View Full Version : Which DT Tampa condo would you buy?
Urbanite January 10th, 2007, 04:37 AM which one one of the condos going up,excluding trump tower if it goes up,would you most want to live in or invest in?
second question, will any of the planned condos have a grocery store? (preferably a publix and not a healthfood store)
Jasonhouse January 10th, 2007, 05:02 AM One Bayshore is across the street from a Publix. That's as good as it gets until other projects can actually carry through with promises to bring retail to DT.
Plus sfaik, it's the only condo with units that have a view of DT (not from DT, like Skypoint and Trump will) which can never be blocked by another tower.

I would love to live in the Blu Channelside or The Place Phase 2. Both great looking projects and very good locations. Although the prices arejust a tad too high for me :D oh, I'm 16!
Blu Channelside had plans of grocary store, I believe a Publix. But the idea was shot down because the people of Harbor Island said that the grocery store will cause more traffic in the area, although they have 2 ways to get off the island. Another wonderful thing crushed by the Nimbies. :bash:
LuvHighrisers January 10th, 2007, 05:49 AM Towers at Channelside - close to hockey games, close to movies, & close to hooters...what more could one want?
Maxim98 January 10th, 2007, 06:26 AM No grocery for Grand Central? Am I crazy for thinking it was getting something?
FloridaFuture January 10th, 2007, 01:20 PM ^^Yea Grand Cnetral is getting a grocery store. Grand Central is nice because there will be a lot of people there and shops on the ground floor but it's a little isolated in Northern Channelside for the time being. You do have the trolley line though. I think the Towers at Channelside would be the best pick for now.
Tampa on the move. January 10th, 2007, 09:36 PM I believe Venu will be the class of all of our new condo's.. Trump will be so ritzy that I would not want to be around all of those high and mighty people..
So to me if I had the money Venu is my choice..
randommichael January 10th, 2007, 10:19 PM I'd love Venu...it would be a nice "commute" to work.
dmpeek77 January 10th, 2007, 10:54 PM VENU, I think they will have a great view of the bay on the southwestern side of the building. Also, it is close to the CBD and not far from Franklin. I think the building looks awesome as well, very cool design!
Maxim98 January 10th, 2007, 11:40 PM Venu.
Of UC or Complete projects, Place II.
John F January 11th, 2007, 12:31 AM I'd be seriously happy with Skypoint or perhaps Element (because Element is farther removed from Ashley).
The other projects are so high end, I can understand why people would chose them first but I'd be fine being in Skypoint or Element...
Jasonhouse January 11th, 2007, 12:51 AM I'm surprised how many of the 'skyscraper fans' here prefer a unit with a view of the bay or suburbia, not a view of the skyline.
which reminds me, I bet I would love the views from a BofA Tampa Heights condo which has a DT view.
Urbanite January 11th, 2007, 01:23 AM thanks for all the responses. I'll have to check out Venu. I haven't read much about that one...it would be nice to have a corner unit with two different views. I'd prefer to have a view of downtown but a water view would be nice if the condo was really close to the water.
FloridaFuture January 11th, 2007, 01:23 AM ^^That would be a nice view, and having the view is a bonus of course. Actually Skypoint and Element I would think would have some pretty nice views of the main cluster, especialy at night, right up close. They're very liveable locations at a lower price point.

