Military build up is necessary ? This may off topics, so I will make it short. What we need is money to educate and feed our people, not to kill them or others.

The Chinese are the future of this whole area, tourist wise we just lost a huge market (hopefully temporarily), the far most largest in the whole region. That was a significant part of the 10 million tourists plan.:ohno::ohno::ohno:

Modernizing the Military is a huge MUST considering the philippines uses WORLD WAR TWO era naval ships and an airforce full of air without force.....Look at singapore, for such a tiny country, it has one of the world's very damn modern army.

Un-corrupt allocation of funds can fund both military, education and other services equally.

Yes, but we don't want the philippines to be a future chinese state. So, military build up is a must because of recent chinese hostilities near our shores. But you know, if you dont want us to do a military build up, can you please move to china? We don't need another traitor in this country.

What he said was true. We have enough resources to fund those sectors.

And please, we had enough of the makapilis in this country. We will not be a Chinese vassal state and no amount of economic relief can ever be enough to allow the bullying to continue.

We need to build-up the military and show the world that we are not a country to be trifled with. That we can stand on our own to keep aggressors at bay.

You're all economics, you sound more like T******d and Ma*****a (virtually Chinese ass-lickers sorry to say this) with that kind of talk. The Philippines is not gonna give in to some empty ambition of a superpower wannabe and those ass licking cowards that surround our country. To abandon reason for money.

IAN SOMERHALDER TALKS ABOUT EL NIDO, PALAWAN

"El Nido is probably one of the most beautiful places on the face of the planet.

Running around in a secluded tropical island, drinking out of coconuts, hanging out under palm trees and getting your picture taken, it was all just amazing. Watching the tide come in at Lagen Resort, the change nature does to you, it’s just incredible.

The first chance you get, get on a plane, get on a boat and EXPLORE THE ISLANDS YOU GUYS ARE FROM because, wow, YOU ARE INCREDIBLY LUCKY."

The event, inspired by a tradition in Germany and other European countries where they declare an open house of all museums, has been mounted every year in Cebu CIty as a collaboration by a growing number of museums and heritage groups starting in 2006 led by the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc.

Osmeña said this year “we expect it to be more lively” with 22 participating museums and heritage sites in Mandaue and Cebu Cities which will be open from 6 p.m. to 12 midnight.

this is the first year the museum of the university of san carlos joined gabii sa kabilin (literally a night of heritage or cultural treasures). it would be much better if the museum which has a sizeable collection be accessible to the public by building a separate museum outside the university campus.

I don't know if the University is considering that yet. They made fresh renovations of the outside corridor of the Museum just this year for exhibits.

But I think they are accessible to people naman. Bayand nga lang siguro but then it would be best if the school joined the upcoming Kabilin events.

I joined their tour last year. It was a museum tour but what were involved were mostly students. We even wore Filipiniana attires during that day. It was also by RAFI.

Phl Pavilion in Korea expo attracting 4,000 daily (http://www.philstar.com/Article.aspx?articleId=811204&publicationSubCategoryId=63)
By Sheila Crisostomo (The Philippine Star) Updated May 27, 2012 12:00 AM

MANILA, Philippines - More than 4,000 people visit daily the Philippine Pavilion in the ongoing Yeosu Expo in Korea, organizers said yesterday.

Philippine Organizing Committee (POC) Commissioner General Domingo Ramon Enerio III said the visitors include high-ranking government officials from other countries, international travel agents and foreign media.

Enerio said majority of the visitors were senior citizens, followed by students and families with children.

“The most popular attraction is the Philippine mascot ‘Bok,’ with whom the visitors would take photos for souvenir. The most typical comments are about the sweetness of the Philippine mango, the amazing sand of Boracay, and the visitors’ desire to taste the Filipino food,” Enerio added.

He said the “most popular Philippine brochure,” on the other hand, is on ESL or English as Second Language courses.

“The most popular activity inside the Philippine Pavilion is touching the sand, picture-taking at the digital hub, shopping at the ECHOstore, and watching the butan-ding (whale shark) animation,” he said.

The onsite digital hub is where visitors can acquire various information about the Philippines using their smartphones, while the ECHOstore is where they can shop for environmental products and souvenirs.

Other attractions are the interactive marine map through which visitors can identify fish and coral species, the interior pods and the façade’s coral pores that are all made of recycled materials.

According to Enerio, the interactive features of the Philippine Pavilion have been enhanced by the “WeConnect Wall where photos and video messages about the holiday experiences in the Philippines can be posted.”

The country’s tourist destinations remained a principal attraction. The brochures about Boracay, Bohol, Cebu, Palawan and Davao always had to be replenished because of the huge demands from visitors.

The Philippine Pavilion was themed “Islands of Diversity, Seas of Connectivity” consistent with the Yeou Expo’s “Living Ocean and Coast” theme.

Crafted by marine scientist and UP Prof. Edgardo Gomez, the Philippine theme was interpreted and applied in various design statements by Korean-based brand activation firm PICO North Asia and its team of Filipino architects.

The technical and creative application of the Philippines’ theme statement has reportedly impressed the company of international promotional manager Rosy Mosca of the Consorzio Milano Expo 2015 who is also a contributor to online news channel Webit.

Cebu wrests Cobra Ironman 2012 from CamSur

Cebu will be hosting the country’s top triathlon event, the 2012 Cobra Ironman 70.3 on August 5, 2012, at the Shangri-La Mactan Island Resort and Spa in Lapu-Lapu City.

Sunrise events, Inc. general manager Princess Galura said the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC) told them to look for another venue because WTC wanted the 1.2-mile swim on an open sea instead of a manmade lake like in Camarines Sur, which hosted the early editions of the Cobra 70.3.

Philippines Parliament Approves Removal Of Airline Taxes:cheers:

by Mary Swire, Tax-News.com, Hong Kong

Last updated 30 minutes ago | Tuesday, May 29, 2012

The Philippines House of Representatives has approved, at a third and final reading, a bill which seeks to “rationalize” the taxes on international air carriers, to boost tourism and enable the country to honour tax exemptions under tax treaties and other international agreements.

Airlines have, for some time, lobbied for the removal, or at least a reduction, in the 2.5% Gross Philippine Billings Tax (GPBT) and the 3% Common Carrier’s Tax (CCT) to which they are subjected. The GPBT and CCT are levied on all revenues, passengers, cargoes and excess baggage leaving the Philippines.

The taxes have caused a total withdrawal of foreign airlines, one by one, from providing direct flights to Manila. Air France-KLM dropped the only remaining direct flight from Manila to Amsterdam in March this year, due to the high taxes it paid for loading passengers in the Philippines.

Dragonair starts Clark-Hong Kong service (http://business.inquirer.net/62143/dragonair-starts-clark-hong-kong-service)
By: Tonette Orejas (http://business.inquirer.net/byline/tonette-orejas)
Inquirer Central Luzon (http://business.inquirer.net/source/inquirer-central-luzon)

CLARK, Philippines—Dragonair, a wholly owned subsidiary of Cathay Pacific Airways, began its daily flights from the Clark International Airport (CIA) in Pampanga to Hong Kong on Tuesday, with 183 passengers aboard its Airbus 320 that took off at 11:20 a.m.

