The Panorama is starting to get going, as well as the Phu My project to the south... Also observed that the Saigon Pearl has really accelerated. Will take a photo when it's clear. Really hazy these days, is it from those Indonesian fires? Anyone know?

I was difective in update news just because of my careless observation :bash: and now I'm definitely that the foundation of SG Pearl have been COMPLETED , this afternoon sunday ( 5/11) I came across the area of The Manor and SG Pearl once again and I was excited when realized that , everything is really begun at the site of SG Pearl :banana: ( cung tai vi tri nay nam khuat o trong nen lan dau di ngang qua ko thay cung phai thui , may bac thong cum nha :) )

(LĐCT) - Dưới áp lực đô thị hoá, giới kiến trúc đang tranh luận gay gắt chuyện ta xây dựng nhiều mà không có kiến trúc. Ý là nhà xây không đẹp, quy hoạch rối mù. Một cựu phó thủ tướng của ta từng nói đại ý: Nhìn trên máy bay xuống HN như một đống hỗn độn.
Có chuyện vui kể rằng: Một anh nhà quê xe thồ, mũ lá, ra Hà Nội. Anh dừng lại ngước nhìn một building khổng lồ giữa phố, con quái vật vằn xanh vằn đỏ bằng kính và bêtông.

Một bảo vệ (BV) gì đó, có mặc sắc phục, thấy anh chàng lớ ngớ bèn dọa trêu. "Ê! Anh kia, đứng làm gì ở đấy? Đếm tầng nhà hả? Cấm! Đếm mỗi tầng phạt 1.000đ".

Anh nhà quê hốt hoảng ú ớ: "Thưa em... em". BV tiếp: "Đếm được mấy tầng rồi? Nộp phạt mau!". Anh mũ lá đành thú thật :"Dạ em mới đếm được 7 tầng thôi ạ!". "Nộp bảy ngàn đây!". Anh chàng đành nộp cho anh BV kia 7.000đ.

Anh BV cầm tiền vào quán càphê, vừa đi vừa cười thầm. "Nhà quê ngu bỏ mẹ, phạt thế mà cũng nộp". Anh nhà quê dắt xe đi mặt tươi rói, lẩm bẩm: "BV ở HN đếch ra cái gì, ngu bỏ mẹ. Ông đếm được 14 tầng rồi mà phạt có 7 ngàn!". Hoá ra, những nhà văn như Lỗ Tấn và Nam Cao đều còn rất thời sự.

Nhưng đây tôi muốn nói chuyện kiến trúc. Môn này mang nhiều cái lạ nhất, tân thời nhất vào nước ta, mà đi đầu là các building - hiện đại. Nó lạ với dân ta như cái Nhà hát Lớn Hà Nội năm 1902. Nó lạ như các villa Tây ở phố Tây mà các le nhaque (nhà quê) chỉ biết dương mắt lên mà nhìn.

Tất nhiên thời thế đã khác. Kiến trúc hiện nay đã rút ra hiều bài học hay và dở của thời thực dân cũng như đã vượt qua những ấu trĩ rất bác học của modernism (trường phái hiện đại).

Dưới áp lực đô thị hoá, giới kiến trúc đang tranh luận gay gắt chuyện ta xây dựng nhiều mà không có kiến trúc. Ý là nhà xây không đẹp, quy hoạch rối mù. Một cựu phó thủ tướng của ta từng nói đại ý: Nhìn trên máy bay xuống HN như một đống hỗn độn. Các KTS tâm huyết rất đau đầu về nhận xét đúng này.

Kiến trúc không còn là nghệ thuật nữa mà cũng không còn là khoa học nữa trong khi sự ở, không gian sống và làm việc của dân đô thị đang là vấn đề quan trọng nhất, hot nhất. Kiến trúc là cơ thể của hiện đại hoá. Giới kiến trúc đã thất bại trong vụ phản biện tòa nhà Bộ Tài chính chềnh ềnh giữa thủ đô.

KTS Lê Văn Lân viết trên Tạp chí Kiến trúc của Hội KTS VN số tháng 8 /2006 (trang 42): "...Rốt cuộc thì gương mặt kiến trúc ta có được, không là mong muốn của người dân, cũng chẳng là ý tưởng của người thiết kế, nó là sản phẩm của quyền lực, được một số người đại diện thực thi".