I wouldn't mind a Venu view of DT and the bay (I'd prefer DT, though). Place is a great design, which I love. I'd love to face the city/filled in District, myself.
Element is a close second. Skylines views are important, not a sight of Gibtown....
FloridaFuture January 11th, 2007, 01:33 AM I'm also thinking an upper floor unit of Finergy would be nice. You get a view of the Port which can be interesting to watch, the growing Channelside skyline and the main cluster a little more the distance, plus it's be next to the Trolley line and Grand Central grocery store, when/if it gets one. The only bad thing would be those extremely loud horns the cruise ships give off when docking and departing.
multifamilyinvestor January 11th, 2007, 03:06 AM Nobody votes for the Plaza Harbour Island? Of the Condos under construction that would be my choice. Of Complete condos I would pick the Grandview any day of the week - with a nice boat slip on the Garrison Channel.
Maxim98 January 11th, 2007, 03:06 AM The horns aren't so bad. I've been working in Channelside for almost a year and they aren't so bothersome. They don't go off at obscene times of the day and I find them sort of interesting.
Maxim98 January 11th, 2007, 03:07 AM Perhaps you all are forgetting about the Plaza Harbor Island. Of the Condos under construction that would be my choice. Of Complete condos I would pick the Grandview any day of the week - with a nice boat slip on the Garrison Channel.
Harbor Island is indeed very nice.... but I've never liked Grandview.
VICARY January 11th, 2007, 04:37 AM I'm guessing there are some units in the Towers at Channelside that have nice views across Harbour and Davis Islands and Bayshore, as well as a view of the downtown skyline. Maybe you have to walk out on the patio to see it all, but they seem to have the right placement for good views. I think I'd like one of those units.
Wouldn't want the channel view, though....
I-275westcoastfl January 11th, 2007, 04:52 AM Im not much of a condo person but id take a decent townhouse development in DT Tampa.

A townhome in DT.
I-275westcoastfl January 11th, 2007, 05:08 AM ^^Well i was sayin id take one not if there were any, i dont know DT Tampa that well i dont go there much.

The problem with the Towers at Channelside though is that they will eventually be almost completely ringed by other tall buildings.

Actually the Novare Channelside project will have a couple of Townhomes in it. Right on the project's park too. :)
I-275westcoastfl January 11th, 2007, 09:39 PM ^^Any renders of that?
FloridaFuture January 11th, 2007, 11:10 PM ^^Just this, it's the building in the middle wit the setbacks and park, and the townhomes would be in front, facing East towards the skyline.

John F January 11th, 2007, 11:47 PM You know, regardless of where a condo sits -- there is NOTHING like watching a Florida Thunderstorm from a floor well above tree-level. I've had extended stays at Tampa General Hospital in the past and watching storms (against the skyline or just generally sweeping across the area) was always awesome... I expect those to be scary events for downtown residents at first until they get used to it (watching Lightning strike nearby while looking out a window that is 200 above the ground just has this intimidating characteristic ;) ).

This is what Channelside will look like after GC @ Kennedy and Ventana are complete with some other things in the background. Minus Novare's properties.
tampamobster21 January 12th, 2007, 02:41 AM Do the Place people still plan to do their 32-story tower on site or has it been mowed down?
FloridaFuture January 12th, 2007, 02:50 AM Yes, from what i heard Place Phase 2 is very much alive.
Also, I-275westcoastfl, here is a rough arial rendering of the Novare Channelside project showing how townhomes and park will be layed out. Looks like a very liveable project and being Novare it's probaly a good price point.:)

tampamobster21 January 12th, 2007, 02:53 AM So, the land for the park, who is the current owner? I know that this design for the park is not going to get built. Novare has said that they want to have imput from the residents of Channelside since this will be a public park.

I've watched a few storms come across the bay from the Tampa Club at the top of BofA Plaza. Its certainly a site to see.
Jasonhouse January 13th, 2007, 06:01 AM My favorite spot for a storm has always been the airport... though a building on rocky pointe called "the pointe" is awesome too.
I-275westcoastfl January 13th, 2007, 08:55 PM Driving on any of the big bridges gives good views of storms too.
AKBTampa January 15th, 2007, 02:14 AM Glad to see other people love a good thunderstorm, too.
As for DT/Channelside Condos I'd buy if I had the money. I always liked the look of the victory lofts. I actually looked at buying into skypoint, but i've never been one for saving or making money. Also Grand Central at Kennedy looks pretty good. I like modern!
chadhinkle January 15th, 2007, 07:23 AM i want to live in those across from the crusie ships.
multifamilyinvestor January 17th, 2007, 06:14 AM A townhome in DT.
There are quite a few townhomes on Harbour Island
John F January 18th, 2007, 05:43 AM ^^Along with more than a few who don't understand the concept of being a pedestrian and actually walking to Downtown as to driving (but that is another story)