The maiden flight signaled more flight connections for the Clark airport, according to Victor Jose Luciano, president and chief executive officer of the state-owned Clark International Airport Corp. (CIAC)

“Dragonair is a renowned China expert. The airline has routes to mainland China and to some 130 destinations all over the world,” Luciano said.
Luciano said that aside from budget airlines, legacy carriers are beginning to take a “serious look” at the Clark airport.

Asiana Airlines of South Korea was the first to fly via CIA. Airphil Express of Philippine Airlines flies three times weekly to Singapore and four times weekly to Hong Kong.

South East Asian Airlines (Seair) launched its flights to Kalibo in Aklan as well as to Singapore, Bangkok, Hong Kong and Kota Kinabalu.

The CIAC expects to serve 1.5 million passengers at the end of 2012 because of more flights logged in by Air Asia Philippines, Airphil Express, Seair-Tiger and Dragonair.

A total of 292 local and international flights go through CIA weekly.
Cebu Pacific Air uses CIA for its international flights to Hong Kong, Singapore, Bangkok and Macau. It also serves the Cebu route via Clark. Asiana Airlines and Jin Air fly to Incheon, South Korea, also via Clark.

A good boost to our medical tourism industry:

Makati Medical Center now offering stem cell therapy (http://lifestyle.inquirer.net/49915/makati-medical-center-now-offering-stem-cell-therapy)
By: Joy Rojas (http://lifestyle.inquirer.net/byline/joy-rojas), Philippine Daily Inquirer (http://lifestyle.inquirer.net/source/philippine-daily-inquirer)

Stem cell therapy is now being offered at Makati Medical Center (MMC) as potential cure for a wide range of illnesses, from various types of cancer and heart ailments to incurable diseases such as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s.

Stem cell therapy is believed to be effective in bone marrow transplant for leukemia patients, and with early intervention, yields desirable results among renal and prostate cancer patients.

Launched in the first year anniversary of the hospital’s cancer center, MMC’s Cellular Therapeutics Laboratory is equipped with technology touted to be “totally unmatched in our country,” says Dr. Francis Chung, scientific officer of the lab. “No system exists elsewhere.”

Employing the strictest sterility standards at par with that of the US Food and Drug Administration, the lab has state-of-the-art facilities. The Clinimacs CD34 Reagent System is a machine that isolates specific cells needed for the procedure, while the Flow Cytomer ensures the purity of cultured cells.

Transplantation
Sourcing the stem cells, however, is what truly sets the Philippines’ premier health institution apart from chi-chi spas that also push stem cell therapy for beauty and anti-aging procedures.

At MMC, healthy stem cells are acquired from the patients themselves, a process known as autologous transplantation. For those suffering from an ailment, a parent, sibling or other close relative could be the donor. The hospital strives for utmost compatibility between patient and donor through a 10-point DNA matching system.

PHL needs 2 ‘full’ international airports
Business Mirror
http://businessmirror.com.ph/home/top-news/27847-phl-needs-2-full-international-airports

While the government dithers on how soon to transfer international airport operations to Clark in Pampanga, a former director of the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) and development adviser for North Luzon has proposed creating two international airports.

Instead of calling Clark (or Diosdado Macapagal International Airport) an alternate airport, Renato Diaz, president and CEO of Investment and Capital Corp., said it should be geared for full international and domestic operations and called the North International Airport.

“Nobody wants to be called an alternate international airport,” he added.

Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) remains the second international airport, although it should also continue to function as a domestic airport catering to the needs of Southern Luzon and Mindanao, Diaz said.

He made his proposals during the Kapihan sa Diamond Hotel media forum, where he broached other suggestions that could be taken up immediately, instead of waiting for the construction of the high-speed rail connecting Clark and Naia 3, which could take at least 10 years.

Naia is now hobbled by congestion, with the airport registering 29.7 million passengers in 2011. It is estimated to hit 30 million this year, according to Manila International Airport Authority General Manager Jose Angel Honrado.

To lure international carriers to Clark, Diaz said all international airlines should be made aware that the DMIA does not charge the 3-percent common carriers tax and the 2.5-percent gross-income tax. Both taxes are levied at the Naia, which caused KLM and other European airlines to severe their direct connections to Europe.

“Clark is a free-port zone, and KLM and other carriers that have left the country could be persuaded to resume its Manila-Europe connection it they are given incentives not to pay the total 5.2-percent taxes,” he added.

Diaz said even gasoline and kerosene, main fuels of jet planes, are priced lower in Clark, compared to the rest of the country.

He added that since vehicular traffic is the main stumbling block of travelers going to Naia, all passengers from Quezon City, Navotas City and nearby areas should be directed to proceed to Clark, going through the North Luzon Expressway (Nlex).

Diaz proposed providing police escorts for passengers on shuttle buses and other vehicles plying the Naia-Mindanao Avenue route, where traffic gridlock is common. From there, passengers can avail themselves of the Nlex direct to Clark.

He said this is only temporary, until the proposed link, a 17-kilometer long skyway between the Nlex and the South Luzon Expressway, is finished.

Those located in Metro Manila and the southern region could continue flying out of Naia.

Passengers from Mindanao and the Visayas bound for abroad could take domestic planes, such as those flying out of General Santos, Davao and Zamboanga, to go direct to Clark.

Legazpi and the Bicol region could be served by the Southern Luzon International Airport (SLIA) in Daraga, Albay, which was given P2 billion in additional funding so that it could be completed in 2014. Passengers in this region could go abroad, flying to Clark.

The transfer of aircraft operations from Naia to DMIA is inevitable and the only question now remaining is how soon the government would be able to implement it.

Already, the Manila International Airport Authority (Miaa) has denied the entry of more airlines into the Naia, and at the same time frozen the addition of flights since last year to remedy the congestion.

Honrado, during the same media forum, said applications by airlines from India and Pakistan to fly out of Naia had been rejected. They were told instead to operate at any of the country’s outlying airports.

The surge in the number of flights was attributed to the open-skies policy, the unprecedented growth of low cost carriers, and the aggressive stance of the tourism department with its “It’s More Fun in the Philippines” campaign.

“It’s a confluence of domestic and international flights that have contributed to the congestion at Naia,” Honrado said. He added that although the Naia has two runways, only one is considered for international use, and the other for domestic flights or for smaller aircraft. Its design prevents simultaneous operations.

Honrado said the government has conducted studies to determine if the present location of Naia could be expanded to include a parallel runway.

The result is that the government would have to expand the current 420 hectares all the way to Muntinlupa, gobbling up the subdivisions of Merville and Moonwalk and the nearby housing subdivisions.

“This would affect 10,000 families and expropriating their properties would be too expensive for the government,” Honrado said.

He added that using Sangley Point as the alternate international airport was rejected because of the need to reclaim a large swatch of Manila Bay, that would include expropriating land as far as Baclaran.

“Wala na talagang solusyon kaya sa Clark, dun na talaga ang punta natin,” Honrado said, adding that this is the best choice since 2,000 hectares are available there for aviation use, in contrast to the 410 hectares of the Naia. He added that the Clark Development Corp. has a total disposable area of 43,000 hectares.

