost peninsula, which was expanded by about 2000 square metres of landfill.

Metropolis commands a distinctive, yet solitary position opposite the rows of new housing blocks and the snug little Valby Boat club lining the waterfront on Sluseholmen. A long gravelled path leads to this curious edifice and continues all the way around the outside along the edge of the water. With its basement parking, the building has a strong aesthetic character, though still somewhat enclosed within itself. An image that may change, though, when a new public harbour lido is established at its foot in a few years.

^^ Mooie en interessante fotoreeks. De architectuur in die nieuwe stadswijken kan ik best wel appreciëren. Die Ferring vind ik ook knap. Foto 29 is daarvan een zeer geslaagde foto :okay:

Aha, in die jeugdherberg heb ik ook geslapen :) En ik heb ook die wijk bezocht, vooral die 2 gebouwen van PLOT architecten. Ik moet eigenlijk eens verder doen met de foto's van mijn duitsland-denemarken reis. Ik was daar trouwens gestopt nét voor de foto's van Kopenhagen, waarvan je nu al een tipje van de sluier hebt gelicht :)

Mmm, er staan heel wat gebouwen bij die ik qua vormgeving niet meer kan vinden dan moderne adaptaties van commiebloks. Nu ziet alles er nog nieuw uit, maar over 50 jaar zal dat er even grijs en grauw uitzien als voorgenoemden.

Denemarken lijkt het concept van Le Corbusier nog eens over te doen: woonblokken in het groen. De realiteit is dat het niet werkt.
