MANILA, Philippines — On International Volunteer Day for Economic and Social Development observed on December 5, the world celebrates the goodwill radiated throughout the human family by volunteers and the energies of peace and goodwill they bring to the heart of communities.

The event is an opportunity to give recognition to the billions of people around the world who give their time and talent to tackle various challenges, from education, child, and maternal healthcare, to environment change, to calamities, to deforestation, to campaigning for women’s rights, raising awareness of human rights, and many other issues and advocacies. As selfless workers, volunteers bring vision and inspiration as they undertake to lessen the pain brought by disasters and tragedies associated with poverty, pollution, disease, and conflict.

Each year, millions of professionals from a wide range of backgrounds who have a strong desire to experience “giving something back to another part of the world and to embark on a fresh challenge” volunteer to work together to tackle the root causes of povety. They work together and share skills and learning from different perspectives.

By working on sustainable solutions, volunteers have the satisfaction of having a lasting impression in contributing to fighting poverty and disadvantage. At the same time, volunteers gain new skills, witness fresh approaches to all sorts of situations, and acquire greater confidence to draw on in the future through understanding the difficulties others pass through and dedicating time to tackling them together.

Each of us can make a meaningful contribution to the lives of others through volunteer work, a powerful means of mobilizing all segments of society as active partners in building a better world. MABUHAY!

Saint Nicholas, the origin of Santa Claus or Father Christmas in Catholic tradition, is remembered Tuesday as the Church marks his feast day.

In many European nations, as well as in Canada and the United States, gift-giving traditions will be observed, patterned after the generous and thoughtful nature of Santa Claus. In the Philippines, gift-giving before Christmas Day has, over the years, become a norm as well.

Honored for many ages, St. Nicholas is one of few Catholic saints who had become a key figure of Christmas. As the generous gift-giver, children eagerly await his arrival at midnight on Christmas Eve every year. The Catholic Church also considers him as an Advent saint since his feast day falls during the Advent season.

Venerated as the patron of children, sailors, bakers, pawnbrokers, and voyagers, St. Nicholas draws hundreds of pilgrims, devotees, and tourists to shrine at the Basilica di San Nicola in Bari, Italy, on his feast day every year.

Many also gather at numerous churches dedicated to his memory in many parts of the world. The number of altars and churches are testimonials to his popularity and holiness.

“As a faithful follower of Christ, St. Nicholas’ life clearly reflected the way each one of us is called to show God’s love for others, especially to those in need. St. Nicholas helps us remember Christmas is a feast of love, hope, kindness, and generosity,” Church officials said.

St. Nicholas was born during the 3rd century in Patara, Lycia (Turkey).

President Benigno 'Noynoy' Aquino III signed Proclamation No. 288 declaring thursday, December 8, 2011 as a special non-working holiday in the whole province of Batangas. The purpose of this declaration is to give time for the people of Batangas to celebrate the 430th Foundation Day anniversary of the Province of Batangas.

Those employees who will be required to report on that day should receive additional salary premiums according to the law.

This proclamation was signed by Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa, Jr. in behalf of President Benigno Aquino III last November 9.

The purpose of the global celebration is to generate and reinforce worldwide awareness of the importance of international civil aviation in the social and economic development of states, and the role of ICAO in promoting the safety, efficiency, and regularity of international air transport.

The International Civil Aviation Organization works to achieve its vision of safe, secure, and sustainable development of civil aviation through cooperation among member states. Its objectives include the enhancement of global civil aviation safety and security, the minimization of the adverse effect of global civil aviation on the environment, the enhancement of the efficiency of aviation operations, and the strengthening laws governing international civil aviation.

The contribution of civil aviation in the progress of nations is immense. With massive improvements in civil aviation and air transport systems, planes now travel at much faster speed, going longer distances non-stop and carrying more people and cargo.

The Epson factory in located at the Lima Technology Center, Lipa, Batangas. It will be manufacturing 3LCD projectors and inkjet printers....

Gov. Vilma Santos Recto visibly enjoyed watching the revelry, and proudly played host to guests that included Kapuso, Kapamilya and kapatid stars. To prove her appreciation to the great effort and resources put in by all participating towns, the lady governor, through the Provincial Tourism Office, headed by Mr. Pancho Lardizabal, vowed to do much better in next year’s edition of Batangas’ foundation day.

Balayan is the first capital town and one of the oldest, prosperous and historical towns in the Batangas Province.

Part of it's beauty is its close affinity to history. The town was one of the first settlements in the Philippines, with existing records of local residents exchanging barter goods with Chinese traders dating back to the mid-14th century.

President Benigno S. Aquino III formally inaugurated the newest plant (Factory 2) of Epson Precision (Philippines) Inc., a manufacturing subsidiary of Seiko Epson Corporation (Epson), that will significantly increase Epson's 3LCD projector and inkjet printer manufacturing capacity.

