Hello Amit,

Having read so much about Vijaydurg over the years, I would have loved to have joined your trips, but coming out 5,500 miles for a weekend might be a bit much.

More seriously, would you tell us more about the aims and objectives of your society.

It is obvious that there is an enormous of things of great interest to see along this coast. I travelled last month from Kochi to Kannur and back. I have collected a lot of copies if 17th, 18th and 19th Century maps and documents about these Forts, and I would love to be able to try to travel up from Mangalore to Mumbai another year.

The ship yard at Beypore.

As the roads are very difficult and crowded, I was wondering how easy it would be to charter a boat to travel up the coast. Or are there coastal ferries?

We saw numerous small boats along the coast, but presumably they only travel short distances to sea and back in most cases for fishing.
