Talaga? intresado din relatives nila? sige, let them tour WV (western visayas)! Sobrang dami pa kasi ang hindi nyo na explore, so its good na hindi lahat ng sites sa WV napuntahan nyo, hehe....

For guimaras, there is this turtle sanctuary na hindi nyo napuntahan.

For bacolod and negros, well, bacolod muna, they have a negrense museum detailing how the locals outfoxed a superior spanish force during the revolution. there is also the ruins na site. And they have the Lagoon sa kanilang plaza.

For negros occidental as a whole, well, I'm not really familiar sa sites dun, but one thing I'm sure is that their Mambukal Hot Springs is a must try, sobrang sarap ng ambiance ng place. Nature talaga doc, pwede kayo mag canoeing, bird watching, bat watching, trekking and hiking. =)

For capiz, you guys haven't explored the isla marbuena and olotayan islands yet. And the Diwal of course, hehe. =)

For iloilo, you guys may want to visit the mansions, try batchoy, try the breakthrough restaurant, yung by the sea and overlooking the island of guimaras. plus, may mga hammocks dun, something na wala sa tatoy's. =)

I'll be happy to recommend some tour guide/s sa inyo and sa relatives nila. =)

UniGames features nation's best student athletes

MANILA, Philippines - This year’s Philippine University Games or UniGames set Oct. 22 to 29 in Roxas City, Capiz will be a showcase of the finest student athletes in the country.

It will also give the Philippine Sports Commission, the government’s funding arm in sports, a chance to discover and identify future members of the national pool.

“The PSC is playing a more active role in the UniGames as part of our grassroots development program,” said PSC commissioner Jolly Gomez during yesterday’s PSA Forum.

“It will allow us to see athletic talent among the youth, and act on their development during their formative years,” added the PSC commissioner.

He said this year’s edition promises to be bigger than the previous ones with at least 46 universities to be represented by more than 4,000 students on hand.

They will vie in 14 sports disciplines, including athletics, basketball, football, lawn tennis, swimming, badminton, table tennis, taekwondo, volleyball, beach volleyball, sepak takraw and billiards.

Gomez said billiards is the newest sport in the UniGames calendar.

Colegio dela Purisima Concepcion will host the games with venues almost walking distance to one another, according to Gomez.

“Roxas City is all out in hosting the event. They even put up new hotels,” said the PSC commissioner.

Among the competing universities include Ateneo, La Salle, University of the Philippines, Adamson, NU, Santo Tomas, UE, San Beda and FEU.

“It will also give those from the provinces a chance to gauge their programs against these elite schools from the UAAP or the NCAA,” Gomez added.

Also sending their best bets are Ateneo de Davao, Holy Angel University, Foundation U, Mindanao State U, Negros Occ. State U, University of San Carlos, University of St. La Salle, University of San Agustin and West Negros, among others.

46 colleges, universities to join 2011 UniGames
10/11/2011 | 05:16 PM

Forty-six colleges and universities including UAAP and NCAA member schools will join the 2011 UniGames (University Games) in Roxas City, Capiz.

The Olympic sports of basketball, athletics, football, lawn tennis, swimming, badminton, table tennis, taekwondo and volleyball (indoor and beach) will be played along with billiards, chess and sepak takraw from October 22 to 29.

The 16th edition of the annual games, supported in part by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), has a theme "A Way of Life. A Path to Peace."

Metro Manila-based schools competing are Ateneo, La Salle, University of the Philippines, Adamson, National University, University of the East, University of Santo Tomas, San Beda College and College of Saint Benilde.

Host Colegio de la Purisima Concepccion will lead the charge for the provincial schools including Holy Angel University (Angeles City, Pampanga) St. Louis University (Baguio City), University of San Carlos (Cebu City) University of San Agustin (Iloilo City) and Mindanao State University (Marawi City).

Dumaguete City's Foundation University, Silliman University and Negros Oriental State University (Negros Oriental) along with neighboring province Negros Occidental's West Negros University and University of St. La Salle (Bacolod City) and Davao City's Ateneo De Davao and University of Mindanao have also confirmed their participation.

"It's a great opportunity for the provincial colleges to match themselves with the elite UAAP teams," said PSC commissioner Jolly Gomez in Tuesday's Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum.