The present world standards are two parallel runways that could be used simultaneously, one for continuous landing and the other for continuous takeoff.

If this is adopted by the Naia, Honrado said the government would have to create another 3-kilometer long runway, separated by 2 kilometers of space at the center for the passenger terminal, hence the need to expropriate all the subdivisions south of the Naia.

“We looked at the other solutions and a transfer to Clark is the fastest and the least expensive.”

He said another point of discussion, once a transfer to DMIA has been finalized, is to determine how the two airport systems would function. Would Naia be left behind as a purely domestic airport, while DMIA is used exclusively for international operations, or vice versa?

Honrado cited the experience of Japan, when it left behind Haneda in the heart of Tokyo, and opened Narita, one hour away by car. He said it took 20 years before Narita was connected by high-speed train to Metropolitan Tokyo. Meanwhile, Japan retained Haneda for domestic use and is now also utilized for international flights by Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways.

In the case of Korea, the Miaa chief said Incheon International Airport was constructed to ease congestion at the Gimpo International Airport (GIA), the former main international airport for Seoul and South Korea. Incheon is now the largest airport in South Korea, the primary airport serving the Seoul national capital area, and one of the largest and busiest airports in the world.

GIA now serves mostly domestic destinations, plus shuttle flights to Beijing, Osaka-Kansai, Shanghai-Honggiao, Tokyo-Haneda and limited service to Nagoya and Tsushima.

Honrado used both Haneda and Gimpo as examples to what awaits the Naia when DMIA becomes a major hub for Luzon.

Passengers from Mindanao and the Visayas bound for abroad could take domestic planes, such as those flying out of General Santos, Davao and Zamboanga, to go direct to Clark.

why do they have to do that when the more established mactan cebu international airport is more capable than clark to handle international flights and there is ease of connectivity between the visayan and mindanao airports with cebu than clark. if they want to established two international gateway, it must be one for the north (luzon) and one for the south (visayas and mindanao) and not two international gateway all in luzon.

The article has made a mistake of labeling of the need of 2 international airports in the entire country instead of Greater Manila.

Though I strongly agree that there should be 3 major international airports, one for Greater Manila, Greater Cebu and Greater Davao.

Well, I was confused because to actually refer to the Legislative as 'Parliament' is misleading. We may be using parliamentary procedures in almost any deliberate meetings like that of the Congress but I think it should not be called Parliament. It is the Congress of the Philippines. I was just pointing out that the term is misleading. :)

Update:

Contestants fly by Phiippine Airlines. Arrived in Manila in the evening and went straight to Plaza Miranda in Quiapo. While on the taxi, one comment from the contestants is " I never thought that Manila is such a big city, and it's packed!"

With Quiapo Church in the background and surrounded by local folks, each team was tasked to eat 8 baluts.

After finishing the balut, they went to Cubao to take the bus to Daraga, Albay then onto Cagsawa, with Mayon Volcano in the background, to receive the 'detour' instruction. The detour is called Pig or Jig.

For Pig, contestants have to catch 2 piglets each in a muddy pigpen. For Jig, contestants will have to dance perfectly the Ibalong festival dance steps.

After finishing the detour, contestants take a jeepney to Misibis Bay to get their next clue.

At Misibis Bay, contestants have to build a raft with the provided materials (bamboo poles, hard plastic containers and rope) and paddle to Mosboron Beach for the pit stop.

It was a very good promotion for Albay tourism.

Lol why restrict the number ?, obviously DMIA is here to stay but myself living in Las Pinas when in the country personally refuse to have to go there just to fly in or out of the country .

I also agree that NAIA should be scrapped but NCR still requires it's own airport this is why i believe that Sangley should be developed into a brand new modern intl and domestic airport, it should be quite possible to fit a terminal 3 type and sized airport there .

Anyway as for the rest of the country there is no reason why aircraft can't fly directly to smaller airports with the exception of perhaps their lack of security facilities for intl flight's .

Asean is planning an open skies agreement if im not mistaken in a few years time if this were realised there would be no technical issues for a B737 or Airbus A320 to fly directly from Japan or Singapore to Puerto Princessa or Bohol for example which would greatly improve travel for tourists .

Again, Sangley is already out of the question and the plan is already with DMIA. Why spend huge amount of money in reclaiming more land when you already have the space up north in Clark?

I'm also from South Metro Manila and I don't mind traveling all the way to Clark for my international travels.

If DMIA is going to be developed, it should have the full development including high speed rail and road connectivity.

Report finds very little 'fun' in the Philippines (http://www.philstar.com/Article.aspx?articleId=812300&publicationSubCategoryId=200)
May 30, 2012

MANILA, Philippines - Government officials may promote the Philippines as a "fun" tourist destination, but the country remains a laggard in the travel and tourism industry compared to its peers in Southeast Asia, a report by the World Economic Forum said.

According to the Travel and tourism Competitiveness Report 2012 of the Switzerland-based WEF, the Philippines ranked 94th :shocked: out of the 139 countries included in the poll.

Among countries in Southeast Asia, Singapore is leading in tourism competitiveness, ranking 10th; followed by Malaysia, 35th; Thailand, 41st; Brunei Darussalam, 67th; and Indonesia, 74th. Cambodia did worse than the Philippines, ranking 109th.

"Travel and tourism is not only a critical driver of economic development and social progress. It also represents a formidable factor of regional integration," said Børge Brende, Managing Director, World Economic Forum. “By improving connectivity and mobility, travel and tourism contributes to creating a regional identity, a sense of ‘ASEANness’ among citizens.”

The rankings are based on data covering 14 areas: policy rules and regulations; environmental sustainability; saftey and security; health and hygiene, prioritization of T&T (travel and tourism); air transport infrastructure; ground transport infrastructure; tourism infrastructure; ICT infrastructure; price competitiveness in the T&T industry; human resources, affinity for T&T; natural resources; and cultural resources.

Of the 14 pillars of the index, among the members of the Association of the Southeast Asian Nations , the Philippines got the worst score in ground transport infrastructure - 114t and safety and security, 109th.

"Mirroring the profound political, cultural, and economic diversity that characterizes ASEAN, its member countries spread across the TTCI rankings. We can classify them into four groups. Singapore is in a league of its own, leading ASEAN in all but two areas of the Index. Second, Malaysia and Thailand do well, despite a few weaknesses. The third group consists of Vietnam, Indonesia, and Brunei Darussalam, which all display very wide performance swings. Finally, both the Philippines and Cambodia present serious shortcomings in most dimensions," the report said.

Overall, Switzerland is the most competitive in travel and tourism, followed by Germany and France, respectively.

Also included in the Top 10 are Austria, Sweden, United States of America, United Kingdom, Spain, Canada and Singapore.

I'm also from South Metro Manila and I don't mind traveling all the way to Clark for my international travels.

If DMIA is going to be developed, it should have the full development including high speed rail and road connectivity.

It will take 2 decades before DMIA can realise those fancy plans and even come close to being a large modern international airport and so would all the infrastructure required to make it work like affordable high speed rail lines to the capital and other regions etc .

Again, Sangley is already out of the question and the plan is already with DMIA. Why spend huge amount of money in reclaiming more land when you already have the space up north in Clark?

