Hi everybody! I was browsing thru youtube when I found this video of QNB Headquarters Building in Doha! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TbTdOKSQAj8). It was posted one week ago. The video doesn't contain any factual info though, although the Atkins logo appears, and the architect's name: James Noble.
I remember the former proposal was cancelled. So logically this is the new one? If anybody has any info about it please share!
Personally I LOVE this proposal ;)

Some screen shots from the video :) :

I think it is more than 70 floors ...

For some reason the link did not work ...

So I embedded the video here under ....

Yes Suzan, this is the picture of it, but it was cancelled because of economical reasons.

Thanks Bert for the find! I find the music to the most amusing part of the whole video. The tower looks like a Florida '50's concrete slab apartment building--nothing very creative in the design.

I think that the current Qatar Tower (Jean Nouvele) building is destined to the future HQ of QNB. Isn't it?

I mean the music and that so called "structural concept" are enough for QNB to refuse this proposal and look for another design! :D

Guys, works have begun on the plot of land in front of Al Nasr Twin Towers next to Commercial Bank Tower. As this plot belongs to Qatar National Bank, rumour is that ongoing works are for QNB Tower. It's said that top QNB employees have received an email with the render of a 115-floor tower. This is only gossip but I just wanted to spread it :D hehe...anyway let's see but there is a big chance this development is for QNB anyway.

Some very good news in that article :D

Qatar National Bank set to build high-rise head office on Doha Corniche

Headquarters building for Qatar National Bank will be 510 metres tall.

Qatar National Bank (QNB) plans to build its new headquarters to a height of 510 metres on Doha Corniche, making it one of the world's tallest towers and the latest in a series of skyscraper projects in the city.

If it goes ahead, it will be taller than the 509-metre Taipei 101 tower in Taiwan, which is the world's tallest completed building. However, the Burj Dubai in the UAE will become the world's tallest building when it is completed in 2009. It is expected to be 815 metres high.

The QNB project is being split into three packages. One involves enabling works, installing a diaphragm wall, excavation and piling. It is already on site and is scheduled for completion in February 2009.

Selected contractors have been invited to express interest in the largest package, which is for the construction of the shell and core of the 61-floor building.

Tenders are expected in September, with an award in January. The package involves building the concrete substructure, basements, structural steel and curtain walling, as well as the installation of lifts, escalators and the mechanical, electrical and plumbing works.

It will have a total built-up area of 235,000 square metres, with five basement levels, 88,000 sq m of parking, 9,000 sq m for the entrance and banking halls, and 138,000 sq m of office space.

The other package, also to be tendered this year, will be to fit out the buildings. This involves the internal walls, partitions, doors and screens, raised access floors, toilets, furniture and finishings. The project manager is the local office of KEO International Consultants. The architect is Australia's Peddle Thorp Architects.

The QNB headquarters building is part of a trend that will result in the city becoming home to some of the tallest towers in the world over the next five to 10 years.

Abu Dhabi-based Al-Jaber Group plans to build a 100-floor tower on Doha Corniche. The mixed-use building will include residential and office space, together with a luxury hotel. Chicago-based SOM is the architect.Negotiations are also under way for the $250m Doha World Trade Centre tower. Australia's Multiplex is understood to be in talks with Qatar General Insurance & Reinsurance Company for the contract to build the tower.

The project, which will be located close to the convention centre on Doha Corniche, involves the construction of a 55-floor building with four levels of parking and a total built-up area of 140,000 sq m.

Bahrain-based Projacs is the project manager (MEED 9:7:08).

A fourth tower is planned by Qatari Diar Real Estate Investment Company as part of its Doha Convention Centre development. It will be at least 400 metres high and will have a built-up area of 180,000 sq m. It will contain a hotel, apartments and shops.

The US' Murphy Jahn prepared the concept designs for the project and US-based Turner Construction International is the project manager.

Four groups shortlisted for Qatar National Bank tower

Published: 16 October 2008 09:01 GMT Author: Colin Foreman More by this Author Last Updated: 16 October 2008 19:09

At least four contracting groups have been shortlisted for the contract to build the 510-metre tall Qatar National Bank (QNB) headquarters in Doha. When complete the tower will be one of the tallest buildings in the world.
The groups are a joint venture of Dubai-based Al-Habtoor Engineering Enterprises with Australia's Gulf Leighton, Dubai-based Arabtec Construction, Lebanon's Qatar Arabian Construction Company (ACC), and Australia's Multiplex.

