Heading west brings us into the hood known as New Lots. It goes from Linden Blvd (NY 27) to New Lots Ave between Van Sindren St and Fountain Ave. This hood is mostly residential. It was first settled in 1670 when Dutch farmers were migrating from Old Lots. In 1835, it was absorbed into East NY by Charles Pitkin to make it rival with NYC, but it failed after two years. In 1852, New Lots became its own town. It became part of Brooklyn in 1886. Unfortunately, poverty hit the area very hard throughout the 1900's causing for residents that were living there before to move to the suburbs. New Lots has improoved in recent years, but it still remains the same despite that. Even though it does have its own neighborhood status, it is still associated with East NY. You can get here by taking the subway to New Lots Ave-Van Sindren St (L) and New Lots Ave-Cleveland St (3). Here is what you will find in New Lots.
