yup.....maybe bukit payong to Kg Gemuruh stretch will be open next month or on January 2011.........from Dato' Shaziman Mansor,Work Minister said when he visit the site on August this year......

Bukit Payong to Ajil stretch is scheduled to open to the public around Jun/July 2011.........

all stretch should be completed by Jun 2012 hopefully.......^^

E8: No, currently it is open up until Jabor. The construction for most sections between Jabor to Kuala Terengganu are almost completed. However, there are delays in some sections due to the rising costs of construction materials. Moreover, the Northeast Monsoon which causes annual flood in eastern states can be another culprid that delays the construction.

E26: It is open from Putrajaya to Saujana Putra which is connected to E6. So far the construction progress is on schedule. The same goes for E25, it is still under construction, but the pace is still on track.

KUALA TERENGGANU: The East Coast Expressway (Phase 2) (LPT 2) from Bukit Payung to Bukit Besi section is expected to open by year-end, as finishing work on the highway is almost 90 per cent complete.

State Infrastructure Development and Utility Committee chairman Datuk Za'aba Mohd Adib said the opening of the expressway from Bukit Payung to Bukit Besi includes a 64 kilometre stretch.

"However, there are other sections not yet complete, but we will open this to the public, especially for residents from Kuala Terengganu to Bukit Besi in Dungun," he said after officiating at the 38th Terengganu Malay Chamber of Commerce (DPMMT) meeting here Thursday.

The 184 kilometre-long LPT 2 project, which begins in Jabor, Kemaman, near here, to Kampung Gemuruh in northern Kuala Terengganu, is a continuation of the LPT Phase 1 from Karak to Kuantan, which spans 159 kilometres and was begun in March 2006 at an estimated initial cost of RM3.7 billion.

The project is divided into 16 portions, of which 15 were implemented by the Public Works Department and offered by conventional open tender, while another portion is being authorised through direct negotiation by the Malaysian Highway Authority.

The project, which should have been ready by the end of 2010, fell behind schedule when the appointed contractor failed to complete work on time following an increase in the cost of building materials. - BERNAMA

75km Senai-Desaru Expressway opens today

JOHOR BARU: Travelling between southwest and southeast Johor will be faster and more comfortable with the opening of the 75km Senai-Desaru Expressway today.

The highway, costing RM1.4 billion, is one of the biggest infrastructure projects under the Ninth Malaysian Plan in Johor.

It provides an important transportation link to further boost the logistics and tourism sectors in the southern region.

With the highway, travel time is about an hour between Desaru, in the south-east, and the Second Link or Tanjung Pelepas, in the south-west.

This is a stark contrast compared with the 21/2 hours of travelling along the trunk road.

In conjunction with the opening of the new highway, codenamed SDE, motorists will enjoy a toll-free journey for one month from today.

Toll collection will begin from July 10.

Malaysian Highway Authority director-general Datuk Ismail Md Salleh said the highway was partially opened to traffic from Senai to Pasir Gudang last year.

He added the highway was ready with the completion of package three of the project, which linked Cahaya Baru, in Pasir Gudang, and Penawar in Desaru, covering 27km.

The project includes a 4km bridge spanning Sungai Johor.

"The highway will change the skyline of southern Johor.

"It offers another option for commuters who want a hassle-free and fast journey."

It is expected to strengthen the status of Johor Baru as the southern transportation hub for industry players as it provides logistical support for the industrial zones in Pasir Gudang, Senai and Tanjung Pelepas.

For tourism, it is set to revive the status of Desaru, which was once a popular place for beach activities. Its popularity declined because of the long travel time.

Malaysia Tourist Guide Association president Jimmy Leong said Desaru's tourism was severely affected by poor road conditions in the past.

He anticipated a steady growth of tourism activities in Desaru and adjacent areas with the completion of the highway, as well as the launching of the ferry service between the Tanjung Belungkor terminal in Kota Tinggi and Changi terminal in Singapore in April.

"The project will spur the growth in eco and agro-tourism sector."

Johor Lorry Operators Association vice-chairman Leow Hock Tiap said the highway would benefit transport operators travelling from the north to the south as they would have an alternative route to get to Pasir Gudang without having to bypass the city areas.

"This will alleviate congestion along the existing Pasir Gudang Highway.

