well san antonio is overshadowed by Houston and Dallas and probably Austin now. Dallas and Houston have all the fortune 500 companys and austin is growing to be a large city
WZ1 November 4th, 2003, 07:51 AM I lived in San Antonio for just over a year, its a beautiful city, and in my personal opinion i would rahter live there than Houston or Dallas. It has a Amazing skyline at NIGHT ONLY, that the major downfall, drive around the loop at night near city centre and be amazed. San Antonio does have a small skyline for its size howeve, 1.7 million when i was there.
SeeMacau November 7th, 2003, 05:18 AM 5/10
Kaneda November 7th, 2003, 08:14 PM 4.5 ... For some reason I dont like the observation tower. Its the rigth size for the skyline, but somehow it dosent look rigth.
Memo November 7th, 2003, 09:44 PM The pictures aren't very good. This city's skyline is nice and you notice it when you drive close to the downtown area. Not too many tall ones though.
7/10
Bobdreamz November 8th, 2003, 06:37 AM a dismal skyline for a city it's size although the city downtown is nice...the rest of the city is quite suburban though.
Primo November 8th, 2003, 06:40 AM not that much but 7/10
huaiwei November 11th, 2003, 07:26 PM I have to agree that tower is wreaking havok to the skyline, which in itself is rather smallish too. 5/10.

Worthless skyline for a worthless city.
Certainly doesn't do the riverwalk or the Alamo justice.

Orfeo April 7th, 2004, 08:16 AM 5/10
Not nice...not horrible.
Vision's Landing May 8th, 2004, 05:22 AM While not too impressive for a city of its size, looks better than Austin's.

Gets a few points for having a fairly tall observation tower. Some nice older buildings too but it's a little sparse.
mauiboy63sea July 16th, 2004, 06:37 AM Some tall buildings. The latin culture must have a huge influence in this city. Unfortunately, the buildings are sparse and the gaps are wide between the taller structures. I give SA a 5.
FastWhiteTA July 24th, 2004, 09:37 AM The thing about San Antonio's downtown is it is not a business downtown, but a tourist downtown. I lived there for 11 years. Unfortunately, it needs a couple more taller towers in order to really give it a nice looking skyline. Although, as stated earlier, it does look really nice at night. And another thing that hurts it is how far it is spread out. The downtown really is spread out quite a bit for how many buildings there are down there. I like San Antonio as a city a lot, but the downtown needs a couple signature buildings. 7/10, decent older architecture, as well as the tall 30s bldg (can't remember it's name), it isn't really emphasized well with the skyline in these pics. Best part about the downtown is when you are on the riverwalk winding through some buildings....it looks really nice from the water.
SoboleuS March 26th, 2005, 04:48 PM The buidings are quite nice, but skyline is dissapointing. I was expecting something bigger ;) 6,5/10
MattSal March 26th, 2005, 04:49 PM Some nice towers here and there, but it is missing some critical density. I give it a 7/10. :D

hauntedheadnc March 27th, 2005, 01:02 AM Admirable density and surprising greenery. I like the historic tall buildings most, and their Riverwalk is indeed a sight to behold. Plus, San Antonio boasts an amazing collection of public art. 7.
Jaybird March 27th, 2005, 01:08 AM 6/10, very disappointed, thought it might be up there with Dallas and Houston, but it isn't.
Kev the burninator March 27th, 2005, 10:19 AM i thought it was bigger than that... hmmmm 7/10
i_am_hydrogen March 29th, 2005, 03:37 AM Dallas and Houston blow San Antonio away in the skyline department. San Antonio is a nice city that is fairly clean and charming, but it's skyline is pretty weak. What few buildings it does have aren't all that attractive.
5.5/10.

Sa Town Tx Gringo July 19th, 2005, 06:11 AM Sorry to bring this topic back up but I need to put in my two cents on my hometown. Like others have said Downtown is not really meant for Business its meant for Tourists most the big buildings down there are hotels. City has also started construction on a Convention Center hotel which will be the citys tallest building. Little known fact to most of you... The Marriot downtown is the worlds 35 largest Hotel... Hey its something. We do have some Big Companys down here USAA which has a very very large low rise building, HEB,SBC and few others.... and alot of stuff is spread out in San Antonio. but like others have said we will always be in the shadow of Houston and Dallas. One last side note we passed Dallas in Population this year"In City limits" Not metro
ParraMan July 19th, 2005, 07:00 PM 6.5
The city has some good density of low-medium-rise buildings, and a small collection of taller ones. Needs to improve on height, and needs some newer buildings- the city looks like it stopped in the early 80's sometime.

You are correct the last big building boom downtown was in the late 80's. If anyone is curious as to what the new 45 story hotel looks like you can check out the San Antonio thread. Sadly the way things have been going major companys have been building alot in business parks and away from downtown. So the only hope San Antonio really has is Tourism. But once the Mexico Economy picks up I believe San Antonio will be on of the Cities to benifit the most. Sorry guys... I love my City!

davinSA July 28th, 2005, 02:35 AM A perfect 10!!!!
I live in San Antonio and not until you walk our Riverwalk or take a Riverwalk cruise will you be able to appreciate the beautiful architecture of our skyscrapers ( old and modern ). A beautiful, unique, and romantic city that I have loved ever since I moved to the city 20 years ago!!! The nighttime skyline is awesome as well!!! This skyline is definetly NOT below such skylines as Cincinatti, Little Rock, Corpus Christi, Buffalo, Cleveland, Asheville, Mobile, Nashville, Knoxville, Birmingham, Austin and many more! I invite you all to come see the most UNDERRATED city and skyline in the USA or world! :)
davinSA July 28th, 2005, 02:44 AM The Tower Life Building is one of our signature towers. It is beautifully lit at night. The Tower of the Americas will also be beautifully lit once its renovation is complete. As for more modern buildings, The Weston Centre is an awesome signature and the upcoming convention center hotel will be unique in itself, just as the city!! :)
lesterZ July 28th, 2005, 05:27 AM It has one of those towers too like Dallas had. I didn't know (remember) that either one of them had one. We should have a tread for tall viewing towers since there are so many of them - Seattle, Toronto, Calgary, Dallas, San Antonio. Pheonix and Vancouver have the similar viewing stations, but they are on top of buildings that serve other purposes so I don't think they'd count.
ElRegio August 2nd, 2005, 08:02 AM my favorite city in Texas!

Thanks for the info dude, and for the record, San Antonio has always been a city I wanted to visit. Will check out the 45 storey hotel proposal.
It is a real shame that (much like other large cities around the world) a lot of possible skyscraper development is being redirected to normally low-rise business parks away from the city core. Hopefully this will change some day. The city looks like it has a lot of potential, and appears to have a bit of a "city-feel" about it, which some larger cities seem to lack.
Cheers

royal rose1 December 12th, 2011, 11:26 AM From what I've heard it's a beautiful city! But the skyline is atrocious for the size of the city. Although the majority of the population lies within the city, so it's comparable to Charlotte in terms of metro population. But still not overall impressed... 6
JJG December 12th, 2011, 08:10 PM Boy, you guys are making it seem as if this skyline is just complete shit.
I'll say it's not where it probably should be, but hey, at least there's something there. Can't say the same for El Paso.
San Antonio focuses more on its ground level, unlike Houston, Dallas, or even Austin.
Sid Vicious December 12th, 2011, 10:56 PM even better than my city! what a shame! 5 points