Nothing that has potential and necessity is ever out of the question .

First of all there is no need to reclaim alot of new land with the exception of minor smoothing out of rough edges as the existing land area is sufficient to hold as ive said a T3 sized terminal airport building plus the singular runway is sufficient for the purpose requiring only renovations and a limited lengthening, extra land reclamation could be envisaged at a later date if and when demand increases .

2nd demand is a funny thing and an intl airport at Sangley especially once asean finalises an open skies agreement would im sure be the preferential airport of most people seeking to travel to Manila let alone business and private vip travellers, furthermore NCR requires an airport at it's doorstep to be able to recieve visiting dignitaries or for use by the president and the government aswell as the military such an airport is also vital for the NCR's wider economic development .

Regarding costs the sale of NAIA land and assets should pretty much help cover the costs of building a Nagoya Japan sized intl airport at Sangley, and as ive said there wouldn't be any need for major land reclamation the amount that would be required to do so would be insignificant with regards the overall costs .

Liberating NAIA land aside from allowing for the creation of green spaces and new living and business districts could allow for the construction of new essential infrastructures such as new boulevards, a brand new multi modal central station for national bus and railway lines and a new hub for the various LRT's Mrt's, a railway connecting the Sangley airport to Makati, Fort Bonifacio CBD and even Alabang CBD can be built at the fraction of the overall DMIA pricetag .

In any case i never said there shouldn't be a DMIA just that aswell as DMIA the NCR must have it's own intl airport at it's doorstep and especially one located at Sangley though small is bound to be quite a successful and profitable one .

Chūbu Centrair International Airport (中部国際空港 Chūbu Kokusai Kūkō?) (IATA: NGO, ICAO: RJGG) is an airport on an artificial island in Ise Bay, Tokoname City in Aichi Prefecture, 35 km (22 mi) south[1] of Nagoya in central Japan.

Centrair is classified as a first class airport and is the main international gateway for the Chūbu ("central") region of Japan. The name "Centrair" (セントレア Sentorea?) is an abbreviation of Central Japan International Airport, an alternate translation used in the English name of the airport's operating company, Central Japan International Airport Co., Ltd. (中部国際空港株式会社 Chūbu Kokusai Kūkō Kabushiki-gaisha?).

Some 11,721,673 people used the airport in the 2006, ranking 8th busiest in the nation. 273,874 tons of cargo was moved in 2005.

The capital of The Philippines is chaotic, congested and confusing. At first glance it can seem like one sprawling urban mass, gridlocked and polluted, but look a little deeper and there is a fascinating and diverse culture, historic colonial landmarks and a vibrant nightlife to explore.

Manila is made up of 16 territorial districts that, with one exception, were all original towns. It therefore lacks a definable centre which can make it disorientating for visitors expecting a traditional city layout. It is best explored one area at a time to fully soak up the atmosphere that each has to offer and to think of it as a collection of towns rather than one homogenous city. Whilst buildings and monuments of its colonial past remain, visitors should be aware that Manila was the second most devastated city in the world (after Warsaw) during the Second World War and was subject to a massive re-building programme.

The walled city district of Intramuros offers the best taste of Manila’s past history, whilst Binondo, the world’s oldest Chinatown, has vibrant street markets, quaint Chinese shop-houses and is home to the best authentic Chinese cuisine in the city. The modern day centre of commercial life is the Makati area, which is packed with shopping malls, upmarket restaurants and fashionable nightclubs.

For a respite from the frenetic pace of Manila’s crowded streets do as the locals do and head to the historic Rizal Park in Intramuros to unwind and watch the world go by. The 58 hectare park is a favourite spot for weekend picnics and dawn t’ai chi and houses the Chinese and Japanese Gardens, the National Museum, The National Library, The National Planetarium and Manila Ocean Park.

Misibis Bay is a private luxury resort built upon a stunning stretch of beach on Cagraray Island, Bacacay in the province of Albay in The Philippines. It offers all of the amenities you would expect from a five star resort and is also a great base to explore the nearby active volcano, idyllic water-falls and colonial churches and buildings on the mainland.

The resort itself is spread over 5 hectares and guests are encouraged to explore it, and the rest of Cagraray Island, by all-terrain vehicles, mountain bikes, dune buggies or Segway. Taking advantage of its position on a pristine beach, Misibis Bay has a wide range of water activities for its guests to enjoy including diving, jet-skiing, Hobie Cat sailing, stand up paddle boarding and wind-surfing. There are also three pools to choose from away from the beach. A popular activity for guests is to hire a private boat in the late afternoon to enjoy an impressive view of Mount Mayon volcano on the mainland and watch the sunset on the turquoise waters of the bay.

The Cagraray Eco-Energy Park is situated next to the resort. This is a 100 hectare eco-tourism park which aims to be the very first Green Eco-Energy Park in the world. It is home to a 200m and 400m zip line and towering climbing wall for those looking for an adrenalin burst. For the less adventurous it also has a picturesque amphitheatre perched on the edge of a cliff offering stunning views of the shimmering bay and the surrounding green mountains. The Eco-Energy Park plans to showcase alternative and renewable energy sources alongside the leisure facilities on offer to promote environmental awareness to its many visitors.

In any case i never said there shouldn't be a DMIA just that aswell as DMIA the NCR must have it's own intl airport at it's doorstep and especially one located at Sangley though small is bound to be quite a successful and profitable one .

And how long will it take for Sangley to utilize if developed as the premier gateway.

It is not for us to decide which airport should be the premier gateway it is the developers and investors.

And for now, most of them are towards developing DMIA than Sangley.

The Amazing Race Australia Season 2 is visiting Manila, The Philippines...Manila is their first stop..
http://l.yimg.com/ea/img/-/120530/manila_philippines_17sbdlr-17sbdmj.jpg?x=292&sig=37uJS8qTAYQBhNbf2ouVQw--
The capital of The Philippines is chaotic, congested and confusing.

Nice. I hope you can share in the future the videos.

Thanks. I live here and I also don't trust the taxi drivers anywhere in the world including Metro Manila.

Try the reliable RE. There are also taxi companies with toll free nos. I've reported 3 taxi drivers to DOTC 7890 in the last 5 years and filed charges. I attended the hearings. The taxi drivers literally CRIED in front of me and the lawyer during the hearing asking for forgiveness. Their offense was refusal of passengers.

Well, human compassion prevailed, I forgave them but with strong admonition.

It is not for us to decide which airport should be the premier gateway it is the developers and investors.

And for now, most of them are towards developing DMIA than Sangley.

Well it is a political question really since there does not seem to be any plans to scrap NAIA at this point it naturally is pointless to think of Sangley, but once an actual political policy is made to close NAIA im sure the issue of Sangley would come to the forefront, also Pnoy's mom originally wanted to develop it so it theoretically only needs him to remember and to back such plans to spark investors interest also local officials are pro developing the Cavite peninsula into a logistics hub it isn't like there are no existing idea's and plans ... .

In any case i agree the market should decide but unfortunetely part of the rationale for DMIA seem to be based on shutting down any form of competition, if it's chances are that weak in a competitive environment then perhaps questions should be asked because there is no doubt that an airport at the NCR's doorstep will always be successful .

