Kanto October 11th, 2011, 04:42 PM When looking at the site from this view, all I see is a perfect location for another 1WTC in the space of the old Deutsche Bank building. The two memorial pools flanked perfectly by new twins at each outer corner.

yankee fan for life October 11th, 2011, 05:46 PM Just heard they have put up some new steel.
Kurtin October 11th, 2011, 06:15 PM Yeah, new steel can be seen on the PA cam. West side. 86thfloor now, bloody hell its going full steam past month.

Kanto October 11th, 2011, 07:26 PM Yeah, new steel can be seen on the PA cam. West side. 86thfloor now, bloody hell its going full steam past month.
Not 86th, it's the 88th floor we see here rising :banana2: Just so folks don't have to go to the PA page to see the webcam, here it is

It is the 85th and 86th floors were seeing. 1WTC is now ~1,070 feet high to the column splice.
Kanto October 11th, 2011, 08:48 PM ^^ Oh my, I just checked the list you gave me and you are right. I was wrong  I'm sorry folks. It really is at floor 86
Sid Vicious October 11th, 2011, 08:51 PM 326m, 86th floor
WTCNewYork October 11th, 2011, 08:59 PM One more jump till the office floors are done. :D Kanto are you going to make a diagram? I like that "chopped off" effect in those diagrams.
germantower October 11th, 2011, 09:00 PM From the angle in the pic Kanto has posted in post 27508, it doesn't look as a supertall at all. Or is it just me? (i know it's massive irl)
Spongebob-Lowpants October 11th, 2011, 09:10 PM @ Kanto: Where did u take the first pic from man? Incredible shot!
KenfromJersey October 11th, 2011, 09:33 PM New steel up today.

yankee fan for life October 11th, 2011, 09:39 PM At 1070 feet 1 wtc is now the third tallest building in new York 1 wtc now has the tallest occupied floor in New York, and is the 7th tallest building in the country 46 tallest building in the world.
WTCNewYork October 11th, 2011, 09:56 PM From the looks of Ken's pic, the steel went up before core scaffolding. Wonder why?
Sid Vicious October 11th, 2011, 10:09 PM strange; maybe a bet of the workers.
DinoVabec October 11th, 2011, 10:29 PM We've seen it before..Nothing new..Scaffolding will rise right after..
DinoVabec October 11th, 2011, 11:16 PM No, it's not 2nd tallest..
Kanto October 11th, 2011, 11:19 PM No, it's not 2nd tallest..
Btw, since new steel has risen it is again time for my famous roof height diagrams. In them we can see that 1WTC is currently the second tallest in NYC and the 6th tallest in the United States.
But I wrote that my diagrams are roof height so what's the problem? :dunno:
DinoVabec October 11th, 2011, 11:21 PM My bad..Didn't saw it..
WTCNewYork October 11th, 2011, 11:21 PM 1 WTC is 2nd tallest in NYC by roof height, by official height it is the 3rd tallest; behind BofA Tower and ESB.
DinoVabec October 11th, 2011, 11:24 PM 1 WTC is 2nd tallest in NYC by roof height, by official height it is the 3rd tallest; behind BofA Tower and ESB.
That's right..This post is true, direct and not confusing..Well done..
Kanto October 11th, 2011, 11:31 PM My bad..Didn't saw it..
No, it's my bad, I should have made those sentences more clear. I'll try to formulate them better
Edit, just aded a bold roof height sign into my diagram post, I hope it's clearer now.

yankee fan for life October 11th, 2011, 11:35 PM 2nd tallest by roof kanto not by pinnacle height, i know you have issues when it comes to spires but please stop giving the wrong information.
Kanto October 11th, 2011, 11:52 PM ^^ Will this be okay?
Roof height used and meant in all data below:
1WTC is currently the second tallest in NYC and 6th tallest in the US:
http://i51.tinypic.com/332ymqb.jpg
http://i55.tinypic.com/4vle2q.jpg
Here I have my new roof height construction diagram:
http://i52.tinypic.com/299ylt.jpg
1WTC = 327 meters or 1074 feet out of 418 meters or 1371 feet
4WTC = Approximately 208 meters or 682 feet out of 298 meters or 977 feet
1 57 = Approximately 133 meters or 436 feet out of 306 meters or 1005 feet
(Note: I used the 418 meter figure for 1WTC when measured from the lowest above ground entrance and I used the 298 meter figure for 4WTC.)
yankee fan for life October 12th, 2011, 12:04 AM ^^ OK that's better
dres0ne October 12th, 2011, 01:04 AM Sweet pictures Kanto! Looks like it's about 3/4 up, at least to the roof. I could be wrong... WTC4 will be about this height once complete. The whole site will dominate Lower Manhattan's skyline!

