Barwa Financial District, as it is translated from Arabic, is to be built by the City Center and will become a regional buisness and financial hub in Doha.
Here is the image from Salman's discussion thread.

In Arabic it says by سيتي سنترwhich means that its by the mall, not the old doha. But imagine if it was in Al-Sadd. It would be so great for the people.

I think superinfiniti is right. They meant the City's center... But for another reason. The one in the West Bay is called City Centre, in UK English :) and it's a trademark so they won't write it the other way round (US English).
So, by writing City Center, they meant Doha's center! :D

No, I am pretty sure it was City Center Mall. Its an Arabic daily. If they meant downtown Doha, they would've mentioned the exact location like Doha Jaddeda, or Al-Sadd, or whatever.

theres a big barwa project up by the intercon, but still nobody knows what that project is...

January 27th, 2007, 04:36 PM
Yeah, theres no project board up at all. I was there today and there is a steel structure being bolted together there, I did see them working on the pilings for something a couple of months back, but this isn't going to be tall at all.
It's anyones guess at this point.
However, further down, next to the wonderfully rubbish Aladdins Kingdom, they are building something to do with the Intercon, they have begun foundation and piling work there and have moved all the rocks on the sae front to expose the cores, so it looks like they are going to remove them and build up the beach area for either an extention to the Intercons range of facilities. I'd guess a spa and villa style accomodation might be on the cards there.

Barwa Financial District
The Future Starts Here
Doha; a city that is ushering in the future! A location that is celebrating a diversifying economy, one that is moving away from its dependency on the oil and natural gas industries; an economy that is among the 10 richest in the world and growing on average 10% per annum. These amazing characteristics have placed Doha on the map as the metropolis of tomorrow and the financial hub of the future.
A city of this caliber needs matchless services and superlative infrastructure. It also needs credible, confident partners to join it, in its high speed development drive; Partners who are skilled at anticipating the velocity of the nation growth, and have the capability to come up with creative solutions that match the growing needs of the country. And this is where the Barwa Financial District comes in.
Project at a glance
The Barwa Financial District is a giant project conceptualized to serve the global, regional and local financial sector. The Financial District will house facilities attracting regional and international banks seeking specialized infrastructure to benefit from. But that is not all the Financial District is to be. In keeping with the philosophy of the parent company Barwa, the Financial District will serve as a 360 degree real estate solution. Barwa takes pride in building for communities and as such considers it a personal responsibility to provide comprehensively for the needs of each individual who will inhabit their spaces. The focus of Barwa development solutions is always and at every turn, the needs of the end user. Putting up buildings is not what Barwa is about; but designing, constructing and developing intelligent living and working solutions on behalf of people is what Barwa thrives on.
The future tenants, owners and visitors of the Financial District will enjoy facilities in the likes of luxury hotels, state of the art conference centers, retail stores housing international brands and service solutions that provide up market merchandise and services of all forms. The Financial District has been planned to anticipate and cater to every need of those who will live and work in it, use it or visit it. A place of worship, ample parking and loading zones, green walkways, terraced restaurants, lounges and coffee shops are just a few other comforts and necessities that have been designed specifically with the end user in mind.
Intelligent Planning at its Best
The Financial District is an ensemble complex, of ten state of the art buildings grouping individual and adjacent buildings together in a harmonious blend of architectural excellence and is primed to be a leading destination in Qatar. The buildings in this group of ten, average 20 to 25 floors per structure and will be built on an approximate land mass of 380,000 plus sq.m . Crowning the Barwa Financial District is its 45 story high tower which is well on its way to being one of Doha’s landmark sights and an icon of the city’s skyline. Barwa is also delighted that this ensemble complex will also be among the 1st certified sustainably designed construction in the Middle East region.
The Barwa Financial District will be located in the new business city of Doha, West Bay. Cosmopolitan West Bay holds, government and ministerial offices, an up-market residential area, major shopping malls. In choosing a suitable site for the Financial District Barwa handpicked a location that is a mere 20 minutes away from the Doha International Airport. This decision for instance, was led by Barwa’s keen awareness of how precious a commodity time is, to global and regional business players.
The site for the Financial District has an approximate square area of 71, 600 plus sq. m and is situated along Majlis Al Taawon Street with secondary roads surrounding the perimeter allowing access to it from multiple sides. Like traditional Arabic architecture the Business center opens to the inside. Since architecture for banks and financial institutions call for transparency the Financial District employs designs characterized by glass, chrome, stainless steel, and premium ceramics and stone detail.
Built today for those who will inherit tomorrow.
The project planners spent endless hours going into every minute detail of the Financial District. Beginning from the choice of selecting the right raw materials and balancing it with the harmony in design, analyzing the feel of each surface and committing to a finish that personifies excellence, the team went over every centimeter of the Financial District with single minded devotion. The futuristic buildings of the project have willfully and creatively captured nature’s advantages by making the sun, wind, water, and air work as complementary elements that contribute to the atmosphere within. Integration of the building’s structures into the eco system by accessing solar and wind potential, shaded and landscaped spaces that facilitate a free and natural flow of air, effective use of passive solar energy, efficient thermal retention and heat recovery, imaginative use of vegetation crafted into to soothing green recreation spaces, and creative capture of solar access in winter are but a few of the designer delights that the project engineers are unwrapping as part of the project’s gift to the community.
The engineer’s goal was to design and develop an ensemble of buildings that went beyond being a mega real estate project. Their commitment was to deliver a state of the art solution to a high rise, global financial community; A community who were not just serving the requirements of today but anticipating the needs of tomorrow and excelling at providing for both.
The project extends to include the provision of high level services related to the financial and banking solutions, such as financing, insurance and foreign banks (offshore banks) and international consultation agencies specialized in different areas, such as auditing offices , attorney and legal consultation bodies .

