TEHRAN: Iran will build five industrial townships on the border with Iraq, said deputy minister of industries and mines.

According to a Mehr report on Saturday, Mohammad Reza Notash, who is also head of Small Industries and Industrial Townships Organization, further said that Iran will also extend a $1 billion credit to Iraq.

Noting that studies are underway to find the best locations for the townships, he added that creating infrastructure of each township will require more than 10 billion rials.

The official also disclosed that a 500 billion-rial-budget has been allocated for Small Industries and Industrial Townships Organization in the budget bill for the Iranian year to March 2008.

Referring to the $1 billion credit, he added, "We are in preliminary phase for creating industrial townships in Iraq."

He said that establishing the townships, all state entities should cooperate with the organization.

Earlier, Notash said that only 10 percent of the budget approved for Small Industries Investment Guarantee Fund have been allocated to the entity.

Notash said that some projects to establish 28 specialized industrial townships nationwide were approved, adding that 13 of these townships have become operational, including a pottery and ceramic industrial township in Lalejin, Hamedan province and a construction stone industrial township in Azna, Lorestan province, reported ISNA.

"Some 250 trillion rials of facilities were allocated to small businesses with quick return," he said, adding that under a recent decision, large and medium scale industries would be provided with 20 percent of the facilities.

He said that Small Industries and Industrial Townships Organization has proposed a total 300 plans to attract further investment in various projects, adding that given the investors had problems providing the collateral, the Small Industries Investment Guarantee Fund was established.
