SteelCity32 June 8th, 2003, 10:00 PM A nice city with a nice skyline. 7/10
tocoto June 9th, 2003, 01:55 AM When I was there it seemed boring and unremarkable. It looks better in pictures. 6/10
Evergrey June 12th, 2003, 01:11 AM 4.5
Boring and unremarkable
The tallest, BellSouth is a rather nice building for most of its height... until reaching the ridiculous horns and advertisement at the top.
Most of the buildings are boring boxes or substandard po-mo... though the octagonal One Nashville Place is attractive

Nice towers , but it needs more
jtown, man August 9th, 2003, 01:43 PM WOW, ok i recently visited nashville, and like i was blown away. I have for many years drove thru nashville, (staying on the interstate and such), and never really explored the city. WAS I MISSING OUT! Just visit midtown, i think its around the university, its alot more dense in person then seeing it in pictures.

exactly, i think nashville is an awesome city with an awesome skyline
Javier August 12th, 2003, 07:58 PM is not like other U.S. skylines, i think tha building more notorious is the one with the two spires...
is kind of satanic
:D
btw. 7/10

That BellSouth Tower looks really weird and dominating.... ANyway, nice modern looking skyline, a bit of height and density, with a variety of building appearances.
Wu-Gambino February 17th, 2004, 01:11 AM 7/10
Some nice towers, but mostly bland architecture.

I really like the BellSouth Tower. Kinda looks like a , but thats also the reason I don't like the skyline. BellSouth steals all the thunder and everything else leaves much to be desired. Plus, country music? :puke:

But the last pic changed my mind :)

8/10
Sean in New Orleans April 19th, 2005, 06:50 AM Nashville is nice, but, it could use some more buildings with height. It doesn't appear to be a commanding skyline that really grabs your attention. 7/10
SoboleuS April 19th, 2005, 09:46 AM Skyline is quite small but looks good, and skyscrapers are really interesting (especially that one with Bellsouth logo;))
7/10
hauntedheadnc April 19th, 2005, 06:24 PM You can clearly see where the boxiness of the 70's and 80's gave way to the almost neo-gothic ornamentation and spires of the 90's and beyond. Nashville is very lucky to have such an attractive signature tower. 8.
Victoria April 19th, 2005, 07:40 PM Impressive 8/10.
MattSal April 20th, 2005, 02:51 AM A very nice and original skyline for a city of its size. I give it a 7/10. :)
Justadude April 21st, 2005, 01:16 AM It's a nice skyline for the size of the city. I like the variety (esp. as you get closer to street level) and the presence of a "signature" tower in a relatively small metro. It will be nicer as it continues to grow and fill in around that core of towers-- especially as it gains more residential towers.
Jaybird April 26th, 2005, 05:07 AM very interesting modern buildings there, 8/10.
doormanpoet April 28th, 2005, 03:15 AM Currently being built is the 31 story Viridian Tower at 410 feet
Proposed a 55 story Signature Tower at 700 feet
Starting Construction on a 13-16 story mid-rise at around 200 feet
Proposed a 23 and 26 story tower combination at 350 feet and 406 feet respectively.
That will be five new towers built by 2009 if all completed.
I live in Nashville, thanks for the nice comments!
cwilson758 May 2nd, 2005, 06:38 PM Nashville is much more impressive when driving from the north along I-65...the downtown is on a hill, so it looks much more impressive than it actually is. Bell South is cool, but it should have been much taller. Once you get downtown, the skyline isn't as impressive. There needs to be more density.
GeorgeCostanza2 May 2nd, 2005, 07:49 PM 4/10
doormanpoet May 3rd, 2005, 04:16 AM Nashville City Center 2 40 stories and 596 feet
Marina Tower 62 stories at 620 feet :eek2:
doormanpoet May 23rd, 2005, 03:37 AM Thursday May 26th, the groundbreaking for the new 16 story Suntrust Tower will take place. Also breaking ground is the 18 story Adelcia Tower in July. If one were to drive through Nashville today, the amount of cranes seen in the sky would be quite impressive. A lot of the buildings are not tall perse', but the "density" is really growing. On West End Avenue, directly west of the CBD and urban core, the density is getting thick. There are dozens of buildings in the 10-18 story range giving Nashville a "second" skyline. Nashville has a county population of almost 600,000 and a MSA of almost 1.6 million.
Not only is Nashville home to country music and the Tennessee Titans our NFL team, but we also have the Nashville Predators our NHL franchise and 13 colleges and universities in the downtown area. We have almost 20 hospitals making us the healthcare center of the south, and 10 major banks and dozens of printing plants and book publishing companies.
Nashville was voted the Number 1 transfer city in the USA for companies wanting to move, and we are listed in the top 20 metro's in the USA.

