Edmonton is a beautiful city with some decent height for a metro of its size... the Manulife building is gorgeous... nice variety here

i give edmonton 8
itom 987 August 5th, 2003, 03:51 AM I give Edmonton an 8.5 because it does better than most cities with simmilar populations.
itom 987 August 5th, 2003, 04:16 AM Here's a view of most of the skyline. The university skyline is on the other side of the river.

I really wish gutless haters would stop voting <3/10... Edmonton is clearly not a 3/10!!!
big W October 18th, 2003, 01:41 AM I think for a City of its size Edmonton has a great skyline. And once they finally get rid of the City Centre Airport and the height restriction that comes with it the height will come as well.
Aquarius November 20th, 2003, 07:09 PM abundant buildings for a city of a million inhabitants, pretty
buildings of crystal and with enough density 8,5/10
SeeMacau November 21st, 2003, 06:55 AM Nice skyline, but need some taller buildings
I've been there once
8/10
leealex_24 November 21st, 2003, 02:48 PM Nice, I guess Canadian cities have the reputation of not having too many tall buildings but, doesn't compromise on the overall beauty and structure. Not very dense city, but, those buildings definitely look good. I give 8.5/10
jtown, man December 20th, 2003, 06:01 PM niiiice. This is truly a great find for me. Ive always seen edmonton on a map, but always thought it was like a waste land of suburbs. Was i wrong! Well, i like it...maybe a little too boxy, but the setting and the......pure number of buildings make up for that. 9/10
Siberian December 20th, 2003, 07:04 PM 7.5/10
I like this picture. Edmonton has no very sprawl skyline, but it enough dense and interesting ;) And Yes, if Edmonton would has at least one new modern and tall highrise, I would give 9/10!

PegRules04 January 11th, 2004, 11:49 PM Edmonton is a beautiful city.....love the Manulife Centre. Hope our new Manitoba Hydro tower looks something like that. I vote an 8!
ParraMan January 12th, 2004, 01:31 AM 6.5
Very nice, and dense and tall enough for a city of its size. Looks in proportion.

arielbender May 4th, 2004, 07:56 AM While it does look nice, Edmonton looks like Canada's answer to Denver. 6/10
90SHO May 10th, 2004, 06:18 AM Edmonton has some beautiful buildings unfortunatly that Telus "box" takes up prime land and blocks the sight of Manulife and the more appealing buildings behind.
Edmonton is also home to the worlds largest shopping mall, which has to be taken into consideration when viewing the skyline. It is too bad it was built out in the west end, because if it was built in the core there would be many hotels and spin off services, prehaps even rivaling calgary when it comes to tall structures. Another point in the Edmonton/Calgary comparison is the benefit of having the underground LRT in Edmonton. Calgary may of had the short term benefits of not having to deal with the massive traffic problems and ability to have a mass transit capable of bringing people downtown. But I believe in 30-50 years the benefit of Edmonton's underground mass transit will perhaps reverse the trend of head offices choosing Calgary over Edmonton.

Edmonton is a beautiful city. Just by looking at the pictures I get the feeling that it is very clean and safe. It is a jem shining in the Northern Canadian woods.
Tri-City Guy October 27th, 2004, 06:29 AM Edmonton is a very handsome city with a nice skyline. Because its sits somewhat high on the river valley, the skyline seems grander than it is. Edmonton is just waiting for a big bang in development with its hot economy. What Edmonton needs is a tall to stick out at the side and give it more definition. Hopefully this will happen east of city hall. Also they need to close the city airport so the city can go over its height limit. Edmonton has more skycrapers than Calgary, its just its more uniform and their plenty around the 20-30 story mark. Something needs to go over 50. Edmonton's ready for it!
big W October 27th, 2004, 07:51 PM Damn height limits. What you see is as high as you can go. But there is talk of closing one runway at the City Centre Airport. Once that happens the height limit at the east will be lifted. Then we may see more height. Currently there are lots of buildings proposed and going up, just not much in height right now, I think the most is 30 and several 28 stries.
GuilhermeC October 31st, 2004, 11:22 PM Typical Canada. Plain but the perfect place to be. I have a friend who lives there and loves the city! 7.5/10
Wu-Gambino November 1st, 2004, 12:19 AM 6.5/10
Dense, but it doesn't dominate.
Orfeo November 2nd, 2004, 04:24 AM Quite nice. It would be good if the height restrictions were eased, but the density you've got is pretty good.