Factory 2 is built adjacent to the existing plant (Factory 1) and is Epson Group's first projector manufacturing facility outside of China. Epson Precision (Philippines), which at present has a work force of more than 6,000 people in the country, is putting in around P4.5 billion in the new factory and is projecting to provide jobs to more than 2,000 qualified Filipinos by the end of 2012.

In his message, President Aquino expressed his appreciation to the Japanese executives of Epson for expanding their manufacturing operations in the country. "I have always said that the resourcefulness, the work ethic, and the ingenuity of Filipino workers are some of the biggest selling points in attracting investments in our country. And this factory, which will produce products for a world-renowned industry leader, is proof positive of the capabilities of our countrymen," the President said.

He added that the inauguration significantly contributes to the electronics industry which is one of the cornerstones of the country's economy. Last year, investments reached a record high US$2.3 billion and accounted for half of the country's exports from January to September 2011.

"What we're doing, after all, is about more than the economy...it is also about what Epson refers to as 'Exceeding Your Vision.' It is about encouraging more excellent companies such as EPPI to invest here, and to be confident in selling products labeled 'Made in the Philippines.' It is about reclaiming our national pride; it is about being proud of the country we will bequeath to our children," President Aquino said.

Visit of our Lady Governor Vilma Santos Recto to Ala Eh Festival Trade Fair Complex..(from WowBatangas)

All the best, in one trade fair. This line had been said over and over during the preparations and promotions and even after the Provincial Trade Fair 2011 has finally ended.

Twenty-seven municipalities of Batangas joined the Provincial Trade Fair which was held in Calaca. These municipalities showed the best products they can offer to everyone.

These LGUs showed their creativity in designing their booths which was part of the over-all criteria for judging.

And among the participating LGUs, three municipalities emerged as winners and they are:

Lemery – 1st Place
San Juan – 2nd Place
Lobo – 3rd Place

This Trade Fair was organized by the Provincial Government of Batangas
through the Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office in cooperation with the Municipal Government of Calaca, Batangas and the Department of Trade & Industry – Batangas.

Tanauan is not yet billionaire, only Lipa City and Batangas City. So far wala pang bill na nagppropose na maging cities and 4 na mauunlad na siyudad natin

Ung diversion papuntang PPA ay 6 lanes dre pero ung papuntang balagtas 4 lanes lang sana nga magredesign. Dami pang bakanteng lupa sa diversion dapat malagyan un nang mga bldg. Para naman gumanda kasi ang mga nandun lang ay ung mga store ng ibat ibang car dito sa pinas

Pero sana saka na lang iredesign pag Lone District na ang Batangas City kasi that will be very costly and will be unfair to the other LGU of the Second District. Nangyayari kasi yang issue na yan dito sa Fourth District (I think). Saka hindi pa naman ganung kagrabe ang traffic flow sa Diversion Road gaya ng Ayala Highway.

Batangas city opens public transportation terminal

BATANGAS CITY, Dec. 12 (PIA) ---The city government here held on December 8 a soft launching of the public transportation terminal that would serve as the loading and unloading area of buses from Metro Manila and public utility jeepneys (PUJs) plying from neighboring areas and city/municipalities within the province.

The one-hectare terminal boasts of facilities including rest rooms, waiting areas for passengers, parking areas for buses and PUJs, driveway and parking area for PUJs that would bring bus passengers to the city proper....

^^ napadaan me sa area na yun. it's not open yet babago pang nagaasphalt. from what i saw kanina although di me sure kasi medyo mabilis ang takbo ay napakaliit ng area for a grand terminal at saka open area lang siya i think. or talagang hindi pa tapos. at saka ang layo naman ng location mula dun sa rotonda if i'm not wrong again andun siya sa pagitan ng toyota at nung gas station. hindi siya accessible tapos wala pang mga establishments.ang napansin ko kanina sa may rotunda ay yung bagong building na napakaganda tapos may mga palm tree na napakataas sa harapan yun pala ay barangay hall lang. tapos sa gilid nun nakapila ang iba't ibang bus since no loading at unloading na sa gilid ng kalsada. diversion road nga ba tawag dun mula sa flyover papuntang star? along that road ang mga noteable na nakita ko honda, mazda, toyota, wilcon tapos may isa pang ginagawa na malaki din na hardware store. at napakadaming lubak. sa balagtas naman i wonder how long sm hypermarket will survive dun, i've never been inside but everytime kami napapadaan dun ay mapapansin mo ang almost empty parking lot. buti pa sa kumintang asenso dami ng bangko like bdo, bpi, landbank kulang nalang ay jolibee at parang bayan na din. sige yun nalang po yun lang mga napansin ko kanina hehe.