"However, lorry operators in the south are not affected by the highway as they use an altogether different route to send their consignment."

GEMENCHEH: The construction of the 286km-long West Coast Highway linking Banting in Selangor and Changkat Jering in Perak will begin by December.

Works Minister Datuk Shaziman Abu Mansor said his ministry was in the final stages of completing the highway alignment works.

He added the highway, which was estimated to cost around RM6bil, would enhance connectivity and cut travelling time between the towns located along the stretch.

“We are making a study of the route alignment as the Perak government had asked that the highway be brought closer to the coastline.

”We need to avoid building the link on peat soil because of the request to build the highway close to the coast.

“In this case, elevated stretches may have to be built and this will increase costs,” he told reporters here on Saturday.

The West Coast Highway project was one of the six Public-Private Partnership initiatives announced by Datuk Seri Najib Razak to be carried out under the 10th Malaysia Plan on a build-operate-transfer basis. - Bernama

The 33km Latar expressway connects Kuala Lumpur, Petaling Jaya
and Shah Alam to towns in the north and west coast.

KUALA LUMPUR: KL-Kuala Selangor Expressway Bhd, concessionaire of the new RM958 million Latar Expressway, is promoting its new expressway as an alternative route for motorists making their way home for Hari Raya.

The 33km expressway is only a 18-minute drive from Kuala Lumpur via Templer's Park to the west coast town of Ijok in Kuala Selangor.

KL-Kuala Selangor Expressway Berhad chief executive officer Amran Amir said: "Latar Expressway will be a stress-free alternative as it offers motorists a faster and safer choice during the balik kampung rush.

"Those intending to reach coastal towns such as Kuala Selangor, Sekinchan, Sabak Bernam, Tanjung Karang, Teluk Intan, Lumut and Kuala Kurau should give Latar Expressway a try. And it's toll-free until Aug 31."

The expressway is deemed as the new gateway to the north.

"Those from Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya will find Latar Expressway a much welcomed route to connect to the north through the west coast," said Amran in a statement.

"Equally convenient, those from the west coast heading to the east coast can also take advantage of the Latar Expressway to get onto the KL Karak Highway and East Coast Expressway."

Drivers are advised to plan their journey and check their vehicle's road worthiness, observe speed limits, adopt a defensive driving attitude and have enough rest before embarking on their journey home.

The concessionaire also encourages drivers to take short breaks at the R&R along the expressway.

A HIGHWAY linking Kinrara, Serdang and Putrajaya with seven interchanges, is in the pipeline.

The 17km Serdang-Kinrara-Putrajaya Expressway (Skip) will have three main toll plazas and two on the ramps.

The highway, which starts near the Giant Hypermarket in BK 5a in Puchong, will pass by the Ayer Hitam Forest Reserve and head towards Taman Lestari Perdana. From this point, the highway will be split into two directions.

The first will go through Taman Putra Permai and eventually connect the South Klang Valley Expressway.

The second will connect Taman Universiti Indah and Sri Sedang and then link to the Besraya Highway.

Its concessionaire and the Malaysian Highway Authority briefed the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) last week.

MPSJ councillor Ng Sze Han said the council welcomed the project that would reduce traffic jam in Jalan Besar, Serdang, and part of Damansara-Puchong Highway (LDP) in front of the IOI Mall in Puchong.

“Motorists from the Sunway toll plaza on the LDP can get into Skip near the Giant Hypermarket in Puchong, to head towards Putrajaya and Cyberjaya.

“According to the traffic impact assessment, the highway will ease the congestion on the LDP in front of IOI Mall,” he said.

Also in the pipeline is the Kinrara Damansara Expressway, linking Kinrara and Pusat Bandar Damansara, which will further reduce congestion on the LDP.

He added that the Skip concessionaire presented three alignment options and the council would most likely choose the one which would least affect private properties, schools and religious sites.

“We have also voiced our concern regarding the stretch of Skip near the Ayer Hitam Forest Reserve.

“We requested them to minimise the impact on the ecology by going along the forest border,” he said.

Details on the concession period and toll fare are not available yet.

“The construction of the highway will start at the end of next year and is expected to be completed in 2016,” Ng said.

Any recent expressway openings?

