The rocks look granit, the glacier is gone but the vegetation still alpine and not yet boreal so I guess a lower part of a high or a medium mountain ridge of a eocene genesis with glaciation in the small ice age 1600-1850. So could be Romania - but I am not sure about the glaciological state of the Carpathians. So it also could be India... hmm.... no I go for the Carpathians :) Gherkin January 16th, 2007, 11:35 AM Wow your name and avatar is just like mine!!! perhaps we are brothers? :D Küsel January 16th, 2007, 11:38 AM He changes his nick every few months I have the impression, so no wonder ;) Just take care that the admins don't react :) ♣628.finst January 16th, 2007, 03:08 PM Wow your name and avatar is just like mine!!! perhaps we are brothers? :D Welcome to visit this subforum! We have similar username. For such a large forum this problem is common. I would rather change my avatar to avoid the admins (Kuesel?) Küsel January 16th, 2007, 03:16 PM I am not an admin and I don't have anything against username changes, but there are some that I know that don't like to see things like that. But I think it's only if forumers misuse nicks to spam or troll around ;) ♣628.finst January 16th, 2007, 03:18 PM The rocks look granit, the glacier is gone but the vegetation still alpine and not yet boreal so I guess a lower part of a high or a medium mountain ridge of a eocene genesis with glaciation in the small ice age 1600-1850. So it also could be India... hmm.... no I go for the Carpathians :) Very detailed observations. Have you studied alpine glaciology, Kuesel? I do think that resembles some cirque lakes in Graubuenden region in Switzerland. Küsel January 16th, 2007, 03:40 PM Ehm... yes - I am geographer and HAD :( to study geology as well, but that was long ago in the early 90s. But some things always remain in your brain  I wouldn't say Graubünden, but rather Gotthardmassiv. Graubünden is Ostalpin, it's another geology. Gotthard is Granit. samba_man January 16th, 2007, 04:42 PM Romenia MDguy January 17th, 2007, 02:46 AM Romania? Küsel January 18th, 2007, 08:49 AM Great, my reflections were right though ;) Means I didn't forget everything about glaciology and geology in the last 15 years  Kecce January 19th, 2007, 02:14 PM It looks like it could be in any one of the countries listed. Im guessing the Himalayas in India ♣628.finst January 19th, 2007, 04:58 PM It looks like it could be in any one of the countries listed. Im guessing the Himalayas in India It could "fit" any countries with massive alpine ranges. Küsel January 19th, 2007, 07:49 PM Sorry, Madagascar it CAN'T fit - I know the country very well from north to south and these structures you can't find anywhere - wrong geology, morphology and vegetation ;) ♣628.finst January 20th, 2007, 05:43 AM Sorry, Madagascar it CAN'T fit - I know the country very well from north to south and these structures you can't find anywhere - wrong geology, morphology and vegetation ;) The filename of the image was deliberately "Madagascarised". Therefore, URL-cheaters might either pick Indonesia or Madagascar. Küsel January 20th, 2007, 09:07 AM  - That's a good one! |