Sa diversion kasi dami pang ibang bakanteng lote at nagsisimula pa lang ang pag emerge nito. Malapit sa wilcon ang itinatayong 5 storey medical center kaya maaaring pagsimulan ito ng sunod sunod na establishment. About sm hypermarket hindi kasi gaano kaganda ang place pero in time na magkasunod sunod na ang mga projects tiyak na boom ang industry dun. Dati kasing makro yun.

Calatagan, Batangas celebrating 100 years

This December 2011 marks the centennial anniversary of the Municipality of Calatagan, Batangas. It was formerly titled as the Forbes Park of the South, because of the rich families who owns their estates here not minding the bad road condition before, anyway they have their helipads for their helicopters to land on.

I miss my childhood in Calatagan, Happy Centennial to Calatagan..

Dun lang tayo natalo ng Lipa, besides ang ganda n sa lipa ang luwang ng kalsada, 8 lanes ha, cosmopolitan ang dating parang manila. at ang daming coffee shops, aside from starbucks, may figaro at coffee bean na din dun. bukod p s homegrown brands nila like cafe de lipa, cafe 78, candlelight cafe etc. at ang lamig ng klima. i like lipa really. nakabili n kami ng lote dun.

there is no other avenue in Batangas province like Ayala Highway in Lipa City, ang lawak four lanes, para kang nsa quezon City. Tyak magsusulputan lalo establishments dun. ang dumami nga coffess shops, at yung central bbq grille, grabe ang laki, dinadayo talaga. malakas daw yun branches nila s makati, angeles, at paranaque, etc. Sana may malawak din na roads s Batangas City to make it look more like a city. Ang diversion road kasi di p naman ganun ka busy, besides four lanes lang sya.

Only nine days before Christmas. Time to finalize your noche buena menu, wrap those gifts and finish your Christmas shopping. With the days getting colder, Christmas is almost here. And that means, it’s time for ‘Simbang Gabi’. The age-old ‘Simbang Gabi’, or Misa de Gallo, starts today at dawn as millions of Filipino Catholics go to mass for the nine-day Christmas novena.

Actually, the ‘Simbang Gabi’ started last night in some areas where churches hold anticipated ‘Simbang Gabi’ masses. In our place, the anticipated mass starts at 9PM while the regular ‘Simbang Gabi’ mass is at 4:00 AM.

The tradition started during the Spanish rule in the Philippines. For Christmas, and other holy days of obligation, Catholics would attend nine-day novenas in the evening. However, priests would notice that the locals would be too tired to sit through the mass after a long day working in the fields, as most of the Filipinos at the time were farmers. The solution was to hold the nine-day novena mass in the mornings – very early in the morning – just before the farmers would to the their fields to work.

Thus was born the ‘Misa de Gallo’ tradition or, literally translated, ‘rooster mass,’ meaning the novenas were held even before the roosters crowed.

Aside from attending mass, part of ‘Simbang Gabi’ experience is the food associated with the tradition – bibingka, puto bumbong, suman, puto at kutsinta, salabat, tsokolate, kape and other Filipino food eaten after the mass. ‘Simbang Gabi’ will not be complete without these.

Vice President Jejomar C. Binay on Monday appealed for aid for victims of flashfloods brought about by Typhoon Sendong in Cagayan de Oro (CDO) City and Iligan City.

Binay said any kind of relief assistance would greatly help the victims.

“Our kababayans in CDO and Iligan are in dire need of our help. Donations, whether in cash or in kind, would go a long way towards easing their suffering,” he said.

Binay said that Christmas is the season of giving and hoped that the spirit of the holiday season “touch would touch generous hearts to help those in need.”..

yes indeed. ang laki pa ng lot sa harap ng sm, pwede pang tayuan ng another mall, or perhaps bpo centers, to create more jobs for batanguenos. kaya to ensure na tuloy tuloy ang business boom sa area, dapat smooth ang flow ng traffic. a diversion road would be necessary in the near future. sana the city or provincial govmnt is looking into that. :)

Apart for that, Batangas city government should focus on urban planning and implement laws, policies and ordinances to prevent disasters in the future. We should Learn the lesson of Typhoon Sendong Disasters... and learn disaster preparedness lessons from Japan as we need to reduce the risks of disasters before they happen....

Here are my suggestions..

1. URBAN PLANNING
2. MAJOR INFRASTRUCTURE LIKE REPLACING AGING CALUMPANG BRIDGE
3. Alternative route to avoid traffic congestion
3. Overhaul the entire drainage system
4. Effective greening around Batangas city to serve as natural watershed
5. Imposing total log ban for at least 10 years in Batangas
6. Effective Long-term disaster preparedness measures in low-lying flood prone areas..
7. Increasing earthquake awareness and preparedness

Townsfolk rejoice freeze of plan to destroy town plaza

SAN JOSE, Batangas—Residents here were rejoicing after officials decided to freeze plans to build a new municipal building at the center of this town’s heritage plaza.

