1374 is such an ugly number. :(
Ah well, physically it'll still be 1776 feet tall. I can't wait until it tops out.

Cool ^^ iloveclassicrock7 May 23rd, 2012, 04:07 AM WoooWW!! Cool ^^ Incredible photo Tommy Boy May 23rd, 2012, 04:15 AM Why do you care so much anyways? Did you even live in NYC to see them everyday because it looks like you're in Sweden.....those who want them back so bad are the ones who had a close connection with them. I live just 25 miles out from the city where the tall buildings can be seen on clear days, I would have loved to see two towers protruding from the hills, but I was too young to even take them for granted. Now I am just used to a newer, 21 century building rising into the clouds, but there is still a sense of sadness and past reflecting in its facade. I guess even if you live nowhere near New York theres still some connection that everyone feels I have / had a very close contact with them daily when my father worked there between 1987-1998, after 1998 they moved the company to California. I have a lot of great memories from there. I learned to ride a bicycle without training wheels beneath the World Trade Center Plaza. My mom has a whole bunch of photos of me and dad. When dad supporting me behind the bike while I'm cycling around the sphire, many many laps. I have many memories from the WTC area. This timelaps I was their several times a week down at the WTC area So I do miss my twins very very much and I will never be satisfied by what is being built there now. I was there on the WTC site in the New Year, 5 months ago and I sighed and even cried a little bit when I remembered back and saw myself as a young boy cycling around the sphire with dad running behind and mom sitting on the bench in front of the sphire. I want them back I will always have that feeling and I am not alone. So now you all know why I am a Twin Tower Fan. These brothers is/where the guardians of New York as my father told me after the first attack in february 1993. I have always loved that expression. I think many New Yorkers and Americans probably thinked that to? I respect what is built there but I do not agree that this should be built there. Respect it yes accept it no, thats the difference. SORRY EVERYBODY THIS IS WAY OFF TOPIC, and the moderator or I will probably take this away, I wanted to explain WHY patrick989 May 23rd, 2012, 04:39 AM Thanks Kanto for taking the time to post those pictures:) It's really not that difficult to post pictures from flickr, many more of us also post pictures... And Tommy Boy...those are touching memories, but still, it's been almost 11 years since the tragedy. It really is about time to move on. Just because you have fond memories there, it doesn't mean you (or others like you) need to be crusading through this thread with your disapproval of the new WTC and what you think should be there instead. With all due respect, it's irrelevant. What's being built is final, and that's it. I hope at the end the whole 1776ft issue is resolved... germantower May 23rd, 2012, 06:12 PM ^^ With or w/o the spire redesign, this building would never be 1776 feet tall, since they measure now from the lowest entrance point. So a fight over the symbolic height is completely nonsense at all. Its going to be either 1374 feet tall or close to 1800 afaik. Chapelo May 23rd, 2012, 06:44 PM The meaning is that it is taller than the old towers... Same height, NOT taller. ZZ-II May 23rd, 2012, 06:46 PM Same height, NOT taller. 419m would mean 1WTC will be 2m taller than the old north tower ( 417m ). It's bad enough that the "sacred grounds" will be waterfalls, reminding visitors that NYC was too afraid to rebuild what was lost. I would like to see the complex energized with the level of energy found in Times Square. Making it a destination would accomplish that. germantower May 23rd, 2012, 11:12 PM Now the holes in the first row of cladding make sense. theyīre there that they can clad the podium. fish May 24th, 2012, 12:01 AM I think they did a great job on the memorial, personally. Chapelo May 25th, 2012, 07:08 AM It's so obvious to me that it should be moved back to the site. Surely they could find a spot somewhere for it. Isn't the original location somewhere within the memorial site? Yes, the original location would put it smack dab in the middle of the memorial, approximately where the museum is. Apparently they didn't want to incorporate it into the memorial because they "don't want 9/11 artifacts cluttering up the memorial plaza." The (proposed) site for The Sphere is south of the memorial, on the same plot of land where 130 Liberty Street and the church used to stand. (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=774442&page=5) and there are a lot of buildings looking similar to 1WTC, because seriously it is a pretty simple design and a simple design makes a lot of things look similar. also the northeast asia trade tower (currently tallest building in south korea) looks similar to 1WTC. http://archrecord.construction.com/features/new_songdo_city/2_northeast_asia_trade_tower.jpg Jay May 28th, 2012, 11:36 PM The CTBUH sets their standard, but they don't set the standard. This is a building with a roof height of 1374, and a pinnacle of 1782 feet. Those are facts, the CTBUH official height is a subjective measurement Ok I think we don't have mutual understanding here, whatever you want to call the height 1375/1776 is up to you, I'm just saying the thread title should be changed because spires count for any other building except this one apparently, look at the Moscow tower, it's 1660 feet to a spire, I was merely saying the title should be changed because the media speculation was likely false. It's just a personal opinion but I don't think that if a so called spire looks like an overgrown flagpole on a flat roof that it should not count in the final height. I do have a perfect example of a building with a beautifully designed spire in which the roof actually is the spire and that's the Chrysler Building. The entire top of the building tapers gracefully to a single point which is clearly part of the design and should be included in the height. I love the design of the 1WTC but it's not even close to being 1776 in height even with the original spire design as far as I'm concerned. Sticks on top of flat roofs don't deserve to be included in the height of buildings. deepblue01 May 29th, 2012, 05:08 PM yep, the NE Trade Tower is already completed, and was designed before 1WTC If it was designed before the 1WTC, then 1WTC looks like NE Trade Tower? oli83 May 29th, 2012, 05:15 PM by RichardSchneider (http://www.flickr.com/photos/richardleeschneider/) on flickr http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7089/7277218196_44175bebbf_h.jpg マイルズ May 29th, 2012, 05:43 PM ^^ wespje1990 May 29th, 2012, 07:35 PM since when is the height 419 meters? i thougt this tower would become something like 514meters...? マイルズ May 29th, 2012, 07:50 PM will they put up perimeter columns today?? spectre000 May 29th, 2012, 07:52 PM will they put up perimeter columns today?? It is the addition of that mast that would elevate an otherwise 1,368-foot skyscraper into a 1,776-foot structure whose defining measurement was meant to express American spirit and resolve in the face of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat, the private body that serves as a worldwide arbiter of building heights, will ultimately count or discount the mast in its height determination for 1 World Trade Center based on whether it is considered a functional antenna or a nonfunctional spire..." "...“This definitely raises questions,” Kevin Brass, the public affairs manager for the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat, said in a statement Wednesday. “Our criteria are very specific. We include spires and not antennas. If this is an antenna, it won’t be part of the height measurement. The cladding was an integral part of the design and made the extension part of the permanent look and feel of the building"..." MontanaGuy May 30th, 2012, 05:48 PM I wish we'd get a good closeup of the roof. Those angled beams must be very close to merging. As far as all of the business with the spire is concerned I would imagine that all of the parts to the round base as well as the antenna have already been constructed so I think we're going to be stuck with it. The new renders without the enclosure make the whole thing look utilitarian and detracts from the design of the building so I would have much preferred not making 1WTC look like a giant cell phone tower and just having a flat roof but I'm sure it's too late for any changes at this point. In any case, the building itself is beautiful. Torch May 30th, 2012, 11:36 PM I hope they build the antenna with the cladding, not necessarily because of height, but mainly because of the appearance of the tower.