There are 2 expressway openings recently namely E25 Kuala Lumpur - Kuala Selangor Expressway and certain stretch of E8 East Coast Expressway from Bukit Besi to Kuala Terengganu.

1 expressway expected to be completed before 2012 which is the E14 JB Eastern Dispersal Link.

There are quite a few new expressways going to start on construction later this year and next year. I'm excited with the recent news on the proposed expressways. :cheers:

E14 is still under construction hopefully it will finish before year end.

E26 is consist of 2 phases. The 1st phase has been completed for quite some time and the final phase has been successfully completed in the middle of last year. :)

Budget 2012: National Transformation Policy To Spur Nation Towards 2020

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 7 (Bernama) -- Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today tabled in the Dewan Rakyat the Budget 2012 proposals totalling RM232.8 billion, and announced that the government's transformation programmes would culminate into the National Transformation Policy (DTN) towards making Malaysia a united and progressive nation by 2020.

The prime minister said the DTN would be effective from 2011 to 2020.

Najib, who is also the finance minister, said that when he took over the leadership of the country in 2009, he started his administration with the guiding philosophy of "1Malaysia: People First, Performance Now".

This was followed up with the implementation of the Government Transformation Programme (GTP) and the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) and, lately, the Political Transformation Programme (PTP) to enable Malaysia to become a modern and progressive nation and, at the same time, a functional democracy, he said.

In the 2012 Budget, which he said was formulated with the theme "National Transformation Policy: Welfare for the Rakyat (People), Well-Being of the Nation", Najib outlined strategies to stimulate the economy and proposed inclusive programmes considerate of the people's well-being in tackling the rising cost of living.

The budget addresses the burdens of all strata of society, from the hardcore poor to taxi drivers, fishermen, senior citizens, Felda settlers, civil servants and pensioners, women and youths, to contractors and investors. Even members of parliament are set to enjoy new allowances and other benefits.

In his speech, which took two hours and 10 minutes to deliver, the prime minister expressed confidence that the sound economy and the measures to stimulate domestic economic activities were expected to spur economic growth of between five and six per cent next year.

He said private and public investments were expected to increase 15.9 per cent and seven per cent, respectively, supported by higher foreign direct investment and implementation of the ETP and Second Rolling Plan (RP2) projects under the 10th Malaysia Plan.

Budget 2012 allocates RM181.6 billion for operating expenditure and RM51.2 billion for development expenditure.

Najib said the federal government deficit in 2012 was expected to improve to 4.7 per cent of GDP compared with 5.4 per cent in 2011.

The total revenue of the federal government was expected to increase 1.9 per cent to RM186.9 billion in 2012 compared with RM183.4 billion in 2011, he said.

Najib said that the government would implement projects amounting to RM6 billion in 2012 through the Special Stimulus Package.

Budget 2012 focuses on five areas, namely accelerating investment; generating human capital excellence, creativity and innovation; rural transformation programme; strengthening the civil service; and easing inflation and enhancing the well-being of the "rakyat" (people).

To boost investment, the government would implement the Second Rolling Plan (RP2) of the 10th Malaysia Plan with an allocation of RM98.4 billion for 2012 and 2013, he said.

The main projects to be implemented under the RP2 are the Gemas-Johor Baharu double-tracking rail project; the Jabor-Kuala Terengganu stretch of the East Coast Expressway; the Banting-Taiping West Coast Expressway; the Segamat-Tangkak Expressway; the Central Spine Expressway; the Kota Marudu-Ranau Road; and redevelopment of the Sungai Besi Kuala Lumpur Air Base, he said.

Najib also said that Felda Global Ventures Holdings (FGVH) would be listed on Bursa Malaysia by mid-2012 to raise funds for the company to be a global conglomerate, and added that the listing would create another blue chip plantation company besides attracting international investors to Bursa Malaysia.

Felda settlers, he said, were expected to receive a windfall, with the amount to be announced before the listing.

To internalise innovation as a way of life, Najib announced 2012 as the year of the National Innovation Movement.

He also announced the abolition of school payments from next year, thus making education free in primary and secondary government schools for the first time in the nation's history.

Najib also announced the Rural Transformation Programme to transform the rural areas to attract private investments, create employment and economic activities as well as to provide opportunities for the younger generation to return and work in the rural areas.