Gomez said that the PSC, being a UniGames partner, will provide equipment like timing devices for athletics and swimming.

The Capiz provincial government said they have opened additional hotel rooms to accommodate all the athletes for the week-long games. All venues for the games are also located within Roxas City.

"We are grateful to the PSC headed by chairman Ricardo Garcia for its continued recognition and support for the UniGames. The PSC's support has enabled us to make this league grow into what it is now," said UniGames president Roger Banzuela in a statement.

"The UniGames enables provincial athletes to be discovered and eventually make it to the national pool and all the way to the national team of their chosen discipline, and the PSC takes pride in being a major partner of the UniGames throughout the past years," added Garcia. — Reuben Terrado/JVP, GMA News

Feature: IOs save lives through information
by Alex A. Lumaque

ROXAS CITY, Capiz, Oct. 13 (PIA) -- The tasks of information officers are not always conventional but varied.

Like their newspaper journalist and broadcaster counterparts, these spokespersons of the government agencies play a crucial role in emergency situations like natural disasters, terrorism and other human-initiated disasters.

This was re-affirmed recently as Tropical Depression Ramon affected the city and some municipalities in which information gathering was hastened for dissemination to Capiceños eagerly waiting for updates like passable roads, flooded areas, rescue and relief operations and weather situations, among others.

Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) – Capiz Public Information Officer Engr. Julius Abela said that information work is a combination of glamour and pressure but its fulfilling at the end of the day.

As president of the Capiz Association of Government Information Officers, Inc. (CAGPIO), Abela found himself in action reporting a situationer on a flooded national highways over Bombo Radyo Roxas last October 12.

“I want to generate public awareness of the situation,” he said.

Some of the information officers in the municipalities also experienced the same as they also became instant sources of information on what was happening in their respective localities.

The Philippine Information Agency (PIA) has organized the IOs in the towns as a source and outlet of information especially during disasters.

Abela noted that it needs a firm commitment for IOs to carry out their duties especially during emergency situations as they have also their respective families to attend to during disasters.

Information always empowers the public. It’s heartwarming to know that there are those who set aside their personal priorities in the service of others.

After all, there were also unsung heroes when Ramon hit the province – the IOs. (JCM/AAL/PIA 6 Capiz)

Capiz P1.46 B investment program gets council nod
by Jemin B. Guillermo

ROXAS CITY, Capiz, Oct. 12 (PIA) -- The Provincial Development Council of Capiz has approved the province’s Annual Investment Program (AIP) for 2012 last Oct.11.

In a meeting which was attended by majority of the 38 members, the AIP of Capiz amounting to more than P1.46 billion was unanimously approved.

Next year’s investment has been appropriated for the various programs and services of the province namely general public services as well as social, economic and other services.

Included in the general public services with a funding of more than P303.51 million, are services on executive, legislative, development and planning, treasury, accounting, auditing, investigation and legal services, rehabilitation and safekeeping of social offenders, and personnel management, among others.

The investment under the social services programs reached more than P823.62 million which covers education and manpower development, health, nutrition and population control, and social security, social services and welfare.

The economic services with more than P266.80 million in investment include programs on agricultural and fishery, veterinary, natural resources, infrastructure development and livelihood services as well as tourism development.

The province’s aid to barangays and calamity fund appropriation for next year was set at more than P39.08 million.

Of the total amount, more than P649.25 million was sourced out from the General Fund, P134.47 from the Development Fund, P8 million from the Special Education Fund and P641.29 million from external sources

In addition to the AIP, the Council likewise approved the proposed programs and projects which will be funded by 20 percent of the 2011 unappropriated Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) and savings from the 2010 20-percent Development Fund of the province.

The approved amount of P28.665 million will cover programs on education and manpower development, cultural services, social security, social service and welfare as well as infrastructure development services.

On the other hand, Gov. Tanco stressed that the AIP of the province excludes those that were promised by other national agencies for various development projects in Capiz. (JCM/JBG/PIA6-Capiz)

Its quiet tiring kay lapad gd gli. and they are still constructing something just above this mini mountain, i don;t know what is it. They are also utilizing some construction vehicles and they are doing something at the other side of the mountain. at the center of the pdp there is a circumferential road and probably they will be making a very nice monument at the center of it. The Urban Manor Hotel is very good though the street there is not yet paved but you can reach easier. It's located just in front of the Ceres Terminal. Another building is being constructed at the back of Hercor College - Riverside, it's not that big but i believe its a grocery/department store.

