But before that let me define a medical center. Per PMA and DOH standard, a medical center is a tertiary hospital, with complete and modern medical equipment and facilities, with competent pool of doctors and consultant, with 75 or more bed capacity. By being tertiarty, it is an equivalent of a "university" status or level among schools. We have to define it since there are many hospitals in our province, but most of them are considered secondary hospitals, including lyin-ins, clinics and the like. To date, there are 14 medical centers in our province, with 5 in Lipa, 3 in Batangas (soon to be 4), 2 in Tanauan, 1 in Lemery, 1 in
Sto. Tomas and 1 in San Jose and another 1 in Taal. Here's the list:

COFFEE farmers in Luzon can now gain better access to the latest coffee farming techniques and robusta seedlings as Nestlé Philippines Inc. (NPI) launched its newly completed Nestlé Lipa Integrated Commercial Center (Nestlé LICC) last August 3 in Lipa, Batangas City.

Leading the opening were Nestlé SA Executive Vice President for Operations and Globe, José Lopez; Nestec Ltd. Corporate Head of Agriculture, Hans Joehr; and NPI Chair and Chief Executive John Martin Miller.

Also present were NPI key executives, the President of the Department of Agriculture-Philippine Agricultural Development and Commercial Corporation (DA-PADCC) and National Focal Person for the DA-DAR-DENR National Convergence Initiative for Sustainable Rural Development (NCI), Mariz Agbon, and a delegation of local coffee farmers from the Calabarzon area.

The Nestlé LICC is only the second of its kind the Philippines, the first being the Nestlé Experimental and Demonstration Farm (NEDF) in Tagum City, Davao del Norte.

Similar to NEDF in Tagum, this five-hectare, P25-million facility will serve as a one-stop shop for coffee farmers. It will house a Robusta seedlings production nursery, a local R&D center for new coffee selections, training and techno-demo center, a buying station and a composting facility for organic fertilizer.

“We intend to replicate the success of our first Nestlé Experimental and Demonstration Farm in Tagum, Davao, which has helped farmers mostly within the Mindanao region to set-up and to sustain their coffee farms,” said Arthur Baria, agriculture head of NPI.

“The NEDF in Batangas has the capacity to produce 500,000 seedlings over the next year but can accommodate as much as 1,000,000 seedlings over time. It is also key to further promoting our Nestlé Better Farming Practices which adhere to the principles of the Sustainable Agricultural Initiative (SAI) and the 4C (Common Code for the Coffee Community),” he added.

Regular training programs that will be provided by the Nestlé LICC include Coffee Technology Training for new farmers, Coffee Specialist Training for large-scale coffee plantation personnel and Department of Agriculture technicians, and on-the-job training that focuses on the end-to-end technology of coffee growing.

Asked about the possible impact of the Nestlé LICC, Jun Belamide, a local farmer from Silang, Cavite, acknowledged the support that the center will provide.

“Malaking tulong. Maitataguyod naming ulit yung (industriya) kape sa pamamagitan ng makabagong teknolohiya ng pagpupunla ng kape (The Nestlé LICC will be a big help. It will further contribute to the growth of the coffee industry by giving us the latest technology in coffee production),” said Belamides.

DA-PADCC President and NCI National Focal Person Marizz Agbon also recognized the impact of the Nestlé LICC.

“Having a facility that trains and then buys the produce effectively encourages the farmers to go into high value crops, such as coffee; an alternative income to the farmers other than traditional crops such as rice and corn,” said Agbon.

He added that the DA is currently identifying areas suitable to coffee production, including areas where centers like the Nestlé LICC can be built.

Annual local demand for coffee beans is currently pegged at 64,000 metric tons and valued at an estimated P6 billion. The Philippines, however, currently produces only 20,000 metric tons.

The Calabarzon region is one of the biggest coffee producers in the country, hosting coffee farms growing Arabica, Robusta and the local Liberica beans.

Nestle, the biggest buyer of coffee in the country, purchasing an estimated 80 percent of the entire Philippine coffee produce, noted that the demand is still growing.

“There has been a steady rise in local coffee consumption” said Edith De Leon, senior vice president and head of Corporate Affairs NPI.