Gracia Ona, former chair of the San Jose historical committee, said she was “very happy to learn about the decision” to spare the old plaza.

“The Municipal Development Council (MDC) is shelving the plan to put up a new municipal building for now,” said Municipal Administrator Constantino Briones in an interview on Monday.

The MDC plan to build a P60-million building in front of the old municipal hall to accommodate more offices for the growing local bureaucracy had generated opposition, especially from longtime residents keen on preserving the town’s heritage....

Epson completes factory in Lipa

Epson Precision Philippines Inc. (EPPI) held a ceremony recently to celebrate the opening of a new US$110 million factory (“Factory 2”) in the city of Lipa, in Batangas province.

The new factory is the largest expansion in Epson Precision (Philippines) Inc’s history and will significantly increase Epson’s 3LCD projector and inkjet printer manufacturing capacity. This expansion is also expected to create 2,000 more jobs and boost the Lipa economy.

The 303-meter underground tunnel that passes through the Puerto Azul resort in Nasugbu, Batangas and connects to Ternate, Cavite now goes all the way through after the last pieces of solid rock were blasted away.

Projected completion of the tunnel is in April 2012 according to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange on Monday, the resort’s developer, Boulevard Holdings Inc. (BHI) said they held the final blasting ceremony last November 29 and had several motor vehicles pass through the whole length of the country’s longest highway underground tunnel.

BHI said the tunnel will reduce Manila-Batangas travel time from 4 hours to 1 hour and 15 minutes and will be a boost for tourism and farm trade in the surrounding locales....

pag hindi pa din nagfile ng cityhood ang mga congressmen natin tatambak ang mga towns sa batangas para maging city baka hindi lang maging apat baka madagdagan pa yan. 12 towns na ng batangas ang may 100 million ang kita for sure ang dami ng mga investors pag nagkataon at pag ang lemery pa ang mas nauna dyan laking ganda ng western part ng batangas kaya kelangan magfile na mga congressmen natin.haha

yes indeed. ang laki pa ng lot sa harap ng sm, pwede pang tayuan ng another mall, or perhaps bpo centers, to create more jobs for batanguenos. kaya to ensure na tuloy tuloy ang business boom sa area, dapat smooth ang flow ng traffic. a diversion road would be necessary in the near future. sana the city or provincial govmnt is looking into that. :)

Ang ganda ng ayala highway na lipa, malawak. nagttrapik din pero di nagtatagal kasi malawak, smooth driving. you can easily get from one mall (robinsons) to another (sm), or hop from one coffee shop (starbucks or cafe de lipa) to another (figaro or coffee bean) and even go beyond ayala highway to marawoy and sip coffee at (candlelight). Sana maging city na ang Bauan, para magkaron din ng magagandang establishments at malawak na kalsada. Sto. Tomas, mauuna pa ata maging city. May malawak na highway na sila at very progressive ang area na yun , diversion going to San Pablo. Batangas Province, really so progressive, all here, so near.

I agree, the government should focus on developing this route to attract more ships with direct service internationally, to lessen travel time in southern part of the country and to decongest Manila ports….

I agree, road widening project will not only speed up travel but will also attract investment opportunities...dapat meron na rin tayong 2020 master plan framework para paghandaan ang kaunlaran ng Batangas katulad ng Singapore... we should have an effective urban planning for building the necessary road widening and other advanced and efficient infrastructures to attract more world class investments...we need to do a little more research on How did Singapore manage to grow into a prosperous port city ... Some even attribute there's prosperity to the geography with good urban planning... like Batangas, singapore is also hosting of Shell’s largest oil and petrochemicals manufacturing centre in Asia Pacific...

MANILA, Philippines – Around 10,000 to 15,000 passengers daily are expected to flock to the Batangas port this Christmas season, the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) said.

The PPA said that on normal days, they would usually record about 4,000 to 5000 passengers in one day.

Christmas after Typhoon Sendong Tragedy

Although I might not have been personally slammed by the terrible devastation of recent disasters, many of us have been moved to help in the disaster relief efforts. It is only 1 day before Christmas and it is such a saddest moment to know that they can never have a happy celebration.
Praying to the families of all those Who Have Lost a Loved Ones, give comfort and peace. And to those who must now wait for their loved ones to be found amidst the devastation, grant patience, peace, and hope.

Beyond the initial problems surrounding thousands of people living on the streets and evacuations, typhoon victims now face another factor: Diseases could soon set in if not enough effort is made to secure potable water and healthy food.

Most immediately in OUR GOVERNMENT, more HELP are needed, which will in turn open doors for Gospel opportunities.

Please attempt to do more this Christmas to bring hope to the victims of this tragedy, a great Christmas gift could be to just give them a sincere prayer would certainly move Him to make wonders for those in areas in the Visayas and Mindanao affected by Typhoon Sendong...

