1WTC looks right on the money, but I think it's time to add the memorial over the path station.

if you go on bing map and do a bird eye view you can see the core and core steel with the north memorial pool half done in steel

The area under excavation, between Liberty and Cedar Streets, had not been dug out for the original trade center. The vessel, presumably dating from the mid- to late 1700s, was evidently undisturbed more than 200 years. ..

Considering the age of United States they must be very happy when they find something... and RealVooDoo, in cities like Rome you must do that way. I read that excavating near the Colosseum to make the subway archeologists found a sculpture of a horse, the only one of the Colosseum found. You must live with that, and be proud.

The first city plenty of skyscrapers was the classic Rome, although nobody knows that. It was the New York of the first century.

Edit: I have listened in a spanish radio a spanish foreign correspondent that lives in New York, speaking about this ship and saying something about Gangs of New York and archeology in Rome... I swear is truth

Manhattan, I believe, is smaller in square miles than the city of Baltimore. It may be long north to south, but it is quite narrow.

The discovery of the boat is similar to something that happened here when the Gallery at Harborplace was built. A pier, dating to the late 1600's, was unearthed at where is now 2 blocks inland.

Manhattan is the second smallest borough I believe. It looks small on those pictures because they're downtown pics, and that is, along with the northern tip of the island, the smallest of width. Walking in Manhattan can be tiring, cause while it's not wide, it's quite a long island.

And great progress. I can't wait for this to give impact on the downtown area. I do agree that the downtown looks relatively "flat" and "small" without WTC, but I'm sure this tower will more than make up for it

typical new yorker, getting competitive over square milage now? :)

The natural history of NYC amazes me, how it went from wilderness to the huge skyline of today in much less than half a centurary. makes you wonder how it will look in another 500 years? the show "life after people" gets the imagination running.

This site is moving along nicely now, I can't wait to see it when i'm there next Summer. I imagine 1WTC is much larger IRL than what it looks in some of these images. Will probably be 800+ feet tall and half clad by next June too!

That new crane is coming. New updates provided by the port authority.
http://www.panynj.gov/wtcprogress/pdf/June2010-WTC-Progress-Newsletter.pdf
World Trade Center Progress
June 2010
One WTC Update
Built With Their Hands

• The innovative “cocoon” system, a safety feature
that protects the workers and public at
ground level from materials that may accidentally
fall from construction floors, envelopes the
building on all four sides.

• More than 6,000 pieces of superstructure steel
have been installed to date. Concrete work has
significantly accelerated.• The number of workers laboring daily to build
the tower, already in the hundreds, is increasing
as more trades are mobilized.

• Preparation is under way for material hoists to
the top of the tower. Large elevators will be installed
on the east and west sides of the building;
some will carry workers to the top, while others
will be reserved for materials and equipment.

• Fuel cells will be delivered to the site in early
summer. Fuel cells are essentially boxes that take
liquid natural gas and, through a chemical reaction,
release electricity and heat (for hot water)
that will be used in the finished building.

• A new climbing crawler crane is scheduled to
arrive over the summer.

LOL, do a Google search for "climbing crawler crane ". 2 hits ! The PA website and SSP.

OK, 3 hits, this forum is the third.

Someone at the PA has no idea what they are typing about. I'm pretty sure they are referring to an external climbing crane, something like the two tower cranes but designed to climb the outside of the structure.

I have a connection, one of the head engineers of the complex. Next time I'm in New York, I'll see if he can get me onsite, maybe even in the tower itself. I'll definitely make sure to bring my camera if that happens.

In the meantime, they've added quite a bit of steel since I was last here. The tower's really starting to pick up the pace. I wouldn't be surprised if they were only a few floors behind their timeline for the year when 2011 starts (if that makes sense).

Maybe in your opinion, since ESB will no longer carry the title, however i think the spire would be too tall for 1971, 195 feet, would throw off the visual balance of the building a bit.

- A

kingsc

You do understand its being built to replace the twin towers not ESB. And the height is perfect where it is, that my opinion. If they build a new ESB then it can be 1931 feet tall.

WoW it looks great; has anyone posted a plan? Those two squares what will they be? Oh those are the original foundations. They'll be pools nice.
I was at the memorial the year before last we couldn't get that close and the police kept everyone moving. That was the year the banks defaulted. I remember being on Wall st the day Lehmans Bros collapsed. We went up the Empire state where I spotted the presidential cavalcade going past below I pointed the tiny row of cop cars out and everyone got vertigo: except me. Strange to see all those cop cars like small toys all the way down there: just didn't seem real somehow. I look forward to visiting again and perhaps go up the new WTC. NY's buildings were awe inspiring.