“This is what drives us to fuel the growth of the coffee industry so that the Philippines can attain self-sufficiency. We look forward to the time when all our coffee will come from Philippine growers,” she said. (PR)

Grabe na pala sobra dami na establishments sa Lipa, at ang dami pa under constructions ha.. Ang dami restaurants, talo ang Batangas City... By the way, my Tita works from DECS and I chanced upon her papers... Do you know that there are more private schools in Lipa with 57, while Batangas has 46. Tanauan has just 10... Batangas City nga lang hosts the biggest universities and campuses in the province, and the main campus sites are there. Sa Lipa kasi ang maituturing n talaga malaki lang na campus ay De La Salle. Yung UB at BSU dun satellite campuses.. But i like the StonyHurst school sa Lipa, ang ganda ng design. better than the Stonyhurst in Lipa.... Do you know too, that the most expensive school in the province is McKinley Hill, with campuses both in batangas and lipa. my cousin is presently enrolled there, the high school tuition is P100,000.00. gosh...

Dun pala s list of restos ni madz29 sa lipa, yung Casa Marikit Restaurante di ba yun ang Ristorante Italiano sa Banay-Banay going to M.Kahoy?. We went there when my Dad had a visitor dun nya dinala. At yung Calda Pizza, di naisama sa list, sa may De La Salle Lipa, (inside Villa Lourdes Subdivision) sarap ng pizza dun, may 2 inches thick ha, 2 feet diameter. yung nga lang 1,000 per order.. Sikat daw s makati yun. we also went there about a week ago..

Very impressive ang Lipa. I've been there in the year 2002 and in Batangas city at the same time. I've found Batangas City more urban than Lipa. Fiesta Mall Lipa was one of our favorites placesince Robs was still then underconstruction. I didnt know that after 10 years wow Lipa has soared that high. Higher than Batangas City. :)

Our apartment when I was there was in Sto. Tomas and we attend church meetings in Tanauan City.

Update ko lang po. Meron pong HUNGRY HIPPO sa LEMERY. Burger Store po yan. madami branch nyan dito sa Makati at Ortigas sa mga loob ng Corporate plaza's.

Sa mga banks naman po meron po na UCPB ang Lemery.
Sa Bus naman meron naman po na bumabyaheng ALPS.

Another upcoming project, according to my Dad is set to open in Lipa, and this will make this city look more cosmopolitan. What's good news here is that San Jose will benefit from this. Why? Because this will be a township project, with official announcement a few months ago from the developer itself, Abacus Properties, that will go beyond Lipa and extend to our town.

Heard from the grapevine too, although still confidential, that a 12-storey bldg. will rise along Ayala Hiway, near the junction of J.M. Katigbak St. (bus stop area), in the area just beside CAP Bldg, near Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf. A planned 10-storey condominium project in 2007 along CM Recto Ave in the city proper was shelved due to some problems with investors. In its supposed site now sits a 4-storey commercial bldg. instead.

MANILA, Philippines – The father of singer and actress Carol Banawa has passed away.

It has been almost 14 years since Banawa’s father and brother were discovered in their car unconscious due to carbon monoxide poisoning.

The incident claimed the life of her brother. Her father survived, but he became paralyzed as the carbon monoxide reached his brain.

In 2003, Banawa decided to go to the United States to earn more to support her father's medication.

Her family returned to the Philippines when the singer's father passed away.

Banawa tearfully offered a song before her father was laid to rest in Batangas City. -- From a report by Joan Panopio, ABS-CBN News Southern Tagalog

Hi Madz29, thanks for joining. at least meron na mismo taga lipa city. dami kasi nagpopost about lipa pero di naman taga dyan... and your infos are mukang mas complete. Grabe na pala sobra dami na establishments sa Lipa, at ang dami pa under constructions ha.. Ang dami restaurants, talo ang Batangas City... By the way, my Tita works from DECS and I chanced upon her papers... Do you know that there are more private schools in Lipa with 57, while Batangas has 46. Tanauan has just 10... Batangas City nga lang hosts the biggest universities and campuses in the province, and the main campus sites are there. Sa Lipa kasi ang maituturing n talaga malaki lang na campus ay De La Salle. Yung UB at BSU dun satellite campuses.. But i like the StonyHurst school sa Lipa, ang ganda ng design. better than the Stonyhurst in Lipa.... Do you know too, that the most expensive school in the province is McKinley Hill, with campuses both in batangas and lipa. my cousin is presently enrolled there, the high school tuition is P100,000.00. gosh...

Construction of commercial buildings in Lipa is in full-swing. I believe, batangas City is an industrial city while Lipa is a commercial city. Both are transportation and educational centers. I think, may at leat 60 public schools in Lipa and are in good condition.

May limited information din ako about the redevelopment of Fiesta World Mall. Gagawin na daw University City-mixed-use residential, educational at commercial center. LK Global developer. Yung University of Perpetual Help DALTA sa Lipa, wala akong update kung marami enrollees nila.