dfiler October 12th, 2011, 03:10 AM 1 WTC is 2nd tallest in NYC by roof height, by official height it is the 3rd tallest; behind BofA Tower and ESB.
We should avoid vague and loaded terms like "official height". Explicit terms like tip, roof, highest floor, or architectural height are preferable.
Incidentally, the reason why ctbuh no longer provides roof height rankings is because it became too difficult to come up with indisputable numbers for buildings without simple flat roofs. However this doesn't mean the metric is worthless. Rather it means that it was too controversial and imprecise metric to attempt a definitive list.

germantower October 12th, 2011, 02:31 PM ^^ Mind the interior works, the six months which the spire will take, the base cladding, and the surrounding area of the tower, which has to be finished before an opening, and the rest of the cladding.

yankee fan for life October 12th, 2011, 06:35 PM I am just wondering at what pace will construction go after the last office floor is done will they continued to do four floors a month, for instance the 91 floor will be 30 feet and the 92 floor will be 18.7 feet that's 48.7 feet in just two weeks and to me that rate seems unlikely.
Kanto October 12th, 2011, 06:37 PM ^^ Well, I'm no engineering expert but I'd say there will be some minor delays :dunno:
germantower October 12th, 2011, 06:52 PM I am just wondering at what pace will construction go after the last office floor is done will they continued to do four floors a month, for instance the 91 floor will be 30 feet and the 92 floor will be 18.7 feet that's 48.7 feet in just two weeks and to me that rate seems unlikely.
There will be some delays, when they reconfigure the floors above the last office floor. After that, i astimate, if they use one stealbeam for the whole length of the floor's height, they won't need much more time to build a floor. For example floor 91, with the given 30 feet figure, the time they need to place a single column is the same they need for a shorter one, maybe slightly more. So the ~50feet in 2 weeks are highly likely. I hope my answer is understandable enough.
Dallas star October 12th, 2011, 07:09 PM Loving it, I wonder how it would look if they chose to use the same facade as on the Trump Tower in Chicago.
germantower October 12th, 2011, 07:14 PM ^^ Not as good as the choosen one. The actual one gives it a simple, clean and iconic look, and enhances the towers shape. While a trumplike facade would add to much details (vertical and horizontal lines), and distract from the geometry the tower has.
Otie October 12th, 2011, 07:27 PM There will be some delays, when they reconfigure the floors above the last office floor. Good answer, although there are some points to clear it up: although these columns will be lighter compared to the ones at the 20th floor, they will be larger and heavier. If one crane can't lift a single column, then both cranes will work together, taking longer to lift all the materials to the top. Also you need to consider that winter is comming, this tower is getting taller and winds are being a major problem. I'd say the pace of 1 floor per week will change to 1 floor per 2 weeks. :okay:

Yes yesterday was sunny in NY but with gale-force winds. The wind really did a number on the flag. At least they've removed it; hope the can replace it with something similar (and better secured, next time!):bash:

mindgoessnap October 17th, 2011, 06:55 PM So, the big flag came down, which is fine.
My question is, what the heck is all that black covered scaffolding doing on the outside of the building? It's been there for months, but I haven't a clue as to what it is or why they need it there.

It's covering the mechanical floors of the building. I assume it was done for aesthetic reasons; mostly to cover the vents for those mechanical floors.
Eventually that will be covered up; with what is anyone's guess at this point since they decided that the original plan of using prismatic glass wasn't technically feasible.

It's probably in preparation for the cladding they're going to put on the base this winter. :)

^The radome will be assembled in 20 foot sections (some of these will be actually higher). This enclosure will have a folded-plate assembly of 2'6" thick fiberglass-and-foam sandwich panels.

Yes. There were two staircases that took you up to the roof from the 110th floor.
This is the South Tower, but if you look at the east and west faces of the building you can see the staircases (encased in concrete). The North Tower looked nearly the same, except its roof was not open to the public.

Well I'm pretty sure it wasn't on anyone's list during the past decade after the Twins were gone. There was nothing special about the LM skyline whatsoever when it had a huge gap in it.
Rockmont October 19th, 2011, 02:43 AM Well there was nothing wrong with the skyline itself, it was what was missing that was the major insult to it. Now that, that is being fixed, it'll have its rightful place, back where it belongs.
CrazyDave October 19th, 2011, 03:35 AM Yes it's looking good, though I really do wish it was designed to be 2001 feet tall. As a remembrance to the year the World Trade Towers were taken from us. :)

I don't think we need the building to be a certain height for us to remember that day...
oilmanjr October 19th, 2011, 04:07 AM ^^ Agreed. I am pretty sure the building was completely designed without a specific pinnacle height in mind. It was only after they designed the tower to look as good as it could look, that they decided to change the pinnacle from 1765 to 1776. This is not accurate but it is just my guess. Basically, the building wasn't designed around a specific pinnacle height.