Actually, the street level platform over the PATH tunnel has to be as strong as possible, and it isn't complete yet, they simply completed it enough to allow things around the site to speed up a bit.

Can I have link please? Looks like this is the only webcam where we can see current floor u/c...Other cams are fuc*** up a little bit...:)

RGZ is always down, HD Earthcam is on the Memorial, Live Earthcam is more on the 7WTC than on the 1WTC, and on WTCProgress cam we can see only east side of the tower...HD Earthcam was in that direction for a few minutes then it went back to the old position

Top of the base is 20th floor...That's because the base is as tall as 20 story building...Then it's simple..21st, 22nd, 23rd...Till 32nd..Thats where they're now...Workin' on 31st and 32nd floor...:)

The base is only as tall as a 20 story building if it has unfeasibly low height floors.

Way back on the thread someone quoted the actual floor height (for the regular office floors) as 13ft 4in, which seeing as the base is abot 200ft high gives... nothing like 20. I think 10 is probably much closer as it includes mech floors which will be taller.

20 is just a number someone in marketing thought would be good to start the office floors at. If this had gone up core-first then we'd be able to count doorways to get a real floor count, but as it is the PA marketing floor number is all we've got.

Here's an amazing video of the new WTC. It's amazing how green lower Manhattan is becoming. West Street as seen in the video and below will be a new tree and flower-lined boulevard, as will West Street.

Yeah, I thought that too - but it's not the case according to the PA.

To quote from their site: http://www.panynj.gov/wtcprogress/q-a-response-lynda-tollner2.html

The floor to ceiling height on floors 1 through 7 are larger than a typical building due to the large amount of heavy mechanical equipment being installed on these floors. Even though there are seven visible floors, when dividing the building's height (approximately 200 feet) by a typical floor height (10 feet), you get the equivalent of 20 floors. Moving forward, the ceiling heights will resemble a much more typical office building.

So they have used 200ft and a "typical" floor height of 10ft, but then the office floors will be "much more typical" at 13ft or so high. :dunno:

Guys, this has been covered an absurd number of times over the course of this thread. The powers that be have decided the base is 20 stories tall, that's all there is to it. This has been confirmed by people who know what they're talking about.

So give it a rest already, right? I mean, who cares about the floor count that much (except of course for the diagram makers and people like Culwulla)?

Do you think the memorial is any good? I think it has to be one of the more well designed & thought out memorials in recent times. We have a 9/11 memorial in my town for the people lost who lived in bucks county, pa. It's fairly simple and straightforward, but very well thought out and poignant. Water is involved with 2 identical fountains in a reflecting pool, and there are several pieces of the structural steel. I feel this "where it happened" memorial is like the large version of a lot of the smaller ones around the country.

1 wtc is a fitting modern tribute to the original wtc, even if the design and look of the building is radically different. You have the joy of those lives represented in the structures reaching for the sky, and the sorrow of those lives lost represented in the water falling into the basins.

Having lost friends that day, and being in a relationship with a woman who witnessed it across the river in nj, someone who's teacher opted out of sending her class to a college fair that morning at the wtc, seeing this building make so much progress after such a dry spell of any visible developments is very meaningful and i share in your pain, even though i did not see it unfold in person. I miss those buildings too, a lot, but progress is being made, and that is a good thing for me, and for others wanting that gaping wound healed.

is this true?

The spire will be an intense beam of light that will be lit at night and will likely be visible over a thousand feet (305 m) into the air above the tower. New York City is a suitable place to set such a light pointing towards the sky without complaints of light pollution by astronomers, as the night sky in locations near New York City is already far too bright for serious astronomical observers.

From the HK999 post above

"Cable-net facades on all four sides of the buildings, again designed by Schlaich Bergermann, measure 60 feet (18 m) high and range in width from 30 feet (9 m) on the east and west sides (for access to the restaurant and observation deck, respectively) to 50 feet (15 m) on the north side and 70 feet (21 m) on the south for primary tenant access, activate the building at street level."

Was this originally written in another language? I can't clearly figure out what it will look like based on this description. Cable-net facades?

^^ Welcome in the real world kid. If you do nothing you will end up with much bigger problems and years of years dogs will be suffering. However I'm for a painless death of course. What are the alternatives for this problem. Streetdogs are not exactly the cute puppy type of dogs and causes diseases and other problems. You could sterilize them all but that cost a lot of money. Money that can probably spent better on humans that are in problems.

That said your are sure in the wrong place and it will be deleted hopefully. Because trust me there are a lot more problems in the world that are far, far worse than this. And if everyone is just posting those problems here it will get a mess.

Edit: I just saw your posting this in more threads? Damn come on.... Put it in you signature or something. People from all over the world come here and they all have problems in their country..

(Width from corner to corner, not diagonal)