It's a Sad Christmas for Typhoon Victims

While the President attending PSG party as show of gratitude to security men and enjoying Valerie Concepcion's performance, the rest of the affected areas population mourned, as did the fact the storm came like a thief in the night and Most of the victims who died were sleeping. It made landfall on the midst of Christmas day preparation were people busy in final gift buying and wrapping, travel preparations, cleaning, meal preparations, parties and events and most of our kababayan in the South were not aware of the Typhoon .

Now, for more than thousand people who spend their Christmas in evacuation centers and streets after their homes were leveled in the typhoon Sendong Tragedy, celebrated a sad Christmas in congested evacuation centers… Most children and families slept early. They didn't wait for Christmas Eve anymore and some have their 'Noche Buena' given by concerned citizens. Though they are not able to celebrate the traditional Filipino Christmas, many remain grateful that they're alive.

A man says on the interviewed by known network "how can we celebrate Christmas when we're living in bad conditions under." A girl says she lost her mother and father, a woman lost her husband and children without parents roam the street each waiting for a change in fortune since last Christmas feel that celebrating this NEW YEAR is not a possibility.

These people call on our Government for real solutions for their situation. They are aware that the government is spending more than million on Noche Buena for the population, but they cry that the gesture is not an effective step in solving their conditions short term or long term.

Other news revealed that some gift distributions on Noche Buena did not reach everyone that needed the cheer. Typhoon Sendong Victims in other areas with no place to go say they were told that they could not receive the gifts. For other victims the gift of health, a decent temporary housing will be used to house people and reparations has not been fought for by our government…..

A Bishop blames the government for permitting illegal logging, mining for flash floods..

And the finger-pointing has begun. PAGASA (Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration) claims their storm-warning bulletins were disregarded by local officials. Local officials on the other hand complain that they were never told how devastating typhoon Sendong really was.

While the President didn’t visit flood victims sooner, some of the victims did not mind if the President visited or not. “He cannot help all the people but hoping Mr. Aquino would distribute Media Noche for traditional new year feast.

Despite Millions of dollars foreign aid pouring in as humanitarian relief and a new government that has promised change from past regimes of corruption, some opposition congressman only added to the overall sentiment that after millions of donations not much has been done towards helping families in evacuation centers…
Meanwhile, the Congressman from CDO Says Pnoy creates only a task force to monitoring and not a reconstruction Commission program for Sendong Victims

But Hope lingers despite sad Christmas for Sendong victims as one flood victim saying “We have a sad Christmas this year, but we remain hopeful that we will recover, …

OMG! Celebrities gave time to help Sendong victims on Christmas day… I don't mind their presence at all. I raise the question, what is their motive? Is it to make a contribution? Is their visit a way to build their resume? But… I don't think it matters to people that devastated if the person providing the medicine, food, or shelter shows off themselves doing it.

To the same extent, Governor Vi thanks to her supporters for her Sendong Donation Drive as she stated
“This is the best time we can share the real meaning of Christmas ….

BATANGAS, Philippines – The city of Lipa almost celebrated Christmas in the dark when Lipa City Mayor Maynard Sabili ordered the closure of the Batangas II Electric Cooperative, Inc. (Batelec 2) for allegedly failing to secure a business permit and for illegally collecting fees from its members.

Supporters of Federico are now massing outside the municipal hall to block the implementation of the Comelec order.

Federico, in a phone interview, said he would not step down and would give an official statement at 11 a.m.Tuesday from his office...

South Luzon Thermal Energy Corp., the joint venture between Trans-Asia Oil and Energy Development Corp. and Ayala-led AC Energy Holdings Inc., is set to start construction of its 135-megawatt coal facility next year.
Trans-Asia president Francisco L. Viray confirmed plans to finally proceed with the construction of the power plant in Batangas after the company secured an environmental clearance certificate (ECC) for the facility.
The ECC certifies that a project has complied with government requirements and will not cause significant negative impact on the environment.

(Updated 8:54 p.m.) Under Republic Act (RA) 7183 or the law on pyrotechnic devices, persons caught manufacturing, selling, distributing and purchasing these items may be imprisoned from six months to a year, and may be slapped with a fine from P20,000 to P30,000. Below is a list of the firecrackers prohibited for sale and manufacture in the country by the Department of Health and the Department of Trade and Industry.

Watusi or the “dancing firecracker.” It was initially allowed for sale and manufacture under RA 7183, but was eventually banned because it causes poisoning when ingested, especially among children.

Piccolo – This firecracker has been the leading cause of firecracker-related injuries since 2007. The Department of Health banned it in 2007 because it can explode on the hands, and may cause death when ingested.

Super Lolo and Atomic Big Triangulo – two firecrackers specifically mentioned in RA 7183. Mother Rockets – firecracker with a stick designed as a propellant upon lighting the wick.

