THE DUBAI GUYS May 25th, 2007, 10:07 AM Building starts on Sheikh Hamdan's Awards Building
by Christopher Sell on Tuesday, 22 May 2007
Construction has commenced on the new Sheikh Hamdan bin Maktoum Awards building. Located off the Jumeirah Beach Road at the southern end of Al Dyafa, the new complex will become the centrepiece of Sheikh Hamdan's new drive for the emirate's alternative to the Nobel Prize, rewarding those in economics and academia. This week teams were being instructed on the formwork systems being used the build.
The site has video cameras set up so that HH Sheikh Hamdan can monitor construction and according to Frank Odzewalski, CEO, Hunnebeck, the German company responsible for the formwork of the awards building, because HH Sheikh Hamdan's regular presence on site, there is an emphasis on professionalism. "You have never seen a construction site like it, it is so clean, it is like a living room - workers are fined if they throw away a cigarette and they must only eat in designated areas." The project is due to be completed in 2008.
Hunnebeck are one of three formwork companies operating on the Burj Dubai - the other being Meva and Doka.

I passed by the site yesterday evening and saw the consultant's name. It's Arkiteknik (http://www.emporis.com/en/cd/cm/?id=arkiteknikinternational-dubai-unitedarabemirates). The design consultant of Grand Hyatt Dubai (http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/cx/?id=grandhyattdubai-dubai). Notice some similarities of the facade.

Julito-dubai June 19th, 2008, 10:32 AM There are a lot of building sites in Dubai, but this area I hated to walk most. Took me nearly 30min to get around that round about into Satwa as there are too many holes and non existant sidewalks...but this complex seemed quite large though

Dubai: Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance and President of Dubai Municipality, Wednesday reviewed a number of service and recreational projects of the Municipality.
The projects are part of the municipality's agenda to develop Dubai city.
Shaikh Hamdan was briefed by Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director-General of the municipality, on the municipality's plan to develop the human resources, especially women employees.
Lootah said Emiratis represented 57 per cent of the work force, excluding blue collar workers, according to 2008 statistics.
Emiratis occupied 100 per cent of top leadership positions and 90 per cent of middle leadership posts, Lootah said.
The municipality aims to increase emiratisation rate in support positions to 65 per cent from 51 per cent by the end of this year.
Emirati women represented 44 per cent of the total municipality employees in 2008 compared to 21 per cent in 1995.
Shaikh Hamdan issued instructions to give more attention to the human cadres, and attract more qualified employees, as well as to focus on training and qualification programmes.
He reviewed work progress at the new sewage treatment plant in Jebel Ali, and underlined the necessity to make the best use of treated water and connect it to agricultural areas in Dubai.
He reviewed work progress on irrigation network project in Al Aweer as well as greenery projects implemented to increase greenery to eight per cent of Dubai's urban space.
Shaikh Hamdan was also briefed on service projects, including the Dubai Sports Park at a cost of Dh1.121 billion, and is expected to be completed by 2010.
He also viewed the Dh326 million-Hamdan Bin Rashid Awards Project, which will be completed in August, and the unified ambulance service centre in Warsan, which has a capacity of 135 ambulances at a cost of Dh60 million.