Rhino January 5th, 2005, 05:39 PM In the top photo I found where I used to Live ( right behind Future Shop in Rail town tower 2 on the 11th story) I actually helped build those buildings ! Edmonton does have height! Manual life place is like 42 stories! 8/10 :)

It needs some type of signature tower.
MattSal April 7th, 2005, 06:42 AM A very nice city, but the skyline is very boxy. I give it a 7/10.
Boris550 April 7th, 2005, 08:16 AM Ah, my true hometown...I give it an 8
I have to say though...the towers look much bigger when you are 6 years old...I've only once been to downtown Edmonton twice since then and I was surprised to learn that it didn't extend inwards quite as far as I thought (or it looks). Oh well, it's still a humble skyline...
stlouiscityboy April 7th, 2005, 08:21 AM I have always not like their skyline its just so boring but i do say they have a great packing in to the buildings.
mikep April 7th, 2005, 05:38 PM for a city so high in lattitude its very nice 8/10
SoboleuS April 7th, 2005, 05:53 PM Nice skyline. It lacks height but density is really good. 7,5/10

40748246 June 11th, 2005, 09:08 PM The skyline looks similar to San Diego`s in height ,consistancy and grouping.
xantarc July 26th, 2005, 11:42 AM 8.5/10.
Quite...Impressive. Nice architecture.
Nouvellecosse July 26th, 2005, 11:51 AM It's very nice, but it's hard to believe that its metro is as large as Calgary's. Edmonton tends to be very overlooked which is unfortunate as it can compete with almost any metro in its size range.
lesterZ July 27th, 2005, 04:33 AM I've never seen that angle before in the airial photo - I like it. When I lived in Seattle I always wanted to get up there and check it out, but never got the chance, nor Calgary, I regret it. Now that I live in Chicago, I'll be scoping out Milwaukee and Cleveland.

Just a few cool 50 story towers would make this a 10 IMO.

pmuras September 11th, 2010, 06:40 PM Edmonton's skyline is not fantastic. Its long and thin, a few blocks around Jasper Avenue. Most of the buildings are way past their glory years. Until Edmonton becomes more of a commercial hub, this will always be the case. The city should encourage more residential towers downtown...and close that stupid municipal airport that prevents taller buildings from being constructed. 6.5

I like it. It is sort of like Denver's skyline, except without the three ~200 meter buildings, but with a lot more 50-120 meter buildings, and a greater variety of colors and textures. It looks colorful and balanced, don't always have to have supertalls for a nice skyline.

linum November 16th, 2012, 01:16 AM 5/10 - the city looks magical under the snow but the skyline itself is very eighties ;)
Sarcasticity November 16th, 2012, 03:40 AM The skyline itself has so much potential, but next to Calgary, it's quite behind. It seems like the downtown core has quite a large footprint, but there is a plateau effect of the buildings. Maybe there's a height restriction I'm not aware of so pardon me. But overall, the city has so much potential but needs to stray away from the boxy architecture.

(Someone correct me if I'm wrong) There was a height restriction of around 500ft because Edmonton used to have two airports fairly close to the downtown core, however an airport is currently being replaced and that height restriction is being lifted and recent proposals are taking advantage of that. Manulife 2 is proposed at 161m and another proposal I saw for Edmonton was around 238m, though I haven't heard anything on that one in a while.
isaidso November 16th, 2012, 12:38 PM I'm not that familiar with Edmonton, but that sounds about right. There do seem to be some exciting things in store for Edmonton. I don't think they like being overtaken by Calgary and would like their #1 title back.
Calgary gets the attention because of its corporate clout, but people forget that Edmonton's practically the same size and growing just as fast.

Tandax January 30th, 2013, 04:25 AM The skyline of Edmonton is definitely not as impressive as Calgary's, but i find the city more interesting than Calgary. Its more varied, dirty and working class which i find more appealing.:)

waccamatt May 3rd, 2013, 07:28 AM Edmonton has a great skyline for its size. I have a FB friend that lives there and a real time friend that is from there.
