to replace the missing photos earlier posted here:

Anchorage- my place of birth, the only place in Alaska of any size whatsoever. Most people think alaska is all eskimos and Inuits and stuff hopefully these pics will prove them wrong. (When i lived in Alaksa I didint know 1 native) The Mountain Backdrop is very beutiful and you can see Moose and Wolves roaming downtown on a daily basis. most of the buildings have names of oil companies on them though....

Anchorage has 2 sets of buildings this one -

the skyline doesn't look bad at all for a small Alaskan city founded in 1915!

I give it a 9 for its small size but not bad skyline.

I am very impressed with this skyline considering the location.

But still not much to look at. 5.5

The natural setting is wonderful. It's abit of a stretch to say that there is a skyline in those pix at all. The skylines of many suburbs and edge cities are far more impresive. 1/10

For an isolated Alaskan city so far away, it's a pretty good skyline. I would actually expect to see more buildings considering all the energy companies doing business in Anchorage, maybe they can't build tall because of the earthquake danger?

I've been in the downtown area and it's fairly lively. I can see more Seattle-like high and low rise condos being built in the future enhancing the skyline. The setting is one of America's best. 8/10

Unparalelled natural beauty and a unique location... not a terribly large city... but the skyline is still quite boring, short and uninspiring.

Can't see any images, but from what I remember of Anchorage, it reminds me of Darwin Australia, not many highrises, but still looks pretty cool. I won't score it yet though until I take another look at pics from somewhere.

I dont like the skyline very much but for its size 270,000 its ok and to be isolated area in Alaska its OK 4.5 I think it should do something like Des Moines, IA

There's not a great deal there, but what is there works well together and works well in the natural setting. Not bad at all, especially when you consider how the city was nearly flattened by the Good Friday Earthquake back in the 60's.

7/10 I've seen pics of Downtown Anchorage before, in fact I think some where used here. I like the pic of Downtown over the park. Anchorage is actually a fairly important city, but its small population make it easily overlooked.

i was really suprised by the skyline of anchorage. i really never thought of the city to be so interesting, i just thought it was a place where old people, and animals lived. i suppose that i was wrong, and that is a fairly modern city.
i hope to see more for the skyline later on in the future.

i give a prefect score for the skyline, since it has both nice buildings, and a very nice climate around the city.

I give it a 10. How many cities in this world has a snow-capped mountain range in its background? And everyone loves Alaskans.

Well, many South American cities ( such as Santiago or Mendoza ) have the Andes as a backdrop. Mexico City has a trio of volcanos, each over 3,000 meters tall, surrounding the city. Denver, Portland and Seattle sometimes show the mountains. The Alps serve as a background for many european cities, and Beirut and Tehran both have beautiful ranges behind. But yes, there are very few cities that take the feel of Anchorage.

I'm going to give Anchorage 10/10.

Why? Well, for a relatively small city, it has an impressive skyline. Add to that, it's so far north and it's a very special/unique looking city and the icy/mountain backdrop just adds to the overall appeal of the place.

Besides, 36 Crazyfists are from there.

because it is a twin of my hometown (yellowknife) skyline-wise.

anchorage - yknife similarities:
- latitude (anch - 61, yknife - 62)
- both have waterfronts
- same skyline; but different patterns

anchorage:
- it has mountains, yknife doesn't
- pop is 285,000
- density is 64 per sq km.
- cool in summer, warm in winter

yknife:
- no mountains, pure rocky terrain
- pop is 17,000
- 3x denser than anchorage (200 per sq. km)
- warm in summer, cool in winter

therefore:
they're twin cities. lol

I had no idea Anchorage was so much bigger. You guys in Yellowknife need to get busy if you want to catch up in the population department. Nice info, but Yellowknife is not cool in the winter. I froze my hole off in Fort Frances last winter, and I doubt Yellowknife is warmer than the Ontario/Minnesota border. Cool would be 10C. Cold would be 0C. Anything below -5C is very cold.

What industry supports Anchorage? Energy and defence?

Anchorage looks like a beautiful city. The backdrop is AMAZING! All that snowcapped mountains. However, the skyline is very small. I can only imagine how cold the winters are

The winters actually aren't as harsh as people would imagine, it rarely drops below 0 for any significant amount of time.
