Gibralter is home to Europe's only population of monkeys, the Barbary Macaque, http://nebuchadnezzar.interinter.net/gib/hpim1194.jpg The name Gibraltar, like so many others on southern Iberia, is from Arabic Jabal Ţāriq, meaning "mountain of Tariq". Yes, I stole that from Wikipedia :) http://nebuchadnezzar.interinter.net/gib/hpim0922.jpg :) Irish Blood English Heart January 13th, 2007, 11:23 PM God I never realised how tiny it is, it looks less than a square mile or habitable land. The Hunted January 14th, 2007, 02:37 AM It is small, but I enjoyed the week I spent there and there are at present quite a few new developments going up. My left arm got molested by one of those apes and believe me they are difficult to get rid off. urbane January 14th, 2007, 03:14 AM Any street-level pics of the town ? Jonesy55 January 14th, 2007, 06:07 PM I have a friend who works in Gibraltar and lives in La Linea, he cycles to work and has to show his passport and cycle across theairport runway to get into Gibraltar. I visited him a couple of years ago and Giraltar is small, it only takes 20-30 mins to walk from the border to the tip of the rock. |
