jchernin December 5th, 2006, 11:07 PM for a trump building, the tower actually looks really good imo. im still on the fence about the gold glass tho, looks a bit tacky.
thats sick tho that hes building 2 towers. when is the 2nd slated for construction?
Superfish December 6th, 2006, 01:56 AM Don't know the exact date, but in January they say it'll play a big role in the new Apprentice season. Guessing the winner will get to mange the tower's construction or something. How's that for advertising?
Needless to say it'll sell out in days and construction won't be far behind.
Trump tower taken today.
Time: Near noon.
Looking at eastern face. Notice the Nordstroms across the street from the tower being illuminated with Trump's rays of gold.

Hollie Maea December 6th, 2006, 03:43 AM im still on the fence about the gold glass tho, looks a bit tacky.
I would say so, but how can anything look tacky in Las Vegas? If it were in a somber city it would be an incredible eyesore, but it should blend in nice in the gaudy skyline of LV.
Superfish December 6th, 2006, 03:51 AM The Mandalay Bay resort, with two towers, all 3 towers of the MGM condo complex and the Mirage resort are gold as well. It's nothing new or unusual here.
Still I do think Trump has taken gold to the max. Ironically fitting for someone like him.
mdiederi December 6th, 2006, 09:29 AM !!FATAL CONSTRUCTION ACCIDENT!!
Just heard on the tv news that construction work was stopped tuesday at around 11am on the Trump tower after a worker fell five floors down an elevator shaft due to equipment failure.

Superfish December 6th, 2006, 09:46 AM Deaths are never a good thing. OSHA will probably be investigating it and construction is likely to be halted for a while. I hope it's just bad luck as opposed to them skipping safety procedures or rushing the construction.
Deaths arn't unheard of however. One or two workers have been killed before building other megaresorts such as Bellagio back then.
Brendan December 6th, 2006, 11:18 AM This is one of my favorite buildings! I just love the gold windows, it looks so classy!
The best facade in the world.
ZZ-II December 6th, 2006, 09:00 PM Las Vegas needs a lot more skyscrapers i think
soup or man December 6th, 2006, 11:19 PM Trump LV is one of the most acttractive buildings in the world. Even in a city as tacky as Vegas (though it's changing into a more livable city), Trump LV stands out. A very hard thing to do espically seeing as how Vegas has alot of gold towers already.
Escoto_Dubai2008 December 7th, 2006, 12:12 AM Nice building, Las Vegasis always in a continues changes that make the city better everyday, I've never been there but I think it would wonderful to be there.
Superfish December 7th, 2006, 03:52 AM Find the Tower
Can you see it? :)
Many have wondered why he would stick his tower all the way behind the Frontier hotel's property, no one would see it right? Wrong. Being tall as it will be, it will peek out right over the Treasure Island hotel, and is perfectly aligned with the Strip such that his tower will appear to be looming directly north of nearly half of the Strip.

Absolut355 December 9th, 2006, 02:26 AM If the facade of this buildling is as shiny as I think it is (and how it looks in those sweet pics) wouldn't it almost be a driving hazard to those on the Strip? I mean, if the sun hits it just right, that could blind some drivers if it reflects into their eyes. Maybe the orientation of the tower would prevent this from happening though. Just a weird thought I had.
Superfish December 9th, 2006, 02:33 AM Haha you would think so but then if it is the Wynn is guilty too, I've seen that thing reflect the rays of the sunset pretty strongly. But Trump's gold windows will probably be 10x more blinding then Wynn's reddish copper.
Don't get me started on the Luxor and Mandalay Bay those things reflect as well big time. I guess people will just have to deal with it.
Taylorhoge December 9th, 2006, 03:14 AM When the Luxors windows are clean theyre cool but theyre always dusty when I come to Vegas

As I heard someone refer to it, the "Golden Popsicle" is an impressive golden monument that shows the Donald's made a presence for himself in vegas.
Surprisingly, my observations near and far tells me the tower seem a lot taller the farther you are from it. From up close it doesn't seem that tall at all, although it's still huge. Maybe the tower's width causes this.