Lolo Thunder – a powerful firecracker twice the size of a Five Star. Pillbox – a firecracker that causes a series of sparks when lit.

Boga – traditional canon made from PVC pipe using denatured alcohol as explosive ingredient.

Big Judah’s belt – a string of firecrackers consisting of smaller firecrackers that number up to a hundred, and culminating in a larger and more powerful firecracker.

Big Bawang – a firecracker packed in cardboard tied around with abaca strings, giving it the shape of a large garlic. Kwiton – aerial firecracker which explodes several times when lit.

Goodbye Philippines – giant triangle-shaped firecracker which packs a powerful explosion.

Kabasi – a triangle-sized explosive twice the size of a Pla-pla.

Other banned firecrackers include

“Atomic Bomb,”
Five Star,
Pla-pla,
Og,
Giant Whistle Bomb,
and unlabelled firecrackers.

Meanwhile, RA 7183 allows the following firecrackers and fireworks to be sold in the country:

Baby Rocket — Assembled with a stick that helps propels the contraption to fly a few meters before exploding. The firecracker is about 1-½ inches long by 3/8 inch in diameter with the stick about a foot in length.

Bawang — Larger than a Triangulo and with 1/3 teaspoon of powder packed in cardboard, it is tied with abaca string and wrapped in the shape of garlic.

Small Triangulo — Triangle shaped with powder less than the Bawang and usually wrapped in brown paper measuring ¾ inch at its longest side.

Pulling of strings — An inch-long less than ¼ of an inch in diameter with strings on each end that when pulled cause the firecracker to explode.

Paper caps — Minute amounts of black powder spread in thin strips of paper on a small sheet and used in children's toy guns.

El Diablo or Labintador — Tubular shaped, about 1-¼ inches long and less than ¼ inch in diameter with a wick.

Judah's Belt — A string of either Diablos or small Triangulos numbering up to a hundred or so and culminating in a large firecracker — usually a Bawang.

Sky Rocket or Kwitis — A large Baby Rocket designed to fly up to 40 to 50 feet in the air before it explodes.

Sparklers — Black powder coated on a piece of wire or wrapped in a paper tube designed to light up and glow after igniting.

Luces — Any of several kinds of Sparklers.

Fountain — Cone-shaped sparkler, which is lighted on the ground and designed to create, sparks of various colors and intermittent lights when ignited.

Jumbo regular and special — Similar to a "Fountain" but bigger in size. Mabuhay — A bundle usually of a dozen Sparklers.

Roman Candle — A kind of Sparkler also similar to a "Fountain" but shaped like a big candle.

Trompillo — A pyrotechnic device usually fastened at the center and designed to spin first clockwise and then counter-clockwise and gives off various light colors when ignited.

Airwolf — A kind of Sky Rocket shaped like an airplane with a propeller to rise about 40 or 50 feet and emits various lights while in the air.

Whistle Bomb — Any firecracker or pyrotechnic designed to emit a whistle-like sound before exploding. Others are designed simply to whistle without exploding.

Butterfly — A light emitting butterfly-shaped pyrotechnic that floats above the ground.

Although, Lipa city has more infrastructures (Wide road very accessible) and better malls, Batangas is still more progressive, it leads in development and economy compared to Lipa….

What I mean is, which city is more progressive, not which city government or city hall is richer. The city which includes the people and their standard of living within their city. Lipa hosts light industries and its area is smaller than Batangas, hence a smaller IRA. Being richer doesn't necessarily mean more progressive. Let us qualify, you said Lipa has more amenities of a city with its better malls and wider roads. Hence Lipa, the city, can have more, or enjoy better life, even if its city hall have less funds or assets than the city hall of Batangas. Data shows Lipa has more retail establishments, it has more businessmen, and it has more locally based businesses like feedmills, that all refects dynamic local economy. Well, kabayan, there’s a variety of measuring the Progress or the Economic output which are used in economics to estimate total economic activity in a city, town or country including gross domestic product (GDP).....

Lahat yan ay kailangan ng total income ng LGU para ma compute ang PROGRESS ng isang bayan o city….All are specially concerned with counting the total amount of income of LGU within some "boundary".

So You need to measure how much output, spending and income has been generated in a given time period they use in LGU income accounts to compute the progress of the city.:)

MANILA, Philippines - Indonesia's Citra group said on Wednesday it and Philippine conglomerate San Miguel Corp. are studying a possible $57 million investment in the second phase of a tollway project south of Manila.

The announcement came just weeks after San Miguel said it would buy 46% of Atlantic Aurum Inc., the local unit of Citra group, which controls and operates Manila's elevated tollway connecting the capital to southern provinces.

Citra said in a statement it was jointly studying with San Miguel Holdings Corp., a wholly-owned unit of the San Miguel group, a proposal from the operator of Star Tollway to upgrade and expand a 42-kilometer toll road in Batangas province south of the capital.