I love Nashville. Downtown is awesome for a city its size, and I don't have any problem whatsoever with the architecture. I give it an 8 out of 10.
Arch Madness, I have to wonder what the hell country music has to do with a skyline and the subsequent rating system above? Just how are those two things interconnected? I am not a huge country fan, (but I don't dislike it either), but to throw that comment into the mix when zeroing in on an opinion of buildings, their architectural value, and the size and density of any downtown anywhere, just seems weird to me. Sorry.

i_am_hydrogen May 26th, 2005, 08:20 AM 7/10 - I've driven through Nashville a few times, and the skyline really surprised me.
doormanpoet May 29th, 2005, 04:52 AM Nashville will be breaking ground again with an 18 story 300 foot building called the Adelicia. It is a condo project in the West End area that will increase the height of the "secondary" skyline.

doormanpoet June 21st, 2005, 04:31 AM Just wait until next year at this time when the Viridian is finished and part of the skyline! The New Suntrust Plaza should be all the way up, just not finished yet, and there may be changes to the Suntrust Bank Tower which there is talk of adding a 100 foot spire on top since it was recently sold.

SDfan July 4th, 2005, 05:19 AM Attractive I must say. Im used to seeing short skylines, and this has IMO one of the better ones. Is there a height limit in Nashville?
8/10
Eddy Gordo July 17th, 2005, 10:47 PM i give it a 9 cuz, its Cashville. 8)
davinSA July 28th, 2005, 06:25 AM My score is a 4.5. Was there just last week. Enjoyed 21st street! :)
doormanpoet August 7th, 2005, 06:41 PM There is no height limit. The Bellsouth is the tallest at 617 feet. 660 with spires. The new Signature Tower will be 700 feet. Since the costs of building a tower above 30 stories gets exponential, Nashville has always toned it down a bit. If they went for height, we would have half the buildings we do.
doormanpoet August 7th, 2005, 06:54 PM Also, they start work on another 18 story condo called the ICON. Part of it will be 21 stories. There is also a bid out for 5 22 story towers downtown as part of a new residential project. In the next 2 years we may see as many as 6-10 new 18-55 story towers go up at the same time! Its a great time to be in Nashville.
LouisvilleJake August 23rd, 2005, 03:43 AM Nashville just doesn't do it for me. I dislike BellSouth and i think it is fairly bland. 6/10

Atlman1 August 31st, 2005, 05:34 AM Awesome city to visit. The skyline is good and has a lot of potential in the future to really stand out among Southern cities. BellSouth tower is nice. That building would be awesome in DT Atlanta or Midtown. Charlotte might have an edge over it currently, but I think Nashville will soon be ahead.
Dancer August 31st, 2005, 08:03 AM That Bell South building looks like a super tower that was chopped off. 5

And also, another tower has been announced, the 417 foot Crown.
will.exe September 3rd, 2006, 04:46 AM I love Nashville, wonderful city, id give it a 9/10 for the city easily...but on a global scale the skyline merits only a 6.5.

that's some dumbassery there...i guess you dislike nearly all of the world's skylines because few cities have supertalls. :ohno:
Nashville does has a supertall planned (Signature Tower, at about 1050 feet.)
-
Maxim98 December 6th, 2006, 02:36 AM Supertall or not, Nashville isn't dense and isn't attractive.
It is barely a top 20 American skyline. Very mediocre. The height isn't remarkable and the composition of the city scape isn't noteworthy. It will greatly benefit from the new super tall (if) it is build, if that is any consolation.

Middle-Island October 18th, 2007, 06:33 AM Very modern and attractive. The Bell South looks like a creation out of Dubai or Shanghai. Enough sleekly styled buildings in Nashville to keep it from being a trainwreck.
8.0
WonderlandPark October 18th, 2007, 06:39 AM Sorry, went with a 4. I personally hate the "batman" building. The rest of the skyline is pretty meh for a great city, otherwise. Indy is roughly the same size, and their skyline is a beautiful tall and dense cluster. Since this is about the skyline, not walkability, or transit, then, this really is a 4-5 skyline. If you get the signature, then the skyline will go way up.

po-boy June 16th, 2011, 04:43 AM 7.0 I think this is a really nice skyline for the size of the city. There is not a lot of height, but it is nicely massed and looks good from multiple angles. The Batman Building gives it an icon that stands out from other cities with similar size and the river setting is nice. I also like the Pinnacle building which I don't think is shown in any of these pics.

UrbanMyth June 17th, 2011, 03:46 AM Better than Raleigh and Memphis but not any where near Charlotte or Atlanta. The ATT building is pretty wonderful. 6/10
SydneyCity June 17th, 2011, 09:06 AM 7.5/10 not bad.
ssiguy2 June 19th, 2011, 04:49 AM For a city the size of Nashville it's quite a descent skyline. It has some good height but also the skyline is very balanced with a lot of interesting and unique building types and designs.
kingchef June 20th, 2011, 11:16 PM i think, for the size of the downtown and the recent work that has been done, it gets about 5 out of a 10. it really is a small downtown.
rocket9561 July 2nd, 2011, 09:50 PM We need a new picture with our newest skyscraper: The Pinnacle.

JRQ July 4th, 2011, 03:57 AM Okay, I know I'm gonna sound dumb...but has that been completed, or is it a rendering? Take my questioning as a compliment, because the reflective glass is beautiful. That really added to the skyline quite a bit.
The_Fox July 5th, 2011, 05:07 AM Nashville is a nice place, but you have to look for where the fun is, otherwise it is as someone said, unremarkable and boring. Three or four streets hold the monopoly over major attractions and everything else is dispersed across the city.

^ I'll give this comment a 1.5. Nashville is boring ... if you're overstimulated.
