Where abouts are you staying, as usual with these things, where you stay should also give an indicator how expensive or cheap things are.

Since I do not have any much details from ya - I would give ya a very general indicator:
Food: Definitely the cheapest of stuffs. Plus it is good quality too. But beware of spicy stuffs if you are not too use to it. I would suggest you first try out restaurants first before venturing to roadside stalls (which the food are the best value for money and some of the tastiest). Or ask a Malaysian friend to accompany you in any gastronomic adventure ;)
Beer: I am not too sure about alcoholic drinks as I dislike em but all I know that on the resort island of Lnagkawi, beer is cheaper than bottled water :D
Hotels: IN contrary to what many Malaysians might have told ya, our hotels be it 5 stars or 3 stars, it is still the cheapest in the region and one of the cheapest in the world. A standard 4-star hotel smack in the middle of KL's shopping district would cost around 20 - 30 sterling Pounds or $30 - $60 USD a night
iPod: I think buying an iPod here might be slightly costly but the difference isn't that much. I would however suggest you get one first before coming here. Or maybe you could compare prices with those in the UK with the pricing of iPods at any Malaysian online stores first.
Mobile Phones: Similar to iPods........UK might have slightly better pricing but in Malaysia it is not too far off. Major brands would have released their latest models at least a few weeks ahead in UK then only in the Malaysian market, However here in Malaysia, we do get a lot of smallish Taiwanese, Chinese and Korean brands that are not available in the UK. I suggest you stick to the big boys :D
Cars: We are the 4th most expensive (feels like 2nd hehe) place in the world to buy a car. Owning a car isn't cheap either :ohno: Enough said .......
Houses: That depends on where you stay........
Big Mac: According to the Big Mac Index, we are one of the cheapest! :D
Republica January 3rd, 2007, 06:57 PM thanks for your help, i honestly had no idea how much electronics would be but it seems they are probably not more expensive/cheaper at all that the UK. I'm staying in Kajang outside KL.
And no - i'm not scared of spicy food, my kitchen is full of chillies :) i cant wait for the food and hotels - they sound amazing. im guessing beer will be like anywhere in the UK then - can be very cheap but can be very expensive (between 70p and £4.00 for a drink i've paid).
AhChuan January 4th, 2007, 12:46 PM ^^ ^^ Hahaha....nope, Malaysia's food quite spicy for some. Like chinese food not really spicy lar, but if malay food, ah.....quite spicy if you eat curry or laksa. Indian food most ok. Nothing to scare, haha......
Well, all these are for me.....
Here, everything oso got, I mean beer. Cheap. U wan heineken or wat??