Mixed-use Towers, Doha, Qatar
Designed for a compact, prominent site along Doha’s high-profile corniche business district, this proposed development includes below-grade parking, a hotel and condominium tower, above-grade parking structure, eight floors of offices, and rooftop banquet and conference facilities.
Working in collaboration with PDI, the design of this scheme began with an investigation of modern and vernacular architectural forms of the Arabian peninsula, as well as an analysis of solar exposure and seaward views. The resulting design employs a series of perforated metal veils that shade the curtain wall towers from the blazing desert sun and evoke traditional screen patterns. The fan-like organization of rooms in the hotel and residential tower capitalizes on the sweeping views of the sea. At the center of the scheme, a lacey, white metal minaret emerges out of the hotel lobby that operates both as a symbol and as a unique vantage point for observing the rapidly growing city of Doha.

US firms start work on Qatar building projects
A joint venture of two US-based project management firms has started work on three construction projects in Qatar worth $2.9bn.
The joint venture will work with Qatar Project Management Company (QPM), which manages projects on behalf of Barwa Real Estate and Qatari Diar Real Estate Investment Company.
The three projects that Hill International and Louis Berger will manage are the $1.3bn Barwa City, the $1.3bn Barwa Financial District, which includes nine high-rise office towers, a five-star hotel, retail shopping and a conference centre; and the $300m Barwa Building Material Factories, which is a manufacturing complex in Doha.
Barwa Real Estate Company set up QPM to manage its projects and those of Qatari Diar Real Estate Investment Company.
The two companies have schemes in Qatar such as Barwa al-Khor and Lusail, and 20 other schemes in the Middle East and the rest of the world.
They include mixed-use developments, high-rise commercial towers, residential schemes, hotels and resorts.

will they made the road inside 4 lanes but we still need more help in terms of traffic and parking.... more parking space should increase by atleast 20,000 cars by 2015 and roads that are 2 lanes become 3 and the ones that are 3 become 4.... especially the corniche road and other near by roads such as istiqlal road..

well, yea agree on the west bay point you made, however they're planning for it. The sheraton park for instanse, wouldn't there be an underground parking lot under it to serve the area?! . .i'm sure i read something about that somewhere.
About this project, i think 5000 is enough (of course as qatarson said the more the better), but i believe the high tower is gonna be used as a hotel & i'm sure many tourists won't be using private cars for transportation . . .