I hope the Tourism Secretary takes note of this.

Well yeah not enough highways or major national roads at least for speedy travel across even just Luzon, and the highways we do have are sometimes a bit unsafe well ok quite unsafe lol compared to other countries on the one hand theres a lack of discipline by drivers and lack of rules and protocol, also some of the highways on and off ramps are a bit unsafe sometimes lol on and off ramps for gas stations don't even exist and sometimes there are trees by the side of the highways without there being protective barriers etc .

After CNN, 'It's more fun' ads soon featured on National Geographic
By Mayen Jaymalin (The Philippine Star) Updated June 01, 2012 12:00 AM Comments (0) View comments

MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Tourism (DOT) has gone all out in its international campaign to promote Philippine tourism.

After a show on CNN cable television, various Philippine destinations will be soon featured in the international television channel National Geographic.

With support from the DOT, a six-part documentary series that seeks to reveal cultural and historical insights on some of the country’s world-class destinations will be viewed over National Geographic.

Among the destinations to be featured are the Batad Rice Terraces in Mountain Province, Coron in Palawan, Taal and Anilao in Batangas, Siquijor, and Mt. Pulag in Benguet.

Produced by The Extra Mile Productions, “Islands Insider” presents the Philippines in a different perspective and deviates from traditional travel shows by featuring stories as narrated by the locals, highlighting issues beyond the breathtaking sights, and delivering a strong preservation and conservation message.

Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez expressed delight at being a partner of the project, which was conceptualized even before he assumed his post.

“Being a part of National Geographic means that the beautiful sights of your country are part of the world, not just part of the Philippines, and the day will come that we will have to share it with the rest of the world,” Jimenez said.

He urged Filipinos to visit and see for themselves the beauty of the different destinations in the country and help in their preservation.

“We want you to see it first, we want you to protect it, before they all come rushing in,” Jimenez said.

DOT said “Islands Insider” is a title befitting the documentary’s theme and in-depth look at the communities, as the featured locals – the Ifugaos, Ibalois, and shamans in Siquijor – were allowed to speak for themselves and their culture.

“Insider” connotes a point of truth that an outsider would not know, according to the producers.

The first episode of the six-part series, which will feature the Batad Rice Terraces, is targeted to premiere on the third week of June.

“Islands Insider” is directed by Gabby Malvar and hosted by Ginggay Hontiveros, both executive producers of The Extra Mile Productions.

With the National Geographic series, DOT expressed confidence that more foreign and local tourists would come and explore the country.

One thing i notice from the trailer is that Manila is really chaotic and dirty. Its really high time to take sanitation and discipline seriously. And oh those overhead wires really have to go... Hard to concentrate on the scenes, seems like too much distraction going on, from the chaotic surroundings to the wires, to the dirty walls on the center islands. I wonder how a potential tourists will react to this.

diba they also shot in El Nido? Hope we'll have more scenes sa Palawan as it is what will truly appeal to the tourists..

As for the shots in Manila, this is expected. Even the other movies shot in Bangkok or Jakarta, yung "dirty" part ang nahi-highlight kc yung "dirtiness" or exoticness ng city ang main reason why they shot the movie in these cities in the first place.

MANILA, Philippines — Expect a surge of “Koreanovela” K-Pop (Korean Pop) themed events in Manila as the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) officially launched yesterday its first KTO satellite Manila office to further intensify South Korea’s tourism marketing promotions in the Philippines.

“The Philippines is South Korea’s Top Six market for inbound tourism, bringing in more than 300,000 tourists and accounting for 3.4 percent of the 9.8 million foreign visitors who came to Korea last year. The installation of our first satellite office in Manila assures us that these figures will grow even more,” said KTO President Charm Lee in a press conference before the KTO launching ceremony.

'More Fun in PH' slogan adorns London taxicabs and buses

http://www.topgear.com.ph/images/articleImages/news/0_2012/05/04/philippine_tourism/more-fun-main1.jpg

Remember the Department of Tourism's "It's More Fun in the Philippines" slogan? Well, that viral tag line can now be found plastered on exactly 50 black taxicabs and 25 double-decker buses in London, the Department of Foreign Affairs reports.

According to the DFA, Philippine Ambassador to the United Kingdom Enrique Manalo and Philippine Department of Tourism-London chief Rosario Afuang have officially launched the campaign to promote Philippine tourism in the UK, which ranks first in Europe and 10th in the world in terms of tourist arrivals in the country. The DFA says more than 100,000 British tourists visited the Philippines last year, a record high.

The motorcade drove through Oxford Street, apparently the busiest commercial district not just in the UK but in all of Europe. It was complemented by performances of Filipino songs and dances.

"This is just a sample of what you will experience when you visit our country," Ambassador Enrique Manalo told the guests. "A culture of fun, beauty and excitement awaits every visitor. With 7,107 islands, guests are sure to find something that will suit their adventure, and with more than 90 million hosts, you are definitely going to have more fun in the Philippines."

Meanwhile, DOT-London head Rosario Afuang revealed that aside from the popular "More Fun in the Philippines" slogan adorning London taxicabs and buses, it will also appear on "75 panels at some of London's busiest underground stations, including Piccadilly Circus, Covent Garden, Leicester Square, Tottenham Court Road and Oxford Circus."

The DFA says that the advertisements in the UK are "part of synchronized efforts with the Department of Tourism in Manila as it launches a worldwide campaign on CNN International which began on April 30."

Apo Reef
the ‘Jewel of Mindoro’

Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro

“the center of Earth’s marine diversity.”

Apo Reef is a series of coral reefs encompassing 34 square kilometers within the waters of Occidental Mindoro in the Philippines. It is considered as Asia’s largest atoll-like reef, the second largest in the world next only to Australia’s Great Barrier Reef. It is a 34 square kilometer reef that serves as habitat of more than 350 marine species such as sharks, sea hawks, manta rays, stingrays and other tropical fishes and invertebrates. The reef and its surrounding waters are administered as a National Park as part of the Apo Reef Natural Park project.

Dubbed as the “jewel of Mindoro”, Divers explore a coral-encrusted sea wall and with the abundance of its marine life, it has been hailed as “the center of Earth’s marine diversity.”

I have been in chicago and to my surprise, they showcase the Philippines in their permanent Wild Reef exhibit ...

from wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shedd_Aquarium#The_Wild_Reef):
The Shedd's newest permanent exhibit, Wild Reef, opened in 2003. Located two levels below the main building, the 750,000-US-gallon (2,800,000 l) Wild Reef exhibit recreates a Philippine coral reef and is based on the Apo Island (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apo_Island) Marine reserve (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marine_reserve), complete with living coral (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coral), multiple species of fish (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fish) and rays, and a collection of sharks (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shark). The main draw of this attraction is a 400,000-US-gallon (1,500,000 l) shark exhibit with 12-foot (3.7 m) high curved windows, allowing visitors a diver's-eye view. The Wild Reef exhibit also features a saltwater tank display area where coral is propagated and grown for conservation purposes.