Kim Chiu Joins Gov. Vi’s Alay Lakad, donates 20,000

Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Edition first winner, Kim Chiu participated in the 40th Walk for A Cause of the Alay Lakad Foundation in Batangas City on September 7, 2012 where she served as the guest of honor and donated P20,000 for its various projects.

Kim Chiu gamely joined the walk-for-a-cause with thousand participants from different schools, non-government organizations, local government units and the Philippine National Police.

The event raised money for 105 scholars who will benefit from a full scholarship program until they reach college…Here's a highlight of event...

September 12 2012, which falls on a Wednesday, is a non-working holiday in Lipa City, Batangas. The announcement was made by the Office of the President through Proclamation 463 upon the request of Lipa City Mayor Meynardo Sabili. Thousands of devotees are expected to flock to the said Southern Luzon city on the said day to take part in the 9th annual National Marian Pilgrimage day. September 12 has since been declared as the National Day of Prayer and Reparation for World Peace and Sanctification of the Clergy.

Batangas State U To Market New Lemongrass-Flavored Goat Meat

MANILA, Philippines — Batangas State University (BatStateU) will pioneer the production of lemon grass-flavored goat meat products, with tapa and sausages to be sold in the market by year-end.

Researcher Rowena Odono Anyayahan said these products will be processed in Lobo, Batangas, a coastal town also noted to its limestone rock formations and abandoned mines.

Completely vegetarian, goats are highly recommended for the health-conscious and the Food Technology laboratory of BatStateU is undertaking a nutritional content study for chevon before the meat products are released in the market.

Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR) director Dr. Nicomedes P. Eleazar said the bureau funded a P1.5-million goat breeding program in Batangas that became the spearhead for the commercialization of processed chevon.

Started in 2009, the program improved goat breeds by crossing native goats with high meat-yielding Boer and high dairy-yielding Anglo Nubian foreign breeds.

Eleazar said the program was directed at improving the economic conditions of small goat raisers since 99.59 percent of goat herds in the entire country is controlled by backyard raisers.

By using lemon grass or tanglad for better flavor, and a liberal dose of garlic for improved therapeutic effect, Eleazar said BatStateU will be pioneering a campaign to induce higher consumption of goat meat or chevon, which has a per capita consumption of 0.42 kilo.

The country’s goat population stood at 3.88 million last year and government is intent on raising it to 6.6 million in 2020.

Studies conducted by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) showed chevon has the lowest cholesterol content for every three-ounce cooked meat at 63.8 milligrams (mg).

Chicken has 76 mg, beef and pork, 73.1 mg each and veal or lamb at 78.2 mg.

Calorie-wise, it is also lowest at 122 while chicken has 162, beef has 170, pork at 180 and lamb at 175.

Pagkatapos ng apatnapu’t dalawang taon, isang amicable settlement ang nilagdaan nina Bauan Mayor Ryanh Dolor at San Pascual Mayor Antonio Dimayuga noong ika-3 ng Setyembre 2012 sa Sangguniang Panlalawigan ng Batangas.upang tuluyan nang magkaayos ang dalawang bayan sa hindi pagkakaunawaan patungkol sa hangganan o boundary ng mga ito.

Naging mahalagang ang papel ng Sangguniang Panlalawigan, na umupo bilang Administrative Court na may quasi-judicial powers, sa pagbibigay konklusyon sa usapin na nag-ugat noong 1969 nang nilikha ng Kongreso ang Bayan ng San Pascual, subalit nagbunga naman sa mahigpit na pagtatalo tungkol sa boundary.

Malaki ang pasasalamat nina Mayor Dolor at Mayor Dimayuga kay Governor Vilma Santos Recto, Vice Governor Mark Leviste at sa bumubuo ng Sangguniang Panlalawigan, na nagpulong bilang Committee of the Whole, matapos nilang lagdaan ang Memorandum of Agreement.

Ang Mukha ng Bauan, kung saan nakatayo ang mga gusaling pangnegosyo o ang kabayanan nito ay mananatiling bahagi ng Bauan. Samantalang ang 4.9 ektaryang Perocarel o Tramo ay kabilang na sa pag-aari ng San Pascual.

Ayon kay Mayor Dolor, malaking karangalan na sa ilalim ng pamumuno niya bilang punong bayan ng Bauan naisara ang usaping ito. Malaki naman ang pasasalamat ni Mayor Dimayuga sa bayan ng Bauan sa pagkakaloob sa kanila ng ilang bahagi lupa na, ayon sa kanya, ay malaking tulong sa San Pascual lalo na sa usapin ng buwis.