The four groups have been shortlisted for the largest package on the project: the shell and core of the 61-floor building.

^^ you're absolutely right! :)

Qatar National Bank tenders Doha corniche skyscraper

Firms have until 10 September to bid for contract to build high-rise headquarters.

Qatar National Bank (QNB) is inviting bids from prequalified contractors to build what will be the tallest building in Qatar, and one of the largest skyscrapers in the world.

Firms have until 10 September to submit bids to build the bank's 101-storey, 510-metre tall headquarters building on the Doha corniche.

Firms prequalifying to bid include Lebanon's Qatari Arabian Construction Company (ACC); the Australian/UAE Al-Habtoor Leighton Group; a joint venture of the local Midmac Contracting Company and Belgium's Six Construct; Australia's Multiplex; and South Korea's Samsung Corporation (MEED 8:8:08).

The consultancy team includes Doha-based KEO International Consultants as the project manager and Australia's Peddle Thorp Architects.

Contractors originally expected the tender to be issued in September last year, but say it was delayed because of the global financial crisis. The subsequent fall in construction costs across the Gulf will lower the cost of the project.

"It was due out towards the end of last year, but I think QNB and all the other banks were more concerned about what was going on with the financial system then," one contractor considering bidding for the project tells MEED. "From the client's point of view, there are probably some cost benefits too. Prices have come down."

Developers in Abu Dhabi say that tender prices are now about 30 per cent lower than they were in the third quarter of last year, as material prices have fallen and contractors have cut their margins to secure work.

The project is the only major tower scheme to be tendered in Doha this year, as developers have put plans for a series of other high-rise buildings on hold.

However, unlike in nearby Dubai, where many projects have been cancelled because developers can no longer afford to build them, the schemes in Qatar are likely to go ahead.

Qatari Diar Real Estate Investment Company has delayed the 400-metre-tall tower it planned to build as part of its Doha Convention Centre development, partly so that it can benefit from further falls in prices.

The project's prequalifiers included Multiplex, Samsung and Japan's Taisei Corporation. The US' Murphy Jahn prepared the concept designs and US-based Turner Construction International is the project manager.

Abu Dhabi-based Al-Jaber Group has also delayed plans for a skyscraper on the corniche. It had planned to build a 100-floor tower, but has delayed the scheme while the design is reviewed to make sure it caters to the new market conditions. US-based SOM is the architect.

If the QNB project goes ahead, the 101-storey tower will be higher than the 509-metre Taipei 101 tower in Taiwan, which is currently the world's tallest completed building. The 818-metre tall Burj Dubai in the UAE will become the world's tallest building when it is opened in September 2009.

The development of towers in Qatar has been restricted in the past by limits on the height of developments close to Doha International airport's flight path.

However, these will be lifted when New Doha International airport opens in 2011.

I believe Chicago Spire, which located in Chicago city,IL, will be the second with 600 m high. it's on hold but they already finished underground works and it going to be built very soon.

A 510-metre tower with only 61 floors? You are looking at some extreme floor-to-ceiling heights. How about the floor count is increased to about 100, unless the design does not permit it.

On some sites, it says 100 Floors. So really we know NOTHING about this project.

Its been under tendering for quite sometime now. BNC, ProLeads have all not changed their Bidding/Tender status since Jan 2010.

But on the positive side, I hear that no high rise in Qatar has been cancelled, they have just been put on hold until Dec 2011 for the Airport to start operations.

well there is no location for skyscrapers in Lusail, only the marina will host 100 towers and these 100 towers will be no higher than 200 m !!! i believe !!

It doesn't have to be that tall!! and i'm pretty sure that they're gonna change the design according to an article that i have read before

this is one of the rules that I didnt like in Lusail. why would they force you to have 50% glass only !!!!

QNB tower definitely not going anywhere - the hole is being filled up and no effort is being made to protect the piles...

For some time the hole was actually filled with water - now they have some pumps so the water level is no longer as high as previously. (note the "high tide" marks on the photo below...)

sorry for the bad pic - ignore the reflections of table and my colleages... http://i49.************/es6cft.jpg
