I just noticed that the 40 storey tower jutts out into the marina itself, so there is plenty of room for it to be built in front of the torch. I think this is likely to be in front of the torch. Notice how the angle means that the view for resident of the tower would face to the left towards marinascape.

If this is the case the Torch should still have quite a good marina view to the left. However it might block the view of grosvenor house which would be a shame to block with a commie tower.

Anyway what is Gourmet tower ? Is this for restaurants only, 6 stories of restaurants?

it would make more sense (wishful thinking really!) that the 40 floor tower to be between TT/MH and the shops and restaurant on the sales centre plot connected to the hotel. :)

It looks like the 40 storey tower could be on the left hand side of plot A5C and angled in such a way so that people get views down the length of the marina.

The mall seems to cover a much wider area – perhaps the right hand side of plot A5C and all of A5D, with Gourmet Tower being on A5E.

This could be bad news for marina facing/sea view owners (aspect 06) in floors 1-40 on the left side of the Torch.

It never fails to amaze me why you guys debate these issues rather than doing the obvious which I have just done as a Marina Heights owner by ringing Meinhardt in Singapore. I spoke to the project manager and the render you are debating is not in front of MH/TT but is the Marina Mall.

Marina Gardens probably only proposed/never built, but still not confirmed, and Najd plot has appearantly been bought from another developer, a forumer has been told it was the Saudi/Arabtec Jointventure which builts Le Reve

I picked up the term 'Marina Walk' from this forum, I think?

The promenade area along Phase 1 has two long sections under the tower arrangement which include Cafes/Restaurants (Starbucks, Johnny Rockets, Steak House/Pizza-Pasta Etc) & Shops (incl Spinneys Supermarket).

The cafes & restaurants have indoor (air-conned) & outdoor seating areas & the pedestrian friendly concept makes it very attractive, overlooking the Marina. The sequenced fountains are also impressive, I was there late Friday just before sun-set, it was a lot busier than my photos suggest. :cool:

it might be extended over the whole marina probably.

the term actually comes from Emaar, there is even a sign on the boards around the towers.

Nice photos - I like the video of the dancing fountian. The marina walk will have to extend over the whole marina if people are actually going to stay in those tens of thousands of apartments. It will eventually be a very busy area with a lot of people to feed.

Another whale shark swims into Marina

A whale shark, the world's largest fish, was spotted yesterday morning at the Dubai Marina complex. The creature, which can grow up to 15 metres, is harmless and eats plankton and small fish.

Dubai Residents and workers at Dubai Marina were stunned to see a whale shark swimming through the bay yesterday morning.

The animal, which was about five metres long, attracted a crowd of onlookers as it swam close to the barriers at the edge of the pedestrian walkways.

Among those lucky enough to see the creature, thought to be a juvenile because of its modest size, was Ania Sikora from Australia, who spotted it from her 14th floor flat.

"It was swimming around the bay for about four hours. It was amazing. It was swimming in a very graceful way I felt like jumping in and having a swim with it," she said.

The first sighting yesterday was reported at 8am and Sikora said she last saw the animal at about midday. Residents said they were unsure if the animal had escaped back into the Arabian Gulf.

This is not the first time that a whale shark has been seen in Dubai Marina, with Gulf News reporting in November on the arrival of a four-metre-long specimen. About a year before this there was another sighting.

Ebrahim Al Zu'bi, Director of the Environment and Research Department at Emirates Diving Association, said he was unsure why they had visited the marina.

He said he was ready to help rescue the shark and lead it out to open waters if it was seen in the marina bay again.

He added: "They are harmless creatures they are very interesting and amazing for all sea lovers."

The RTA has received just one bid for the second package on the Al-Sufouh road scheme, with Wade Adams submitting a price of AED 295 million ($80 million). The 500-day contract entails the construction of two single-span bridges of up to 120 metres across Dubai Marina and associated roads.Unlike previous bridges across the marina, backfilling cannot be used as the navigation channel must remain open at all times. The existing bridge will be demolished once the new bridges are completed. France’s Systra is the consultant.

Not sure what the new bridges thing is all about (is it the one bridge now from Al Sufouh Rd that will be knocked down?) The thing that concerns me in that quote is the "one contractor" bidding. This I bet will plague all of Dubai's developments. There aren't enough contractors to go around to build them.

Just next to Radisson SAS Residence, they are building a new one. The board with render is up and it was written "DELTA 1".

Achim Mende (Emirates Today) has been making photo reportages for 20 years. After two years of development, the balloon camera was born, a 3mm helium balloon which houses a highresolution digital camera. By a video-link he is able to view what the camera can see via some cyberglasses, and because the balloon is tethered by a rope, he has full control of what he captures.

i doubt marina is open at both ends, expect it to be done 1st Q 2007 when JBR is ready.

the bridge near GV will be rebuilt/demolished soon, tender is out.

In a bid to safeguard the marine environment, Dubai Marina Motor Yacht Club, a subsidiary of real estate major Emaar Properties, has decided to ban all two-stroke outboard engine powered boats on its waterways. A pioneering initiative in marina projects in the region, the ban will be enforced with immediate effect.

“The two-stroke outboard motors, found on a number of boats and personal watercraft, emit huge quantities of polluting hydrocarbons,” said Joe Goddard, General Manager, Dubai Marina Motor Yacht Club.

“It is estimated that one hour of operation by a 70-HP two-stroke motor emits the same hydrocarbon pollutants as driving 8,000 km in a modern automobile. World over, therefore, there is increased concern on the use of these engines on waterways.”

With the ban on the two-stroke outboard engines, Dubai Marina Motor Yacht Club hopes to build on the marina’s environmental safety. “The move was imperative in the long-run,” said Goddard. “We took the initiative early, so that the waterways can be maintained clean and quiet, and thus add to the pleasure of the boating experience.” Dubai Marina Motor Yacht Club now berths 170 boats. “Another 300 berths will be added in less than 12 months,” said Goddard.

it is not that easy..

i seriously doubt the power station will be moved, they invested billions of Dhs in the last years to upgrade it.
also there is an immense shortgage in Dubai, i would rather expect them to make it bigger.


about completion date.. well 'have' to be completed.. what does that mean.. if it is not done, it is not done, u can't make if faster than it is possible.

but on the other hand, i think 2010 is good date.

"The correction in the property market will not be dramatic, as the prices might decline by 20 to 30 per cent, which can result even in negative inflation in Dubai."

"The reason for the correction is the over-supply that will hit the market starting from the end of this year," he said.


Building work will have to slow down. Developers will not want a falling price market.

The original video was captured on my 3 year old Canon MV650I (digital video camcorder). Its been a good camcorder, the only problem I have is time constraints whilst recording (the better half gives me a bit of grief when i take to long trying to get a good shot :rant: - :hilarious), this results is some dodgy pans & slight shake due to the lack of tripod use.

The capture video was quickly edited digitally, using Pinnacle Studio 9 software.

PS shame this thread has been hijacked by a sales shark 'Yasirsyed2002', he's even sent out PM's trying to sell his property :spam1: . . . ban him!