Tôi biểu đồng tình dù ta cũng không thể phủ nhận những thành tựu tất nhiên phải có của kiến trúc trong thời đổi mới. Và quyền lực nào cũng thua thời gian! Ở Huế, một thời người ta phá Đàn Nam Giao, nay Đàn Nam Giao đã được khôi phục.

Có nhẽ các nhà cầm quyền ở các đô thị nên gần gũi với giới KT hơn nữa và cần nhận thức rõ hơn trách nhiệm của mình đối với kiến trúc của ngưới dân, tạo một cơ chế quyền lực thế nào để KT áp sát với "mong muốn của người dân" và "ý tưởng của người thiết kế".

Thanks Jaro for the updates. SP should be the 2nd or 3rd tallest u/c behind the Times Square and Financial Tower (if you believe those VN newspaper that FT is u/c). I'm not sure if TS will reach above 150 meters to become the tallest bldg when it completes (and then the FT will take over the title). Do you have any close-up aerial shot of the TS site?

nguyen dinh chieu complex near the HTV tower, 2yrs ago I saw it under clearance stage, but now everything halted because people refused to move.
Nguyen Dinh CHieu 2-22storeys apts, 2-15 storeys apts. and 1-12 storeys office.....hopefully now those buildings will be around 30 storeys.
but not sure if construction started yet.

Good question. But I'd go with counting them together... they probably share the wall that divides them, so they are not even structurally independent. So there are seven blocks in the Skygarden project.

I had gone along Ben Van Don and Ben Chuong Duong Str and very dissapointed with the quality of street here( nhieu o ga qua di nay ca dit e ca mong ) :( Khanh Hoi apartment is being extending very good and it look a beautiful buiding nearby Ben Nghe river ???

there's a small city in the Mekong My Tho, have you been there? very small very quiet, and they have a small french section near the river. the city is very peaceful
next time I'm back i'll visit all the small cities in Vn and take pictures for you all to see. French architectures and french atmosphere are everywhere in Vn, saigon, hanoi are too crowded now to feel the beauty of the bygone days.

Ended up not doing Sapa yet... went to Hoi An and Hue and Danang... over 400 photos in three days. :) I'd post a lot if I had a good internet connection. Went to Mytho and Cantho last year, nice colonial stuff in both places. Hm, where should I go next, around Saigon???

have you been to Thu Dau Mot? north of saigon, closer than Vungtau. In history books there are lots of French buildings in Thu Dau Mot during the colonial days, but not sure what Thu Dau Mot looks like now. that place is so quiet.
saigon is so overwhelming, by the time you're in Vn you forget about everything else. I planned to go to Thu DAu MOt, only to remember it by the time I left VN.

that site used to be the old Ben Thanh market until the French took 1/3 of it to build the treasury building.
I think they discovered the old Ben Thanh market foundation during construction. So they need time to study the history burried under that ground. Oh Yeah

Hic although I try my best not to take electric wire in my photos but desperately , if I don't take it my photos won't be nice and clear about surrounding area ,sympethetic for me :)

looking at these pics I tell ya, the best time to come back to saigon is 2010, that's when all the big and major projects completed....hopefully saigon south and Thu Thiem and the metro too.

Saigon pearl, kumho, Theo Dien, Saigon sport city, happy square, ....just to name few of the major projects that will transform saigon skyline......don;'t forget the 68storeys tower too

I am so glad to see this french building being renovated. Once this project and the Kho Bac building are done, it will be a beautiful area in District One.

These apartments were built with World Bank funds, I believe, to provide resettlement options to squatters along the canal. The views from the top are splendid, I posted some photos a long time ago. Most apartments on the top floors are empty.

And I think TITANIC was asking about the An Khanh twin towers a couple of pages back... construction was suspended at foundation level last year, nothing happened for a looooong time, now there are signs--workers!--that it may actually rise above ground some day... :) I walk there sometimes since it's near where I live, so I keep track of it.

Oh my amigo , I'm living in this apartment , it's Mieu Noi apartment and I took many photos from the window of my house on 17th floor :D , the view is very magnificent , especially in night, what a pity, I don't know how to use photoshop to make my photos clear

haha...now I know where u're living! next time I will surprise u when I'm in Saigon! hihi :)