Superfish April 9th, 2007, 01:06 AM Trump Las Vegas tower II will be shown on trump's Apprentice show tonight. It should look like tower one but may have changes in room count inside.
Superfish April 10th, 2007, 05:20 AM Trump Tower II is now revealed to have to first ever Trump branded restaurant. The 2nd tower, while identical, will also not be positioned directly east of the first one but to the northeast, to preserve views to the west. Similar to how the old WTC towers were positioned.
TOWER PITCH GOES PRIME TIME
Second tower of Trump International takes reservations day after 'The Apprentice' airs
By HOWARD STUTZ
REVIEW-JOURNAL
The first tower of Trump International, above, was fully reserved by the time the project broke ground in July 2005. The second tower will begin taking reservations today, a day after a prime-time plug.
As sales were rapidly closing on the 1,282 units in the $500 million Trump International Hotel & Tower last summer, Jack Christie began thinking about the project's second phase.
Christie, vice president of sales and marketing for Trump International, was exploring ideas and a timeline for accepting reservations to purchase units in the development's planned second tower when he discussed the matter with his boss, New York billionaire Donald Trump.
"'Maybe I can help,'" Christie recalled Trump saying.
Four days later, a Trump jet landed in Las Vegas and off stepped the six remaining candidates vying for a $250,000 a year job with the developer as part of the NBC reality television series "The Apprentice," which was filming its sixth season in Los Angeles.
Along with "The Apprentice" contestants came more than three dozen cameramen, lighting and sound technicians, and other television production personnel who spent a day capturing the candidates interacting with Christie and New Frontier owner Phil Ruffin at the under-construction Trump International.
The episode aired Sunday night and Trump sales agents began accepting reservations for one- and two-bedroom units in the new tower today.
"Not a bad way to announce the next phase," Christie said of the hourlong episode that centered around the Trump International. "The Apprentice" candidates were tasked with creating a marketing program for the second tower. Christie and Ruffin, who gave up seven acres in the back of the 38-acre New Frontier site for the Trump International, were to help select the winner.
Ruffin, who struck a joint venture deal with Trump on the first tower, wasn't sure a second condo-hotel tower was a good idea, until he saw how quickly sales took place. After that, it didn't take much convincing to partner up the second land parcel, he said.
"The Trump International has been great for the property," said Ruffin, who wants to redevelop the New Frontier into a $2 billion Swiss-themed resort. "When the interest was so strong on the first tower, it made sense to do the second tower."
The episode marked the second time Trump has used "The Apprentice" to promote his Las Vegas venture. In the second season finale, winner Kelly Perdew was offered a job at the Trump International, but instead chose a position in Trump's New York corporate headquarters.
Trump, in an interview from New York, said the second tower "will be almost identical to the first tower," which is expected to top off at 64 floors sometime this month. The new tower will also contain 1,282 units.
He said escalating construction costs have raised the price of the second tower to $625 million, giving the project a total value of more than $1.1 billion.
"Las Vegas has been very good to me, and we had such good response with the first tower that I expect to have the same response with the second tower," Trump said. "To me, it's the brand. The Trump name is the hottest thing, and that's why all my projects are doing well."
Christie said the first tower was fully reserved by the time Trump International broke ground in July 2005. Since that time, reservations have been converted to sales contracts. As of last month, roughly 20 units were still available.
He said reservations on the second tower require a deposit of $10,000 per unit. The overall sales prices were still being determined, Christie said.
"We have a priority list of about 200 to 300 names that we feel confident will pay the deposit," Christie said.
Trump said he expected to break ground on the second tower sometime in 2008 after construction finishes on the first tower. He said the project is four months ahead of its building schedule.
Since Trump International began construction, other high-rise condominium projects have been announced and faltered. Others, such as the four residential offerings at MGM Mirage's $7 billion Project CityCenter, are on track.
Christie, who has toured the CityCenter sales pavilion, said competition is good for the Trump International.
"Every time something doesn't proceed, people call me to get our opinion," Christie said. "Other projects are good for us because that means the market is successful."

When the nearby Time Warner Center was built and falsely stated that they were located on One Central Park (it is officially 10 Columbus Circle), Trump put a huge banner on his tower, located in front of the Time Warner Center with big letters saying
"Your views aren’t so great, are they?"

