It used to be the third largest after Lubumbashi in southeast. Now it's the 4th largest.

Your welcome.

Actualy it is mostly navigable, From Kinshasa to Kisangani and from Kisangani to Kindu.

And from Kindu to Manono. by smaller baots.

The only unavigable area is between Kinshasa-Matadi.

Here is the Congo River navigation map.

Does the government plan to build national paved all-weather highway network linking the whole country or at least the 4 biggest cities?
If so this would be a major accomplishment by the current government and would really spread development.

BUTEMBO21
June 3rd, 2009, 02:01 AM
Yesy there will be one from Lubulmbashi -Kasenga-Moba-Kalemie-Bukavu-Goma-Butembo--Beni to Kisangani. one single paved highway, wich is already U/C.

Then another paved one from Lubumbashi-Likasi-Kolwezi-Kmaina-Mbuji-Mayi-Kananga-Kinshasa-Matadi-to Moanda/Banana. All one single Paved highway already U/C.

Two cities (Moanda/Banana.) that are about to recieve a 4 billion USD deep water port throu a German investment Company or Soy Kerean one. they are all fighting for the port.

Then there would be anothe one from Mbuji-Mayi to Bukavu.

The Chinese should also build an East- west rialroad line. and modernize theLubumbashi-Matadi Railline. as well as the North-South ( Lubumbashi-Kindu-Kinsangani). Rail line.

145 clinics/ Health centers + 31 Hospitals. two big Universities ( Congo laready have 200 private Universities) Modernize major Airports, Lubumbashi, Mbuji-Mayi, Kisangani, Bukavu, Kinshasa, Matadi,Mbandaka, Goma Kindu. 3000 sOcial Housing.

11 000 km of fiber optic cable, already 150 km has been done so far. and 3 billionUSD worth of mining sector upgrade. as well as Electric 2 Electric DAMS.
A Brtitish Company want the aproval form the govenrment so it can start a 3 billion dollars Aluminum Plant in Western Congo State of Bas-Congo. Polish, Germans, Americas, Koreans, Canadians are after this Aluminum thing.

I hope you know much big DRC is.

That 's 9 Billion Dallars and Chinese will take 100 milion Tons of Copper and 600,000 tons of Cobalt in 25 years.

DRC has way more that just Copper and Cobalt. we haven even started to exploit most of the resources yet.

this is the 31 hospitals/145 clinics/ 2universities/ and two paved all weither highways.

Bienvenu à Madiland Beach/ Welcome to Madiland Beach

http://img683.imageshack.us/img683/3520/madilandbeach01.jpg

It used to be a lively city. but the wars really screwed it up. and then
the infrastructures decayed and the city was completely isolated from the rest of the county

... Kisangani is a deserted city. first its can only reached by Air and River ( very slow). despite the route from Kisangani-Beni (which is not Asphalted ) isn't enough, The National road from Goma-Bukavu to Kisangani must be re-built if this city is to find it life back. SOTEXKI (Textile) must start cotton farming to bring it back in business since the Bralima is already back.

It could be disheartening and a welcome challenge to anyone wanting to change the situation across the country. For in in-completion lie endless possibilities and highly attractive opportunities. We are informed that the improvements in India (unlike China) are mainly due to the private sectors contribution, and the failure of India’s government to smoothly run the XIX Commonwealth Games in 2010 Delhi bares testament to this assessment.

In the matter of The Inga Dam Projects, an organised expatriate group (very often we speak of governments failure to organise) can collect small annual monetary contributions that would accumulate overtime (perhaps for 10-18 year period) until the project is its final planning stages. How you get people to comply; we remind them of the current power shortages, and convince them that such failures will increase as the environment is already out of balance with its ability to support the exploding population. Stressing (a very personal point of) electricity use - in the efficient utilization of resources to supply food, shelter, health care, sewage disposal, transportation, communication and education. How will your family cope? You may mention the small matter of dividends.

We contribute to make certain that the Inga Project Dam Projects go live or face extremely high electricity costs; which only the very few can manage. I would encourage us all to continue working on controlling our destiny (or someone else surely will). In despair lie seemingly endless opportunities, in fulfilment were do these opportunities lie?

Thanks for the Kisangani pictures sir!

Anyone looking at this city through business eyes can see a lot of potential to provide basic services.

Over the years, one thing I have noticed is the regular boat journeys between Kisangani-Kinshasa, would love to know what these people trade in (apart from the diamonds, etc).

Kisangani has interesting business potentials across various sectors, as is the case in other cities across RDC. It will be interesting to view the Kisangani and Bunia competitiveness. All Congolese provinces of foreign boundaries seem to have their important cities located close to the neighbouring borders?