For the civil service, the prime minister announced the extension of the compulsory retirement age from 58 to 60 years, besides proposing a salary increase of between seven and 13 per cent.

Civil servants will also receive a bonus of half-month salary with a minimum payment of RM500 and an assistance of RM500 to government pensioners plus an annual increment of two per cent for pensioners from 2013.

Najib also fulfilled his promise of looking into the people's grouses over rising prices of goods, especially food.

He said the government would undertake both short-term and long-term measures to address the problem, including stepping up the production of main food commodities such as rice, meat, vegetables and fruits.

Giving the assurance that subsidies would be continued, Najib said with a hint of sarcasm that some groups tried to promote the concept of a welfare state when the government had long implemented various programmes to safeguard the people's welfare.

"We congratulate them, as they only now realise this concept," he said.

Najib said Budget 2012 would continue with the tradition of placing the welfare of the rakyat (people) and the well-being of the nation "as our top priority".

"What is important is the creation of a brighter future for every Malaysian child, a future full of hope and prosperity, not fear or hatred," he said.

Najib said it was not only about unity in diversity or improving the public delivery system or restructuring the economy but included the Political Transformation Programme which would create a new path for Malaysia's next phase of development where differences of ideas will be celebrated and not lead to never-ending conflicts and where no individuals will be punished or sidelined for ideological differences.

"In an environment of global uncertainties, the strong support of the rakyat (people) is mandatory for us to become a developed and prosperous nation," he said.

GEMENCHEH: The construction of the 286km-long West Coast Highway linking Banting in Selangor and Changkat Jering in Perak will begin by December.

Works Minister Datuk Shaziman Abu Mansor said his ministry was in the final stages of completing the highway alignment works.

He added the highway, which was estimated to cost around RM6bil, would enhance connectivity and cut travelling time between the towns located along the stretch.

“We are making a study of the route alignment as the Perak government had asked that the highway be brought closer to the coastline.

”We need to avoid building the link on peat soil because of the request to build the highway close to the coast.

“In this case, elevated stretches may have to be built and this will increase costs,” he told reporters here on Saturday.

The West Coast Highway project was one of the six Public-Private Partnership initiatives announced by Datuk Seri Najib Razak to be carried out under the 10th Malaysia Plan on a build-operate-transfer basis. - Bernama

SHAH ALAM: The West Coast Highway, which is expected to cost RM6.5bil, will have a total of 16 tolls.

Selangor state executive councillor Datuk Dr Hasan Ali revealed during the state assembly Thursday that nine of the 16 tolls would be in Selangor.

He said the project would involve the acquisition of 77.801 acres of state land and 1,523.952 acres of private land.

Dr Hasan added that the highway was expected to cost RM3.54bil in the state alone.

Construction of the 286km-long highway, linking Banting in Selangor and Changkat Jering in Perak, is expected to begin by December.

The West Coast Highway project was one of the six public-private partnership initiatives announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to be carried out under the 10th Malaysia Plan on a build-operate-transfer basis.

GEORGE TOWN: Construction of the second Penang bridge is likely to be completed two months ahead of its projected November 2013 schedule.

Subject to weather conditions and other considerations, it was likely that work on the new bridge will achieve 70 per cent progress by the end of this year, Works Minister Datuk Seri Shaziman Abu Mansor said yesterday.

The bridge connecting Batu Kawan on Penang mainland and Batu Maung on the island will be the longest in Southeast Asia at 16.9km. Total estimated construction cost is RM4.5 billion.

"The dedication by the project contractors in seeing to the smooth running of the project may see it completed two months ahead of its scheduled completion," Shaziman told reporters after visiting the project site.

Work on the bridge, which will serve as the third link between the island and the mainland (after the ferry service and first Penang bridge) and set to provide better connectivity and accessibility to and from the island, began in November 2008.

It comprises a two-lane dual carriageway with shoulders and a dedicated motorcycle lane. Its design is depicted as a 375m cable-stayed bridge with a main span of 240m over the southern channel with a 30m height clearance.

The bridge is a joint-venture project between China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd and UEM Builders Bhd, with Jambatan Kedua Sdn Bhd (JKSB) appointed as the concession holder.

JKSB, which is wholly owned by the Minister of Finance Incorporated, is responsible for the construction, management, operation and maintenance of the bridge and has been given a 45-year concession for the project.