Another building is being constructed at the back of Hercor College - Riverside, it's not that big but i believe its a grocery/department store.

Nice Update for Pdp..by next year siguro more na visible na mga buildings sa Pdp..:cucumber::cucumber::cucumber:

DTI – Capiz to monitor ‘Undas’ items
by Alex A. Lumaque

ROXAS CITY, Capiz, Oct. 17 (PIA) -- The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) – Capiz here will monitor prices of items commonly sold during “Undas” such as candles and flowers as Filipinos will troop again to cemeteries on Nov. 1 and 2.

“Undas” is the Filipinized version of All Saints/Souls Day.

DTI – Capiz director Ermelinda P. Pollentes reminded Capiceño consumers to buy early unperishable goods like candles to avoid the rush as the occasion comes close.

Based on the September 2011 monitoring of the average price of candle #3 pack of 20 is P30.88; #5 pack of 20 is P35.38; and #16 pack of 4 is P26.60.

Other candle sizes like #5 and #18 will also be monitored by the DTI so that consumers will be properly guided.

Pollentes added that prices of flowers will also be closely monitored especially during the last week of October because trading of flowers will be at its peak during these days.

Filipinos light candles and offer flowers in memory of their dead relatives on the cemeteries where their relatives or love ones were buried on ‘Undas’ in addition to sincere prayers.

Meanwhile, everyone will have the full opportunity to properly observe the All Saints and Souls Days with all its religious fervor as President Benigno S. Aquino III has declared Oct. 31, Monday, as special non-working day throughout the country.

The declaration is embodied in Presidential Proclamation No. 265 issued last Oct. 10 in Malacañang. (JCM/AAL/PIA 6 Capiz)

‘Ramon’ affects 77 Capiz villages
by Jemin B. Guillermo

ROXAS CITY, Capiz, Oct. 13 (PIA) -- Some 77 barangays in Capiz were affected by Tropical Storm Ramon that hit the province yesterday, October 12.

Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council action officer Esperedion Pelaez said that most of the reported barangays were affected by flash floods.

He said based on their report as of 8 in the morning today, about 2,153 families or 4,321 individuals were affected. This will include about 1,500 families from Roxas City, 500 families in Ivisan, 100 families in Pilar, 51 families in Panay and 2 families in President Roxas.

Two houses in President Roxas were also reported as totally damaged due to the flash flood while two persons were reported injured in Ivisan.

Pelaez said that they are still waiting for the report from the different local government units on the damage on agriculture and fishery for consolidation.

On the other hand, he said Capiz Gov. Victor Tanco with members of the PDRRMC Action Office is personally conducting ocular inspection in the different areas in the province to personally assess the impact of storm Ramon.

He added that waters in most of the reported barangays already subsided as of today’s early morning monitoring.

Meanwhile, Tanco commended the city and town’s DRRMCs for the immediate response.

He said preparedness really counts in mitigating the impacts of disaster especially in saving lives and properties. (JCM/JBG/PIA6-Capiz)

Rice plantations affected by ‘Ramon’by Jemin B. Guillermo

ROXAS CITY, Capiz, Oct. 14 (PIA) -- More than 5,000-hectare palay plantation in Capiz were submerged underwater due to typhoon ‘Ramon.”

Provincial Rice Coordinator Amy Sagge of the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist said that as of October 13, a total of 5,707 hectares of rice lands duly planted with palay were flooded because of the continued heavy rainfall brought by said typhoon.

Sagge said that of the total affected area, 67 percent of which or 3,808 hectares of palay plantation are on the vegetative phase, 24 percent or 1,405.75 hectares are on maturity phase and nine percent or 493.25 hectares on reproductive phase.

She said that most of the plantation that were underwater were in Pontevedra with 1,426.75 hectares, followed by Pilar with 910 hectares, Panitan with 786 hectares, Sigma with 527 hectares, Roxas City with 449 hectares, Maayon with 373 hectares, Sapian with 372 hectares and Dao with 273 hectares.