Can Bunia follow suit, or will another more important city emerge from Province Orientale?

Kisangani has interesting business potentials across various sectors, as is the case in other cities across RDC. It will be interesting to view the Kisangani and Bunia competitiveness. All Congolese provinces of foreign boundaries seem to have their important cities located close to the neighbouring borders?

Can Bunia follow suit, or will another more important city emerge from Province Orientale?

Orientale important Cities and Towns (Exception of Isiro and Bunia)

[/CENTER]
Carte de la Province Orientale Cities

Apart from Bas Zaire and Kin, this is another area that interests me a lot.

The Kisangani city center needs to start from scratch, looks like virgin land. In a stable country, I think you will see a lot of business people taking chances there.

Bunia? Another area very rich in minerals, unfortunately they have oil there as well so that's the resource curse x10 with DRC's no functional government leverage across the nation. The future will tell but the Ugandans never really left that area. It is another part of the country that is getting looted, despite some UN presence there, as a matter of fact, some UN sectors are involved in the actual looting themselves.

In an ideal world, being so close to two countries (Ugandan and SS) should equal great trade. If we were a little more at an advanced stage then serving South Sudan would have been great business.

Kisangani's major advantage is the well established transport links with the two biggest cities in the country, Kinshasa and Lum via the Congo river and railways links. It will be a good competition also keep in mind that Kinshasa represents "country sized market", for a lack of a better word.

I wonder why CHANIC, the ship building company whose shipyard is on the navigable side of the Congo River, does not build trawlers. The population is increasing, so is the demand in fish consumption. Small-scale traditional fishing methods cannot keep up with demand; still, nobody seems to be interested in exploiting this potentially lucrative business opportunity.

The lack of business creativity on the part of the Congolese is one of the factors that are holding the country back. It’s a disgrace that we are importing even such fresh-vegetables as tomato, garlic and onion from China, whereas we have arguably the largest unexploited agricultural land on earth…
Instead of blaming it all on the government, the business community must wake up and start working. Millions of acres lie fallow; fishes are dying of “old age” in our lakes and rivers while people are starving: only in DRC…

A specialist in fishing research and stuff, told me, according to his research and calculations, that the Tanganyika could provide fish for the whole of Congo. As in, we wouodn't need another source of fish. Now, how many lakes and rivers do we have. Amazing!

^^ Certainly, I am in agreement to some extent with your opinion. There can be no better inspiring drive than for a residence to view the surroundings she/he currently finds themselves; then compares this to the past as well as currently comparable growing cities. An elected representative’s effectiveness may be more easily judged; with clear tangible evidence.

DRC needs to Develop all it's major cities. I was on the Angolan thread and seen how developed their cites are, leaving ours far beyond. For a country like ours, we should be leading the way. I read an article about joka's plan to make Congo a regional power by 2020 and a world power by 2060. I think its possible with a strong and steady rising economy and a strong army and air force. That is if he even act on it and not jus say staff and they would need to make it a project that would continue even past the end of his term.

Surely there is a lot business opportunity for Kisangani and the province. Just by improving climat d'affaires such as the time it takes to register a business to 24 hours will bring a lot of investments. The solution is to make it easier to have more commerce ( services, Ag processing, cheap credit etcc..) We must get away from the francophile mindset that wealth is only created with natural ressources. Copy the Anglophones who put more emphasis on commerce & services. Natural ressources should only be a bonus

Wow, nice pictures, Yupes. The duty of all central Congolese governments (current and future) is to bring Kisangani back its former glory. This city is geo-strategically critical for the renaissance of the country as a continental major power.

The city is very strategic and has a lot of potential. If enough money and will power was put into the city, it could become a major city again.

By simply making it easy to do business will go a long way. Sadly the pace of economic reforms by the leaders is hurting the country. The city offers so much opportunity that with Capital flow ( mainly from private sources) can lift this city out of misery. Our leaders continue to hold on to the francophile mindset that government ought to do everything Centrally. It's a French thing I guess.

Congo cannot be organized in that way! It needs to give its provinces more autonomy and decentralize as well as encourage investments. Hopefully the new governor can be more independant minded and rely from within more

Very difficult to find images of this particular city. It's the 2nd largest city in the DRC I gather.

Kisangani has a population of only 300,000 people. That makes it like the 6th largest in the DRC. However it is rare to come across such a collection of great pictures of this city in one place or at all. Thank you very much for sharing these pictures, it really shows us what it is like in a place that we rarely get to see in Central Africa.
