This is my first time posting my pics (from Christmas time). I spent Christmas time in Essen, Düsseldorf and Köln. I have to admit i fell in love with German cities and people (so kind and helpful).

Thanks for the really nice fotos! :)
I can't help, but I really think Cologne is one of the ugliest big cities in Germany, as most cities in Rhein-Ruhr region are.

Yep, Rhein-Ruhr region is very industrial as long i saw (Bayern factory in Leverkussen it's as big as a city). But i like the mixture between the old town and the newest places.:)

Thanks for the well-made pics, frozen! I think they give quite a good impression of Cologne, as you don't stick to the few beautiful and old places, but show just what about 90 % of the inner city look like. (There far more beautiful outer boroughs though, as the WWII bombings concentrated on the city centre). As a guy living not far away from Colgone I must say I like the town despite its obvious ugliness - the Cathedral is just great and it's a very nice place for shopping and what doesn't become visible on your photos (maybe due to the winter wheather and late hour) is that it's a vibrant city full of life (supposed to be one of the best cities to life in Germany, also because of the mood of the local people).

So mcuh from me, keep'em coming!

Cologne, similar to Stuttgart and Frankfurt did a horrible job at rebuilding their city centers, HOWEVER I like this city for what it has to offer: great food (Sauerbraten), very friendly people (the Rhinelanders are known to be a jolly bunch) and very diverse supply in culture (museums, nightlife, etc). For nice architecture and a historic city center look at the neighboring Bonn, a posh little university town..

That is an absolute great looking building. My first time seeing it, near my top list favorites now.

As others have said, it's quite tragically post-warrish. I do feel that it's a bit of a spirited city, though, and have met wonderful hospitality there.
