My favorite building in all of Houston. From a distance, the building appears as an icon of optimism and hope for the future. I share a strong attachment to this structure because of its isolation and height over the other buildings. To me, it is humanity's beacon for progress.

9/10 - Because the vertical setbacks give it great soaring height, and I'm a sucker for sleek, shiny glass curtain wall facades....In fact, this one owes an architectural debt to the Empire State Building, I think...Especially good use of smaller sebacks to bring the tower gracefully up to the roof.
My only quibbles would have to be that unimaginative little box that's trying to be the crown, while screaming "I'm hiding service machinery!", and which isn't worthy of the rest of the tower. Then there's the base, which seems a bit blocky and uninspired.
Still, though, a really good looking tower!

the box thingy you speak of is a spot light that rotate at night. you can see it from about 20-30 miles away.

Replying to an old comment here, but I get the feeling that others will/have expressed this sentiment. Williams Tower is located in Uptown Houston, also known as the Galleria area.

Uptown Houston is far from the middle of nowhere, but I do understand that most people expect skyscrapers of Williams Tower's stature to be located in a central buisness district, but Uptown Houston is one of the nation's prominent buisness district that boasts not just upwards of 20 million sq. ft of office space, but various general consulates, the largest concentration of hotel rooms in the 6 million+ region of Greater Houston, as well as serving as the premier fashion/retail center in Houston, anchored by one of the nation's largest malls, the enourmous Houston Galleria. So middle of nowhere, I think not.

I like this tall tower. Sleek and powerful looking without the tacky trimmings that are so common of today's buildings.

Wish it was in downtown Houston, but its not so it has the title of tallest building outside a downtown to add to its beauty.:)