mdiederi May 10th, 2007, 12:25 AM Here's a request (http://dsnet.co.clark.nv.us/dsnetapps/agendaweb/Data/P0212199.htm) for a strange floor numbering system for the Trump towers.
The standard method for numbering residential towers in the Las Vegas Valley is that the floor number corresponds to the level of the floor within the building. The units on that floor are then numbered corresponding to the floor in which they are located. For example, Floor 3 would be the 3rd level of the building and the units on that level would be numbered 301, 302, 303, etc. With this application, the applicant is requesting to deviate from the standard numbering system to allow an alternative floor/unit numbering system for the Trump Towers project. According to the applicant, during the design process, it was determined that the final height of the tower would be 640 feet high. Because of this, the top level of the building was assigned Floor 64. The numbering then proceeded down the building, ending with Floor 16 as the first level with condominium units. Below this level are 8 floors containing offices, recreation areas, parking and the lobby. If the building were numbered in the standard way, the first level of condominium units would be Floor 9 and the highest floor would be Floor 57.
It also says that the building will be operated as a hotel with a front desk and that the application process for Tower II has already started.
Al Capone May 10th, 2007, 05:37 AM so how do you want them to count, 1 floor lobby, 6 floors parking, 8 floor office, ect...come on dude, they threw up 64 floors, why not count them all?
I have heard that in some trump tower they skipped like 10 floors on the elevator panel to make the higher floors higher numbers.... but i dont think that is happening here.
mdiederi May 15th, 2007, 07:03 PM they threw up 64 floors, why not count them all?

Gendo May 16th, 2007, 01:36 AM Was this an archtiectural design the Trump had sitting in a file cabinet since the 1980s?
Its very tacky, but it should fit into the tacky skyline of Las Vegas just fine.
mdiederi May 16th, 2007, 07:44 PM The Frontier just sold today (http://www.lvrj.com/news/7530232.html).. At 1.2 billion dollars that comes to 33 million dollars per acre. The Frontier parcel contains the land that Trump is built on, but that land was not included in the sale and will continue to be a joint development between Ruffin and Trump. The rest of the Frontier land will become a 5 billion dollar mixed use development anchored by a Plaza Hotel patterned after the Plaza Hotel in New York.
"Donald has already heard about the deal, and he was thrilled to death," Ruffin said. "This is going to be a really good deal for the towers, and it will help them out tremendously."
Superfish May 16th, 2007, 09:37 PM It's ironic that Donald Trump himself bought the Plaza in New York for $407.5 million in 1988. And sold it at a loss for $325 million in 1995.
He stated:
I haven't purchased a building, I have purchased a masterpiece — the Mona Lisa. For the first time in my life, I have knowingly made a deal that was not economic — for I can never justify the price I paid, no matter how successful the Plaza becomes.
Now a new Plaza is coming to Vegas and being built next to his Trump Towers.
VikkyD May 17th, 2007, 02:56 AM Its donald trump, so are they using REAL gold on the facade of the building?
there is a building in Toronto with a REAL gold facade, and I quite like it.
Okan May 17th, 2007, 03:45 AM wow i like the golden windows of the trump towers
Superfish May 17th, 2007, 03:48 AM Its donald trump, so are they using REAL gold on the facade of the building?

Yeah there's real 24k gold mixed in the glass.
VikkyD May 17th, 2007, 06:58 AM Superb!! BRING on the GOLD!
Alweron May 17th, 2007, 06:47 PM Absolutely great news. A Golden tower, possibly even two. Twin towers always look much better. I'm so gonna stay there if i visit Las Vegas some day. That gold is so Las Vegas -style (and Mr. Trump especially)
TroyBoy May 19th, 2007, 03:51 AM Its a condo.
mdiederi May 19th, 2007, 07:56 AM It's also a hotel.