For Panay town, the flooded plantation reached 186 hectares, Mambusao has 171 hectares, Dumarao has 150 hectares, Ivisan has 70 hectares and 10 hectares in President Roxas.

She said that they are still waiting for the final report after validation of the extent of damage by the agricultural technicians from the different towns and city here.

Sagge added that representatives from the Department of Agriculture Regional Office VI were also in Capiz to conduct actual survey of the rice plantation damage.

According to her, the damage on rice brought by Tropical Depression “Ramon” is still negligible especially since the palay are on its maturity phase.

Capiz, she said, remains a rice sufficient province despite the recent devastation as the average production of the province reached 3.28 metric tons per hectare based on its October 11 report. (JCM/JBG/PIA6-Capiz)

Panay rail rehab stokes firms’ interest (http://www.bworldonline.com/content.php?section=Economy&title=Panay-rail-rehab-stokes-firms%E2%80%99-interest&id=40319)

ILOILO CITY -- The planned P16-billion Panay railway rehabilitation project has attracted interest of various firms, Cesar S. Capellan, Panay Railways Inc. (PRI) director and officer-in-charge, told journalists here earlier this week.
Mr. Capellan said representatives of various groups had visited his company’s office in Metro Manila, including those from Metro Pacific Investments Corp.; San Miguel Corp.; Century Properties Group; SIBC Holdings Co., Ltd; as well as Gyeongin Engineering Co. Ltd. from South Korea and local partner Green Asia Construction and Development Corp.

While Mr. Capellan said representatives of these firms got copies of the feasibility study and relocation plan for settlers along the rail line from Iloilo City to Roxas City in Capiz province, officials of the companies concerned were not immediately available to confirm their interest in the project.

“They are gathering data they need for their own studies to find out if the project is viable. Hopefully, the results of their studies and evaluation of the project will become the basis of their formal written offer to invest,” Mr. Capellan said

By the way according to my relative who is an engineer and happens to be the right hand of the current city mayor, informed us that the city government will be planning to construct 3 markets in roxas probably next year. One is in Barangay Banica, another in brgy. cagay and the last one is in lawa-an. RMPH will also construct a hospital at Capitol Hills, Brgy.Bolo, Roxas CIty. A 250 bed capacity hospital approximately 5-story building and will start early next year. According to my source too, the Ong Family will also build another hotel just above the hill at the Pdp, acctually nakastart na sila and the hotel will be fully constructed by december this year. I'll be there in roixas next week to watch the Unigames. Hopefully makita ko c Cha Cruz of DLSU "lady spikers" hehehe. According to my classmate too. The Balgos Family will also construct a mall at the Brgy Banica, just beside the Health Centrum. UniGames: Eagles in big debut

Published : Tuesday, October 25, 2011 00:00 Article Views : 45 Written by : People's Journal

ROXAS CITY—Reigning UAAP men’s basketball champion Ateneo brought its winning act to the Philippine Sports Commission-University Games (PSC-UniGames), demolishing local bet Filamer Christian University, 90-50, in its debut game yesterday at the Villareal Stadium here.

The Eagles are hoping to complete an unfinished business in this annual collegiate multi-sports meet after failing to make it to the winner’s podium last year in Dumaguete City won by National University.

But in the absence of the Bulldogs, the Eagles have loomed as the overwhelming favorite to romp off the title this time, with fellow Manila team St. Francis of Assisi College and West Negros University of Bacolod as the other possible contenders.

The Eagles had just completed a two-game sweep of the Far Eastern University Tamaraws in the UAAP men’s cage finals to capture their fourth straight league championship.

Other men’s basketball results saw Ateneo de Davao dispatch Foundation University, 82-65, and Holy Cross Davao beat Iloilo Doctors College, 68-59.

continuation of the above....

This developed as PSC chairman Ritchie Garcia announced that the UniGames, now on its 16th year, is now officially the tertiary league of the PSC for its grassroots program.

In women’s basketball, defending champion Adamson likewise had an impressive debut when it routed College of St. Benilde, 87-69, in late Sunday games.

