Emporis Notes:
- The building is oriented with the narrow side facing Grant Park, which minimizes the building's apparent mass from the most common vantage point while providing lake and park views to all unit owners.
- The building is being developed by the same team that built The Heritage at Millennium Park two blocks north.
- Three low-rise loft buildings on Wabash Avenue will be restored as part of this development. The tower will rise on the back part of the lot, set back from the landmark buildings' facades.
- This project was unanimously approved by the Chicago Plan Commission on May 19, 2005.
Status: 65% sold, Demolition started 7-5-06.

Three posts and 126 views. Ouch.

Regardless, this one will be a stunner as long as they dont go LakeshoreEast on us with the glass.

Pure elegance that respects and updates the Michigan Ave streetwall.

The Legacy's transition to the under construction phase is instructive. The first half or so of the latest Chicago boom was marred--I mean marked--by the construction of a lot of non-descript, tan highrises in River North developed by Loewenberg, to wit: Grand Plaza. Yes, there were some highlights: Hyatt, UBS, The Heritage, 1 S Dearborn, Sofitel, and a few others. But this more recent portion of the boom is particularly amazing, considering that we have a number of truly transformative buildings afoot. Trump, Waterview, Legacy, One Museum Park, 600 N Fairbanks, Elysian, 300 N Lasalle, 600 N LSD, MoMo, 550 N St. Clair, as well as some other projects soon to be under construction: One Museum Park West, Aqua, 353 N Clark, and Staybridge Suites. Let the good times roll...

Let the good times roll...

Reminds me of a song from the title tract from the Blues Brother movie.

I heard Papa tell Mamma let that boy Boggie Boggie

Let the good times roll. Let the good times roll. Let the good times roll.

Radio static and then fade away.

There's plenty of interest in this building. It's going to completely dominate people's view from Grant Park, and will reshape the skyline from other angles as well. I can't wait to experience how this tower may or may not alter the vibe that you get from the Michigan Ave. streetwall.

This is a very exciting tower! :cheers1:

Finally it has started. BTW this is not cooler than the Boston Hancock - that is one the finest postwar towers in the world, the epitome of glassy modernism. I'll put the Park Michigan up there if & when it is built.

I really like that rendering there. But it looks different to me, from the picture of the floor-plates on May 22. I was surprised to see in those pictures that the Western side of the building was wider.

Is this tower actually 40 centimetres shorter than Aqua, as I just found out. This tower should add one more floor probaly and have even 72 number of floors.

but that is just too predictable, I say boost the height with 4 half-floors every 18th story, this brings the total floor count to 74 floors

in all honesty, this building is a Silent Vigilante, not a supertall, but with a facade like that, and that height, this building is gonna catch alotta people by surprise when they see it finally T/O.

Funny thing...

I read somme people say that if a building like Greenland Plaza - NANJING - (450m) where built in Chicago (or other big city), the interest would be much, much higher, with many more replies.

Still... here we have a 250m tower in Chicago, that provide somme medium interest, tough a 250m building in Paris or London would have tons of replies.

P.S.
Great building. The location is

Harry - I think the crane you mention is the BCBS expansion, not Legacy - If you look close, you can see the boom of the other crane and the 1 Pru Plaza spire right in front - besides it is too far N to be Legacy - since top of CT&T building is right in front of crane.

Not only do you get accustomed to the noise - and it never was bad above the 5th floor - now we have quieter tracks.

Rubber bushings to mount the rails, and new ties made out of recycled plastic.

I would never live next to a highway (had the opportunity), I have spent many years next to the El. It may be noisy, but it is clean, no exhaust.

Fab trance music indeed! :)
I'm surprised this building hasn't received greater attention. It's going to be sleek, glossy, tall, and when viewed from the right angle, thin. It has nothing to match its height in the immediate area and will look quite sharp seen from the lake side. It's very much the "quiet achiever".

^Those photos of yours above would suggest that the angle of the facade is changing again. Am I seeing things?

Have we reached the final mini-setback?

I love the facade of this tower. In the day it's nice and reflective and at night it takes on an ominous, dark glow...so sexy.

I really love this building. I think if it where 20 more stories if would look much better in the skyline. It just looks like it should be a little taller. I guess that's just my opinion.

This is a quick composite I did with JC5680's image (hope you don't mind JC) - I think I might be one floor too tall...We'll see I guess.