I didn't know this about the south tower. I know we are straying a bit from topic, but I wonder how many people, if any, met their fate up there while hoping for a helicopter rescue. Are those the top of the stairways that led all the way to ground level?

Igor Antunov October 19th, 2011, 02:02 PM NY skyline is huge but somewhat dated. Very 30's-esque.
I think Hong Kong, Shanghai and perhaps chongqing in another 10 years are going to destroy it.

Right, because the magnitude of glass skyscrapers in Midtown and Downtown scream "1930's". Other countries might have height on us, but nothing will ever come close to the architectural diversity and DENSITY this city has worked toward over the last 100 years. Take a walk.

It's like London or Paris, where a lot of the neighbourhoods look dated. Because they are. Cities grow and thrive during periods of rapid growth and dominance. For London and Paris these periods were during the 19th century, and for New York it was the 20th. As a monument to the 20th century New York will always be fantastic.

Those old, classic towers are what makes New York...New York. It wouldn't be the same without them. The same could be said for most of the US cities east of the Mississippi.

Scrapernab2 October 20th, 2011, 02:02 PM What is amazing about NYC is the old and new. I love that little church (St. Pauls) next to the Millenium Hilton. Some of the tombstones are so old, the names and dates are worn off. Then when you see an older skyscraper, the details are AMAZING. I like the glass, but love the old stuff.

Ok, question: By topping out do you mean the roof will have been reached, or the spire will have reached max-height?
If you meant the second, then I ask, when will the tower top off as far as the main building is concerned? i.e. everything aside from the spire

The roof will top out in early 2012 (as stated above), and it will take at least six months after that to finish the spire. That's assuming they don't delay the start of the spire for the completion of cladding, which they very well could do.

Hi Betty.
Not sure what you mean by 'used'.
Just as you show the public your images on Flickr, when they are posted here more people get to view them. That's all that happens here, people view the images and discuss various aspects of the construction of the building in question. No one is making any money by posting here.
Also bear in mind that even if you don't allow your images to be downloaded, if someone wants it they can always take a screenshot and get it that way. If you are really concerned you should think about a putting a watermark on your images.
Think of the forum as a way to get more exposure. :)

Dominance October 21st, 2011, 06:03 PM Hello guys i'll be visiting nyc in february 2012, do you think this one will be totally cladded by then?
Well In my opinion I dought that in 4 months from now Tower 1 WTC will be fully cladded. I mean there up to floor 61st to 62 nd on the cladding and the building is going to be 104 floors to the roof so thats 40 floors of claddding to be done in 4 months Plus the base cladding. So the answer in my opinion is No But the GOOD news is the cladding will be definatly higher then Tower 7 and visable in the NYC skyline.

Well if your going kanto style aka no spire, then yes as of right now Tower 1 WTC is 2nd tallest in NYC but if you count in the spire then its third tallest.
With out spire as of right now-- tallest= Empire State Building, 2nd tallest Tower 1 WTC
With spire as of right now-- Tallest Empire State Building, 2nd tallest is Bank of America Tower, 3rd is Tower 1 WTC.

1 WTC to Top Out in Early 2012
Nearly 1,000 workers are now at work building what will soon be New York’s tallest skyscraper, 1 World Trade Center (WTC). The tower, under construction since late 2008, now stands 86 stories tall, on its way to topping out at 104 stories of steel in the first quarter of 2012.
Across the site, 4 WTC steel has reached the 44th floor, also set to top out in early 2012 at 64 stories. Already its sub-grade construction is more than 90 percent complete, with utilities and concrete pours steadily progressing on upper stories.
The construction update was presented to Community Board 1’s WTC committee by the Port Authority and Silverstein Properties this week. The Port Authority’s Assistant Director of WTC Construction Quentin Brathwaite reported several more rebuilding milestones, including that the Port’s work on the western concourse, also called the “east-west connector,” is expected to be complete by the end of this year. It then will be turned over to World Financial Center owner Brookfield Properties for finishing work that will tie into the new entry house at the Winter Garden.
At the WTC’s south end, Brathwaite said that excavation in the south bathtub for Vehicular Security Center (VSC) construction is proceeding at an accelerated pace at the 130 Liberty Street site. On the site’s west side, a new crane was recently installed to lift in oversized steel members that will form the substructure.
Running through the center of the WTC’s 16 acres, the Port Authority is rebuilding Greenwich Street. Brathwaite told CB1 that the intersection of Liberty and Greenwich Street will open first, though that date is still some time away. But the opening of Greenwich Street will proceed one segment at a time from south to north, up to Vesey Street.
The Port Authority also continues its foundation work for the Transportation Hub, which includes formation of the oculus substructure. It will mark the Hub above street level, topping the multi-level main hall, whose total square footage is roughly the equivalent of three football fields.