National University on the other hand, notched a second straight win at the expense of Holy Cross Davao, 100-58.

Also posting a 2-0 slate was St. Louis University, which posted a come-from-behind 47-43 victory over University of Mindanao. St. Louis trailed by four in the last two minutes, but scored the game’s last eight points to pull off the stirring win.

In men’s volleyball, last year’s runner-up Foundation University turned back John B. Lacson Maritime Foundation University in four sets, 25-22, 25-19, 23-25, 25-21, for its first win.

Other results saw Holy Cross Davao swept host school Colegio dela Purisima Concepcion in straight sets, DMMA College of Southern Philippines trounced Negros Oriental State University in four sets, contender University of St. La Salle defeated NU also in 4 sets, and Iloilo Doctors College crushed St. Louis University likewise in a four-set win.

Opening day winners in table tennis competition were Xavier University over De La Salle University, 3-1, JLBFMU shutout CPC 3-0, and VMA Global College prevailed over Holy Angel University 3-1.

Central Philippine University opened the lawn tennis competition by defeting USLS, 2-0.

PIA Press Release
Tuesday, October 25, 2011

UniGames now official sports for tertiary level
by Jemin B. Guillermo

ROXAS CITY, Capiz, 25 (PIA) -- The Philippine Sports Commission has adopted the University Games (UniGames) as the official sports competition in the tertiary level.

During the opening ceremony of the 2011 UniGames in Capiz, PSC Chair Ricardo Garcia said that the adoption of the games is in line with the national government’s sports promotion and development.

Garcia said that the same is also aligned with the PSC grassroots sports program in the country which creates opportunities for young athletes to show their athletic skills and talents and get discovered.

“UniGames has become an avenue for young athletes whose roots are in the provinces to become national athletes,” he said. He added that UniGames enables provincial athletes to be discovered and eventually make it to the national pool and all the way to the national team of their chosen discipline.

Garcia stressed that they are bringing the UniGames to the provinces so that young athletes in the provinces are given the chance to play and compete with those known players in Metro Manila.

Due to the growing interest of Filipinos in sports, Garcia also revealed that the Batang Pinoy program of PSC has also been revived.

He said that the program is open to 13 to 15 year-old kids who intend to showcase their skills and talents in sports.

“We revived the program because of the PSC mandate of grassroots development and the need to expand the base of young athletes, Garcia said.

On the other hand, he lauded the organizers of the 2011 UniGames in Capiz for putting in place all the necessary preparations for the successful holding of said event.

In particular, he commended the lead host, Colegio dela Purisima Concepcion and all schools in Capiz, including the provincial and city officials as well as town officials of Panay, Ivisan and Panitan, which are the other venues of the sports events, for the support and cooperation to this year’s national event in the province here from October 22 to 29. Roxas fish port needs rehab but…

ROXAS City -- The Sangguniang Panlungsod passed a resolution requesting Transportation Secretary Mar Roxas and Capiz 1st District’s Cong. Antonio del Rosario to help speed up the release of funds intended for the Libas Fishing Port in Brgy. Libas here.

Mayor Angel Alan Celino recently received a word from Atty. Rodolfo Paz, general manager of the Philippine Fisheries Development Authority, about the need to pursue the proposed rehabilitation and improvement of the Libas Fishing Port.

In his letter to Celino, Paz said the port needs improvement to accommodate the growing volume of fish and other seafood catch that pass through it every day.

The last repair made on Libas Port was in 1998 since it came into being in 1989.

Paz said there is a need to construct additional stalls to accommodate the “overflowing” supply of marine products brought to the port by different fishing boats everyday.

Paz assured Celino that the Philippine Fisheries Development Authority would include the Libas fishing port rehab and improvement in the list of its priority projects for funding.

The Philippine Fisheries Development Authority is under the Department of Agriculture. (Gerry T. Pagharion/PN)

excellent observation! :applause::applause::applause:

it's because both are classical "baroque" churches.. both were built by spanish augustinian friars several hundred years ago, after they established the 2nd spanish settlement in the town of panay (after cebu). there are actually six surviving, spanish-era churches in capiz province: panay town, roxas city (old capiz), barangay loctugan (in roxas city), dao town, dumalag town and dumarao town. hope we continue to take care of them and cherish their historical value - as we continue to use them!! :):):)

Coop Month in Capiz culminates Friday

by Alex A. Lumaque

ROXAS CITY, Capiz, Nov. 12 (PIA) -- The announcement of winners for the search for the Most Outstanding Cooperative in Capiz on Nov. 18 at the Capiz Gym will highlight the belated culmination of Cooperative Month 2011 in the province.