Mövenpick hotel in Cebu closed for upgrades
http://www.bworldonline.com/content.php?section=Corporate&title=M%C3%B6venpick-hotel-in-Cebu-closed-for-upgrades&id=52877

http://www.free-press-release.com/uploads/news/2011/04/13/1302697687_img0.jpg

CEBU CITY -- Mövenpick Resort and Spa Cebu is suspending operations for five months to undertake extensive renovation and expansion work, hotel officials said.

Joanna Cuenco, assistant director for communications, said Oikonomos International Resources Corp., the holding company that owns the property, is investing P200 million in the improvements.

The renovation will run from July 15 to Dec. 15 and involve extensive work on hotel rooms, the swimming pool, external areas, and all restaurants and lounges, Mövenpick Cebu General Manager Knuth Keifer said in a press statement.

He added that it will include the addition of amenities never before seen in the Philippines such as an “innovative new entertainment and event facility.”

Since the extent of the refurbishment will be on such a big scale, the hotel decided to suspend operations so as not to inconvenience guests, explained Mr. Kiefer.

“When the renovation work is complete, we believe that the hotel will be an incredible asset not just to Mövenpick Resorts and Hotels but to Cebu as well,” he added.

Mövenpick Resorts and Hotels, a Swiss hospitality company, currently has 70 international hotels across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia and plans to acquire or develop other properties to increase this number to 100 by 2013, said Ms. Cuenco.

It will be opening a hotel in Makati City and a resort in Palawan within the year, she added. According to her, Mövenpick Resorts and Hotels currently has a marketing promotion that gives international travelers a 25% discount on their accommodations in any of its hotel chains. -- Marlen D. Limpag

“Potted Potter: The Unauthorized Harry Experience—A Parody by Dan and Jeff,” to be staged at the RCBC Plaza from Aug. 28 to Sept. 2.

Written by Daniel Clarkson and Jefferson Turner, “Potted Potter” attempts to summarize the seven Harry Potter books in 70 minutes, says Cundall. “It’s very funny and appeals to Potter fans of all ages, from kids to adults.”

Cundall notes that it’s the first time for “Potted Potter” to be performed outside of London, New York and Toronto: “It’ll mark its Asian debut in Manila.” Indeed, he sees Manila becoming a theater hub, catching up with glamorous neighbors Singapore, Macau and Hong Kong.

I decided to book with Cebu Pacific even before this Raymart-Tulfo brawl (my trip to Davao is July 14 this year) and tried the online booking thing. The total cost of the online booking is about Php 1,500 more than when I booked to a nearby traveling agency. :(

I also book online but I tend to avoid low cost carriers when traveling abroad even in nearby places such as HK.

Plus there are those promo sites similar to Cash Cash Pinoy that offer cheap travel rates to various places around The Philippines and nearby Asian countries.

The downside is, alot of those who booked were scammed.

I kindof prefer Cebu Pacific when travelling domestic and next time im there some Cambodgian friends have invited me to go visit their country so i might take them aswell since they have opened a route to Siem Riep or Angkor from Manila it beats going to Saigon or Bangkok and a lengthy bus ride ... .

International travel or long distance i tend to only take Singapore airlines or Lufthansa, whitin Europe im not as picky as i can trust the safety of any EU airline so it's down to cost and availability but then again i tend to drive across the continent nowadays .

Sometimes a travel agent with a reservation system can see more in terms of prices and availability than what you can online, in any case it's always good to shop around and compare .

sorry for the bad joke.

Oo nga no. And to think that $30 Billion was earned way back in 1998 just after the Asian Financial Crisis in 1997 when the Baht was devalued and the US Dollar had more purchasing power. The figure is even bigger than our remittances which is only around $20 Billion. Hmmm, talk about trickle down and inclusive growth economics. :). So majority of the 30B is only from one country? Bat tayo sinama dyan?

The report was about the prostitution trade in 4 countries in SE Asia which includes ours. If you do the math it means the combined earnings of Indonesia, The Philippines and Malaysia from this illegal trade adds up to about $6 Billion.

Majority in this context means "the greatest share or portion" of the earnings went to Thailand which at $24 Billion is 4/5 of the $30 Billion aggregate for all 4 countries which is disproportionately high especially considering that it's population is much smaller than ours and Indonesia's, even back in those days.

It’s more fun in the Philippines’ catching on—survey
By Amy R. Remo
Philippine Daily Inquirer
1:30 am | Thursday, June 7th, 2012

The country’s new tourism slogan, “It’s more fun in the Philippines,” is gaining more positive reactions among Filipinos since its launch in January this year.

Based on the results of a tracking survey conducted by independent research firm Ipsos ASI Philippines, the overall likeability of the Philippines’ tourism slogan even improved in March at 92 percent from only 87 percent in February.

These responses came from the 1,000 interviews conducted by the company in February and another 1,000 interviews in March, among Metro Manila respondents whose ages ranged from 15 to 64 years old. The campaign assessment is part of Ipsos AsiaBUS, an omnibus survey for Asia.

Of the respondents polled, 87 percent said in March that the tourism slogan remained “believable” as against the 84 percent of those who said so in February.

Uniqueness of the slogan was stronger in March with 82 percent of those who were polled believing so, as against the 66 percent in February. This improvement may be attributed to the fact that the issue regarding the similarity to Switzerland’s old tourism campaign may have already toned down.

Positive reactions

This meant, according to Ipsos Philippines, that the campaign is “communicating its intended messaging, such as making Filipinos proud, making people want to travel, making people want to tell others about the beauty of the Philippines and making people believe that it is more fun in the Philippines.”

This likewise confirmed the generally positive emotions that the tourism slogan evoked such as happiness and being proud as Filipinos, the company added.

It's more fun in Bali? Boracay, Palawan still way behind (http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/business/06/07/12/its-more-fun-bali-boracay-palawan-still-way-behind)

Philippines still gets few tourists, data show

MANILA, Philippines - Boracay and Palawan may be two of the Philippines' top beach destinations, but they only gets a small fraction of the foreign tourists who flock to Bali, Indonesia.

Based on data collated by the National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB), Boracay and Palawan received only 10.9% and 5% of the total foreign visitors who went to Bali in 2010.

In 2010, 278,531 tourists visited Boracay, 44.4% higher than the previous year, while 126,763 visitors went to Palawan, 138% up from year-ago figures.

However, even if you combine Boracay and Palawan's visitor arrivals, these would still pale in comparison to Bali's 2.54 million visitor arrivals in 2010. Tourist arrivals to Bali even grew by 7% in 2010 from the previous year's 2.38 million.

"Good news is that growth of foreign visitor arrivals in Boracay and Palawan in 2010 was higher than in Bali, Indonesia. Bad news is that, Boracay and Palawan received only 10.9 percent and 5.0 percent, respectively, of the foreign visitors received by Bali," the NSCB said.

One of best beaches; Wonders of Nature

With its powdery white sand, Boracay island is considered one of the best beaches in the world. In 2011, Boracay was ranked 4th in Travel and Leisure magazine's World's Best Top 10 islands.

Palawan is also known was one of the best islands in the world. Among its attractions are the Tubbataha Reef Marine Park, El Nido Marine Reserve Park and Puerto Princesa Underground which was voted one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature.