Congratulations to the UB Law Moot Court team, which took third place role play challenge at the 2012 National Moot Court Competition on International Humanitarian Law in De La Salle University, Manila this past weekend! UB students Clarible Ochoa, Karmela Mirriam Ebreo, and Alyssa Renne Cruz took on 10 teams from best law schools in the Philippines, ranging from Far Eastern University-Manila, San Beda College of Law-Manila, Southwestern University, Saint Louis University, St. La Salles, University of the Cordilleras and Cor Jesu College Law School.. UB was the only CALABARZON school in the competition, but in the end, was bested only by University of the Philippines in first place and Ateneo de Manila and University of St. La Salle in second.

Patuloy na nanawagan ang mga miyembro ng Sangguniang Panglungsod sa Department of Public Works and Highways o DPWH sa agarang aksyon nito hinggil sa patuloy na pagbaha sa mga lugar na sakop ng national road partikular ang kahaban ng P. Burgos at Rizal Avenue.

Ayon kay Konsehal Narciso Macarandang, matagal na nilang idinulog sa naturang tanggapan ang problema ng pagbaha sa mga nasabing lugar.

Aniya, dapat lamang na bigyan ng prayoridad ang kanilang panawagan sapagkat silang mga nasa lokal na pamahalan ang napapagbuntunan ng sisi kung bakit hanggang ngayon ay hindi pa malutas ang suliraning ito lalo na sa panahon ng tag-ulan.

Ipinaalala ni Macarandang na kung ang isang lugar ay nasasakop ng national road, ang national agency na DPWH ang may karapatang magpagawa nito.

Idinagdag pa niya na sa halip na unahin ang mga pagawain na hindi naman masyadong angkop sa lungsod, unahin na muna aniyang isaayos ang naturang mga drainage at canal.

Samantala, nagpasa na ng resolusyon ang sangguniang panglungsod upang muling tawagan ng pansin ang mga opisyales ng Department of Public Works and Highways upang mabigyang solusyon ang suliranin ng pagbaha sa lungsod. (JERSON J. SANCHEZ. PIO Batangas City)

As a resident of San Pascual, matagal nang sinasabi ng mga matatanda rito sa amin na sakop ng San Pascual ang kalahati ng palengke ng Bauan, pati na ang Bauan High School, at ang present establishments tulad ng Citimart, Jollibee, Greenwich, Chowking, 7-11, Mang Inasal at BDO. Malaki ang mawawala sana sa Bauan kung sa San Pascual napunta ang mga ito. Sa tingin ko dehado pa ang nangyari sa San Pascual. Sana hindi naging malambot si Mayor Dimayuga. Balita pa naman na tigasin sya.

Recently, nag-open na ang Marina sa may Pallocan malapit sa SM, a mid-range to high-end restaurant. Sa Pallocan may mga bagong maliliit na restaurants.

Sa Lipa naman, mas madami ang fastfoods kesa sa Batangas City, although mas madaming Jollibee sa Batangas City. May Lipa Grille dun at yung bagong restaurant sa may Banay-Banay (sensya na at di pa ako nakakapunta dun sa bagong resto na ito).

Sana hindi lang fastfoods at 7-11 ang pagtuunan natin ng pansin kasi in totality all of them make a city a city.

Sa Lipa naman, mas madami ang fastfoods kesa sa Batangas City, although mas madaming Jollibee sa Batangas City. May Lipa Grille dun at yung bagong restaurant sa may Banay-Banay (sensya na at di pa ako nakakapunta dun sa bagong resto na ito).

Sana hindi lang fastfoods at 7-11 ang pagtuunan natin ng pansin kasi in totality all of them make a city a city.

Governor Vi will be officially included in the list of public servants who are”models of honor, excellence and integrity in public service” as she will receive the Presidential Lingkod Bayan Award on Wednesday, Sept. 19, at rites to be held at the Rizal Ceremonial Hall in Malacañang Palace.

The award is the highest honor given to government officials and employees by the Civil Service Commission and the Office of the President.

Here's big news for Lipa.. LIMA Land has already consolidated around 50 hectares along Star Toll, in Tibig-Bulacnin area, near the still un-opened Tibig exit. They will put their second industrial zone in that area, to duplicate the highly successful LiMa Technology Center in Lipa-Malvar boundary. This, on top of the two township projects on going plus another one in the pipeline. This will make Lipa truly a highly urbanized city. Currently, LiMA employs 19,000 employees with 39 locators, all of which being served by the commercial establishments in Lipa, makes no one wonder why restaurants, supermarkets and malls in Lipa are always teeming with people all the time.

with eight lanes at that, ayala highway in lipa was clogged with heavy traffic yesterday.. looked like EDSA. we went to malarayat yesterday to attend business presentation.
