No hurry to the oversea people.:)

The renewal of the Macau Identity Cards of Permanent Residents into a smart ID form is due to end on 9 February.

In an Identification Bureau press conference, the officials announced that a total of 479,112 residents have had their ID cards renewed, or 90% of the population.

According to the statistics available, 137,548 ID card holders begin their numbers with "7" (those who were issued with the Macau Identity Cards by the Public Security Police before 1992), 149,288 begin with "5" (those who are Portuguese identity cards holders), 192,276 holders begin with "1" (those who were first issued with Macau identity cards in 1992, and those who were born after 1992).

The old form of the Macau Residents' Identity Cards will cease to function from 8 August.

However, those who are working or studying abroad are not required to return to Macau immediately to have their old ID cards renewed. They can renew their documents whenever they happened to return to the territory.

The old ID cards will still be valid for them to enter Macau.

Meanwhile, an SMS service will be launched to provide telephone numbers of the mainland Chinese consulates and embassies abroad when Macau residents are travelling to the US, Canada, the UK, France, Portugal, Italy, Germany, Thailand and Singapore, from 1 February.

The service will only be provided to CTM customers who also have opted for billing in Chinese language.

The Bureau explained that the other two operators cannot provide the same service because of their technical difficulties.

I still have the non-expired (there is no expiration date on it) ID card:lol: . But I guess I'd better change it next time when I go back.