Not yet so fun in PH?

Overall, the Philippines gets only a small number of the international tourists to the Asia-Pacific region.

The NSCB pointed out that in 2010, around 3.5 million tourists or 1.8 percent of the total number of international tourists in Asia and the Pacific visited the Philippines. This makes the Philippines the 14th most visited country out of 25 countries in the region.

"For every 10 tourists who visited the Philippines from 2008 to 2010, 15 tourists went to Vietnam, 20 tourists went to Indonesia, 26 tourists went to Singapore, 44 tourists went to Thailand, and 140 tourists went to Malaysia," it said. :ohno::ohno::ohno::ohno:

I recently had some friends doing a sabatical or gap year from work and they travelled across Australia, NZ and Southeast Asia and China i invited them to go to the Phillippines but said that it wasn't on their route, thing is alot of intl tourists going to Vietnam are those who also go to Thailand and other countries on the Mainland, this is why i believe creating a modern intl roro ferry service from say Da Nang to Manila or Subic would increase tourism numbers because it would or could provide a fun "extra" to backpackers itinerary or for local asean citizens on the mainland a car trip to the Phillippines or to enjoy entertainment hubs could be a new vacation experience .

Taking a small overnight cruise could prove very popular for both foreign backpackers and local asean tourists and form the starting point for their island hopping and other tours inside the Phillippines ... .

Not to mention benefits to industry and commerce by having direct roro ferry links to various points of the Asian mainland and beyond Vietnam, China, Taiwan perhaps even S.Korea and Japan .

Do you think we suffer from this perception of "interconnectivity problems" (for lack of a better term) ? Tho I had been able to convince a few Singporean friends to be regular visitors to the Phils, there are still more who have this perception that the Philippines is kinda like an unreachable place out there somewhere in the Pacific. Para bang too far, too remote ang perception nila when comparing with other potential States to visit.

Unlike the other ASEAN states which (by perception) seem closer to each other and thus do not suffer from this "interconnectivity image problem".

Do you think we suffer from this perception of "interconnectivity problems"

Definetely lack of connectivity i think is part of it amongst other problems i mean how many direct flight's do we have left to Europe compared to say Bangkok ?, for exmple another friend recently went to "Vietnam" and the reason she's going there from Belgium is again "cost" they will be doing a bus tour the length of stay and it's cost would be peanuts for western tourists the same type of tour could be 3 x or more expensive in the Phillippines, it's also much cheaper to get to Vietnam from say Thailand and perhaps other reasons are simply lack of exposure and those that we do have is often of a negative nature .

We also don't have alot of culture to offer at least not to western tourists since they invented cathedrals and have tonnes of them back home and are largely atheistic nowadays lol so christian sites might be more interesting to other Asean and East Asian tourists .

So i guess the idea of turning the Phillippines into some kind of entertainment hub is the way to go casino's, lady gaga concerts lol and outdoor activities beaches etc the redevelopment of surviving Spanish forts and other such sites would also be good, but connectivity i think is a real problem and not just a perception .

Yes, you are actually making sense. This is why I believe even before that it's not really fair for us to compare ourselves with other ASEAN countries in terms of number of tourists. Although, I also believe that it is also good to benchmark as a sort of measuring our success, but if we desire to overtake or come close to their numbers, that will just make us frustrated. We'd rather compare the Tourism dollar receipts, the dollar spent by tourists to the Philippines because in our case, it's best to cater to high spending tourists who bring in more money to travel the Philippines as compared to numerous backpackers who just crisscross the borders of Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and even Indonesia and just spend less (like more Pinoys who just share a meal at McDo when in SIngapore to save funds).

If we come close to their tourists numbers, say, 10 Million, that would already be a big accomplishment for us and that means we already address the problem of connectivity. It's a fact that it's really expensive to go to the Philippines. The only way for tourist to come is by plane. Unless we develop our products for cruise ships to visit us, that would greatly help us in increasing our numbers. If we can address also the security problems in the south (wishing,,,), a number of tourists could also come via Sabah to Tawi-tawi, Sulu, Basilan or Zambo (but this may happen next century pa)

Unlike in Malaysia, many so called tourists are just those who visit Singapore and cross the bridge to Malaysia's closest state to Singapore (Johor Bahru) spend a day of picture taking there, and viola, counted as tourist to Malaysia.
I have friends who visit Singapore and make day trips to Malaysia and Indonesia (Batam Island). Even tourist from Malaysia can board a train to go to Thailand and vice versa. Tourists in Vietnam also visits Cambodia and cross to Thailand. We should not wonder if Myanmar or Laos may one day overtake us in number of tourists because many tourists from Thailand can just cross to Myanmar or Laos.

My point is, we should not agonize more on our low numbers compared to theirs, because unless we address our distance and separateness from them, (yes more international airports and budget airlines) we can never get close to their tourist numbers. But I'm not saying that we will just let these limitations immobilize and prevent us from fully advertising our brand of tourism because it's also a fact that we lagged behind because we didn't advertise/promote and develop our branding just like what Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore did in the past and are currently still doing. A better target for us maybe is to achieve a certain % increase in tourist arrival per year similar to the % increase in our neighboring countries, not just the number of tourists per se.

TO BE FAIR...

Thailand and Singapore only counts in coming tourists from their International airports.
They don't count cross borders in their official tallies. (as stated in their statistics).

On the other hand, Malaysia counts all.. even short cross border trips. (No wonder, eh????? )

it will be an expensive project though. Aside from yung gagastusin sa gamit, sueldo and equips. Kelangan din ng compesation sa mga marerelocate na bahay.

Agree on developing mainland Aklan or even the nearby Carabao island as alternatives to Boracay.I can still remember an news article about the plan of San Miguel to put up a tourism complex in mainland Aklan.

But Palawan and Camarines Sur are great alternatives to Boracay that the country should market abroad. There is a need therefore to develop and expand the airport in Bicol and the Puerto Princesa Airport to world class standard.

it will be an expensive project though. Aside from yung gagastusin sa gamit, sueldo and equips. Kelangan din ng compesation sa mga marerelocate na bahay.

Infrastructure would really help. But our government or we should also demand Quality and Good looking infrstructures not just for the sake of having it. Just comparing to pictures I saw in Malaysia's monorail system. So clean, tiles and painted all over, really world class. If infras are like these, surely tourists would love to come back and bring along others.
Our infras, for example, in Metro Manila, are boring to look at, just pure gray cement, without colors or tiles, sometimes yuckie to look at. Roads are in sorry state except maybe for the toll roads/expressways. Kailan kaya tayo makapagmayabang na kung Government projects yan, it means Good Quality and in strength and in looks?

We need to use our other international airports and open more. Dapat damihan ang direct international flights sa Laoag, San Fernando, Davao, Cebu, Iloilo, etc. Dapat meron din international airport sa Bicol at Eastern Luzon

Hindi lahat nasa Maynila

I totally agree... actually for my colleagues here in Singapore, I'm trying to promote Boracay but unfortunately, Bali still is a cheaper option for them plus considering the direct flight from here to Denpasar.... that's why I hope that Kalibo will get a direct connection here soon... and maybe Puerto Princesa..

TO BE FAIR...

