View Full Version : WHAT ABOUT A CENTRAL BRAZIL HISTORIC CITY?...CIDADE DE GOIÁS

First of all a little bit of History. This city was founded in 1726 due to the "Brazilian Gold Rush" wich forced pioneers to their adventure into a wild Central Brazil in search of that precious metal, and stones like emerald and diamonds. In 1748 Vila Boa (Good Vilage) was elevated to the cathegory of Goiás. But much of its power were loosed when the state capital was moved to the new planned city (yes in Brazil we really like to plan cities: Belo Horizonte, Teresina, Goiania, Brasilia, Palmas!!!!), Goiânia. The distance from big cities isolated it in someways. This isolation contributed to the conservation of its impressive colonial architecture, a mixed of Brazilian colonial, neoclassic and gothic found only here! Just take a look on these pictures.
First an overview of the city from a mountain nearby

The Cathedral of Santa Ana (its construction began in 1743). The first one is the backside wich I think is more photogenic than the frontside

Here two more: right side and interior

As you saw The Cathedral was built in a style very closed to the neoclassic. The next church, very beautiful indeed was built in a gothic style. The church of Nossa Senhora do Rosário (Our Lady of the Rosary)

It was built in 1761, demolished and rebuilt in this style in 1934

Vale a pena visitar.

What a nice town!
I've been there a couple times, don't remember exactly how many times, just know that it has a lot of history and interesting old buildings and also is a charming town, the good food over there, I liked it much, well, my family is from Goiania, so I am a little bit bias when I talk about this region. :D

Thanks for showing us this beauty. ;)

This part of Brazil is hooooot!:lol::lol: Because of the high altitude, Brasilia has an avarage of 22 degrees C. It is 400km from Cidade de Goiás and the avarage there is 33 Celsius. I think it will never see a flock of snow!!:lol::lol:

The people will not mind if you stay here as long as you want! Brazilian people are very receptive (especially us, from SSC)!! :lol::lol:

:lol::lol: ^^ I noticed that u didn't say anything about me staying in Brazil! ^^ :lol::lol:

Oh...Brazilian people is one the most receptive people in the world. Of course if you stay in large cities like Rio, São Paulo, Recife, Salvador, BH, you must to be carefull as you would be carefull in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles or any other great city in the Americas. But don't worry. If violence in Rio, for instance, was that great as the National and International media show, Rio wouldn't atract so many foreign tourist! But I would say that, Brazil is not only it's greatest cities. In fact, the real Brazil you'll find in its medium and small towns in the interior. You can come. You will be welcome! Brazilians love France more than any other country in Europe, you know. I have a friend who is from Paris (:lol::lol::lol: he says he hates Paris:lol::lol:). He's name is Jean and he lives close to the Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park in the state of Goiás.

Yes, I do really believe u when u say how receptive Brazilian people are as I have experienced this myself when I was there. :) Besides having many wonderful qualities/traits, I have always believed that the people of Brazil are inherently warm and very welcoming people....just so unique and wonderful like the country itself. I believe that Brazil and her people are like one entity. :)

Yes, of course, I wish not only to see/visit the great cities of Brazil but also the vast beauty that lays beyond all that in the interior [small towns, villages, rivers, plains and of course, the one and only Amazon :drool:].

(especially us, from SSC)!! :lol::lol:
