The top looks amazing.

Stephan this a Hotel Apartment tower. It will house a Crowne Plazza Hotel and several floors of Hotel Apartments, serviced by the Hotel.

this building needs more width... it looks far too thin

^residential towers have to be thin. they are not office towers which dont require light to get into the centre of the floor plate.

^^ Not necessarily. It depend what pile-inserting technique is used. You can either excavate first and insert the piles or insert them deep and then excavate.

However I am retracting my earlier statement since I have not seen them myself inserting piles, so maybe it can be that they have yet to start. We have to check the earlier posted pics for clues.

Maybe piling was partially done for the tower and now they're doing for the podium maybe we were all wrong and it wasn't done at all, and what we see there were just wells for dewatering.

Personally too much happening at the top of this tower. Should be a little less cluttered at the top.

^^ The reason for that is becouse this tower will be tightly fit in between 2 other towers (as in 15 meters distance) of 260 and 285 meters tall, so the top will rise above their roofs. Right in front of it, some 20 - 30 meters distant, will be a 380 meters tall tower.

Can you imagine, a 412 meters tall tower, just 150 meters from the sea and having no clear sea view. :laugh:

Indeed, that's astounding... Marina 101 will tower right in the center of the cluster with such neighbours as Mag 218 to the S, the Torch and Marina Pinnacle to the SW, Princess Tower to the W, Elite Residences to the NW, Ocean Heights to the N, Sulafa Tower to the NE and 23 Marina to the E.

Tower 101 should have a large impact to the Marina skyline in 2009/10... until the mighty Pentominium Tower, that soon might rise straight to the East, can even dwarf this 101-story-tower! :nuts:

It's a bit sad that only the mountain-like roof will be seen midst the other buildings, but not the whole elegant tower...

^^ So many construction sites here on such a relative small area! I'd guess Imre has taken the photo from the top floors of Marina Heights.

The Marina 101 lot is at the bottom left, next to the growing Marina Pinnacle, isn't it? This site looks so small for a coming supertall! The square bases of Marina Pinnacle and the tower above (I don't know this one so far, can someone help?*) are connected so closely to the Marina 101 site, that some people could suffer from agoraphobia there when all the skyscrapers are finished... :runaway:

But nevertheless I'm looking forward to see the first floors of Marina 101 in a few months... :yes:

Let this not be the beginning of an "Infinity Tower syndrome"! Marina 101 is placed further from the coastline than Infinity Tower, so this comes as a surprise to me.

What is the process for building the piles. Do they simply drill a x metre deep hole then pour the concrete? Or do those long steel dubes go down all the way as a formwork and get removed once the concrete has been poured? or do they do it as a stepped process a couple of metres at a time?

It seems to me that there is much less rebar and what rebar there is, is much smaller than is typically seen in construction in the United States. Is this due to the difference in building codes or is it due to the anticipated conditions that the foundation is expected to encounter such as earthquakes, high winds etc.?

O interesting piling question. IMO I doubt the same foundation techniques are practiced everywhere. The soil is varies all over the place. I'm interested in an expert opinion on that question tho.

That hole looks like it's for draining the water out of the ground.

^^ Nice perspective to many different construction sites in the heart of Marina (Marina Pinnacle, Ocean Heights, Marina 101, Sulafa Tower, Mag 218). Marina 101 right in the centre is the least noticeable here, cause you don't see much of the plot hole. It would be interesting to see, if actually something is happening down on the ground.

Marina Arcade is introduced here, too, and I wonder if (and how) this mall could go u/c soon, while construction is going on everywhere around with not a meter of distance in-between then. I bet that the logistics for Marina 101 would be much easier, if the Arcade site still can be used during the next years.

in the last pics from imre you can see that they are digging out the piles. maybe they've already finished it, that means they'll soon start with prepairing the piles for the rebar and the big pour, after that it will start to rise....all that will happen long before the end of the year :)

Why do they build these supertall towers here so extremely close together?

I know it looks better when they are clustered, but some more space between then (a road, or little park of the same width) would be better i think.

Btw, i also don't like those high podiums. I know they are needed for parking space because they can't dig deep in this ground. But if those towers are all togeter in 1 plot anyways, why not build 1 or 2 big parking garages behind the towers?

^^ There's no space for carparks behind the towers. I don't know why they're building them all close together like this. The unlimited height plots are all in this area. I think they should have spread them around the marina so that they don't all block each other's views.

Thanks for the quick repost! So they've been really working down there during June... the piling days are over, and the lowest basement floor is half done, showing the outlines of the core in the center, I think.

Now I'm convinced that this project will go up - from level 1 to 101 :)

Don't think they've poured the foundation yet. Should happen within a month or so.

It just started! And it couldn't start any earlier because they had to wait for their neighbor to fill their hole.

I think it is positive that the neighboring tower is also build by the same contractor, so they can coordinate better with the management and supervision of the sites.

it's amazing - the density seen here... there will be absolutely no proper views from these buildings [not considering views into the opposite building's bedroom] + no proper sunlight :nuts:

and the design... ugh! [well, just not my taste]... but it's interesting nevertheless - can this "style", this sort of [25 years too] late post-modernism with lots of details and many colors, and of course the must-have decorative crown, kinda wannabe-fancy-looking, i repeat, can this "style" be considered the contemporary arabic vernacular?

(correct me if i'm wrong - this kind of "style" in uae and other arabic countries [plus in russia, ukraine, kazakhstan etc] is only represented by the local architects.
