suzan January 27th, 2007, 11:36 AM By Massilia
By the way I think that the architect, Jean Nouvel, did not put too much effort into this tower, it's more like a duplicate of his Agbar Tower in Barcelona..
http://www.aviewoncities.com/img/barcelona/kvesp1023s.jpg
QatPhils January 27th, 2007, 11:36 AM nothing funny to me
suzan January 27th, 2007, 11:37 AM Halawala
It also looks similar to the building in London
http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/upload/img_400/NMR23257_08x450.jpg
but this building i think uses advanced technology to save electricity I think, with a large atrium in the middle.
QatPhils January 27th, 2007, 11:37 AM By Massilia
There are so many towers like that, one in London
european January 27th, 2007, 12:31 PM Looks like an condom.
kryszakk January 27th, 2007, 01:01 PM similar to this one in Barcelona

great184 January 27th, 2007, 06:38 PM Looks like a designer condom :) Maybe the architect adores the aesthetics of the male member hehe
QatPhils January 27th, 2007, 06:44 PM Looks like a designer condom :) Maybe the architect adores the aesthetics of the male member hehe
What do you mean?
SaRaJeVo-City January 27th, 2007, 09:19 PM Looks like a designer condom :) Maybe the architect adores the aesthetics of the male member hehe
:hilarious :hilarious yea I don't like the design myself, seems like its too metallic.
Jose Luis January 27th, 2007, 09:39 PM Well its not my favorite design but the facade look totally innovating its promising.

Alle April 8th, 2007, 04:44 PM Ive heard architechts expressing that they believe the way of the future is less like clear defined shapes and lines, and more "organic"/closer to nature. Id say this is a more organic design than those very defined buildings of the 90's like Bank of china for example. Altough the colours are not very "organic". Altough organic doesnt have to mean that the building is green.
Id say the way of the future will be designs which have smooth curves and sort of merges with the ground instead of just going up straight. I believe a deisgn by zaha hadid for a building in Dubai (dont remember the name but its like seven floors), comes close.

yeah I thought the same thing hen I saw it.The building itself has a boring design, but the facade is quite original, and it echoes the arabian culture.

Skyman April 9th, 2007, 07:02 AM Funny tower reminds me a cucumber
TYW April 9th, 2007, 07:41 AM the first thing i thought was Torre Agber with a spire :D
i think the façade is very interesting though
flygon April 9th, 2007, 08:04 AM ^^
Yeah, it would be more beautiful without the spire.
Sbz2ifc April 9th, 2007, 10:50 AM the first thing i thought was Torre Agber with a spire :D
i think the façade is very interesting though
Torre Agbar with a spire... that's what I thought as well, but both Torre Agbar & The Gherkin are much better than this one.
suzan April 9th, 2007, 11:20 AM ^^ There is a lot of difference between all the three towers.. In design, and facade. Who knows... you might get a surprise at the end :D
Sbz2ifc April 9th, 2007, 11:26 AM ^^ Yes, I know there is, if Agbar & the gherkin were the same I wouldn't like them both :)
And about Burj Qatar, as many people said, the spire doesn't really fit. Anyway... I'm looking forward to seeing how this one will turn out. I have to admit that the structure is very interesting (from what I see in the construction pics).

philip April 12th, 2007, 01:52 AM The facade is absolutely stunning.
I agree that this is ajust another copy of his previous work. Why doesn't he come up with one that curves a bit, and that will be a master piece !!:)
ROYU April 12th, 2007, 05:48 AM Very similiar to Agbar Tower but lets wait till this get finish.

Almost completed!
Rory Stott August 4th, 2010, 03:07 PM Well its not my favorite design but the facade look totally innovating its promising. The shape of the tower is almost exactly like Torre Agbar (I think that's been well covered), but the facade is far from 'innovative'. Look at the close ups on this site http://www.openbuildings.com/buildings/doha-office-tower-profile-1915.html Its just a variation on Nouvel's Arab World Institute, which he built over 20 years ago. Seriously, some of you people need to brush up on architecture which is less than 200m tall.
stevensp August 4th, 2010, 03:13 PM im not really a fan of this design, its just ugly imo... and nothing innovative or ecological..
Im dissapointed, Qatar can do better...
Chad August 4th, 2010, 03:39 PM Doha skyline looks carefully contructed, smaller thus better than Dubai IMO.
Halawala January 8th, 2011, 08:19 PM Really nice pic!

Ni3lS January 8th, 2011, 08:33 PM Wow this is one weird looking tower. I think we'll all agree with the fact that it's been completed for a while now. I'll move it to the archives in about a week.

Well, it may look complete, but work is still going on the ground level, like the parking structure, external lobby, interior works. So, not fully complete.

No, not really. Because of the antenna.
There's an increasing number of gherkin- or missile-shaped towers, think of the Swiss Re in London and Torre Agbar in Barcelona.