The study is expected to be completed in 30 to 45 days.

"We were invited by Star and we are currently studying to invest in Phase 2 of the Star Tollway project, which will widen the existing two lanes to four lanes from Lipa to Batangas City," Citra's president, Shadik Wahono, said in the statement.

Target groundbreaking was middle of 2012, with the project expected to be completed in 24 months at a cost of P2.5 billion ($57 million), Citra said....

MANILA, Philippines — The days following the Solemnity of the Birth of our Lord Jesus Christ are filled with commemorations of saints. This is the Church’s way of saying that the birth of Jesus has brought not only joy to the world but an opportunity to be united with God in heaven. The birth of Jesus signals the beginning of the fruition of God’s salvation in Jesus.

Today, the Church remembers the massacre of the infants in Bethlehem. In the New Testament, Matthew gives us a narrative of this event that happened a few days after Mary’s giving birth to Jesus. It is said that Herod “the Great,” king of Judea at that time, was so unpopular with his people because of his ties with the Romans and his indifference to Judaism. He was insecure and fearful of any threat to dethrone him. He was capable of extreme brutality – he killed his wife, his brother, and his sister’s two husbands, to name only a few.

The story of the massacre in Matthew’s Gospel (2:1-18) begins with the arrival of the astrologers from the east asking about the whereabouts of “the newborn King of the Jews,” whose star they had seen. They were told that the Jewish Scriptures had named Bethlehem as the place where the Messiah would be born. Herod was greatly troubled. He told them to report back to him so that he could also “do Him homage.” They found Jesus, offered Him their gifts, and after being warned by an angel, avoided Herod on their way back to their own places.

Herod became anxious and “ordered the massacre of all the infants in Bethlehem and its vicinity two years old and under.” The horror of the massacre and the devastation of the mothers and fathers led the evangelist Matthew to borrow the words of the prophet Jeremiah: “A voice was heard in Ramah, sobbing and loud lamentation; Rachel weeping for her children…” (Matthew 2:18). Rachel was the wife of Jacob who later was named Israel. Jesus was spared because the angel appeared to Joseph in a dream to bring Mary and Jesus to Egypt.

Today, we remember the innocent victims of the massacre of the infants in Bethlehem and in neighboring places as we also vow to stop all forms of inhumanity today. May this feast remind us of the value of human life. In our world today, because of the greed of many, modern forms of “massacre” are taking place. Life is God’s gift and we must treasure it and uphold its dignity at all times.

yup.. we bought lots at the new subdivisions in both cities. ok nman kasi mga malalaking kumpanya ang developers. hope mabilis talaga pagakyat prices. nakakatuwa lng na ang mga big developers from manila pinapasok na ang ating probinsya. so malaki talaga ang potensyal. I am just a bit sad, naudlot dati pa ang pgtatayo ng isang fastfood outlet dito s amin s ibaan. mas pinupuno nila ng outlets ang batangas at lipa at iba mlalaking bayan. sana makasama s pagunlad ng province natin ang Ibaan.

Well kabayan, sobrang laki naman talaga ng potential ng Ibaan lalo na't pinaggigitnaan ito ng two the most progressive cities of the country (Batangas and Lipa)and one of the most progressive/populous municipality of the province (Rosario)... But that potential could become disadvantage kung hindi iboboost nang maayos... Being connected geographically with those progressive LGU is already an edge ang kulang na lang eh yung proper action/strategy kung paano nila gagamitin yung edge na yun..

Ang pinakamagandang paraan ng paglaban sa sunog ay ang pagtiyak na hindi takaw aksidente ang ating bahay at mga kasangkapan. Inspeksyonin ang lahat ng mga appliances sa bahay at itanong:

Ang mga kasangkapan ba ay nasa maganda pang kundisyon? At hindi sira ang mga kable? Walang ngat-ngat ng anumang hayop o sira?
Masyado bang madami ang nakasaksak na kasangkapan sa mga saksakan ng kuryente? TV? Radyo? Ref?
Masyado bang puno ang saksakan sa extension cord?
Tingnan kung mayroong mga faulty wiring o maling pagkakakabit ng mga kurdon o mga linya ng kuryente sa bahay. Kung mayroon siguraduhing ipaayos ito sa isang electrician.
Kung mayroong mga sira sa kasangkapan, palitan o ipaayos ang mga ito.
Huwag maglagay ng mga kuron sa ilalim ng basahan.

Siguraduhing hindi naaabot ng mga kasangkapan ang kurtina, bedsheet, o kumot, lalo na ng electric fan para maiwasan ang aksidente. Ilayo rin ang mga dyaryo, magasin, o mga bagay na madaling masunog sa mga appliances. Huwag hayaan na gumamit ng mga kasangkapang panluto ang mga bata ng magisa. San Pascual- LGU allots P122- M for education, aims for 100% literacy rate

Vice President Jejomar C. Binay on Friday awarded a wheelchair to one of the victims of Typhoon Sendong in Sibulan, Negros Oriental. Binay visited different towns and cities in Negros Oriental to distribute 10,500 bags of relief goods and 800 blankets to those affected by the typhoon.