Participating cooperatives in the search have been evaluated this week by the judges and evaluators based on documents.

Capiz Board Member Jonathan “Sonny” Besa, who chairs the provincial legislative council’s Committee on Cooperatives, said in an interview with Budyong Kapehan aired over Wesfardel Cable here that the search was also conducted last year.

In 2010, four cooperatives – Jamindan School Teachers Cooperative, President Roxas Economic Development Cooperative, Mambusao Farmers Multi-Purpose Cooperative, and Jagnaya Multi-Purpose Cooperative – were recognized as Most Outstanding Cooperatives in the province.

Besa, who also chairs the Provincial Cooperative Development Council (PCDC), noted that the activity will kick off with a morning mass and a parade.
He added that the Roxas City government hosts this year’s gathering of cooperatives from all towns in view of the celebration with the theme "Transformative Cooperatives : Advancing People, Planet, Prosperity and Peace" with a sub-theme "Kooperatiba : Sama-sama sa Pagkandili ng Kalikasan."

The official also said that Senators Lito Lapid and Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. were invited to the celebration as keynote speakers.

Local government officials were also invited to grace the affair.

PROV’L HOSPITAL TRANSFER
Deed of donation from Ongs ready

BY FELIPE V. CELINO

ROXAS City — The deed of donation of a two-hectare land supposedly for the new area of the provincial hospital was already prepared.

With this, the transfer of the Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital (RMPH) is likely to happen, according to Gov. Victor Tanco.

Tanco earlier thought about transferring RMPH to a wider and more accessible place, as part of improving the provincial government’s health services.

This was after the Ong family, represented by businessman Jose Neri Ong, earlier expressed willingness to donate a lot in Brgy. Lawaan here.

Last week, a group led by Provincial Administrator Jose Villanueva and some provincial health officials had a study tour in Metro Manila and Batangas province to look into the health facilities of government hospitals there.

According to Villanueva, a hospital like that in Quezon City would be best for Capiz.

Tanco said the provincial government has some P37 million intended to improve the provincial hospital.

This fund, he said, will also be augmented by the amount from the P683-million credit loan with the United Coconut Planters Bank.

Tanco said P100 million from the credit facility could be used to finance the construction of a new hospital building in Pueblo de Panay, Brgy. Lawaan.

He said improving the province’s health services is one of his administration’s priority projects.

The present site of RMPH is not anymore suitable to the public that needs health assistance.

Aside from being located in the business center of the city, the place is small where the parking space for vehicles is limited.

The governor said the provincial government is planning to sell the area to investors. The proceeds could be used for other projects, he added.

Another plan is selling the property to the city government for its proposed Roxas City Hospital./PN

Low-cost housing for Roxas folks

ROXAS City — Residents of this city will have the chance to avail themselves of affordable houses, should the proposed low-cost and middle-cost housing through the Home Development Mutual Mortgage Program (HDMMP) of the Pag-IBIG Fund pushes through.

Vice Mayor Ronnie Dadivas and City Administrator Gilbert Tan recently had a project consultation with Bro. Jun Maceda, chair of the Housing and Community Development Movement (HCDM), and Joey Bieles, empowerment director.

Their discussion focused on issues and concerns related to the program that will be funded through the Medium and High Rise Building financing program of Pag-IBIG.

William Minabueno, in-charge for finance, and Engr. Romulo Sara, in-charge for technical, were also present in the consultation.

The proposed housing site here is seen to accommodate some four to five buildings — at four storeys per building — or a medium class residential condominium estimated to generate 80 aesthetically designed units per building.

The site will be on the lot owned by Mario Ramos along the provincial highway in Brgy. Tanza. It measures 3,513 square-meters.

HCDM will be the community organizer and facilitator for the proposed project that will be carried out in partnership with the city government./PN
