the thing with test bores (which they have been confirmed as) is that they can be seen as a very good sign for a number of reasons. it is this stage that the engineers and developers are looking to see if their plans correspond with the geology they think is in the area and if they need o adapt their plans slightly.

however, these are tests for a very good reason. the test can come back clean and work can start soon after. or they can come back...erm...not so clear, find a natural drain, fault line, etc which can set plans back months.

so, although im excited about this and look forward to seeing it progress, i just come from a city that knows yo have to air on the side of caution for such large buldings sometimes!

Ok so here we go !... It's started ! 21.05.2007  Was chatting to a guy on site today then later to the driver of the digger, Think he said he worked for Hanleys or Hewlletts, something like that ?, They will be test piling in 2 weeks time then "capping off" 2 weeks after that they will be piling again 5 sets (areas) of piling work 4 on each set... There is nothing wrong with the ground work !!!! The driver of the digger said the ground was fine, He said Lumiere is NOT behind schedule and every thing is "running on time" !

Photos from today..

Following on from my earlier post, here's what the fella had to say

Im going on what ive been told by people from carillion mate ...The piling is in with the 80 weeks it has to be doesnt it when you think ..I know the capping beams are ready and sat at a holding yard at castleford
As far as i know the civils will be starting very soon but the bit im interested in ie the frame etc wont be till earliest october ,when they forecast the shafts will be partially sunk ..
I was down there today and they had geo teams in and they are clearing the ground so your probably right .

Remind me when the summer bash is? I'm back in Leeds for a month as of the 2nd of June... Lots of alcohol and furied skyscraper discussion sounds like an excellent idea!

As many of us are in town regularly, surely we can meet up for a drink or whatever at any time, I was in town this evening so could have met for a pint with anyone else who was in.
