MANILA, Philippines — Camarines Sur, now more popularly referred to as “CamSur” particularly by the youth, has edged out Metro Manila as the top tourist stop in the Philippines.

This, according to the National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB) report using data from the Department of Tourism’s (DOT) regional offices.

Lol i think there's also some npa there so im also a bit weary of the claim ... .

Anyway i don't think Bohol is that violent a place if anything that so called "Loboc river cruise" is a bit boring the food served isn't alot and the choice was a bit limited but understandable given that it's a "boat trip", but the whole offer or product can be improved on imo to make it even better and more interesting .

One of the highlight's for me was actually the cruise terminals public toilet it was quite impressive to see an immaculate air conditioned toilet out there it was so clean at least when i went there that i started imagining myself having dinner and sleeping in it lol .

:| I really fell in love with that toilet ... .

We ended up just renting a small boat rather than take the river cruise on the big boats. I think that was the highlight of my trip to Bohol.

Last time I heard there were plans to string up lights along the river and allow nighttime cruises. I remember the owner of Nuts Huts (which provided basic lodgings next to the river) trying to fight the proposed changes as they would ruin the serenity of the place, especially at night. But it looks like it did come to pass:

They should have left the river alone :(

From there, we drove to the new Loboc River Cruise Terminal. I looked forward to this trip because of the food, the music and the pristine Loboc River. But it was a shock to me that they installed lamp posts on both sides of the river bank! I was told the lights serve as a backdrop to an enchanting evening cruise. But during the day time, it looks horrible!

The lamps stick out like sore thumbs and don't blend with the natural surroundings. What's is more disheartening is that the wiring is exposed and you can see the orange PVC casings of the wires nailed to the rocks and trees! They also uglified the small waterfalls area by building conrete posts on it.

^^Never underestimate the Filipinos ability to mess up a good thing, in this case the Loboc River. It's not worth it to mess up the natural characteristic of the river just for a few more cruises at night.

But it looks like it did come to pass:

Well as long as it doesn't look like an xmass tree it should be ok i mean a few low key or well integrated light's into the surroundings should be ok, last time i was there i already saw a few discrete lamps here and there by some houses, of course they should not have singers at night or music both on the shore and boats .

I was born a Filipino and my heritage is Filipino that's why I know what I'm talking about. It's gotten better now with more awareness but if nobody's watching, they will build a concrete cottage with a bathroom right next to a waterfall.

ohohoho. gotta capture this post, can hardly believe what I'm readin :) The usually calm, composed, objective and clinical Teutonic Arvor is letting his proverbial hair down, so to speak.

Incidentally, the term "Loboc" almost rhymes with one of my most favourite fetish ... :D :D :D

I had also discussed in another world the various ways I had marked my territories. Paper rolls isn't an issue. :D as long as the source of water is nearby; but of course I cannot discuss all the graphic details as this is a prim and proper forum.

Back to business, ah yes. Bohol is a beautiful island. 'Tis ironic that I haven't been there myself (well maybe 2 days in Tagbilaran only but it isnt enough) coz my mom has roots there as well. Then all my friends from as far away as LA, Cancun or Bergen, Norway had been to Panglao for scuba diving and had seen the Chocolate Hills. All I get are internet pictures from their facebooks. :D

Hagedorn says tourism in Palawan now a P4-B industry

MANILA, March 27 (PNA) — Mayor Edward Hagedorn of Puerto Princesa City announced on Friday that tourism in Palawan has become a P4-billion industry with the recent proclamation of the Puerto Princesa Underground River (PPUR) as one of the world’s New 7 Wonders of Nature.

At the Communication and News Exchange (CNEX) Forum at the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Bldg. in Quezon City on Friday morning, Hagedorn said the city recorded 515,000 arrivals last year as a result of the August 2011 launching of the PPUR text voting campaign for the world’s newest natural wonders.

Naku eto na naman ang pagka balat sibuyas natin. Pero if we criticize other counhtries ok lang pero if we hear criticisms against us naku sigurado may negative reactions. Bottomline if we dont want to hear criticisms, let do thing right, lets strive for perfection, unfortunately many of the things we come up with are mediocre in quality, lack of planning and poorly executed and worse less than desired maintenance. Tell me those arent true. Those things are true specially for govt projects. Kaya if we want to receive praises and praises only then we can do 2 things 1.lets do our best in everything 2.Banned all criticisims.