Thailand and Singapore only counts in coming tourists from their International airports.
They don't count cross borders in their official tallies. (as stated in their
statistics).

If Thailand counts laborers from only Myanmar around 3 million , laos , Cambodia or a regular crossing between borders for a day crossing ... Thailand would have added up another 10 million or more ). U r right. For me , no matter what poor or rich travelers , they all contribute hugely to the economy. Lower spender tourists spend more on local , on street stalls, on cheap noodle but those cheap spenders significantly helps the grass rooted sme , groceries. Look back 15 years ago , Thailand tourism devElopment for high end tourists werenot much but now .... More than 1000 5 stars resort are all over the country.

Agree din DOT/CAAP/DOTC/DENR must prioritize this Tourism related infra, the MORE the better ang gusto kung mangyari Tourist will HOP around the Philippines as easy as possible...para di sila mag sawa :banana:

DMCI condo project near Luneta earns ire of netizens (http://www.interaksyon.com/article/34215/dmci-condo-project-near-luneta-earns-ire-of-netizens)

MANILA - A residential condominium that DMCI Project Developers Inc. is building behind the Luneta Park has sparked the ire of Filipinos online who claim the project will ruin the view of the Jose Rizal Monument.

Artis-activist Carlos Celdran, popular for his walking tours of Manila, led the uproar and took to social networking sites Facebook and Twitter to express his disgust over DMCI's Torre de Manila project, saying it will "ruin" the view of the historical landmark.

In his Twitter account, Celdran said: "Goodbye [beautiful] Rizal Park sightline. Once DMCI has their way with you, their high rise condo will be the first thing you see behind it. Sad. I hope Rizal's family steps up and says something to the Consunjis."

DMCI Project Developers is the property arm of listed DMCI Holdings Inc., which is led by the Consunji family.

"It is outside but it impedes on the sanctity of the heritage landscape. You think any mayor or developer in Paris would allow an ugly private condo to be built right behind the Eiffel Tower?? I'm sorry. But they should find a new lot. This looks like an interesting legal battle for the new NHI law," Celdran wrote in his Facebook page.

"That law protects heritage landscapes like the sunset of Roxas Boulevard and the sightlines of Luneta Park. Seriously, Consunji Family, find another lot," Celdran said.

Found beside Sta. Isabel College, the resort-inspired high-rise condominium tower is just 40 meters across the Rizal Park based on the company's website.

A rendering of the residential tower on the company's website puts the building at the back of the Rizal monument when viewed from Roxas Boulevard.

Netizens called the development an "eye sore" and an "unpleasant sight."

"We'll be closely monitoring the issue in the meantime. A statement will be released as necessary," said Jan Venturanza, marketing manager of DMCI Homes.

It's located in Daraga, the municipality beside Legazpi. The governor of Albay wants to have the International Airport done by 2014 kaya kahit sinunog ng NPA yung mga equipments tuloy parin ang trabaho, Additional funds were released by the national government to fast-track the construction. Korean local leaders were here last time, based on what we heard Salceda (governor) is having talks with the koreans of having direct flights from Incheon to Albay. How can progress come in those places if they scare people away? People are moving to bigger cities because of these. Cities are becoming congested and places with lots of potential are being left out because of groups like the NPA

Antique now a tourism area

SAN JOSE, Antique — The Department of Tourism (DOT) recently declared the northern part of Antique as a tourism area, thus, expanding the tourism industry in the nearby Boracay.

Sebaste Mayor Juanita dela Cruz, chairperson of the Libertad, Pandan, Sebaste and Culasi (Lipaseco) Council said the Lipaseco will lead the development and promotion of the tourism area under the Cluster 3 Program of the DOT.

Northern Antique includes the town of Barbaza and the Lipaseco towns.
“We are still developing the tourism package of the area,” dela Cruz said. “We are planning to include tourism package from uplands to the beach, and to the marine sanctuary of Antique.”

The DOT scheduled different trainings to local governments involved to prepare them for tourist influx. (PNA)

Fun in the Sun? The Philippines Dreams Big for Tourism

The Philippine government has big plans to turn the province of Bohol into a new Southeast Asian tourist destination. But the country is going to have to address its violent reputation and crumbling infrastructure if it wants to turn its tourism dreams into reality.

By Joe Jackson / Bohol | June 11, 2012

http://timeglobalspin.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/philippines_travel_0611.jpg?w=600&h=400&crop=1

It’s lunchtime on the Loboc River, an emerald green stretch of water that runs through the Philippine island of Bohol, and I’m about to embark on a boat tour with a group of Japanese, Korean and Filipino tourists. We pass a sign asking us to deposit our guns at the tourist information gate and then amble aboard our floating restaurant. Over a buffet lunch of fruit, meat and cheese, we watch kids perform choreographed dance numbers on the riverbank and listen to the musical stylings of a pair of 12-year-old singers. The highlight comes when we reach a series of miniature waterfalls, where the sound of rushing river competes with the girls’ rendition of Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way.”

Tourism, Philippine-style, is slowly taking off. For years, the country has been overlooked in favor of its Southeast Asian neighbors, due largely to enduring security concerns and its crumbling infrastructure. Nearly 4 million tourists visited the Philippines last year, compared to some 19 million visitors in nearby Thailand. But the government hopes to change that, devising a plan to double the number of visitors to the archipelago by 2016. As part of this effort, it launched a multi-million dollar global media campaign in January promising prospective tourists: “It’s more fun in the Philippines.”

infrastructure, food, hygiene, logistics, traffic I agree needs improvement but I don't think it's as violent as the foreign media would have it portrayed. Also brand advertisement is good but also need to work on improving the quality of the brand and overtime it will stick once the quality is improved.

I think our lack of international airports is a big factor. It's too tiring to go say to Sagada or Bicol because the closest airport would be in Manila and it takes like 8 hrs to go to those places from Manila

We also need to have more international airports in Vis-Min too

Isn't Laoag International Airport closer to Sagada than Manila?

I dont think so. From Laoag, still need to go down to Ilocos Sur, then to La Union then up Benguet then Mt. Province.

An alternate route I heard was through Abra, but it's very reliable.

CRK is closer to Sagada than MNL.

If you look at the map, it is. However, one must consider the terrain and route. It takes longer hours to reach Baguio-Sagada than Baguio-Manila. When I traveled from Baguio to Vigan, it took me around 6-7 hours by bus.

Clark will do. Or take Manila-Tuguegarrao or Cauayan (Isabela) flights. :):)

MANILA, Philippines — Camarines Sur, now more popularly referred to as “CamSur” particularly by the youth, has edged out Metro Manila as the top tourist stop in the Philippines.

This, according to the National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB) report using data from the Department of Tourism’s (DOT) regional offices.

Congratulations to CamSur if this is accurate. The numbers seem faulty to me though. How many flights to CamSur every year? How many hotel rooms do they have? How are they counting the arrivals? Are they counting daytrippers?

I can believe Manila and Cebu but CamSur's numbers don't add up. Where are all those tourists staying if there are not enough hotel rooms? Are they camping? I doubt the total airport arrivals even add up to 2.3 million including the locals. Do they have a port? I mean how many wake boarders in the world are there really?
