Very tall twin towers that just started construction so time to make a thread, they're 395m to spire btw so they're cheaters :)

Use: Hotel
Location: Business Bay near the point where the creek crosses the sheikh zayed road
Floors: 77 each
Completion: 2010

I agree, they look weird but this just seems to be a style that's unique to Dubai.

They got the height, style ... but for some reason, i just don't like em... they just seem too eccentric for some reason... not in a good way that is..

The renders seem to be done in typical dubai fashion which means:
1: Showing no other towers around
2: Not showing the reflections, etc properly so the render looks cartoony

I'm sure the facade will end up quite different as often happens. Also it needs an improved roof structure since the one now looks tagged on instead of part of the tower.
Those nighttime pics though are

Emirates Park Hotel and all the other buildings, up to Nuaimi tower, should be pushed back by one plot at least. Where you have them now, should be these ones:

... with the towers being right behind them.

I think if these towers were to be built in a different country, they would get a lot of media attention. Imho they are not only very tall, but beautiful as well, very interesting design.

I love them! So gritty and caricaturely, like something out of a comic book. Wouldn't fit anywhere except in Dubai. There's something very depraved in designs like this, not a single trace of dignity, and that's what makes it great, because it really gets built and people are going to work there and live around the buildings.

They have been pouring concrete for the past 2 days on the basement of the waterfront facing tower, the one with the completed piling as shown on post 55.

I don't know about the other tower but a crane is erected on that site as well, so they must be still preparing for the pour (if not done already).

Boring? Yes, compared with what's going around. I guess that most highrise-fans would love to have the Citadel u/c in their city, here it will look mediocre.

To me, the Emirates Park Towers are no actual beauties with their unconventionel design, but certainly will be eycatchers . When these massive twins rise, towers like the Citadel might get an inferiority complex... :pet:

I don't think they are filling up the creek, it will be stupid to do so when they have to extend it for some 2 - 3 km more to reach the sea, let alone thinking about all those plots near the canal.

It seams someone is doing dewatering and is just throwing the water there.

^^ The reason for the slowdown is the re-configuration of the central core which is very substantial. They have already done it on the rower closer to the water and are currently doing the re-configuration of the formwork on the other tower.

That's really a very big and extensive re-configuration.

I'm trying to understand this correctly, they are re-configuring the forms in order to change the shape of the core as it progresses upwards from this elevation? I assume that was part of the plan (blueprints) or is this a new structural alteration to the design (did they modify the structural plan after starting construction?)

AltinD
August 10th, 2008, 12:21 AM
^^ No, we are not talking about change of plans and it is normal for the progress to slow when the core is re-configured. The TRUMP tower in your city is the best example of it, having progress "stopped" for as long as one month.

CMack
August 10th, 2008, 10:53 PM
^^ I see, makes sense. They have made decent progress considering 2 ~400M being simultaneously built. It will be very interesting to see the cladding once it starts being applied on the towers since the renderings show such a vibrant reflective blue color... wonder how it will end up looking!

Only 10 floors have been added since January 31st which means 1 floor per ~1.4 month. This equals to ~9 years to top out! A few more extra years may take for completion. It seems 2020 is the completion date.

Yeah, and when Trump Tower in Chicago didn't move for 2 months while they did core reconfiguration at the setbacks, did you estimate that it would never be finished?

well heres the reason why it took so long
As I said in the Supertalls section, the reason for the delay is a seamingly major re-configuration of the central core and the formwork around it.

Superb picture of the booming business bay!
But with 5 MB wayyyyy too big IMO... loading took almost 10 minutes on the old PC I'm working at. It can be easily reduced to around 1 MB without significiant loss of quality or size (e.g. by saving once more with simple graphic programs like Microsoft Paint). Would be kind if you could replace it, Axel_F :wink2:

But back to topic: for the first time, Emirates Park Towers have an impact to appear with the downtown skyline in background. I think the cores are at 25th or 26th floor - what a nice progress now!

This towers have one of the most exceptional designs that I've seen...the facade with the overhanging balconies is very interesting, as well the top part, which looks a little bit like a rounded pagoda...though I think that the spires don't really fit well to this design.

Btw that's a great pic that Axel F posted ...on it Dubai's skyline already looks like its one of the top 5 worldwide, and I'm sure its not gonna be a long time until Dubai gets there. (Now its in the top 10 definitely, but maybe not quite in the 5 best worldwide)...but when Burj Dubai and Pentominium as well as all the other supertalls currently U/C will be finished, I'm sure that Dubai will be no.1

Here's my 2-cents worth: IMHO the repetition and relationship between design elements in these towers is absolutely brilliant. Even if you don't love the design, you've gotta appreciate the consistency of design protocol in these. I love the way the outward curving side elements bring an upward sweep to the building. It really emphasizes the upward feeling of the towers and encourages the eyes to look up and up and up. Awesome!

While I understand, to a certain extent at least, where people might be coming from when they critique the wealth and exuberance of Dubai, yada yada yada. I'm more concerned about workers rights, quite frankly. But with that said, the architecture design in Dubai, for the most part, is so incredibly brave, audacious, bold. It evokes a feeling of freedom in design that few other cities can compare, save for maybe Doha. Now there's another place to really enjoy visually.

When I see the architecture design in Dubai and Doha, I feel as though that is what American architects/engineers would truly want to build! And they would, if they could. People get so incredibly nationalistic on these threads and it's so boring. C'mon. There's nothing wrong with appreciating beauty, even if it isn't in your country.

Let's face it people, the talls and supertalls being built nowadays in the states, with some notable exceptions (Chicago Spire) are rather plain and boring, in comparison. I mean, look at the new Trump Tower in Chicago. Can you say boring? I mean, even if you like it, you have to admit that it isn't anything like Trump. It's not bold and exuberant!

And, don't even get me started on the whole Ground Zero thing. The idea that no one can critique the delays or the design without being labeled as un-American is so incredibly ridiculous. Get over it people!

Anyhow, it's architecture design like these beautiful towers that I find exceptionally inspiring and wonderful to behold.

And while I'm at it, I've gotta say to Imre and the other wonderful photographers that grace these threads with your magnificent pics ... THANK YOU! You truly inspire and bring these amazing feats of design and engineering to our computer screens and you deserve a great deal of credit for your many talents. We're so very fortunate to have you in our cyber community!

ive created a diagram for the twins. ive scaled heigths from renders ect. seems like the main roof will be the typical 300m.
325m for top roof.
we are about half way up.