erbse June 13th, 2007, 07:46 PM This thing looks like crap to me
Superfish June 27th, 2007, 09:13 PM Glass in now placed all the way up to the last two floors of the building. Still no sign of the white crown yet. They have slowed down quite a bit since the topping of the tower.
Alweron June 29th, 2007, 11:57 AM Mr. Trump loves gold and that's the reason why he wanted it to be gold colored. I really hope he will have the other golden Trump II tower built next to that one. Two looks much better. And gold isn't tacky in Vegas, it fits there! :)
mdiederi June 29th, 2007, 04:53 PM If the white crown around the top goes only to the top of the frame, then it won't be as tall as in the renderings with the glass as high as it is. So I'm guessing the white part will extend taller than the frame.
newyorkrunaway1 June 30th, 2007, 06:56 PM i had the privelage to go t vegas and see all the construction first hand. it is amazing! although i hate the way trump towers facade looks, the building demensions, i love! why does trump make things so gaudy?! this is not meant to be rude, because i love vegas, but it fits right in. everything is overdone in vages, but thats what makes it vegas. its extravagant and glamorous!
Skyman July 3rd, 2007, 07:03 AM Golden Trump sounds good
Superfish July 3rd, 2007, 06:38 PM This is a really interesting article about Trump's involvement level in his tower.
Trump's personal touch pays off in Las Vegas
By Brian Wargo / Staff Writer
If anyone had any doubts about Donald Trump being a hands-on guy when it comes to any of his projects, talk with Richard Rizzo.
The vice chairman of Perini Building Co., which is building the Trump International Tower & Hotel in Las Vegas, said he was surprised at Trump's request to participate in the process when Perini seeks bids from its subcontractors.
Normally, a developer relies on Perini to solicit bids and get the lowest prices possible for its building projects and make recommendations.
In an unusual request, Trump wanted to review every bid that went out and have the ability to contact the subcontractor and negotiate an even better price. Rizzo said he felt a little uncomfortable about the request since that's his company's job, but he ultimately agreed to it as long as any contact was kept professional.
Trump went through every bid package and contacted every subcontractor on the job.
"He picks up the phone and calls the lower bidder and says, 'This is Donald Trump. Can you do better? I am about to award you this contract, but I am not sure you have given me your best shot here.' Son-of-a-gun, if he doesn't get another 1, 2, 3 or 4 percent out of it,' " Rizzo said.
Rizzo said he apologized to Trump, saying he felt embarrassed that Trump was able to do that and his firm wasn't.
"He said, 'Don't be embarrassed at all. It's just my name,' " Rizzo said. "He said, 'My name will carry the day, and I want to use it to my advantage.' I would have never believed that you could pick up the phone and call somebody and ask them to cut your price by whatever and get them to do it after they had already been beaten over the head a few times by us."
Rizzo said some subcontractors said no to Trump's request. Someone cut their price as much as 5 percent, he said. Trump's phone calls cut about 2.5 percent off the price, he said. That's worth nearly $9 million on $350 million in bids to subcontractors, Rizzo said.
"It was certainly worth his effort. I guess if you got a call from Donald Trump out-of-the-blue (it would have the same effect). Egos are big in this business. There are a lot of Type A people and they love to be the biggest and the best. They can tell people they talked with Donald Trump. I guess they are willing to pay the price for that, I guess," Rizzo said laughing. "I would have never believed it that he could do it, but there are a lot of people enamored with who he is and the image he has created for himself."
Rizzo also pointed out how Trump picked out the marble and certain finishes for his project.
"He gets involved in a lot of details I would have never thought he would have," Rizzo said. "It is his name he puts on it. It is his trademark, and he wants to make sure there is a level of quality that reflects the level of his name."
Trump hasn't announced any other projects in Las Vegas beyond his second tower, but Rizzo said he wouldn't be surprised if Trump remains active in the market.
"He has been so successful," Rizzo said. "His name is one that attracts investors."

jaja3000jaja July 27th, 2007, 12:09 AM Awesome!!! I didn't know about the second tower, I knew about the Trump tower in las vegas years ago but not two!!
Chris85 July 27th, 2007, 01:47 AM Nice updates! Even though Trump isn't one of my favorite towers, it'll add to the skyline. I was driving past it today and it looked like the white cladding is all installed except for one side, and there's already a "T" on one side too.
Sentient Seas July 27th, 2007, 03:32 AM Mr. Trump loves gold and that's the reason why he wanted it to be gold colored. I really hope he will have the other golden Trump II tower built next to that one. Two looks much better. And gold isn't tacky in Vegas, it fits there! :)
Trump is the typical rich person... always trying to show off their money, it almost makes me sick. You don't ruin a perfectly good tower by making it gold to show off the size of your wallet.
Superfish July 27th, 2007, 04:46 AM The entire T R U M P sign on the south facing crown has been completed. It's nothing extraordinary, but does the job. I reckon the letters in the renderings were made a bit bigger you know, just because.

You know how many billionaires act, many rich people are sickening.
But I have to admit I quite like the color of the building.

romanamerican July 29th, 2007, 11:23 PM don't like these two at all. trump has done a better job in chicago.
Superfish August 1st, 2007, 06:08 AM After the seeing the completed south side of Trump with the name for a few days now, I must say, it looks damn nice.
Still don't like the base but oh well not like I'm gonna see that anyway looking from over a mile away.
Wonder how long till he turns the letters on so I can see it at night.
Don't worry I havn't turned into a die hard Trump worshiper.... yet :)
I'll even tell his secret, the tower is within direct walking distance of a "love boutique" store. I'll let you figure out what kind of stuff this store sells and if future Trump residents will utilize it often...

romanamerican April 2nd, 2008, 07:27 AM Has tower 2 started yet?
I have read that the second tower won't be built any time shortly because of the slowing down of the economy. So give the second tower at least a couple of months (the recession should be a max of 18 months).
FM 2258 April 2nd, 2008, 08:57 AM This is perfect for Las Vegas. I think it would tacky any place else but Las Vegas is America's playground.