Yeah i guess the word were looking for is "anticlimactic" especially to describe the tiny waterfall which looked more like a burst pipe than Pagsanjan, but i guess it's ok overall as something to do to pass the time during a Bohol day trip or tour i think people could be more satisfied about the trip if they simply improved the eating experience by laying out a more varied and larger buffet .

One stop on the tour that i didn't find anticlimactic tho was this small zoo which mainly had birds and a few reptiles, i actually liked that beautiful singing/dancing wo'man' at times it seemed liked an excorcism it was hilarious .

The butterfly sanctuary place and it's gardens was also quite interesting .

I don't remember what i had eaten exactly but it seems like i had quite a few bbq sticks, i liked these "natural" banana tree leaf plates btw .

PHL to hold pre-bid conference for airport projects June 22
AMITA O. LEGASPI, GMA News June 15, 2012 3:25pm

The pre-bidding conference for the construction, rehabilitation and expansion of seven airports next month is a welcome step toward government’s campaign to enhance Philippine tourism through infrastructure development, Malacañang said Friday.

Open to all parties, the conference will be held next Friday, June 22, at the DOTC Conference Room, 16th Floor, The Columbia Tower, Mandaluyong City, according to a statement by the Department of Transportation and Communications.

The infrastructure package amounting to P303 million is a welcome boost for the improvement of Philippine transportation facilities,” she noted.

Boo hoo. Never underestimate some Filipinos ability to mess up a good thing. Happy now? You purposely misunderstood my point. You're not that dense. You really think I meant all Filipinos? Read my next statement. Like another poster said balat sibuyas ra kaayo ka.

I am not that dense. LOL.

Guys, did you just hear what this guy said?

:hilarious :hilarious :hilarious

And I am not being overly sensitive, I am being sensible. Because when other lacks sensibility with their comments, sometimes I need to compensate.

Next time, brush up on your arguments, because I have low tolerance for fallacious arguments.

Kakatawa kung minsan ang mga pinoy. Ginegeneralize natin ang ibang race...tapos pag tayo na ang na generalize, umuusok ang ilong natin.

Isa ka pa. Tu quoque argument. Another fallacious argument. Just because we bash other country, it's okay to bash ours? WTF, saang pwet nahugot ang argumento na yan?:lol:

Hayy.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dyan na nga kayo magtumpukan. Sabagay, Tourism and Travel Thread should be something about promoting the country, instead we are being hounded by crabs and ignoramuses who pull down the name of the country at every opportunity.

Maybe EdithB was right, a lot of Filipinos have the propensity to mess up a good thing. Proof are people on SSC Philippines who thinks it's okay to bash the country because we bash others.

Nakakawalang gana na ang SSC, parang dumami na ang basurang nagkalat dito.:nuts::nuts:

Certain parts of the crater have higher concentration of sulfur so tourists are advised not to swim near those areas. Pinatubo is a safe destination as long as you don't visit during the rainy season. But it's perfect from January to the summer months, the water is turquoise which makes it incredibly picturesque.

I suggest you guys try it! It's just a day trip from Manila.

US warns citizens in traveling to PH (http://news.manilastandardtoday.com/2012/06/16/us-warns-citizens-in-traveling-to-ph/)

Kidnappings trigger advisory; Mideast TV team missing :ohno::ohno:

THE United States government on Friday warned its citizen to exercise “extreme caution” if traveling to the Philippines, particularly to Sulu and Mindanao.

The US government issued the travel advisory after two Chinese businessmen were kidnapped in Mindanao on June 4, and as a veteran Jordanian reporter and his TV crew went missing in Jolo.

“US citizens should defer non-essential travel to the Sulu Archipelago due to the high threat of kidnapping of international travelers and violence linked to insurgency and terrorism there,” the advisory said.

That entire argument and all that was posted about it was just pointless .

The Phillippines is not North Korea or even Vietnam and the forum rules does not seem to suggest that this thread should be a propaganda thread with a directive to sugarcoat reality, it is ok to both brag about or "bash" the country .

People around the world and tourists who do come to the Phillippines do know about the countries imperfections and frankly they don't care either way what is said on this forum their decisions and motivations to come do not truelly depend on it .

A culture of sugarcoating imperfections in order to somehow save face is not a good thing, the people or rather forumers should not be meek they should not shut up about their frustrations with the way things are but should whine and moan about how they think things ought to be or post whatever else they want as long as it is pertinent to the thread and does not violate skyscrapercity codes of conduct etc .

Just as with that tiny waterfall in the Loboc river tho creating too much hype and overdoing pr can lead to anticlimax and dissapointment which is imo far worst than understating something that ultimately perhaps surprises someone by being more than what they expected .

That was eloquently said, Arvor.

I feel I ought to say something also--I never imagined I'd be stirring up a hornet's nest by bringing up the lighting and nighttime cruises on the Loboc River. There was no malice intended on my part however; I simply wanted to express my sadness over the developments on the river. I was, by the way, among those who wrote to the local govt pleading to abandon their plans of installing lights and allowing the evening cruises. A futile effort, as it turned out.

Anyway, I wonder--do all of the uproar about the perceived bashing of the country and talk of fallacious arguments really amount to anything? But you're probably right, Arvor--the tourists will still come regardless. As for the Loboc River, at the end of the day the not-at-all discreet lamps remain on the river, the evening cruises will carry on as usual, and tackiness prevails once again.

Weird??? I dont think its weird :)

High concentrations of lime (calcium oxide, calcium carbonates or calcium hydroxide, sulfur) can color the waters of rivers or lakes cyan.

Cant confirm though if this is the same case for Pinatubo's crater.

Some lakes in China also have the same color.

filipinos are fast becoming a universal citizens. we're like practically present in every country in the planet. and for the record there is one filipino at the falkland island that i know of. lol yeah of all the places.

travel advisories from other countries about the dangers of traveling to the philippines might not be of interest to you but for others it might be a significant information for safety reasons.

Yes, the view going to the crater is amazing. You kinda get the grasp on how much pyroclastic material the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo spewed out. I no longer wondered why entire towns in Pampanga got buried in lahar after the eruption. There's like mountains of pyroclastic material along the trek!

^^ For the sake of pagiging balance daw kasi and so that they will sound smarter when they complain and bash the Philippines. They forget they are bashing themselves as well, unless they don't consider themselves as Filipinos.

Sad but true. Sometimes other people confuse illogical complaint to being critical. Sabi nga ng matatanda ang dumi ng pamilya eh wag ng ilabas ng bahay dahil isa ka sa pupulaan ng taga labas ng pamilya.

Waah, waah, waah what a bunch of babies. Grow up! People can criticize if they want to as long as it is valid. For all the beautiful pictures you put up I could put one that's the opposite. I'm not going to. The truth is, the reason why these gorgeous beaches and rivers are still in their natural state and haven't been ruined is because most of them are hard to get to. If the Rice Terraces are accessible I'm betting there will be a McDonalds next to it in the frame. If you don't think so you are not being honest.

I travelled at least half the country. You argue with a travel writer? :hilarious

You asked me to be honest and I was. You instead assumed that you are the only one who knows. By your sweeping generalization (that makes you a douchebag), and by exposing your ignorance of Philippine destinations that made you a liar. Sorry, but never underestimate the people you are talking to, mapapahiya ka lang.

You called me a baby, isn't that namecalling too? At least everyone now knows who's telling the truth and who's passing mere assumptions as truth.

I have been to all those places and more. And the Rice Terraces are accessible

The moon is also "accessible" but few go through the hassle of getting there, these places are accessible in as much as one can get there but not without substantial effort in time and even risk .

----

Seriously after all the time it took to just get to Baguio having to travel a further multiple hours in uncomfortable driving conditions just to cover at times a measely 100 km is kindof absurd, so as nice as the rice terraces are im not inclined to put myself through that on a regular basis altho they are extending the highway system ive no idea if that would really cut travel times substantially from Manila but ill give it another try in a couple of years, im otherwise content with Tagaytay our house there is barely an hour away from our house in Alabang and there are enough beach resorts nearby while security risks are lower at least from my perspective .

My experience going to resorts in Palawan and elsewhere is pretty much similar plane then uncomfortable jeepney ride then boat ride etc in this case however it's understandable since it's a remote island resort in an eco zone, ironically i find it easier to go to my fav Panglao resort than the rice terraces .

So the word "accessible" in this case is quite relative ... .

If we go by that stretch on accessibility then nothing at all will be accessible. Banawe has been a worn destination and a lot of people have been there. But who would like to go there on a regular basis?

:lol::lol::lol:

And yeah perceptions (of security or lack thereof) does not necessarily translate to facts. I travel with foreigners even in Mindanao.

BTW did you find a McDonald's in Banawe? :hilarious

Someone who pretends to know the Philippines thinks there is. Or I guess we should make distance (near in this case) relative too? :D

Well which is why i explained why i was content with Tagaytay exactly because it is easily accessible just zip down SLEX for a bit then a national road it's a one hour drive .

If there was a nice highway all the way up there or a direct high speed train link then yeah i might be quite tempted to go there more often to have a day out why not ..., im sure others would be tempted aswell .

I think Banawe isn't really for the weekender types. You see our country is built for the adventurous. I think this allure contributes to the fact that we offer a different kind of travel experience.

I love Tagaytay too, and you are right, it's easy to reach from Manila but the traffic can be ghastly at times. But I do enjoy an adventure, I mean foreigners here in Indochina pretty much backpack through horrid conditions, disgusting accommodations and unsafe transport yet they come in droves.

When I went to Ifugao, I also trekked for 7 hours with 10 kilos on my back through the rice terraces, and there aint a single McDonald's there. I was exhausted but it was a surreal experience to sleep in an Igorot hut in the middle of Batad Rice Terraces.

Mactan beaches while undoubtedly beautiful are not in their natural state. They are originally coral dotted shorelines before they were converted into white sand coves and beaches. Also, there is a lot of awareness in Mactan of the human impact on the environment because people make money out of the tourism there. You cannot compare privately owned five star resorts that are run by international hotel chains to the publicly owned rivers and beaches that I'm referring to. I'm glad you like Mactan by the way.

Dutch tourists fall for ‘friendly’ Filipinas, end up with less fun in PH (http://globalnation.inquirer.net/39939/dutch-tourists-fall-for-%E2%80%98friendly%E2%80%99-filipinas-end-up-with-less-fun-in-ph)

MANILA, Philippines—A teenage Dutch tourist, celebrating Independence Day at the Rizal Park, was drugged and then robbed of more than P20,000 in cash by seven “friendly” Filipinas, including an elderly woman, in Manila, police said.

Laurentia Elisabeth Stokkel, 19, a native of Amsterdam staying at a boarding house in Sta. Cruz, lodged late Wednesday night a robbery complaint with the Manila Police District General Assignment Section, claiming that the women took P23,600 cash from her using her automated teller machine (ATM) card.

Police Officer 3 Jay Jay Jacob, case investigator, said that the incident happened between 12 noon to 8 p.m. last Tuesday starting at Rizal Park, where Stokkel met the women, and ending somewhere in the Binondo district, where the women invited her for drinks.

Jacob said that before the theft, Stokkel and a female compatriot were at the Rizal Park, participating in the Independence Day celebration, when a Filipina sat with them on bench and started chatting with them.

While the woman was talking with the Dutch tourists, two other Filipinas arrived and were introduced to the foreigners. The trio then invited the foreign women to the Binondo Church and later into Chinatown.

Jacob said that when the tourists agreed to go with them, they met four other Filipinas, including an elderly woman, at the church before they went for some drinks.

It was at a videoke bar that the seven women learned of the tourists’ plan to go to Banaue and offered to give them a ride in a van after claiming that they were also going north.

The case investigator said that when the group was fetched by a van, they told the Dutch tourists that they had to first pass by their house, also in the Binondo district, to get some things. However upon reaching the house, the group offered the tourists another round of drinks, which unknown to them had been spiked.

While the tourists were dizzy and sleepy, the women told them it was time to go and convinced Stokkel that she had to withdraw money from the nearest bank so they could proceed to Banaue. The Dutch tourist agreed and as soon as she inserted her card in the ATM and entered her code, one of the women pushed her aside and made three withdrawals of P3,200; P10,200; and P10,200 while she was escorted back to the van.

The women then brought her back to the house. When the tourists said that they had to catch a flight to Banaue, the women claimed that the van had broken down. The suspects instead flagged down a cab for the tourists, directing the driver to bring them to their boarding house in Sta. Cruz.

When Stokkel woke up and overcame her dizziness late Wednesday afternoon, she discovered the withdrawal slips among her things and reported the robbery to the police.

Police are conducting follow-up operations to identify and arrest the con artists.

maybe, it should be mandated that tourists should be accompanied by government mandated tourist guides.

maybe, it should be mandated that tourists should be accompanied by government mandated tourist guides. That's the trouble, that's the entire problem with these Jejemons, peasants, squatters, hoi polloi, Masa, plebeians, uneducated classes et al. The things that they do will refect once again on the entire nation. The whole world will think that all of us are like them. Do you think these girls will just go back home to the Netherlands as if nothing had happened? (She's still 19 and got a long way to go. Count that as one tourist who will never return ...) Of course not, they will go back home and tell their friends and circles about their image of the Philippines - land of thieves, scheming conniving backstabbing conmen. Multilply these with the countless unreported incidents (start with the manloloko airport taxis) and it can make quite a dent.

Since obviously these rats do not belong to the A Crowd nor the Middle Class, they can only belong to the Masa Crowd. I hereby call on government to swiftly take the first steps at eradicating the problem. The problem is the Jejemon Rat Infestation. The solution is to cut them off from the roots. Identify them and enforce a strict population control program over them using tubal ligation, vasectomies, free condoms, free pills. If spaying and castrating are allowed, then it must be done. Vermin should not be allowed to breed any further, vermin needs to be exterminated. No Slime = No Crime.

I wonder if the DFA has targeted these foreign/western expats in East Asia (many of them ESL teachers?) as prospective tourists?

i think it's a good idea. They're number may be miniscule, but hey, it might be easier to attract them :D

That's the trouble, that's the entire problem with these Jejemons, peasants, squatters, hoi polloi, Masa, plebeians, uneducated classes et al. Do you think these girls will just go back home to the Netherlands as if nothing had happened? (She's still 19 and got a long way to go. Count that as one tourist who will never return ...) THIS IS VERY EMBARRASSING!! Magpakamatay na sana yang mga con-artist.

Dutch tourists fall for ‘friendly’ Filipinas, end up with less fun in PH (http://globalnation.inquirer.net/39939/dutch-tourists-fall-for-%E2%80%98friendly%E2%80%99-filipinas-end-up-with-less-fun-in-ph)

maybe, it should be mandated that tourists should be accompanied by government mandated tourist guides.

Actually we Filipinos are really friendly and these tourist got some very random and rare bad luck and its good that foreigners get to know and mingle with the locals because its an overall different experience for them that they are looking for too and whatever good experience ( or bad ) they had they will carry it with them and spread it ( lots of testimonies you can read around ).These Thieves and con artist DOES NOT REPRESENT the true and overall local Filipinos...maybe what the DOT should do is to properly warn or advise ( without degrading the locals and country ) tourist of the situation in Manila or the whole Philippines like most of us usually and normally do to avoid con artist and thieves...local knowledge against local thugs....lets face it the Philippines is still an emerging ( third world ) country...nothing here is perfect and by advising tourist to be street smart, alert and just use plain common sense then they could avoid these pricks in our society....and these con artist and thieves should be captured ASAP...BE SHAMED IN PUBLIC ( spread their photos around internet, newspapers, TV, Radio etc ), maximum jail sentence for the offense....I remember when Freddie Lim paint the doors of suspected drug pushers then "Drug Pusher nakatira dito"...."magnanakaw manloloko nakatira dito" for these people :|:|

Hayz nako, we cant expect our govt agencies to get tough on these people. The truth is govt is even babying them. Just look the IS who are about to be evicted. They are treated like theyre the only ones who pays taxes. Theyre treated like royalties. bravo! bravo!

genius!

1. a lot of historians look down on our past as a colony of spain and US. but this had turned that into something positive

the fist few lines immediately draws the viewer...name after a spanish king, to which an american general promised to return to...300 years in convent....50 years in hollywood.

galing. sa advertising ung first few seconds would dictate whether the viewer will finish the viewing the whole ad. impressive!

2. i actually laughed at "Hair Force One" and "Harry Cutter" this is pure genius.

3. of the 500 species of coral 488 are here. they should have added "including Nemo" on top of that black/orange stripe fish dancing on that soft coral.

the unique filipino sense of humour has been captured. bravo. bravo

Horrible, but it's common sense to not accept drinks from strangers. I never do when I travel. It seems maraming Ativan dyan sa may Luneta.

Dutch society in general is more secure so you don't expect this kind of things and they also tend to be quite sociable people, you also don't tend to expect to be drugged or harmed by people who invite you to their home because you could then simply report their adress to the police so they probably didn't expect the crime to be this crude ... .

Also given the context they were probably just being polite to their "hosts" .

In any case the 20.000 pesos in itself is probably not a big deal for them which is just about 20% of an ordinary monthly salary here rather than the drugging and robbery itself which violated their person .

We need to be critical. Agree. In fact it is our responsibility to be critical but give room to correct the things you are critical of as well. When he said those things in the context of tourism, my God, how stupid can one be to actually suggest posting nasty pictures of your country when you are trying to entice visitor just to rebut someone's argument. Criticizing for the sake of criticizing is the most irresponsible form of correcting something. It is more of a ridicule rather than correction.

Yah thats very true. Last week I brought a couple of my business contacts from HK to dinner in greenbelt(wont name the resto baka sabihin ads ito hehehe). Its their first time in the philippines and they were honest enuf to say that their image of our country is unsafe and dirty and probably no good chinese food. So after the dishes were presented, all of them agreed that the food is at par if not better than some of the best chinese resto in HK. Theyre also surprised at the bill, they thought the number is in HK $ coz its quite inexpensive considering the things we ordered. They were also awed by the sight of the tall bldgs in makati. They thought all our houses are slums like what they see on tv. They then start asking what other interesting places to visit and i started enumerating them. Ayun they prolly would return someday with their friends and families hopefully.

I went to Pagsanjan in 2010 and tried the rapids. I didn't experience the overcharging of boatmen. I guess, Governor Ejercito was strict in the implementation of the fixed rate for the ride.

^^ There's a fixed rate, however, the boatman would try to make you pay for the landing, a 'lunch' for you and the 'boatman', the balsa that goes under the waterfall, and they wont be content for 100 pesos tip at the end. They would hassle for more, nakakairita. I felt robbed in Pagsanjan.

We didn't experience that....I remember we had a stop in the middle of the trip, we just gave the boatmen soda.

Australian woman killed resisting robbery attempt on Thai resort island

By: The Associated Press

BANGKOK - An Australian woman has been stabbed to death and another has been hurt in a street robbery on the Thai resort island of Phuket.

Police Lt.-Col. Boonlert Onklang said Thursday that 60-year-old Michelle Smith had resisted an attempt by two Thai men on a motorcycle to snatch her bag at knifepoint.

Smith was stabbed in the chest late Wednesday night while fighting them and died shortly after the men fled.

Interesting read from Cito Beltran. (http://www.philstar.com/Article.aspx?articleId=819717&publicationSubCategoryId=64)

For as long as I can remember, there has been a ban (official or otherwise) on foreigners going to “hot spots” such as Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi. If I remember correctly, the PNP has repeatedly warned foreigners as well as members of the media from going to such hot spots because of the strong possibility of kidnapping.

So how is it possible that Baker Atyani of the Al Arabiya News Network simply disappear in the jungles of Sulu?

After three or four days of worry and bad press and everybody thinking he was kidnapped, we now have reason to believe that Atyani intentionally hooked up with terrorists. Unfortunately, those three or four days once again put a damper on all our efforts to promote our country as “More FUN in the Philippines.”

Malacanang and Congress should pass an EO or a law that criminalizes intentional disregard of such safety or travel advisories issued by the PNP or any LGU for that matter. The government has to make it clear that they will not tolerate any interaction or cooperation with any terrorist or criminal group.

That may intentionally or unintentionally give such criminal groups any form of publicity.

I don’t agree that we should simply blacklist Atyani and kick him out. We should give him the royal pain in the ass treatment.

For starters, the PNP and the military should begin by giving him a two-week debriefing with intelligence personnel, then a few days with the Department of Labor concerning his locally hired personnel who were placed in grave danger, and then the Bureau of Immigration should give him a seminar, perhaps even check if he has a working visa. If he was willing to spend days in the jungles, I’m sure he won’t mind several weeks in air-conditioned interrogation rooms.

I believe in freedom of the press but not at the risk of lives, waste of taxpayer’s money, and the ensuing bad publicity at the country’s expense.

This can become a tourism thing for islamist fundementalists ... .

"Islamist terrorism more fun in the Phillippines come visit your fanatical brethren on Basilan and Sulu islands for a pre suicide attack paradise vacation and a luxurious stay in one of the many JI resorts, extra excursions can be organised for a fee to meet GI's or phil special forces in an action packed jungle themed combat safari" .

Cebu to host international Eucharistic event in 2016
http://www.philstar.com/Article.aspx?publicationSubCategoryId=64&articleId=819427

The big news for the Philippines came out from the mouth of no less than Pope Benedict XVI in Croke, Dublin, Ireland who, during the closing mass for the 50th International Eucharistic Congress, announced that the 51st International Eucharistic Congress would be held in 2016 in Cebu City, Philippines. Perhaps it is because the Philippines is the last bastion of Catholicism that still has no divorce laws, no same sex marriage laws and no reproductive health (RB) law that promotes contraception and a reduction of its population, while all other Catholic countries have already succumbed to the “modernist” ideas that are repugnant to God.

Indeed, it is a great honor that Cebu City has been chosen to be the venue for the 51st International Eucharistic Congress, because it coincides with the 495th anniversary of the Chris-tianization of the Philippines. Right now we are in the midst of preparations for the canonization of Blessed Pedro Calungsod to be held in St. Peter’s Square in Vatican City, Rome this Oct. 21. Many Filipinos are already making plans to attend the canonization of the second Filipino saint.

sa totoo lang talagang walang wala. the old abellana oval or now known as cebu sports center and the delapidated cebu coliseum are not even match venues on what dublin, ireland has done. that's a big headache for cebu cardinal vidal and new archbishop palma on how to manage and accomodate such a big crowd. theyre even getting help from hans sy to build the altar costing 2.5M for the thanksgiving mass on the canonization of the next pilipino saint in november at srp close to the new sm. how much more for this event?

Angat dam, planong gawing tourist attraction; pinakamahabang zip line, ilalagay

- RR/FRJ, GMA News

Last visit in Camiguin was 8 or 9 years ago!

We went to these same places with my group of friends (same people I went to Palawan, Siargao, Leyte, Davao etc with) and so this set you posted elicits that warm nostalgia. Sadly, I could not post the photos because we were still using film that time, and the film we used was double exposed!! Haha. We only found later when we were back in Cebu that the same film was used twice and so each photo had superimposed views. Some photos looked positively creepy and artistic though!

But man, yeah. Camiguin was superb, and the I miss the company.

Suggestion for this leg: We did a three-destination series for a week at that time and I suggest this for others too!

It was very convenient coming from Cebu because we just completed the Cebu to Iligan by boat and then land trip to CDO and short ferry to Camiguin, then back to Cebu from Camiguin by boat.

Main highlights:

Iligan-Waterfalls! And more waterfalls! (We visited at least 3 plus timoga). Maria Cristina was grand, but Tinago was just wow! Beautiful!

CDO-Whitewater rafting. We did the ziplines and it was the only zipline in the country that time I think (1st in the Philippines).

Camiguin. The whole island! Beaches and sand bars, SPrings hot and cold, and volcanoes and mountains (and oh waterfalls but they didn't impress as much when you just came from Iligan) .

^^Can people stay for an entire day at the White Island? (I mean from morning until before sundown). It must be lovely to finish a book there.

@Otakaw.. depends on the weather. masyadong mainit na kapag full blast na ang araw. nung nagpunta kami ng White Island, pabago bago yung weather. Uulan tapos aaraw. But it was great. I spent about an hour there.. just snorkelling and enjoying the sand. And then we had to leave and go back to Paras to start our journey to Mantigue Island. :D

That was also our IT. Before going to Camiguin, we stayed for several days in Cagayan de Oro. We did the white water rafting on Cagayan River through Kagay. I will post some pics as well of that part of our trip. It was exhilirating and exhausting to say the least doing the rafting. We started at around 9 AM and finished past 2 pm. The rapids were great at that time and our instructors were really experienced. Ilang beses kaming nag-under the water, either deliberately or because of our stupidity.... hehehe.. :D

It's much more developed than now huh?
When we went there it was still new and we had lunch at a more "cowboy" hut by the river side without the resto amenities.

But yeah, I went under the water once in Davao and once in CDO. Haha. And trust me, it's so much more fun and memorable to have done so. The one in CDO was done on purpose but the one in Davao was a little scarier.

@bakasaurus... I went there way back in 2009, so by now it is more developed. Although typhoon Sendong would have affected been a setback for CDO tourism.

Anyway, when we went white water rafting, the guide explained to us that we would be experiencing the 22 rapids of Cagayan. That's why it took 5 hours to complete the entire course. We were all exhausted.. more pics below of our lameness hehehe:

Paras Resort

I have relatives there in northern Mindanao and last time i was on Bohol i wondered if there were ferries to Iligan, but anyway from what i saw on google maps there seems to be a link from "Jagna" Bohol to Camiguin has anyone tried this route or how does one get to Camiguin from Bohol ? .

