View Full Version : Tampa Casinos??
tamparican January 22nd, 2007, 04:40 AM Are the Hard Rock Cafe and the Derby race track the only casino/gaming centers around here?...What are the chances of any future casinos here? or is that slim to NONE since there are no tribes in DT tampa obviously???
Maxim98 January 22nd, 2007, 04:50 AM I think all the reservation land is taken by casinos, so don't expect many more.
tamparican January 22nd, 2007, 05:04 AM well there goes that!...any chance of anyone building up the HR CAFE anymore there seems to be a whole another area of opportunity around there from what i see...Theres that Hillsborough park by exit 10 i think, then theres the Ford Ampitheater and the cafe??
Maxim98 January 22nd, 2007, 05:06 AM Maybe, but their land is pretty full as is. They would need to expand on the garage. I doubt it. There isn't enough space to purchase and build a new HR cafe.
tamparican January 22nd, 2007, 05:14 AM Alright, but i mean if the HR cafe cant be built up anymore, how about the surrounding land, i havent really actually been through it but the few times I have driven past all i see towards that side of town, is the casino the theater and that about sums it up, what if that whole area was built up a little more of an entertainment district to..or is there pretty much no land to build up at all around that area??
FloridaFuture January 22nd, 2007, 12:00 PM Well there area always the boat casinos that go out into the gulf.

Not really, honestly...
HR is boarded by I-4, Hillsborough, and Orient. Orient is a smaller road, but the adjacent land is residential property and even across the street from the HR on Hillsborough has recently been redeveloped into low-income residential. It's fairly landlocked as it is. The fairgrounds always has some space to expand, but at the expense of losing additional grounds. Quite frankly, it's a scummy area and further redevelopment into a new destination is hopeless. :ohno:
tamparican January 23rd, 2007, 04:43 AM well that sucks, its always good for a city to have multiple options as to entertainment districts. It would have been real nice to be able to have that section with the casino and a few other things, I guess we will just have to be happy with the HR
tampamobster21 January 24th, 2007, 06:35 AM Is there even a chance in hell of them putting a Hard Rock Cafe downtown?
moxwax January 24th, 2007, 07:03 AM Is there even a chance in hell of them putting a Hard Rock Cafe downtown?
There's a chance, but only when downtown starts seeing a LOT of tourists. In other words, not for at least a few more years...
tamparican January 25th, 2007, 02:58 AM I thought for a casino to be built, it has to be on a reservation land?

Yea.
Hard Rock Casino and Hard Rock Cafe are separate entities; the latter doesn't have a casino aspect.
tamparican January 25th, 2007, 05:28 AM ok gotcha...
MIAballinboi January 25th, 2007, 09:34 PM ^yea, gambling is only legal @ some horse tracks and indian land, which is like a seperate country, so exempt from the florida law.
or else on boats that go outside of florida waters i think its like 3 mi in atlantic, and 12 in gulf.. :)

Another hotel tower will be added soon at the Hard Rock Casino and they will also add a 'Hard Rock Cafe' which they currently do not have. The casino will also add blackjack, roulette, and craps tables (which from my understanding will also be added to the casino in Hollywood,Fl)... this information comes from my gf who works at the casino
tampamobster21 January 27th, 2007, 08:33 PM They need to move the cafe to downtown. We also need a House of Blues downtown.
tamparican January 27th, 2007, 08:39 PM Those additions are def good, anything to make it even better, and i def agree the HR cafe should be in DT by channelside. I feel it would actually even complement each other better those who visit the HR cafe but havent been to the casino, might feel inclined to do so, vice-versa.. Together they would draw a stronger connection to the casino and DT .
tampamobster21 January 27th, 2007, 08:44 PM I feel that if they were here the Tampa Bay area would get more recognition with artists and other people so that things would just start to happen, but I am pipe dreaming.
tamparican January 27th, 2007, 08:49 PM Thats exactly why i say WE SHOULD DEF put it in DT as when the stars and everyone else comes down to town and stops by , they might not even make it to the casino itself, with all of the action going on around DT, channelside itself. But I too am pipe dreaming
Jasonhouse January 28th, 2007, 01:49 AM from what I understand, there was a chance to put the Seminole casino DT a while back, and the BOCC screwed it up for the community.
Maxim98 January 28th, 2007, 01:53 AM A new hotel tower at HR? Where exactly do they plan on building it? Heh. They are digging around now on what used to be the bus entrance outside of it, but there is hardly enough room on the plot they are toying with to add something substantial. Would they build on part of the existing lot? I suppose anything is possible. The place already lacks class, so no shame in putting a few more gaudy buildings around the campus, hehe.
The sovereignty aspect fascinates me. As I go to school in the same area, I see Seminole plates all the time. They even have a cute little police force :-P
FloridaFuture January 28th, 2007, 02:27 AM ^^If it's possible they could put a tower on top of the white, plain casino building.

That's a possibility, or they could build it in the parking lot, with another garage to balance out the parking they would lose building it.
tampamobster21 January 28th, 2007, 10:47 PM Or put the tower on top of the parking garage and create a skybridge to the other building.

The 2nd tower will be built behind the casino where there is currently a valet/employee parking lot
Jersey Boy January 30th, 2007, 05:42 AM I have heard the same and confirm. The hard rock will be expanding with another tower and adding vegas style gaming at some point in the near future. The quickest change in regards to gaming will be the removal of the bingo style slot machines being replaced with real Level III vegas style slot machines.