Vice President Jejomar C. Binay flew to Negros Oriental early Friday and distributed relief goods to families affected by typhoon Sendong.

The Vice President visited the cities of Dumaguete and Tanjay along with the towns of Amlan, Sibulan and Valencia to hand out goods and check on the victims.

Binay said he went to Negros because he wanted to ensure that those affected by floods caused by Sendong would celebrate Christmas with dignity....

Rizal, the National Hero of the Philippines was executed at the Bagumbayan (now Luneta Park) for advocating reforms in the Philippines through his writings, especially his novels "Noli Me Tangere" (Touch Me Not) and El Filibusterismo (The Reign of Greed)

but we all must remember where we were on that fateful day of Sendong Tragedy….and the heroes of this Calamity….

This recent typhoon Sendong, the most devastating storm to hit the Philippines in 2011, taking more than a thousand of lives and leaving behind unimaginable destruction. But while this tragedy has destroyed homes and lives, this calamity also created heroes. Everyday men, women and even children risked their lives to save others, donated aid when they had little to give and helped rebuild their communities from scratch….

There was someone gave his life for his neighbors and many children are alive today because their parents instinctively acted as shields during the catastrophic typhoon…. And there was somebody from the affected areas who were taken everything by typhoon Sendong….

That fateful day, somebody lost their granddaughter, somebody lost their children, somebody lost their parents and siblings, somebody lost their sisters and brothers, and lost their loved ones and all lost their homes. Everything was gone except for their indomitable spirits.

There were several attempts to answer that before and after this Day(December 30 as a national day of mourning for Rizal), ranging from emulating our national hero to saving and to rescuing alive the typhoon survivors who were floating at ILIGAN BAY… and even there were Hero Azkal Dogs, have done their share in saving the lives of their masters during the rampaging floodwater that hit low lying villages also in this City…

Like Rizal who gave his life, they were also called to offer their life for their loved ones, neighbors, friends and countrymen…..

MANILA -- A Roman Catholic prelate urged the faithful to welcome 2012 in silence rather than spending on fireworks.

Lipa, Batangas Archbishop Ramon Arguelles said Filipinos should silently pray to have a better year.

“At 12 midnight, all must pray before the Blessed Sacrament,” he said.

He said not having the usual fireworks or loud noises in celebrating the New Year would mean showing solidarity to victims of Tropical Storm “Sendong” in Cagayan de Oro, Iligan and in Northern Mindanao.

“We must be in solidarity with those who lost everything,” Arguelles added.

The bishop noted that making noise does not drive away evil spirits but attracts it more.

“Noise does not drive the devil away. The devil thrives in noise,” Arguelles said.

On the other hand, he said, “God speaks and acts in silence.”

For his part, Caloocan Bishop Deogracias Iniguez called on the faithful not to use firecrackers to celebrate the New Year.

He urged them to just clap their hands if they want to create noise or just sing.

Earlier, Iniguez asked the public to just donate their money to the victims of Sendong instead of buying firecrackers.

Batangas province has lived up to its billing as one of the country’s richest province after it ranked number 6 among local government units in terms of revenue collection for the 1st semester this year.

Based on a report of the Bureau of Internal Revenue, Batangas province posted the biggest growth revenue collection among the 5 provinces in CALABARZON.

Batangas province registered a total collection of P 2.274 billion followed by Bulacan, which managed to post a collection of 2.106 billion…. Behind only Pampanga with 2.919 billion..

Indeed, this year has been a challenging one for our country. But we have also seen the strength and endurance of Filipino -- in our country that have refused to give up; in communities that have persevered through hard devastating times; and, above all, the great spirit of Filipino as amazing how faith and “bayanihan” could work wonders and miracles, whether it’s helping in a calamity or rebuilding a community. Ordinary citizens as first responders rushed into danger to save others. Ordinary Filipinos came together, gather help for Sendong victims and volunteers lined up to give blood to Red Cross and drove across the country to lend a hand. Ordinary Filipinos donated their little savings while the wealthy Communities, faith groups , Media network and businesses collected food and clothing. We were united, as Filipino and nothing is impossible if we would put our faith in our hearts to help others.

Finally our government through DSWD wants to do something to help and now working on the affected areas and more collecting relief goods as well as cash contributions to be sent to the devastated areas. Encouraging everyone to unite in prayer and assistance for all typhoon victims….

While the victims of devastating typhoon refuse to give up hope, volunteers and rescuers say they are continuing to search for survivors even on new year’s day…
