View Full Version : New Freeway Proposal

I've been working for about an hour now on determining a path for a new freeway that should be built from the 60 to the 22 in East LA County. There is a significant need for a freeway there to relieve traffic from the 5 and 57. If anyone knows a way for me to show the path I came up with, could you please show me?

I've tried to reduce eminent domain issues to a minimum by building putting the path through rivers and rail, but there are a still a significant number of properties to purchase for this plan.

I have the plan all in my head and written on a piece of paper, but I need a way to visually show it. I'm gonna try to do it, but it'll be a big image.

i have already been working on a google maps baised massive image of the 195os proposed highways and damiens mass transit map. i was just doing it for the hell of it but i will look at your idea aswell

so i just drew a path over the plan for the huntington beach freeway with some alterations to try to save some houses were i could find them and i can tell you right away that there is no way in hell this would ever been done with the normal way of building highways that is done here. thousands of homes would be buldozed and many many factories/warehouses/stores would be demolished.

the only way i could think of this happening would be a raised freeway or tunnel. the raised freeway could possible run down knott or valley view by the 22 and run north untill the 91/5. this interchange would need a major renovation to hook up with out turning fullerton into an east la counterpart.

run north more to colima rd and fallow that... and somehow get over the hill. perhaps like the 1o1 by universal with cahuenga. and getting from there to the 60 is gona kill alot of houses no matter what the approch. it could possibly fallow hacienda blvd and connect but i dont know how that would work with freeway turning radiuses. then the intechange has to be built...

Freeways..... have you fellows not learned anything here at SSC?

^^ I think it would need to be a tunnel. With a tunnel you save the houses and such and tunnels are just plain cooler than a cement slab running through a neighborhood.

^^ Tunnels in Earthquake country is more complicated than you think. Besides that's the reason why new transit is coming on board. As much needed to alleviate congestion on our local freeways. I for one is sick and tired of silly tourist (bas drivers) window shopping and contributing to gridlock. We need change and fast.....

If they keep building freeways in LA metro, Angelenos will never give up their cars!!! We want an efficient world class mass transit system. Build rail not freeways.

The problem with a freeway in that area is that theyre aren't any passes through those foothills to fit a freeway. The 57 does well because it follows the pass through brea canyon. Theres a big steep hill between hacienda heights and la habra that is fully developed on both sides.

The other thing is that people who live in those neighborhoods of la mirada, la habra and west fullerton chose to live there. the 91 and 57 and especially the 5 freeways have been there for quite a long time. If these people wanted to be closer to a freeway, theres plenty of those around that they could have lived closer to.

The nearly $7 billion it will take to build the 710 tunnel because of treating SoPas with kid gloves while bulldozing down everyone else's homes could fund the Red Line to the ocean, finish the Expo Line, build a downtown connector and quite possibly build the entire Harbor Transitway into a rail line.

This freeway would have a corridor for light rail in it, and would be used greatly if the green line was extended to reach this freeway. We all know how much we need a line to Orange County. It might get Anaheim to build a system of its own.

LA County should fix up its portion of the 5 fwy and add a light rail line in the middle. The OC portion of the 5 is awesome, but when you hit LA county line its bottleneck nightmare.

Fern~Fern*
December 18th, 2006, 07:26 AM
I read somewhere that LA County will start to expand the portion of the 5 between the 605 and Orange County around 2010. So those commuters from OC driving alone to work In LA have to put up with the bottleneck until 2010 or take the train. Thankfully I don't live in the OC*

Funny, this was not mentioned in the MTA's Long Term Projects. Only carpools and the 710 tunnel is mentioned. Hopefully no more freeways will be added to the LTP anytime soon. I say 'let them eat CO2'.

Tunnels Please. I'm sick of traditional freeways, they fill up as quick as you build them. There is capacity and that capacity is underneath the EXISTING freeways and interstates. No eminent domain! No major environmental damage! Just an upgraded infrastructure project. Who cares if the Pasadena tunnel cost 7 billion, build it man and put a fat and necessary toll system to help pay for the thing. Easy.

Nobody cares about earthquakes, tell Tokyo you can't build tunnels in a dense earthquake prone city. Build it to the highest quality and with the best security and emergency features.

Enough Already with the status quo traditional outlook of freeways. If you absolutely have to build it then its time to go underground.

Not quite. Freeways and roads compete with mass transit for funding, ESPECIALLY capital investment. Every dollar spent BY the state for the Pasadena tunnel is a dollar less available for a Wilshire subway. This is one of a thousand reasons to oppose freeway expansion.

totally agree......we need to stop and realize where our priorities are in transportation funding and building freeways everywhere doesnt seem to be helping...so of course we need to stop all new freeway projects and only spend money on mass transit with the occasional carpool lane or upgrade etc....this seems obvious to me:dunno:

I concur that the time is right to pay for rails before roads. My point is that I would prefer to see tunnels as opposed to normal roads.

LOL, you treat people like shit and you'll get teated like shit in return. You expect to be treated like a god when you come here for the sole purpose of insulting? What do you fuckin expect, kid? You obviously don't come here to learn about Los Angeles, you're just here to dispense your ignorance. Others come here to actually learn, and we treat them with respect, because they've shown us respect. If that's what they teach you out there in Muenster Cheese, Canada, then you must really come from a fucked-up place.

Go back to your World of Warcraft. We don't need your short log.