I think it could be a good side trip perhaps stay 2-3 days on Camiguin to visit white island next time i visit Bohol and this Paras resort seem to be close to it aswell .

When we went to Camiguin, we took the fast craft/ocean jet vessel from Cagayan de Oro Macabalan port to Benoni Port in Camiguin. This was a direct route and faster than the traditional route of going to Balingoan port in Misamis Oriental.

The fast craft/ocean jet also ply the Bohol-Camiguin route on certain days of the week (3x times a week). They serve Jagna port in Bohol to Benoni port in Camiguin.

Sana nga. Camiguin is still pristine. When I was there konti lang ang tourists. Kulang talaga sa promotion. Pinoys should really visit and travel to the provinces.

“That has to be studied. We get the general idea. It will bring in business and promote tourism, may multiplier effect ang ganoong project (but) we have to study it first.”

@chrismartin02: what a thrill. Great shots at the rapids.

Thanks. With Kagay, our white water rafting provider, they usually have an extra guide who comes along with the tour and will ride a kayak. Duty nya to be the tour's photographer while you do the white water rafting. You should see how expert the guide in kayak was. Kahit na gaano kalaki at kabilis nung rapids kaya nyang ma-outmanuever yun using just a kayak. After the tour, Kagay will load your white water rafting photos in a CD and you can buy that CD. So yung mga pics namin sa taas, kuha yan ng kayak guide namin. Kudos to him. :D

SUBIC, Philippines – Australians David Dellow and Belinda Granger showed they’re not just long-course race specialists as they topped the Olympic-distance Century Tuna 5i50 Triathlon Series Philippines in contrasting styles at the tough course here at the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority.

The 33-year-old Dellow needed one burst of speed in the final three kilometers to overtake former three-time Olympian Csaba Kottur of Hungary and another Aussie Ben Allen to wrest his first victory in this 1.5K swim, 40K bike and 10K run in over a decade.

“It’s been a while since I last did short course races, maybe 10 years because I’ve been focusing my energy on doing long-course races,” said Dellow, whose long list of victories included Ironman Champion Cairns 2012.

“It’s two different sports really but I’m glad I won here, it’s unforgettable experience competing over here,” he added.

Dellow reached the finish line in two hours, three minutes, three seconds. Kuttor, who competed in the triathlon in Athens, Sydney and Beijing Olympics, was second in 2:03.27 while Allen was third in 2:04.43.

Granger, who topped the Cobra Energy Drink Ironman 70.3 in Camsur last year, ruled the women’s pro side in 2:22.35, or a whopping five minutes ahead of second placer Ali Fitch of Canada (2:27.47).

“It’s always special for me competing here in the Philippines and winning makes it more special,” said the 41-year-old Granger, whose other notable triumphs were the 2012 Geelong Long Course and 2011 Ironman 70.3 Japan.

Recovering Japanese market to lift Phl tourism, industries
By Ehda M. Dagooc (The Freeman) Updated June 25, 2012 12:00 AM

CEBU, Philippines - The recovering interest of the Japanese market to consider Cebu as a preferred vacation destination, as indicated by the growing number of arrivals and its strong interest to acquire condominium units could boost not only tourism sector, but other industries here.

Known for its love in wellness, and leisure, the Japanese market rebound is seen to further boost the wellness, healthcare, entertainment, retail and even real estate sectors in the province, said Cebu Health and Wellness Council (CHWC) trustee Patria Aurora “Dawnie” Roa.

Roa, who is the former Department of Tourism (DOT-7) regional director said that Cebu’s long term efforts to revive the Japanese market is now getting its positive results, following reports of increasing number of Japanese young retirees buying off condominium units in Cebu.

“Japanese nationals are high spender. They are wealthy. They spend more than any other nationalities. If they are going to consider Cebu as their second home, the more that other industries will be benefited especially the wellness, and retail,” Roa said.

The influx of Japanese to Cebu, while good for the province economy in general, it is expected to help push the medical tourism sector here.

Earlier, Megaworld Inc., which is building a township project on Mactan Island called “The Mactan Newtown,” reported that bulk of Japanese young retirees are buying residential condominium units. So far, over 700 units are already sold to this particular market.
