This thing is definitely on hold now. The people building this thing haven't even chosen the main contractor and once they do it'll definitely take some time for them to move onto the site and get ready. A few months of on hold I think

In the real DAMAC style, they are preparing for a looooong wait till the main contractor tender is done and they move in and mobilise the work force on the site.

totally blow me away. a lot of chinese skyscrapers cacelled due to dead headed chinese goverment(they hate high building and wide road, those old man), so i put the hope on dubai!

Since the pile caps are already cut, if Arabtec will indeed arrive on monday, it will not be long since we will start seing a visible progress in here.

Just a reminder: ARABTEC is part of the J/V that is constructing BURJ DUBAI.

all these nice towers should not be clumped together. This tower looks sooo much better in the rendering where its standing alone.

^^ Is not really on hold since they finally got the contractor to build it, ARABTEC, one of the builders of Burj Dubai. However we have to see how long it will take them to mobylise on site.

I'm not an expert, but I don't think they will. They look too close together. It would make the hotel rooms too crowded. The positioning of those foundations is strange, they don't seem to be in any kind of order, it looks as though they are just randomly scattered around the place.

Are there any pro's that know whether this is due to construction difficulties or is there an engineering reason why they are placed as they are?

no ^^. the columns will be covered with steel and then concrete comes. after that it will begin to rise

The piles are there to support the raft foundation and to distribute the weight of the tower to the ground. They aren't neccessarily related to the positioning of the building's columns.

I hate the podiums...it would look so much better without them....imagine only the towers without bases and podiums.

I don't hate them, but It gets real old when EVERY tower in the tallest block has one.

Why does every building there have a podium? Seems strange.

^^ Becouse they are being build on beach sand not far from the sea and putting all the parking floors underground, it will mean digging and start building from 40 - 50 meters down and that will be extremely expensive even if water was not a problem.

Great progress here on this one. About the podiums; I sort of feel like they are more usual in all of Dubai than normal - not just on the beach?

^^ Entire city seats on sand and underground water is a problem everywhere

to be honest, connecting those podiums is a godsend to Urbanity and planning. Would look (and function) ALOT worse without them.

How come this building is so difficult to build? I saw something about this on the previous forums for this building.

^^What does that mean? I read that it was something to do with the buildings twist, but there are other buildings out there with much greater twists. What makes this one so different? :)

^^ the fact that the company after it is DAMAC!!!!!!!!its damn slow in constructing its buildings.....

This tower took forever and a day to get started. But once the main contractor showed up, it has been good speed. As long as Damac keeps paying the bills to the main contractor, I don't think it will be too slow...Damac doesn't actually do the building...it's the paperwork and stuff they seem to be very slow at.

Very cool design. I like it.

A most attractive design. My only objection is the dumb ass name: Ocean Heights. What does that mean? Since when does the ocean have heights? "The Ocean Waves" ... "The Ocean Tides" ... "The Blue Ocean" ... "The Ocean View" - these all make sense. Land can have "heights" because there are hills, highlands, ridges and mountains. Therefore you can say "I live in Kishinev Heights" meaning you live in that part of the city of Kishinev that is on higher ground and (presumably) overlooks the rest of the city. Why not call it "Ocean Hills" which also doesn't make sense??!!!

I heard from Erik who lives next door (Marina Crown) that usually there are lots of workers on site and they are working day and night. I hope today was an exception. However, they seemed to have slowed down a bit, maybe they started concentrating on the floors rather than the core at the moment? :?

It is weird that such little visible progress has been made since the last update especially with eye witness accounts of many workers on site unless they're trying to fix something which has gone wrong or prevent something heretofore unforseen. So it's proof now that construction is going on at full speed, if you look at all the lil' men in blue... But they're mostly working at the podium, that's why the core doesn't rise quickly.

^^Does anyone know what the grey strips are that are below the upper rebar?

Normally i would think that there has to be rebar as well. Is this some variation on the stnadard rebar?

great updates. Nice progress. Interresting to see the steps in the core of the building. Looks like a 100% optimum structural design. Can't wait to see how the shape of the floors looks like if they have like 50 floors done.

Dubai: Damac Properties announced that its Ocean Heights residential tower project has reached the 14th level.

Ocean Heights is one of the many freehold towers being built in the Dubai Marina, which is located opposite the Le Meridian Mina El Seyahi. Ocean Heights will be a 310-metre, 82-storey tower, with 680 apartments.

The Dh1.5 billion ($408m) freehold residential tower will contain 1-, 2- and 3-bedroom apartment units and will feature 9 units of Signature Series Apartments from the 67th to the 75th floor, and duplex apartments from the 76th to the 81st floor.

I told you this will soon surpass The Princess, Marina23 and The Torch that started construction of the main structure many months before. The contractor building it is the same one (ARABTEC) that is bulding also Burj Dubai in partnership with Korean Samsung (and also Belgian/UAE BeSix) :cheers:

For some reason this succeeds where the Dynamic Tower fails. I mean, the lines are just more pleasing. It seems almost like two hands in prayer, if you squint.

Aren't there other new highrises going up around town that curve the way this one does? Dubai will look like a fleet of giant sailboats in silhouette-- NTTAWWT.

But then again, there is a certain charm and added sense of space to an organic plan. Sometimes when planners get ahold of things, it all becomes too precanned. For example, look at the layout of paris and london and compare to an american city. There are few "mystery spots" and you can just see forever which leaves no surprises or anything to the imagination.

This building was first conceived as a 30+ floors and by early 2004 (or was it late 2003) it was redesigned as a 54F and it was named Ocean Height.

By late 2004 the piling and excavation were completed and then work stalled for long while they redesign it yet again to the 82F design it is now. We were referring to the site as "the pool" because of the ground water emerging there.

By late 2005, early 2006 work resumed but slowly and when additional piles were casted in it stalled again while the structural design of the higher floors was changed to turn the regular apartments into huge designers penthouses.

I counted 26 floors. On 13 November pics it was at 23 floors. Therefore approx 3 floors / 12 days = 4 days / floor.

However there are still not many workers visible in the photos :)

Hope you enjoy it. I have been to Dubai a few years ago same time (Christmas) and loved it.
Would recommend visiting Madinat Jumeriah and Jebel Ali Golf Resort hotels. They really have good open buffet dinners (if you like unlimited lobster :))
Ocean Heights, Infinity (just coming off the ground), Princess are worth seeing in Dubai Marina imo.

Very fast progress...

Indeed fast! Though started much later, the gap to 23 Marina for instance is decreasing, and "23" is now only a few more floors ahead. So Ocean Heights could well fit into the World's tallest residential tower race thread (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=599107&page=11) - at least if you take the categories tallest floor and tallest roof (on the other hand, it will be hard to catch the fast and taller Princess Tower...).
